This allows you to: * Manage your own files under debian/ such as debian/rules debian/control, debian/changelog and so on separately away from their original packages. * Create your own tuned packages with your own pre-defined DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS, CC in your debian/rules from their original packages without specifying any environment variables in each build-time. * Create your own tuned packages with patches to their original sources as well as to debian/* files, separating them completely away from their original source packages. * Make it possible to redistribute your modified debian package based on another debian source package which restricts source-code from being distributed in modified form _only_ by the distribution of patch files with the source code for the purpose of modifying the program at build time. Bug#457075: Salomé packaging
Hi Adam, Sorry for the delay, I have missed the -6 release but I have just built the -7 one which works fine. I have updated the documentation on: http://wiki.debian.org/BuildingSalome It seems that building Med dependencies by hand is no longer needed because libmed-2.3.6-2 is now available in Debian sid. I only had one problem during the installation step with the 'salome.desktop' file which did not exist but it may be an error on my side. I will see if I can reproduce it in the next build. First, the -dev dependency extends beyond libsalome-dev. For example, the GEOM module requires libTKOpenGl.so which is in libopencascade-visualization-dev so salome must depend on at least that package as well. There are likely others. Can some of you help me to figure out what is required? If we miss a couple before upload, that's probably okay, we'll just get even more bug reports for these than we otherwise would. :-) I can help on that part once the VISU module is working, I have just added a ticket on the Logilab's project: http://www.python-science.org/ticket/1841 Later we can hopefully modify Salomé's shared lib loading code so it detects the soname at build time and loads that file at runtime, as this is a bug. If anyone can figure out an easy way to do that now, great; otherwise we need to add a few -dev packages to the dependencies. I have added a ticket too: http://www.python-science.org/ticket/1822 but to my point of view such change should be difficult. Second, I've cut the number of lintian warnings by dozens by making the .py files non-executable. The one problem that results is during startup, which can be solved by the following patch: diff --git a/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py b/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py index d67d6b0..550a6c2 100755 --- a/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py +++ b/KERNEL_SRC_5.1.3/bin/runSalome.py @@ -191,7 +191,7 @@ class ContainerPYServer(Server): if sys.platform == win32: self.CMD=[os.environ[PYTHONBIN], '\'+os.environ[KERNEL_ROOT_DIR] + '/bin/salome/SALOME_ContainerPy.py'+'\','FactoryServerPy'] else: - self.CMD=['SALOME_ContainerPy.py','FactoryServerPy'] + self.CMD=['python','/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/salome/SALOME_ContainerPy.py','FactoryServerPy'] # --- My python is even worse than my French, so that's the best I can do, but I'm certain there's a better way. Can someone help my pathetic python, hopefully in a way that will be acceptable to upstream? I think that SALOME_ContainerPy.py should be considered as an executable script because its first line starts with: #! /usr/bin/env python As a consequence, it should live inside /usr/bin like others commands so no patch is required. The only reproach to upstream may be to keep the '.py' extension which is confusing because SALOME_ContainerPy is supposed to be a command. I have moved SALOME_ContainerPy.py to /usr/bin and made it executable and Salome was still working. I think that it should be possible to add this behavior to the Debian package during the installation step. What is your opinion on this point? Would you like me to work on a patch? I'd also like to adopt KinoSearch under the group if you don't mind. Though you seem to be doing a good job maintaining it, so I won't press you further if you'd like to keep it. I just think it'd be nicer to keep all of the KinoSearch versions in the same place, as it makes coordinating things easier. [Only Cc'd the Debian Perl List this time, as I guess debian-devel doesn't care] Sure, go ahead. Copied from the web, probably needs a little editing: OpticalRayTracer is a free (GPL) Linux (Xwindows GUI-based) utility that analyzes systems of lenses. It uses optical principles and a virtual optical bench to predict the behavior of many kinds of ordinary and exotic lens types. OpticalRayTracer includes an advanced, easy-to-use interface that allows the user to rearrange the optical configuration by simply dragging lenses around using the mouse. OpticalRayTracer fully analyzes lens optical properties, incuding refraction and dispersion. The dispersion display uses color-coded light beams, as shown above, to simplify interpretation of the results. +++ I don't really know when I get around to finish packaging it; with the current tarball, I have an autoconf/auto* issue that needs sorting out first. Inspired by jMock, EasyMock, and Hamcrest, and designed with C++'s specifics in mind, it can help you derive better designs of your system and write better tests. Google Mock: - provides a declarative syntax for defining mocks, - can easily define partial (hybrid) mocks, which are a cross of real and mock objects, - handles functions of arbitrary types and overloaded functions, - comes with a rich set of matchers for validating function arguments, - uses an intuitive syntax for controlling the behavior of a mock, - does automatic verification of expectations (no record-and-replay needed), - allows arbitrary (partial) ordering constraints on function calls to