Bug#483297: ITP: fossology -- Free and Open Source Software analysis framework

2008-05-28 Thread Matt Taggart
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Matt Taggart <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: fossology
  Version : 0.8.0
Upstream Author : The FOSSology Project <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://fossology.org/
* License : (GPL, LGPL)
  Programming Lang: (C, PHP)
Description : Free and Open Source Software analysis framework

Long Description:
An open and modular architecture for analyzing software. Existing
modules include license analysis, meta data extraction, and MIME type
identification. This open source software tool analyzes a given set of
software packages, and reports items such as the software licenses used
by these packages.

More than simply reporting, “Package X uses license Y,” the FOSSology
tool attempts to analyze every file within the package to determine its
license. The license report is thus an aggregate of all of the different
licenses found to be in use by a package. A single package may be
labeled as “GPL” but contain files that use other licenses (BSD, OSL, or
any of the hundreds of other licenses). Even if an exact license is
unknown, the license may be identifiable by common license phrases.

Digging deeper, the FOSSology project is intended as a general-purpose
data mining tool. It can be extended by adding new Agents to analyze all
sorts of meta information about Free and Open Source Software – not just
licenses, but code re-use, security alerts, bug fixes and patches,
project information, usage statistics – just about anything you could
imagine!

Status:
I also work on the upstream project and have been working on cleaning up
the upstream source in order to make packaging easier, doing things like
fixing FHS bugs, making sure the depends and build-deps are available
in debian and work well, and rewriting the build and install
infrastructure to enable modular packaging and automated end user
setup (database initialization, data repository setup, etc.) There is a
lot to be done, but we're getting closer to having packages suitable for
experimental soon. I will send more updates to this bug as I make
progress.

Bug#479488: How about team work ?

2008-05-28 Thread Romain Beauxis
Hi !

I found your ITP only today.

If you are packaging an extension for mediawiki, I would rather propose you to
join the Mediawiki Packaging Team and add it inside the -extensions package.

Would you agree ?

The package waits for its sponsor to be checked and uploaded.

You haven't read the last activity neither do you know about the state
of the software to be packaged. It _depends_ on xulrunner-1.9.

There are sentences in the bugreport like "... but depends on
xulrunner 1.9 which is not yet in Debian...", "xulrunner-1.9 is now in
experimental, do you want to wait until it lands in unstable or will
we see conkeror in experimental as well?" and "Since it's still in
heavy developement I plan to put it into experimental first. I started
working on it a few days after xulrunner-1.9 hit experimental."

Please read the bugreport completely before writing such mails.

Regards, Axel

Many of Moose's features can be customized through the use of custom

Moose::Policy removes most of that hairiness and makes it possible to
cleanly contain a set of meta-level customizations in one easy to use

Using this class to load Moose instead of just loading using
Moose itself makes your constructors "strict". If your constructor

declare, then it calls "Carp::confess()". This is a great way to catch

Python wrapper for the LAPACK functions to solve the standard and

used by NumPy (linalg.eig and linalg.eigh).

Description : manipulation and filtering of images in Java

A large number of Java Image filters which are all standard Java
BufferedImageOps
and can be plugged directly into existing programs.
.
Many of these filters are useful in applications such as games where images
need to be generated on the fly, or where it's quicker to generate them rather
than downloading them. For instance, it's quicker to download one image
and rotate it several times than to download several separate images.
.
Another use for the filters is in animation. For example animating the Water
Ripple filter can produce a nice rippling effect. Some of the filters have a
time parameter for this purpose.
.
All of the filters are designed to work with TYPE_INT_ARGB images.

Description : parses all Gene Ontology files formats and types

This is a collection of perl code for dealing with Gene Ontologies (GO)
and OBO style ontologies. It is part of the `go-dev' distribution, but
this Debian package is made from the CPAN archive. This package
contains both scripts (which can be used with no knowledge of perl),
and libraries which will be of use to perl programmers using GO or OBO.

(OBO is a format for defining ontologies, but I did not manage to find
the exact meaning of the acronym yet…)

I am unsure if a libfoo-perl package can provide scripts? (CC'ed
debian-perl). This library is necessary for the GFF3 validator, for
which I will issue an ITP soon. I will use CPAN as the source, because
the `go-dev' distribution is a beast whose source is > 40 Mio, and I
will not have time to package it.

Note to self: the html doc files link to INSTALL and INSTALL.html, I
have to include them.

Bug#483382: ITP: barnowl -- curses based jabber, zephyr and IRC client

2008-05-28 Thread Sam Hartman

package: wnpp
severity: wishlist

Barnowl can be obtained from http://barnowl.mit.edu/. It is a fork of
owl, which is already in Debian. Barnowl adds Jabber and IRc support
and fixes many bugs providing a new extensibility architecture.

