Bug#597441: ITP: amiri -- Naskh style, typographically oriented font, mainly for printing and running text.
Salam, Quoting أحمد المحمودي (aelmahmo...@sabily.org): Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: أحمد المحمودي aelmahmo...@sabily.org * Package name: amiri Version : 0.001 Upstream Author : Khaled Hosny khaledho...@eglug.org * URL : http://naskh.sf.net * License : OFL Programming Lang: N/A Description : Naskh style, typographically oriented font, mainly for printing and running text Could you reconsider the naming of the font? The current practice for packages providinf TrueType and/or OpenType fonts is naming them ttf-foundry-font. The ttf- prefix is very widely used while the foundry-font is not as widely used Some people proposed we use a font- or fonts- prefix (used in Fedora) to avoid naming ttf-foo something that provides OTF fonts. We could probably start with your package as it is obviously intended for wheezy and not squeeze. That would lead to something like font-hosny-amiri by using the upstream author's first name as foundry name. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#595963: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#595963: RFP: yanone-kaffeesatz -- TTF and OTF font in four weights
Quoting Axel Beckert (a...@debian.org): fonts-$foundry-$fontfamilyname sounds way more sane to me for source packages, yes. I just wrote in an ITP that we could probably go this way for wheezy. So if that font is not intended for squeeze, I'd say let's choose 'fonts-yanone-kaffeesatz' for the source package. How about using ttf-yanone-kaffeesatz and otf-yanone-kaffeesatz if two binary packages do provide the separated TTF and OTF versions? signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#547665: RFP: valide -- IDE for Vala
On Tue, 18 May 2010 18:32:52 +0200, Nicolas Joseph wrote: Hello, Hello Nicolas, I'm the author of this program. I am a Debian user and I have taken great care to create the package. If you're still interested, I'm available to review and sponsor it. It's available on debian mentors: http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=valide Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Here are my comments on the packaging: - before seeing this bug, I downloaded the tarball from your website. Why is the one on the website 24M, and the one on mentors just 1.4M ? - debian/changelog: this package has never been released to Debian, so you should only have one stanza, with Initial upload (Closes: #547665) - debian/control: - Build-Depends: you're missing at least valac as dependency here. I haven't checked further. - Standards-Version: latest is 3.9.1, please update it - Vcs-* missing: if you're maintaining the debian/ directory under some VCS, please point to it using Vcs-Browser and Vcs-Svn (or Vcs-Git, Vcs-Bzr, [..]). - hardcoding runtime dependencies on shared libraries is bad. It doesn't let binNMUs. If ${shlibs:Depends} doesn't work, something's wrong, and should be fixed. - you're duplicating Section: devel in valide-common and valide-dev - long descriptions are a bit too short :) - valide-dev should depend on valide (= ${binary:Version}) - debian/copyright: you could choose to follow DEP-5, but that's entirely optional. - why do you have debian/patches/debian-changes-0.7.0-1? Please merge those changes upstream, and rebuild the package with a fixed orig.tar.gz - debian/valide*.install: you can just drop debian/tmp/ from there :) - debian/valide.lintian: should be named valide.lintian-overrides. After that, you can drop valide.dirs, and the hack in debian/rules to install this file. - debian/rules: why are you using that CMD=$(..) thing? You're using it only once, and I don't see any benefit in it :) Please let me know whether you still intend to maintain it, and eventually fix the above comments. Thank you, David -- . ''`. Bug#597202: ITP: kstars-data-extra-tycho2 -- Contains the Tycho2 star catalog for centralized install, avoiding per-user install
On Sun, Sep 19, 2010 at 05:24:38PM +0100, Noel David Torres Taño wrote: * License : GPL This license is *not* the license the Tycho2 catalog was distributed with 10 years ago (8th february 2000). It might be worth clarifying with Erik Høg, original author of the catalog from the Niels Bohr Institute under which license this catalog can be distribued. Please note that other catalogues distributed by international organisations (ESA, NASA) have had a 'please do not modify these files' strings attached and have thus fallen into non-free (see gliese and yale catalogues). That is the license of the file I'm distributing. Should I contact Simha and Harris to see if THEY are violating the Tycho-2 catalog license? Please confirm with them that this *derived* data from the Tycho-2 can be indeed GPL-licensed. I would be very surprised if this is the case (I've had contact with some producers of star data catalogues in the past) but if it is fine. We packaged the Gliese and Yale packages as they are right now (in non-free and including the original sources with data files for starplot generated on install) as the upstream authors would not allow for modification of the star data catalogs. Throughout the years maintainers (both Debian and upstream's) have learnt of this the hard way, i.e. bugs in celestia: #174456, stellarium #198495, kstars #198499, xephem 225002 and stars: #246047, gstar #246048, openuniverse #246049. Some upstream developers (kstars') were very helpful in the past. When we took this issue up with them, the kstars team (Jason Harris mainly) digged up contacts with the catalog providers. This is what someone from CDS replied (when asked about Hipparcos and SAO catalogs): : Catalogues available at CDS contain scientific data distributed : for free, for a scientific usage. Since the main author of the Tycho2 catalog is Erik Høg I