From the above URL:

 Performance Co-Pilot (PCP) is a framework and services to support
 system-level performance monitoring and performance management.

 The services offered by PCP are especially attractive for those
 tackling harder system-level performance problems. For example this
 may involve a transient performance degradation, or correlating
 end-user quality of service with platform activity, or diagnosing
 some complex interaction between resource demands on a single system,
 or management of performance on large systems with lots of moving
 parts.

The news page mentioned that someone had made Debian packages, but the
URL to them was broken. It might be worth looking into trying to find
the packager and/or his/her packages.

I haven't actually tried this software, but it looks cool, and the
stuff from SGI is generally high-quality.

There is also a neato looking GTK+ frontend at

URL:http://k332.feld.cvut.cz/~lemming/projects/pcpmon.html

that looks like it would also be worth packaging.

 Please notify the Debian security team so they can add dvd95, vamps,
 dvdauthor to their list of packages with duplicated code.

Or please patch it so that the code isn't duplicated for such bogus
goals.

Bug#444393: ITP: miniupnpd -- UPnP IGD lightweight daemon

* Package name: miniupnpd
  Version : 1.0-RC9
  Upstream Author : Thomas Bernard [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.example.org/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C, C++
  Description : UPnP IGD lightweight daemon

The UPnP protocol is supported by most home adsl/cable routers and Microsoft
Windows 2K/XP. The aim of the MiniUPnP project is to bring a free software
solution to support the Internet Gateway Device part of the protocol. The
MediaServer/MediaRenderer UPnP protocol is also becoming very popular but here
we are talking about IGD.

Miniupnpc aims at the simplest library possible, with the smallest footprint
and no dependencies to other libraries such as XML parsers or HTTP
implementations. All the code is pure ANSI C. Compiled on a x86 PC, the
miniupnp client library have less than 15KB code size. For instance, the upnpc
sample program is around 20KB. The miniupnp daemon is much smaller than any
other IGD daemon and is ideal for using on low memory device for this reason.

Net::DNS::Resolver::Programmable is a Net::DNS::Resolver descendant class that

This means, if I even use one single function of the original
 work, in an a GUI environment, which creates, say, a button to use in
 the task bar (small button, think of the wm* packages -- wmweather et
 al), I either make the button hugish, or I have to code in a splash
 screen -- for every single button that uses any of the original
 source. So, if a user has a dozen or so of these buttons in their
 toolbar, they are faced with a dozen splash screens when they start
 their session.

This sounds like a significant reduction in freedom.

Bug#429513: netdude packages in debian

2007-09-28 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Hello Everybody.

I'm just writing to let you know that I've spent some time trying to package
the latest upstream version of Netdude. My effort is available at:
http://fatal.se/pub/debian/netdude/
If anyone feel like helping out that would be great!
See the TODO file at the same place for issues I've already identified
(without even testing the package :P).
If anyone of you who talked about adopting it still want to do so I'd
happily prepare it for you and hand it over to you, since I'm not really that
interested.
Even if you don't have the time to do take on any bigger part in this right
now I'd deeply appreciate if you could find the time to test and/or review
the packages since I'm not very experienced when it comes to packaging
libraries.
I would also need to find a sponsor for this if anyone is willing to help out
there, but I don't know if the plan is to remove Gtk+ 1.x before the next
release and if I'll have time to port netdude to Gtk+ 2.x.

 mowgli is a development framework for C (like GLib), which provides high

 of the slow GLib list manipulation functions), or stand alone. It also
 provides
 a powerful hook system and convenient logging for your code, as well as a high

Extremely minor nitpick: In English, the first letter of a sentence is
always capitilized. Thus, the beginning of your long description should
be Mowgli is a devlopement framework for C

(The short description, OTOH, is not a sentence, and so should NOT be
capitalized. Isn't English fun?)

I intent to propose a generic Debian package for the following software.

We've made a local package already, on an old version of the program, which
suited our needs for the PicoForge platform (some details at
https://picoforge.int-evry.fr/cgi-bin/twiki/view/Picoforge/Web/TwikiLdapcontribDeb
 ).

Now is time to try and contribute such a package to Debian for more general use
by the community.

* Package name: twiki-ldapcontrib
  Version : 060802
  Upstream Author : [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Plugins/LdapContrib
* License : GNU GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : LDAP services for TWiki

Excerpt from http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Plugins/LdapContrib :

This package offers basic LDAP services for TWiki and offers authentication of
TWiki users by binding to an LDAP server as well as incorporate LDAP user
groups into TWiki's access control.

Upstream states : (c) 2006 Michael Daum http://wikiring.com. This work was
partly funded by Spanlink Communications and Trivadis.

Packaging an up-to-date version will need some more work than the initial work
done for the August 2 version for PicoForge.

Hi,
as per Debian Perl Policy, the package should be named libmail-spf-perl.

You could join the Debian Perl Group, please take a look at

http://pkg-perl.alioth.debian.org

Maintaining a package in a team is easier than doing all the work all alone.

 The source package would generate two binary packages: libmail-spf-perl
 and spf-tools-perl, the latter of which would ship the executables
 included with the Mail::SPF upstream package (currently spfquery and
 spfd).

This could let you name your package mail-spf-perl: there's a discussion about
this on [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Please take a look at the
archives. (In two words: one could name the source package other than lib*-perl
if it brings something other than the Perl Module -- as the spf-tools in this
case -- but not everyone agrees)

Kindly,
David

 Please note me if you have preliminary packages available.

I'm not sure right now. Preliminary packages will be coming soon, but

 This package provides a means for programming by contract in python.
 Programming by contact is a methodology whereby a API designer can
 define checkable preconditions and postconditions for method calls,
 and invariants for classes and methods. The most famous use of this
 methodology is in the Eiffel programming language.
 .
 This implementation of programming by contract has the developer
 write constraints in the docstrings of methods and classes that can
 be optionally checked at runtime. If the constraints are not met,
 an exception is raised.

David Paleino wrote:

  * Package name: mail-spf-perl

 as per Debian Perl Policy, the package should be named libmail-spf-perl.

You are probably referring to 4.2, Module Package Names:
http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/perl-policy/ch-module_packages.html#s-package_names

| Perl module packages should be named for the primary module provided.
| The naming convention for module Foo::Bar is libfoo-bar-perl. Packages
| which include multiple modules may additionally include provides for
| those modules using the same convention.

The last sentence indicates that this paragraph really just talks about
binary package names, not source package names, as only binary packages,
not source ones, do Provide: other packages.

This also allows existing source packages to be named mime-tools,
soap-lite, and timedate, while their corresponding binary packages are
conformingly named libmime-perl, libsoap-lite-perl, and libtimedate-
perl.

Thus I think it is perfectly legitimate to name the _source_ package
mail-spf-perl.

  The source package would generate two binary packages:
  libmail-spf-perl and spf-tools-perl, the latter of which would ship
  the executables included with the Mail::SPF upstream package
  (currently spfquery and spfd).
