We already had pyflakes injected in the team repository[1]; what I did
is integrate the Varun's debdiff into such repository, adopting for
the team (adding we three as uploaders) and few other changes. If
Tristan has no objections, wa can upload this version, waiting for new
upstream release.

Cheers,
Sandro

Bug#472317: ITP: placelab-linux -- Estimate location based on WLAN, Bluetooth, or GSM

2008-03-23 Thread Rene Mayrhofer
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Rene Mayrhofer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: placelab-linux
  Version : 2.1
Upstream Author : Intel research labs
* URL : http://www.placelab.org/
* License : GPL
Programming Lang: Java with some native code
Description : Estimate location based on WLAN, Bluetooth, or GSM

Place Lab is software providing low-cost, easy-to-use device
positioning for location-enhanced computing applications. Place Lab
tries to provide positioning which works worldwide, both indoors and out
(unlike GPS which only works well outside). Place Lab clients can
determine their location privately without constant interaction with a
central service (unlike badge tracking or mobile phone location services
where the service owns your location information).

The Place Lab approach is to allow devices like notebooks, PDAs and
cell phones to locate themselves by listening for radio beacons such as
802.11 access points, GSM cell phone towers, and fixed Bluetooth devices
that already exist in large numbers around us in the environment. These
beacons all have unique or semi-unique IDs, for example, a MAC address.
Clients compute their own location by hearing one or more IDs, looking
up the associated beacons’ positions in a locally cached map, and
estimating their own position referenced to the beacons’ positions.

Note that Place Lab will work best if you have (or create) an account
on wigle.net to access WLAN beacon databases.

Bug#244582: ufoai packages

2008-03-23 Thread Teemu Ikonen
Hi,

There's been some progress in the packaging of ufoai 2.2. Attached to
this mail is a wig and pen style debian.tar.gz archive containing the
debian dir and a quilt patch series. To build, unpack the archive and
run the get-orig-source target of debian/rules. This will build an
orig.tar by exporting from upstream SVN. The orig.tar should then be
unpacked and the debian dir copied on top of the source directory.
After that run debian/rules binary. Be warned that the compilation of
the maps takes ages (> 12 h here).

Thanks for the input, hadn't realized that there is an active version
of libhnj around. I've had a long and thorough look at it, and unfortu-
nately it still uses the same old libhnj code - which is 5000 lines of
basically undocumented code (compared to libhyphenate's 1300 heavily
documented lines for a lot more functionality). Back when I wrote lib-
hyphenate, I tried to improve that code, and it proved quite hard - a
lot harder than a complete rewrite.

On the positive side, I've a small C file here that provides a library
interface that is binary-compatible to libhyphen. I'll write to the
maintainers of libhyphen, check with them on my implementation (which
even fixes libhyphen bugs), and make sure that libhyphen gets replaced
if possible. There really should not be two libraries with the same job
around, but unfortunately libhyphen is unmaintainable.

Thank you very much for your help. I've changed the description to:

The new version of the comment is:
This library provides an implementation of Frank Liangs hyphenation
algorithm, better known as the TeX hyphenation algorithm, for C++ and C.
The algorithm is similar to the one used by libhnj/libhyphen, but
handles hyphenation-free areas at the start and end of words correctly.
libhyphenate1 supports English, German, French and Spanish out of
the box, and every site with a TeX installation can distill its
TeX hyphenation files for more languages.
 .
This package comes with complete documentation for the interface
and the process of pattern generation.

Is that better?

Regards, Steve

Description : A simple handler to log messages to a log file

This module is just a simple object oriented log file handler and very easy to
use.
It's possible to define a log level for your programs and control the amount of
informations that will be logged to the log file. In addition it's possible to
configure
how you wish to open the log file - transient or permanent - and lock and
unlock the
log file by each write operation. If you wish you can assign the handler to
check the
inode of the log file (not on Windows). That could be very useful if a rotate

Config::INI::Simple is for very simplistic reading and writing of INI files. A
new object must
be created for each INI file (an object keeps all the data read in from an INI
which is used
on the write method to write to the INI). It also keeps all your comments and
original order
 intact.

Description : A media player daemon

Deejayd is a multi purpose media player that can be completely controlled
through the network using XML messages.
It suppports playlists, searching, many media tags. It can playback many
music and video formats using either its xine (recommended) or its gstreamer
backend.