be expressed, - lets a user extend it by defining new matchers and actions. - does not use exceptions, and - is easy to learn and use. Open Journal Systems (OJS) is a journal management and publishing system that has been developed by the Public Knowledge Project through its federally funded efforts to expand and improve access to research. OJS assists with every stage of the refereed publishing process, from submissions through to online publication and indexing. Through its management systems, its finely grained indexing of research, and the context it provides for research, OJS seeks to improve both the scholarly and public quality of referred research. OJS is open source software made freely available to journals worldwide for the purpose of making open access publishing a viable option for more journals, as open access can increase a journal's readership as well as its contribution to the public good on a global scale. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: ojs Source-Version: 2.2.4+dfsg-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of ojs, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: ojs_2.2.4+dfsg-1.debian.tar.gz to main/o/ojs/ojs_2.2.4+dfsg-1.debian.tar.gz ojs_2.2.4+dfsg-1.dsc to main/o/ojs/ojs_2.2.4+dfsg-1.dsc ojs_2.2.4+dfsg-1_all.deb to main/o/ojs/ojs_2.2.4+dfsg-1_all.deb ojs_2.2.4+dfsg.orig.tar.gz to main/o/ojs/ojs_2.2.4+dfsg.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#457075: Salomé packaging
Hi André, On Wed, 2010-05-05 at 09:40 +0200, Andre Espaze wrote: Hi Adam, Sorry for the delay, I have missed the -6 release but I have just built the -7 one which works fine. No problem. -6 had a dumb mistake which caused it to be rejected by Debian right away, so you didn't miss anything. I have updated the documentation on: http://wiki.debian.org/BuildingSalome It seems that building Med dependencies by hand is no longer needed because libmed-2.3.6-2 is now available in Debian sid. Right, the Debian-GIS team finally updated HDF5, so I was able to upload the new and working MED package. I only had one problem during the installation step with the 'salome.desktop' file which did not exist but it may be an error on my side. I will see if I can reproduce it in the next build. That file should be in the debian directory. debian/rules copies it into debian/tmp, then it's in salome.files so it should get into the salome package (dpkg -c tells which files are in a .deb). I agree, the problem seems to also be in OpenCASCADE (bug 550445), so it may be that Salomé uses OCC's loading mechanism. Yeah, this one will take a bit of time to track down. Sure, though I think it might make sense to remove the .py from the ending then, like avs2med and a couple of others. In Debian, executable scripts are not supposed to have extensions, not even .sh . Make sure your patch eventually puts it into the /usr/bin directory of the python2.5-salome package, or else it will generate another lintian error (python script without python dependency). Oh dear, that's too bad... But yes, it is a gigantic package. If I make a version without the -doc binary, that takes it from 859 to 235 MiB including .orig.tar.gz. (The -doc binary has a huge amount of very large generated documentation...) Does that reduce it's size enough to consider re-uploading? I can appreciate the burden of checking a package of this size. But It's taken a good-sized team a few months of concerted effort to get this far (development actually started about two and a half years ago), and we'd like to be able to use the BTS to track the various issues with the package, among other concerns. [Also, there's a summary of all of the copyright statements in every file of every module in debian/copyright-audit/ to make your life easier.] A better solution is currently being worked on, but might need some time. Once we have a) a new ftp-master server or b) archieved the etch release, you can reupload your package. Makes sense. But if the above isn't sufficient reduction in the package size, how will we know when this happens? Bug#579593: Plans for a sssd package in Debian?
tags 579593 + pending thanks [Petter Reinholdtsen] Hi. You get this as one of the uploaders of the sssd package in Ubuntu. I only heard back from Scott Kitterman, who claimed to have no special interest in the sssd package. Not quite sure what to make out of that, but hope there is some interest in cooperation with the package maintainence. I've cleaned up the ubuntu package a bit, fixed some issues detected by lintian and added pam-auth-update support, and uploaded it to Debian. I've sendt a patch upstream asking for a change to avoid having to patch the makefiles to install properly, and hope it will be included in the next upstream release. I notice a new version (1.1.1) is available, but the source structure had changed quite a bit, and I decided to upload 1.0.5 first to Debian and look into the build issues with the new version later. Only about the sheer size and the fact that ftpmaster does have some space issues. But It's taken a good-sized team a few months of concerted effort to get this far (development actually started about two and a half years ago), and we'd like to be able to use the BTS to track the various issues with the package, among other concerns. Oh sure, of course. A better solution is currently being worked on, but might need some time. Once we have a) a new ftp-master server or b) archieved the etch release, you can reupload your package. Makes sense. But if the above isn't sufficient reduction in the package size, how will we know when this happens? The archive of the etch release will get a message to d-d-a or so. :) Also, we are getting new hardware for ftpmaster, which has much more diskspace too, and which will finally allow us to setup data.debian.org. Your package, at least the -doc part, seems a good target for that. To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
