Description: library to determine DNS server vendor, product and version
Identifying individual nameserver implementations is based on "borderline"
protocol behaviour. The DNS protocol offers a multitude of message bits,
response types, opcodes, classes, query types and label types in a fashion
that makes some mutually exclusive while some are not used in a query

Not every implementation offers the full set of features the DNS protocol
set currently has. Some implementations offer features outside the protocol
set, and there are implementations that do not conform to standards.

unfortunately i'm not available for sponsoring (yet). But what about asking on
debian-mentors[1]? You can also have a look into http://mentors.debian.net.

it would be neat to have the package available in the debian archive.

Thanks for your work. With kind regards, Jan.

Thanks to help from the Debian GIS team I have migrated my private
subversion repository to git, for team maintainership.

It's available at

http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-grass/mapnik.git

With that off my hands, I plan to take a back seat in mapnik and I'll
be unsubscribing from -devel after posting this.

Best wishes,
Dominic.

Bug#552705: ITP: mp4v2 -- a library that provides functions to read, eate, and modify mp4 files

Fabian Greffrath wrote:
> I think, however, that its license (MPL) makes the package mostly

I agree completely.

Actually, melodie.app is under a non-copyleft license but of course
Debian will distribute it under GPL, since our ffmpeg libs are under
GPL. When I mentioned this to upsteeam (that we can't link against
libavcodec/libavformat and mp4v2 even if/when the latter is packaged
in Debian) they said that it's a distro's problem if the distro ships
"GPL-contaminated" (sic) ffmpeg.

FWIW, they just use mp4v2's tags functionality (which was implemented
in taglib) and intend to drop the dependency when a new taglib release
is made (which I think is already a fact).

I humbly suggest to keep mp4v2 on hold and avoid uploading it until
there is actually any benefit -- libraries with no reverse
dependencies are mostly useless.

P.S. When I was investigating this issue (i.e. why mp4v2 is not in
Debian) about 2 years ago I vaguely remember an old ITP and a
discussion that it cannot be in Debian due to patents concerns.
Upstream's homepage at SF (back then) was pretty scary, too.
Sorry I can't give any references right now.

Fine, but AFAICT gtkpod is licensed under the GPL. Is it OK to link it
against a library that is licensed under the MPL?

Anyway, pkg-multimedia team mates, would you please consider uploading
the package?

gtkpod needs libmp4v2 to be able to handle aac/mp4 files. Which is the
native format for the iPod, so... definitely useful. And I'd *love* to
see gtkpod in Debian built with libmp4v2 enabled.

So we've got one package where the support for libmp4v2 has to be
ripped out because of license incompatibilities and another one which
will most probably never enter Debian.

Well, I prepared the mp4v2 packages anyway:
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/mp4v2.git

I think, however, that its license (MPL) makes the package mostly
useless for linking against all GPL'ed software - which is, well,
quite a lot.

If any of the listening DDs find use in this package, please consider
uploading anyway.

Bug#552499: ITP: svox -- Small Footprint TTS

2009-10-29 Thread Mathieu Parent (Debian)
Hello,

The current packages are on collab-maint git:
http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/svox.git;a=summary (WIP)

On Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 7:16 PM, Tzafrir Cohen wrote:

Those are "lingware". I have to figure out what is the format to allow
inclusion in main.

As I understand now:
- Those lingware are loaded in memory with picorsrc_loadResource() in
lib/picorsrc.c.
- They are not executed from memory (this is a guess, as svox is
cross-platform), but interpreted (they probably contain some FFT and
DCT parameters, see lib/picofftsg.c)
- The process is in sigProcess (lib/picosig.c)

What probably need to be done is to convert those binaries into some
text format (XML or something) to allow inclusion in Debian.

I have reported this as http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4415

Regards

Mathieu Parent

munin 1.4 will be released at the end of november 2009 :-)
I've also seen commit to the postgresql plugins in trunk recently..

2009-10-29 Thread Valentyn Pavliuchenko
I've made debian package for it (although I'm a newbie in Debian package
creation). I've send that to synaptiks developer and I hope he will include
debian/ directory into synaptiks trunk.
That package also has a Russian translation as a patch.
If someone is interested I can send all what I have.

Melodie.app from etoile (new release not yet packaged for Debian,

libavcodec, so I've patched it out as the licenses are incompatible.