Preliminary packaging may be browsed in the upstream VCS viewer[0]. Built
packages work well, are lintian and linda clean, and build in a clean pbuilder
chroot.

I plan to search for a sponsor once we sort some internal bug and some
packaging issues (remove debian/* from upstream tarball[1] as DDs mostly seem
to prefer that).

Reporting any issue (on the packaging or on the sofware) is very welcome,
especially because this is my first debian package.

The current maintainer of clanlib, Filip Van Raemdonck <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
is apparently not active anymore. Therefore, I orphan this package now.

work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see

Description: JPEG module for ClanLib game SDK
ClanLib delivers a platform independent interface to write games with.
If a game is written with ClanLib, it should be possible to compile the
game under any platform (supported by ClanLib, that is) without changing
 the application source code.
 .
But ClanLib is not just a wrapper library, providing a common interface
to low-level libraries such as DirectFB, DirectX, OpenGL, X11, etc. While
platform independence is ClanLib's primary goal, it also tries to be a
service-minded game SDK. In other words, we have put great effort into
designing the API, to ensure ClanLib's ease of use - while maintaining its
 power.

This package contains the JPEG module (clanJPEG).

I have preliminary 1.1 packages which I need to update to 1.1.1, and
once I've done that I'll be seeking a sponsor on debian-mentors unless
I am approached beforehand. (hint hint ^_^)

no dropped packets, and all 65536 IP addresses were scanned in less than

Description : Versioning filesystem for FUSE

CopyFS keeps versioned copies of all the changes done to file under its
control. It can be useful for a directory where configuration files
are stored, for example.

CopyFS can be configured to store up to a configurable amount of
previous versions: maximum number of revisions, data size ot data age.

diff is used to store versions instead of keeping a full copy for

Description : Versioning filesystem for FUSE

CopyFS keeps versioned copies of all changes done to files under its
control and allows the user to revert back to any previous revision.

CopyFS can be configured to store a configurable number of versions
based on the number of revisions, data size or age and supports tagging.

The changes are internally stored as diffs, so the amount of disk space
required is relatively small.

Sort::Fields provides a general purpose technique for efficiently

I'm not interested in uploading a new version with a proper copyright
statement right now. Therefore considering the age of the code and so

I hereby declare Sort::Fields to be in the public domain.

Hope that helps. Feel free to publish this statement where necessary.

Teeworlds is a fast-paced sidescrolling multiplayer-only shoot 'em up computer
game. The game features
cartoon-themed graphics and physics, and relies heavily on classic shooter
weaponry and gameplay. The controls are
heavily inspired by the FPS genre of computer games. The latest release is
0.4.1. With version 0.4.0 the game
changed name from teewars to teeworld. (from:

Sorry to take so long to get back to you on this. I've looked over the
package again and its looking really good. I've got a few comments
in-line:

Looks like you updated to the svn r1112... but I took so long to get
back to you, Sphinx-0.9.8-rc1 (r1198; Mar 06, 2008) is out now, and this one
is being called the stable beta... Since it may take a while to get this
through NEW, maybe it should be bumped again?

Looks like you removed it, thats fine.

Looks taken care of.

Both look good now.

Last I recall you were waiting for someone to provide an initscript,
have you heard anything about this? If it doesn't look like its coming
soon, what would you like to do? From my basic understanding of Sphinx
the daemon needs to be running to be useful and a regular cronjob
needs to be run to rebuild the index.

Now there are no config files installed at all? I can't find anything in
/etc/defaults, /etc/sphinxsearch, or /etc -- if you try to start searchd
like this, you get:

FATAL: no readable config file (looked in /etc/sphinxsearch/sphinx.conf,
./sphinx.conf).

Not sure whats going on with these as there is no config now... and
there is no log created either.

Looks like these are resolved, great.

Something I noticed on package build:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: debian/sphinxsearch/usr/bin/searchd shouldn't be
linked with libz.so.1 (it uses none of its symbols).

Whats up with that?

Finally, something unrelated to the actual packaging, but I did notice
that there were quite a few warnings that were generated during
compilation in sid. You might want to send some of these upstream to get
things cleaned up so that sphinxsearch will continue to build against
the latest compilers, for example:
