Please consider providing a package for entropy-broker. This program
provides a mechanism for distributing entropy gathered from various
hardware and software sources to clients such as virtual machines which
may not have good sources to gather their own entropy from.

More details are available here:

 You have to understand that the switch from at-spi to at-spi2 is
 very very substantial and likely will break a few things.

They're part of GNOME 2.30 as optional alternative to at-spi(1).
at-spi(1) is still in the platform and at-spi2 is part of the desktop
suite.

It would be great to have both available in squeeze as alternatives
IMHO.

I am really not sure right now.

You have to understand that the switch from at-spi to at-spi2 is
very very substantial and likely will break a few things.

Additionally, upstream of a lot of GNOME accessibility stuff
has just been fired by Oracle, so this switch comes at
the worst time possible, with very little upstream support.

I am not so happy with changing the accessibility backend
beneath our asses a few days before releasing squeeze.

Personally, I'd like to see squeeze released with at-spi(1)
to ensure a decent user experience, and switch to at-spi2
in squeeze+1 development.

However, if anyone can demonstrate at-spi2 stability, I guess
a switch is fine as well. But this needs to be tested a lot, by
people that *use* the infrastructure so that we can be sure we havent
missed anything.

Bug#575938: ITP: dh-autoreconf -- debhelper add-on to call autoreconf and clean up after the build

2010-03-30 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Julian Andres Klode j...@debian.org

  Version : 1
  Upstream Author : Julian Andres Klode j...@debian.org
* License : GPL-2
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : debhelper add-on to call autoreconf and clean up after the
build

Package: dh-autoreconf
Architecture: all
Depends: ${misc:Depends}, autoconf, automake | automaken, libtool
Description: debhelper add-on to call autoreconf and clean up after the build
 dh-autoreconf provides a debhelper sequence addon named 'autoreconf' and two
 commands, dh_autoreconf and dh_autoreconf_clean.
 .
 The dh_autoreconf command creates a list of the files and their checksums,
 calls autoreconf and then creates a second list for the new files.
 .
 The dh_autoreconf_clean command compares these two lists and removes all
 files which have been added or changed (files may be excluded if needed).

I am using this inside the gnome-main-menu package and it works perfectly,
although a bit slow because it creates md5sums of the whole source tree
two times (I may add an option to use timestamp+size instead for larger
source packages).

(Please note that I'm not subscribed to debian-devel, so please keep the
 bug report or me in To/CC)

It seems that we could also read the requested versions of automake and

Bug#568140: RFA: ent -- pseudorandom number sequence test program

2010-03-30 Thread Timo Lindfors
Hi,

I use ent about once a month to get a rough estimate on entropy. This is
useful for detecting compressed content and also encryption keys :-) I
do not need speed. For me the value of ent package is that I can
quickly get a rough entropy estimate without having to write my own
program that uses some statistics library.

If you are planning to drop the current package, how about replacing it
with a wrapper that just uses python-stats for the statistics? This way
there would be less code to maintain but users would still get a simple
way to do entropy calculations from command line.

Just to check how difficult this would be I hacked together a partial
replacement:

#!/usr/bin/python
import stats, sys, math

freq = [0] * 256
total = 0
data = open(sys.argv[1]).read()
for i in data:
freq[ord(i)] += 1
total += 1

prob = [None] * 256
for i in xrange(256):
if freq[i]  0:
prob[i] = float(freq[i]) / total

ent = 0
for i in xrange(256):
if prob[i]:
ent += prob[i] * math.log(1 / prob[i]) / math.log(2)

print(Entropy = %f bits per byte. % ent)
print()
print(Optimum compression would reduce the size)
print(of this %s byte file by %s percent. % (len(data), 100 * (8-ent)
/ 8))
print()
print(Chi square distribution for %ld samples is %1.2f, and randomly %
  (len(data), stats.lchisquare(freq)[0]))

Testcase:

$ seq 1 20  testcase
$ ent testcase
Entropy = 2.727072 bits per byte.

Optimum compression would reduce the size
of this 51 byte file by 65 percent.

Chi square distribution for 51 samples is 2885.47, and randomly
would exceed this value 0.01 percent of the times.

Arithmetic mean value of data bytes is 35.0980 (127.5 = random).
Monte Carlo value for Pi is 4.0 (error 27.32 percent).
Serial correlation coefficient is -0.668931 (totally uncorrelated = 0.0).

vs.

$ ./ent.py testcase
Entropy = 2.727072 bits per byte.

Optimum compression would reduce the size
of this 51 byte file by 65.9115948451 percent.

Chi square distribution for 51 samples is 2885.47, and randomly

Meanwhile you can install de Ubuntu package.

I downloaded and installed the .deb package from

Bug#575953: ITP: gmock -- Google's framework for writing and using C++ mock classes

  Version : 1.4.0

* URL : http://code.google.com/p/googlemock
* License : Google (SEE BELOW)
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Google's framework for writing and using C++ mock classes

Google's framework for writing and using C++ mock classes on Linux,
Mac OS X, and Windows. Inspired by jMock, EasyMock, and Hamcrest, and
designed with C++'s specifics in mind, it can help you derive better
designs of your system and write better tests.

Google Mock:

- provides a declarative syntax for defining mocks,
- can easily define partial (hybrid) mocks, which are a cross of real
  and mock objects,
- handles functions of arbitrary types and overloaded functions,
- comes with a rich set of matchers for validating function arguments,
- uses an intuitive syntax for controlling the behavior of a mock,
- does automatic verification of expectations (no record-and-replay
  needed),
- allows arbitrary (partial) ordering constraints on
  function calls to be expressed,
- lets a user extend it by defining new matchers and actions.
- does not use exceptions, and
- is easy to learn and use.