I've discussed my plans to package barnowl with the Owl maintainer
(Mark Eichin). he supports barnowl being packaged for Debian. At
some future point it may be desirable to remove owl. Today though we
both believe that would be a big transition for the owl community

The main body of barnowl is distributed under the following license:

Description : a compression http proxy

ziproxy is a forwarding (non-caching) proxy that gzips text and HTML files,
and reduces the size of images by converting them to lower quality JPEGs.
It is intended to increase the speed for low-speed Internet connections and
it's suitable for both home and professional usage. ziproxy is fully
configurable and also features transparent proxy mode, preemptive name
resolution, operation in either daemon mode or (x)inetd mode, a detailed
access log with compression statistics, basic authentication, and more.

Description: Ruby plugin adding pagination to ActiveRecord

Pagination is just limiting the number of records displayed, showing a
subset of them at any given view, and allowing you to move the
displayed window. This plugin makes the whole process a breeze.

WillPaginate is aimed at being used from the Ruby on Rails framework.

Bug#483458: ITP: python-buzhug -- pure-Python database engine, using a Pythonic, no-SQL syntax

2008-05-28 Thread Luciano Bello
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: python-cluster
  Version : 1.1.1b3
  Upstream Author : Michel Albert
* URL : http://python-cluster.sourceforge.net/
* License : LGPL
Description : allows grouping a list of arbitrary objects into related
groups (clusters)

python-cluster is a "simple" package that allows to create several groups
(clusters) of objects from a list. It's meant to be flexible and able to
cluster any object. To ensure this kind of flexibility, you need not only to
supply the list of objects, but also a function that calculates the similarity
between two of those objects. For simple datatypes, like integers, this can be
as simple as a subtraction, but more complex calculations are possible. Right
now, it is possible to generate the clusters using a hierarchical clustering
and the popular K-Means algorithm. For the hierarchical algorithm there are
different "linkage" (single, complete, average and uclus) methods available.

Bug#483479: RFA: ddccontrol -- a program to control monitor parameters

2008-05-28 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I request an adopter for the ddccontrol package. Upstream lost interest
some time ago and for a long time I have entertained the notion of
taking over upstream mainenance. However, it has become apparent that I
lack sufficient time and interest (I use ddccontrol much less now than I
did in the past). The package is currently bug free and is very easy to
maintain.

Since upstream is dead, or the project is feature complete, depending on
your perspective, prospective maintainers should consider taking over
upstream maintenance as well. I am an admin on the sourceforge project
and can provide admin access to someone truly interested in taking over.
I will also remain available to answer questions regarding the package.

Should someone not step forward by the time Lenny is released, I will
simply orphan the package.

Please check the related bug for ddccontrol-db, which is a part of
ddccontrol upstream.

The package description is:
DDCcontrol is a tool used to control monitor parameters, like brightness
and contrast, without using the OSD (On Screen Display) and the buttons
 in front of the monitor.

Bug#483480: RFA: ddccontrol-db -- monitor database for ddccontrol

2008-05-28 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I request an adopter for the ddccontrol-db package. Upstream lost
interest some time ago and for a long time I have entertained the notion
of taking over upstream mainenance. However, it has become apparent
that I lack sufficient time and interest (I use ddccontrol much less now
than I did in the past). The package is currently (almost) bug free and
is very easy to maintain.

Since upstream is dead, prospective maintainers should consider taking
over upstream maintenance as well. In the case of the ddccontrol-db
package, I have added quite a few new monitors to the database but have
not made a new release. There is still a backlog of 70+ monitors to add
to the database, but adding them is not terribly complicated. I am an

2008-05-28 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I request an adopter for the httperf package. As of some time ago I
have lost interest in the package and do not use it much anymore. The
package first entered Debian nearly seven years ago and in that time has
not seen a new upstream release. The project can be said to be "feature
complete", and so the lack of upstream activity is not a problem. The
package is currently bug free and very easy to maintain. I have kept
the package in svn since taking it over and would be glad to provide the
entire svn history to whomever chooses to adopt this package.

The package description is:
httperf is a tool to measure web server performance. It speaks the HTTP
protocol both in its HTTP/1.0 and HTTP/1.1 flavors and offers a variety of
workload generators. While running, it keeps track of a number of performance
metrics that are summarized in the form of statistics that are printed at
the end of a test run.

Bug#483483: RFA: releaseforge -- alternative to SourceForge's File Release System (FRS)

2008-05-28 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I request an adopter for the releaseforge package. While I still use
releaseforge on occasion, I am not really interested in maintaining the
package any longer. Upstream has not made a new release in nearly 18
months. However, the software is stable and the Debian package is bug
free.

The only thing a potential maintainer might have to look after is
SourceForge's occasional mucking with the HTML on their site enough to
confuse releaseforge. However, this has happened only once.

If someone does not come forward by the release of Lenny to adopt this
package, I will simply orphan it.

The package description is:
An open source utility designed for the administrators and
release engineers of SourceForge projects. ReleaseForge allows
you to easily create new SourceForge project releases and edit
existing releases in a quicker and friendlier manner than the
usual SourceForge web interface. After using ReleaseForge once,
you'll wonder how you ever could've lived without it.
 .
To use this package, you must already have an account with
SourceForge and have a project hosted with them to release
 files.

I request an adopter for the vncsnapshot package. I have come to find
it not as useful as it once was. Upstream has been inactive for several

maintenance of this package also took over upstream maintenance as well.
