Bug#491805: RFS: sqlline

2008-08-17 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Damien Raude-Morvan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (13/08/2008):
> Cyril, did you have time to sponsor this package (if it's ok for you,
> of course)?

Here are some comments:
 - I assume libjline-java will pull the needed java machinery so you
   don't have to depend on a java runtime environment; is that correct?
 - I assume ant doesn't call any java-ish stuff in the clean target;
   otherwise you would have to move java-gcj-compat-dev to B-D.
 - Please add full stops at the end of the sentences of your long
   description. The other dots are only here for “folding” (see RFC
   (2)822).
 - Nothing important, but you have trailing spaces in debian/copyright,
   you may want to use show-wspace.el if you're an Emacs user.
 - Not sure whether you're pointing at the BSD license is sufficient,
   usually (at least for GPL), a blurb is needed (3 paragraphs). But if
   you're confident enough, I leave that up to ftpmasters. :)
 - Also, when packaging something under a “liberal” license (like the
   BSD licenses), you may want to license the packaging under the same
   license, that might help upstream integrate patches, and so on.
 - I'd s/(C)/©/ in your copyright statement (about Debian packaging)
   since only “Copyright”, “Copr.”, and “©” are legally recognized.
 - You may want to limit the line length of your README.Debian to <= 80
   characters; might improve readibility, especially on servers with
   only the default 80x25 console.
 - No space before “:”, “;”, “!”, etc. in English (same file).
 - Also, s/take/takes/.
 - README.source (whitespaces again) can disappear. All copyright info
   must be in debian/copyright, so please move its contents there.
 - debian/rules:
- whitespaces line 2.
- if you're using dh_install in “install/sqlline:”, no need to add
  this directory to the “dirs” file.
- you could modify this target like that:
   - put the jar file and its location in an “install” file.
   - do the same for the wrapper.
   - only do a “mv” in this target.
   - the “dirs” file can go away.
 - I think we already discussed the presence of svn-deblayout so I won't
   insist on it. :)

That was only a review of the most important things of the source part,
I'll have a look at the build/binary part once you've addressed some of
those points. ;-)

Mraw,
KiBi.

  Description : Driver-based API for sending SMS messages

 The SMS::Send perl module is intended to provide a driver-based single API for
 sending SMS and MMS messages. The intent is to provide a single API against
 which to write the code to send an SMS message.
 .
 At the same time, the intent is to remove the limits of some of the
 previous attempts at this sort of API, like "must be free internet-based
 SMS services".
 .
 SMS::Send drivers are installed separately, and might use the web,
 email or physical SMS hardware. It could be a free or paid. The details
 shouldn't matter.
 .
 You should not have to care how it is actually sent, only that it has
 been sent (although some drivers may not be able to provide certainty).

  Best regards,
Vincent

  Description : test module to validate a CPAN META.yml file

 The Test::CPAN::Meta module was written to ensure that a META.yml file,
 provided with a standard distribution uploaded to CPAN, meets the
 specifications that are slowly being introduced to module uploads, via the use
 of package makers and installers such as ExtUtils::MakeMaker, Module::Build
 and Module::Install.

  Description : cross-platform basic tests for scripts

 The intent of this module is to provide a series of basic tests for
 scripts in the bin directory of your Perl distribution.
 .
 Further, it aims to provide them with perfect platform-compatibility and
 in a way that is as unobtrusive as possible.
 .
 That is, if the program works on a platform, then Test::Script should
 also work on that platform.

  Best regards,
Vincent

* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Class-Adapter/

  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Perl implementation of the "Adapter" Design Pattern

 The Class::Adapter class is intended as an abstract base class for creating
 any sort of class or object that follows the Adapter pattern.
 .
 The term Adapter refers to a "Design Pattern" of the same name, from the
 famous "Gang of Four" book "Design Patterns". Although their original
 implementation was designed for Java and similar single-inheritance
 strictly-typed langauge, the situation for which it applies is still valid.
 .
 An Adapter in this Perl sense of the term is when a class is created to
 achieve by composition (objects containing other object) something that can't
 be achieved by inheritance (sub-classing).
 .
 This is similar to the Decorator pattern, but is intended to be applied on a
 class-by-class basis, as opposed to being able to be applied one object at a
 time, as is the case with the Decorator pattern.

