That would be true if the author was a US citizen.

rejected, your debian/copyright file is incomplete and misses
(C)holders/license data. You have to include all such differences.

Hi,

While reviewing packages that were not included in Etch, your package
came up as a package that should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer,
because:
 * RC bugs opened for a very long time with no action from the
   maintainer.

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O: quake2 -- improved version of id Software's Quake II engine
thanks

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please

Hi,

This bug was originally reported in may, but the situation didn't
improve since then. The package has had several bugs tagged patch, with
no action from the maintainer for a long time.

Thus, I am now orphaning this package, as originally suggested. The
debian-games team is Cced, as a potential adopter.

no runtime data translation is required. It provides an easy-to-use,

The purpose of JBoss Remoting is to provide a single API for most
network based invocations and related service that uses pluggable
transports and data marshallers. The JBoss Remoting API provides the
ability for making synchronous and asynchronous remote calls, push
and pull callbacks, and automatic discovery of remoting servers. The
intention is to allow for the addition of different transports to fit
different needs, yet still maintain the same API for making the
remote invocations and only requiring configuration changes, not code
changes, to fit these different needs.

Your instructions were to close this bug if I disagreed with it.

Well, the original message was:
| If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please

The preferably part is important :-)

I restored the previous state of the bug. Please act on those RC bugs
now. I've marked the package as to check again in 20 days in my list
 for now.

I was thinking this over, and I perhaps reacted too quickly just now --
perhaps you are right, and I won't get more time to work on this package in
 the near future.

Ok, thanks for taking this decision.

However your methods leave a lot to be desired. I don't like the
implication that I have to do work to satisfy your checklist. The package
in question is not causing loss of life, it's not costing millions of
 dollars.

I'm not asking for the moon. My criteria basically boils down to is in
a releasable state. In the case of quake2, it hasn't been able to
migrate to testing for 827 days, and has 2 RC bugs.

You could have asked me nicely to consider if I was going to be
able to do the work to clean up the package, and suggest the benefits (for
me) to have the package orphaned instead; but rather you have been blunt and
have not instilled within me a feeling of cooperation or goodwill.

Well, there's no real benefit for you in having the package orphaned :)
I've pinged you on several occasions on this bug, without any progress on
the RC bugs. This is already very time-consuming (I don't have anything
against you or quake2: I have at least 30 other packages on my radar).
So I'm trying to do my best.

If you want to continue to participate in quake2 maintenance, maybe you
should contact the debian games team: they would probably agree that you
maintain the package inside the team, and it usually helps to share the
load. :)

Also, another question: do you mind if I orphan quake2-data ? It would
probably be better if quake2 and quake2-data were maintained by the same
person/team.

Some of them actually do. Others have concerns for exposing their work
in the public domain for many reasons.
- For not (re)selling what they do while they sold their works to a
specific publisher.
- Many think that the only way literary protection is to to keep
hardline (copy)right statements.
- Some think that keeping a work more restrictive in cases, makes it
more valuable ;)
- And finally, some of them did not stated anything about the public
availability of their works, and when eventually died, their heirs
made their work commercial and restrictive.

I think most of Qu'ra translations are publicly available on the Web,
and their authors usually don't complain about this fact. But when they
are asked for official permissions for distribution of their work, some
of them only give the permission only for non-commercial purposes. I
think one of reasons behind that is some of authors are supported by
some institutions and sometimes these institutions after supporting the
author look for a little bit benefit from their work to be able to
continue their supports on the future work of other authors.

Best,
Mohammad

Bug#449435: RFA: shfs

2007-11-05 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hello,

the shfs package (actually shfs-source and kernel module packages) needs
a new maintainer. I don't use it anymore because it was replaced by
sshfs package in every scenario appearing here.

Regards,
Eduard.

The current maintainer of zatacka, me, doesn't play zatacka anymore.

work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see

Bug#449489: RFP: ikarus -- free optimizing incremental native-code compiler for R6RS Scheme

2007-11-05 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: ikarus
  Version : 0.0.1
Upstream Author : Abdulaziz Ghuloum [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.cs.indiana.edu/~aghuloum/ikarus/
* License : GPLv3
  Programming Lang: C/Scheme
Description : free optimizing incremental native-code compiler for R6RS
Scheme

Ikarus is an optimizing compiler, so your Scheme code will run fast
without the need to port hot spots to C for performance. With an
incremental compiler, you don't need a separate compilation step to make
your program run fast. The best part is that the compiler itself is
fast, capable of compiling thousands of lines of code per second.

Finally, Ikarus is an R6RS compiler. R6RS is the latest revision of the
Scheme standard. The preliminary release of Ikarus supports over 80% of
the most important features R6RS, and later releases will bring Ikarus
closer to full R6RS conformance. R6RS libraries, scripts, record types,
condition system, exception handling, unicode strings, bytevectors,
hashtable, and enumerations are among the supported features.