suggest asking the kstars developed if they have contacted him regarding the catalog and, if not, get clarification from him Actually, I believe that the fact that the catalog is not provided *within* the kstars program is certainly because it is not considered free. I believe instead that the fact that the catalog is not provided *within* the (...) own set of predefined stars up to the visual magnitude. Datafile authors (which are, by the way, two of the same authors of the program itself) say the datafile is GPL, so I can not think they decided not to include it because of it being not free. Please, take this up with upstream for clarification because in the past other upstreams have made the same assumptions which turned out not to be valid with other catalogs (i.e. yale). It would be best to seek clarification from the author. I don't see GPL anywhere at http://www.astro.ku.dk/~erik/Tycho-2/, in fact, I don't see any reference to licenses at all so I'm quite sure the original author do not stamped a GPL license to the data. Since upstream developers (kstars) where very open to discussion and where really helpful when we brought to them this issue 7 years ago, they probably have researched this issue, but a statement from the original author of the catalog (to be used in debian/copyright) would be good to have. The goal of zblast is to shoot and destroy all enemy ships. When you get it before your ship is destroyed, you can go to a next stage (called wave in this game). . Unlike most of other shoot 'em up games, in zblast your ship can bear a fair amount of damage (at least 30 hits and you can gain extra energy during the game). It does not mean that you are safe -- you just need it. In fact, enemy shots are fast and the sky is FILLED with them. If you enjoy surviving a rain of laser beams by dodging them, you may need another package. . The most interesting part of zblast is its music. With the abstract graphics (simple line-only diagrams), zblast can provide a taste of cyber-space. . Two versions of the zblast program are available, one uses svgalib and one uses X11. This package contains X11 version of the game. The command is named xzb rather than xblast because there is already another xblast (a bomberman clone). . upstream webpage: http://www.svgalib.org/rus/zblast/ Tag: game::arcade, interface::x11, junior::arcade, role::program,

My git repo will remain available for a while, and I can pull a backup later if someone needs it. The package description is: This package is an implementation of the language INTERCAL, legendary for its perversity and horribleness, designed by Don Woods and James Lyon, who have since spent more than twenty years trying to live it down. This version adds COME FROM for extra flavor, and supports multithreading. Comes with language manual and examples including possibly the entire extant body of INTERCAL code. . This INTERCAL implementation works by compiling INTERCAL to C (thus de-obfuscating it), and then uses a C compiler to produce binaries (which are themselves possibly easier to read than the original intercal source code). -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Version: 28:0.28-4+rm intercal has been removed from Debian unstable: http://bugs.debian.org/597008 Closing its bugs with a Version higher than the last unstable upload. Bug#597053: [pkg-cli-apps-team] Bug#597053: ITP: sparkleshare -- git-backed file sharing and collaboration tool
Hiya, On Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 11:45:32AM +0200, martin f krafft wrote: also sprach Iain Lane la...@ubuntu.com [2010.09.16.1003 +0200]: * Package name: sparkleshare Version : 0.2~beta1 […] SparkleShare is a syncing and collaboration tool that is designed to get out of your way, to make sharing documents and collaboration easier, and to make peers aware of what you are doing. Is it a GUI? Is it a command-line tool? I find the description rather generic, it does not give me a real idea of what I am dealing with. It's a service which runs in your user session and tracks changes to files in the watched directory as git commits. This means that, in addition to using your desktop environment to interact with the files, you can also use git to examine the history. Syncing to remote git repositories is also transparent. The tool is designed for collaboration, rather than backup as in e.g. Dropbox. Sorry if the description was unclear, and thanks for your feedback. I'll improve it. Are there .debs for testing already? No. I might provide some unofficial preview packages soon, but the software is still rather experimental. In the meantime, it's pretty easy to build (standard autotools), once you have all of the build dependencies installed. There aren't many, and they are all in Debian already. I'll keep this bug updated with information when the situation develops. Cheers, Iain signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#547665: RFP: valide -- IDE for Vala
Le 20/09/2010 09:15, David Paleino a écrit : If you're still interested, I'm available to review and sponsor it. Thank you! - you're duplicating Section: devel in valide-common and valide-dev - long descriptions are a bit too short :) I find inspiration and I try to improve this. - valide-dev should depend on valide (= ${binary:Version}) - debian/copyright: you could choose to follow DEP-5, but that's entirely optional. I renamed the lintian file, but I don't know how to hack debian/rules. - debian/rules: why are you using that CMD=$(..) thing? You're using it only once, and I don't see any benefit in it :) Please let me know whether you still intend to maintain it, and eventually fix the above comments. Except my comments, I fixed the other problems in the upsteam repository: https://code.launchpad.net/~valide/valide/trunk signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