PS: this perl module is a dependency of Koha. I do not know it at all. I
wrote the description from the documentation but I would accept any
proposed improvment.

  Description : Perl module to parse an ASCII string containing fixed

 The Parse::FixedLength module facilitates the process of breaking
 a string into its fixed-length components. Sure, it's a glorified
 (and in some ways more limited) substitute for the perl functions pack and
 unpack, but this module helps in the maintainability of working with fixed
 length formats as the number of fields in a format grows.

Pod::Strip is a subclass of Pod::Simple that removes the POD (plain old
documentation) from Perl code. The POD may optionally be replaced with comments
so that line numbers of the code stay the same.
.
Pod::Strip is useful in Perl code parsers that don't want to bother about POD.

  Description : find a minimum required version of perl for Perl code

 Perl::MinimumVersion takes Perl source code and calculates the minimum
 version of perl required to be able to run it. Because it is based on
 PPI, it can do this without having to actually load the code.
 .
 Currently it tests both the syntax of your code, and the use of explicit
 version dependencies such as "require 5.005".
 .
 Future plans are to also add support for tracing module dependencies.

  Best regards,
Vincent

  Description : module to parse META.yml and other similar CPAN metadata
files

 Parse::CPAN::Meta is a parser for META.yml files, based on the
 parser half of YAML::Tiny.
 .
 It supports a basic subset of the full YAML specification, enough to
 implement parsing of typical META.yml files, and other similarly simple
 YAML files.
 .
 If you need something with more power, move up to a full YAML parser such
 as YAML, YAML::Syck or YAML::LibYAML.
 .
 Parse::CPAN::Meta provides a very simply API of only two functions, based
 on the YAML functions of the same name. Wherever possible, identical
 calling semantics are used.

  Best regards,
Vincent

Bug#492666: RFP: pacpl -- Converts audio files between popular formats

I'm working on pacpl package:

- I packaged two perl dependencies not yet included in Debian
  (libaudio-musepack-perl and libaudio-wma-perl);
- I sent upstream three patches which would really help Debian packaging
  (but they are also useful for other distros): fix Makefile default
  installation directories and uninstall target, fix a lintian warning
  about manpage, and other small changes. I also convinced him to move
  .po translation files from /etc to a better path. He seems very
  responsive.

As now, I'm waiting for upstream to release version 4.0.3 including
these changes.

Cristian

* Package name: replaceit
  Version : 1.0.0
  Upstream Author : Paul Daniels <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://pldaniels.com/replaceit/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : A quick, light and effective text replacement tool

ReplaceIt was written as a quick, light and effective replacement to the
combination of sed/awk/grep/head/tail and other such shell utilities, as
well as being quicker in startup (at least) than an equivilant Perl
solution.

ReplaceIt has various rules which can be used to enhance its abilities
when negotiating tricky sections of text, whilst searching for the right
one to replace, these include [ on same line ] string inclusion
dependence, exclusion dependence, pre-existance, post-existance.

NOTE: ReplaceIt is a line-by-line file parser, so, it cannot (at this
point) process across multiple \n[\r] terminated lines.

Bug#352616: ITA: libpalm-perl -- Perl 5 modules for manipulating pdb and prc database files

Thanks for your initiative in this, Tim.

The Changes file is not very verbose unfortunately. "catches up for
all the changes since Nov 2002 :/"

> The new versioning style may require adding an epoch... or should

libpalm-perl is better, as the main module is Palm (and others are all
Palm::Foo). About the versions, I'd use upstream version mangling in
debian/watch.

The currently present version is 1.3.0, and the new upstream release
is 1.009. So I'd add

opts="uversionmangle=s/\.0+/./"

to the beginning of the watch line. This way the 1.009 will become
1.9.

Or, use an epoch. I find epochs ugly, but version mangling is not that
nice either.