I've neglected libjsw for far too long; I just don't have any real interest
in maintaining it these days (and anyway it's ages since I last used a
joystick, and even then it was an old one with a standard DB9 connector).

searchandrescue and oxine depend on libjsw, and bug 458774 says that oxine
needs libjsw 1.56; jscalibrator should be ported to GTK+2 sometime.

This follows up discussion in -games:

Hello,

Are you still interested in packaging libautobox-core-perl? I'm working
on packaging libperl5i-perl which depends on it and it would be great to
get it in the archive.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. If you're amenable
I'd be happy to prepare a package for your review, or take the ITP and
upload.

Same for libautobox-list-util and libclass-perl

  Description : Lexically disable autovivification.

When an undefined variable is dereferenced, it gets silently
upgraded to an array or hash reference (depending of the type of the
dereferencing). This behaviour is called autovivification and usually
does what you mean (e.g. when you store a value) but it's sometimes
unnatural or surprising because your variables gets populated behind
your back. This is especially true when several levels of dereferencing
are involved, in which case all levels are vivified up to the last,
or when it happens in intuitively read-only constructs like exists.

This pragma lets you disable autovivification for some constructs and
optionally throws a warning or an error when it would have happened.

  Description : Lexically warn about using the indirect object syntax.

When enabled (or disabled as some may prefer to say, since you actually turn it
on by calling no indirect), this pragma warns about indirect object syntax
constructs that may have slipped into your code. This syntax is now considered
harmful, since its parsing has many quirks and its use is error prone (when
swoosh isn't defined, swoosh $x actually compiles to $x-swoosh).

It currently does not warn for core functions (print, say, exec or system).
This may change in the future, or may be added as optional features that would
be enabled by passing options to unimport.

This module is not a source filter.

The international standard ISO 8601 Data elements and interchange

also defines textual formats for the representation of dates in these
calendars. This module provides functions to convert dates between
these three calendars and Chronological Julian Day Numbers, which is
a suitable format to do arithmetic with. It also supplies functions
that describe the shape of these calendars, to assist in calendrical
calculations. It also supplies functions to represent dates textually in
the ISO 8601 formats. ISO 8601 also covers time of day and time periods,
but this module does nothing relating to those parts of the standard;
this is only about labelling days.

Perl 5 has a lot of warts. There's a lot of individual modules and
techniques out there to fix those warts. perl5i aims to pull the best
of them together into one module so you can turn them on all at once.

This includes adding features, changing existing core functions and
changing defaults. It will likely not be 100% backwards compatible with
Perl 5, though it will be 99%, perl5i will try to have a lexical effect.

Please add to this imaginary world and help make it real,
either by telling me what Perl looks like in your imagination
(http://github.com/schwern/perl5i/issues) or make a fork (forking on
github is like a branch you control) and implement it yourself.

Bug#575987: ITP: libdate-jd-perl -- Conversion between flavours of Julian Date

  Description : Conversion between flavours of Julian Date

For date and time calculations it is convenient to represent dates by a
simple linear count of days, rather than in a particular calendar. This is
such a good idea that it has been invented several times. If there were
a single such linear count then it would be the obvious data interchange
format between calendar modules. With several versions, calendar modules
can use such sensible data formats and still have interoperability
problems. This module tackles that problem, by performing conversions
between different flavours of day count. These day count systems are
generically known as Julian Dates, after the most venerable of them.

Among Julian Date systems there are also some non-trivial differences
of concept. There are systems that count only complete days, and
those that count fractional days also. There are some that are fixed
to Universal Time (time on the prime meridian), and others that are
interpreted according to a timezone. Some consider the day to start at
noon and others at midnight, which is semantically significant for the
complete-day counts. The functions of this module appropriately handle
the semantics of all the non-trivial conversions.

The day count systems supported by this module are Julian Date, Reduced
Julian Date, Modified Julian Date, Dublin Julian Date, Truncated Julian
Date, Chronological Julian Date, Rata Die, and Lilian Date, each in both
integral and fractional forms.

  Description : Perl handling of System V and POSIX timezone strings

An instance of this class represents a timezone that was specified by means of
 a System V timezone string or the POSIX extended form of the same syntax.
These can express a plain offset from Universal Time, or a system of two
offsets (standard and daylight saving time) switching on a yearly cycle
according to certain types of rule.

This class implements the DateTime::TimeZone interface, so that its instances
can be used with DateTime objects.

  Description : Recursively merge two or more hashes, simply

Hash::Merge::Simple will recursively merge two or more hashes and return the
result as a new hash reference. The merge function will descend and merge
hashes that exist under the same node in both the left and right hash, but
doesn't attempt to combine arrays, objects, scalars, or anything else. The
rightmost hash also takes precedence, replacing whatever was in the left hash
if a conflict occurs.

On many computers, Perl's time functions will not work past the

uses. Time::y2038 provides replacements for those functions which will
work accurately +/1 142 million years.

  Description : Enable all of the features of Modern Perl with one command

Modern Perl programs use several modules to enable additional features
of Perl and of the CPAN. Instead of copying and pasting all of these
use lines, instead write only one:

use Modern::Perl;

For now, this only enables the strict and warnings pragmas, as well as
all of the features available in Perl 5.10. It also enables C3 method
resolution order; see perldoc mro for an explanation. In the future, it
will include additional CPAN modules which have proven useful and stable.

See http://www.modernperlbooks.com/mt/2009/01/toward-a-modernperl.html
for more information, and http://www.modernperlbooks.com/ for further
discussion of Modern Perl and its implications.

The autobox::dump pragma adds, via the autobox pragma, a method to normal
expression (such as scalars, arrays, hashes, math, literals, etc.) that
produces a human/perl readable representation of the value of that expression.