Bug#533112: Status of libhimd

2009-10-29 Thread Adrian Glaubitz
Hello,

I am writing this message just to assure that the project is still
going strong and we have been making alot progress recently. However,
we still don't feel that the software is mature enough for being
packaged for Debian. The main reason is that the HiMD libraries (libhimd)
are still subject to frequent changes so that we cannot yet provide a
stable release.

Since the idea is to keep the library libhimd split from the GUI
application "qhimdtransfer" with the help of a dynamically linked
library, we would eventually end up in dozens of .so.XX versions of
the library due to the frequent changes.

We therefore ask for some more patience. However, anybody is always
free to pull the latest code from git and build and run the software
on Debian. Build instructions specifically for Debian can be found in
our wiki.

Regards,

Adrian

Description: wxPython-based GUI construction framework (meta-package)
PythonCard is a GUI construction framework for building cross-platform desktop
applications on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, using the Python language. It
is based on the wxPython bindings for the wxWidgets toolkit (formerly known
 as wxWindows).
 .
This is a meta-package which is intended to be used by developers who want the
entire upstream distribution available to them. Maintainers of other packages
that rely on PythonCard functionality should consider depending on one or more
of the related packages (python-pythoncard, pythoncard-tools) as needed instead
 of this meta-package.

Description: wxPython-based GUI construction framework (optional development
tools)
PythonCard is a GUI construction framework for building cross-platform desktop
applications on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, using the Python language. It
is based on the wxPython bindings for the wxWidgets toolkit (formerly known
 as wxWindows).
 .
This package takes the tools that are part of the PythonCard distribution
(such as codeEditor and resourceEditor) and makes them available to be called
from the command-line and from the standard Debian menus. It has been split
out as a separate package since only developers will need access to the tools
directly - packages which depend on PythonCard will just import the tool
modules and use what they need.

2009-10-29 Thread noname
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: opentyrian
Version : No official releases; they just try to keep the code
repository stable
  Upstream Author : http://code.google.com/p/opentyrian/people/list
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/opentyrian/
* License : GPLv2
  Programming Lang: C
Description : OpenTyrian is a port of the DOS shoot-em-up Tyrian. Jason
Emery generously gave the OpenTyrian developers a copy of the Tyrian 2.1 source
code, which has since been ported from Turbo Pascal to C. The port uses SDL,
making it easily cross-platform.

Like openttd (Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe) only the source code is GPL, so
the data files would have to be downloaded separately.

Description: Multi-threaded Routing Toolkit (BGP4+/BGP/RIPng/RIP2)
MRT is a set of Routing and Network Performance measurement tools, with
BGP4+/BGP/RIPng/RIP2 routing software (now includes DVMRP and PIM-DM)
 .
MRT uses novel approaches to routing architecture design, and
incorporates features such as parallel lightweight processes, multiple
processor support, and shared memory. The object-oriented, modular
design of the software encourages the rapid addition and prototyping
of experimental routing protocol and inter-domain policy algorithms.
 .
You can use MRT applications and libraries to:
   * Serve as the backbone routing software for your IPv6 or IPv4
 network connection.
   * Simultaneously handle tasks such as routing policy communication,
routing policy calculation, and maintenance of a RIB, and
distribute these tasks over multiple processors or multiple
 machines
   * Generate and analyze route flap statistics
   * Generate real-time graphical maps of Internet routing
   * Capture a BGP peering session and monitor it in real time
   * Record and replay sequences of events, such as routing failures

Bug#553065: ITP: cfget -- too to read values from config files

2009-10-29 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Enrico Zini

* Package name: cfget
  Version : 0.7
  Upstream Author : Enrico
* URL : http://www.enricozini.org/sw/cfget/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : featureful tool to read values from config files

cfget is a simple yet featureful tool to read values from configuration
files. It is useful, for example, to create configurable shellscripts
 or makefiles.
 .
Besides retrieving values, it can dump the information in several convenient
ways, like a set of sh exports commands that can be conveniently passed to
eval. It can also use the configuration values to expand template files.
 .
It can also be configured to support virtual configuration values that, if not
present in the config file, are automatically computed from the existing
values. This makes it convenient, for example, to get a "duration" value from
a configuration file that only contains a "start date" and an "end date".
 .
It is also easy to create plugins to provide custom templating systems, export
styles, dynamic values and even custom configuration file parsers.

Right
I was studying code for reactivate the project, and the upstream told me he
doesn't work on the
project any more, because there are better tools, i was trying to reactivate
the project, but i
think would be better to remove it from the debian repositories

What must I do
