Bug#599498: ITH: I'm willing to help

 Hi Julien,

Hi Thomas,

I'm currently installing dspam on my private server so I would really like it
to remain present in squeeze. I have strong skills in C and know git very
well. Therefore, I would be very happy to help you on dspam so consider this
mail as an ITH (Intent To Help). I'll take a look at the RC bug tomorrow
morning in the hope of fixing it quickly so we can ask for a freeze exception
after the usual block delay has passed.

As far as I remember, almost all 'major' bugs are already fixed in the
git version.

There is really litlle hope DSPAM can still be accepted in Squeeze… We are
in deep freeze.

Is there a possibility I can co-maintain this package with you after that?

You are more than welcome!

Do you already have an account on alioth so that I can add you to the
pkg-dspam team?

Cheers
Julien

Bug#589254: RFS - mapcatcher

2010-10-09 Thread D Haley
Hello,

I came across your g/mapcatcher package today, I had not heard of the project
before. This looks like an excellent lightweight alternative to marble - I have
already installed it on my machine (marble wont fit, it has way too many deps).

I can't sponsor you, however here are some comments on your debian-mentors
package:

* Program should use either mapcatcher or gmapcatcher consistently. If upstream
wish to rename their project, use mapcatcher, if not, use gmapcatcher. Until I
read your mailing list thread, I thought the G was for GTK. This is confusing
as some things (eg the program) are labelled mapcatcher, and some things
/usr/share/pyshared/* are labelled GMapCatcher. Consistency is key, with or
without G. :)

* Although marked as GPL2 or any later, the actual python programs do not have
the pre-amble in the source files, as required by the licence. The upstream
project website simply says GPL2, not GPL2 or later. This needs to be clarified
by the upstream authors. THis is true of both the mapcatcher and mapdownloader
python scripts, as well as for /usr/share/pyshared/gmapcatcher/*

* Project seems to include its own version of gps.py. Is there any reason that
the python-gps package is not being used? Importing sources from upstream
projects is not cool, as it means that updates are not sent to users in a
timely fashion, and that duplication can be a problem. Secondly, this is a
problem as it is unclear which files in the pyshared/gmapcatcher/ directory
were actually written by the project, and thus are correctly licenced

* During the package build from the DSC, I get the following message:
WARNING: Use of XS-Python-Version and XB-Python-Version fields in
debian/control is deprecated with pysupport method; use debian/pyversions if
you need to specify specific versions.
pyversions: missing XS-Python-Version in control file, fall back to
debian/pyversions

*The installed /usr/share/pyshared/GMapCatcher-0.7.2.2.egg-info contains
UNKNOWN entries. Please fill in the upstream author's details

*According to debian/copyright, there are two real authors, and then a
pseudo-author mapcatcher team. The upstream project states that the authors
are : pi3or...@gmail.com, helders...@gmail.com, maxim.ra...@gmail.com, and
standa31...@gmail.com. This should be reflected in debian/copyright

Thanks,

D. Haley

Bug#598354: ITP: gstreamer0.10-v4l2loopback -- GStreamer sink to write into v4l2 loopback devices

Well, instead of writing something new wouldn't it be better to fix
v4lsink instead? :) I'd be happy to review patches and commit them
 upstream :P

it turned out that i could fix the v4l2loopback kernel module so that it
is now supported by v4l2sink.

since this obsoletes the v4l2loopback gst-element, i guess one could
close this ITP.
should i do that?

But IIRC v4l2sink only expects the v4l2 device to list all supported
formats and then can use any of these formats. Also IIRC it was written
by someone who wanted to use it for a loopback device so it actually
 worked at some point ;)

this doesn't really mean anything.
the v4l2sink assumes certain capabilities of the sink device which were
obviously present on the device the upstream author was using, though
there could be (and are) other perfectly legal devices that don't have
this capabilities.

Description : GStreamer sink to write into v4l2 loopback devices

provides a GStreamer sink element v4l2loopback that takes a video-stream and
writes it into a V4L2 loopback device.
ordinary v4l2-enabled applications can then access the video as if it was coming
from an ordinary capture device.
among other things, this allows to add stream-receiving and support for non-v4l2
capture devices capabilities to V4L2-only applications.

In order to use this package, one needs the v4l2loopback kernel module.

I have less time for packaging work these days, especially for packages
I have no personal or work connection to. Therefore, I am orphaning
libgc.

Even though I have some time available at Debconf, I'm orphaning this
now so that the adopter can use the Debconf time instead going forward.

I think the first task an adopter would need to do is update the package
in experimental (to fix #542285) and then upload it to sid. I believe
that most of the packages build fine against the 7.X series.

I request assistance with maintaining the blender package.

Blender is nice, but might benefit from more hands than only mine. If
you want to help, please have a look at this checklist which should help
you see if you fit the profile (if you don't, don't be afraid to reply
anyway; I'm just trying to help you decide whether you want to try and
dig into it):

 - You're a Blender user; helps testing. :)

 - You're not afraid of dealing with a “big” package (it takes quite
some time to compile); IOW: you know about ccache.

 - You're not afraid of maintaining some patches forever (dropping third
party libraries, fixing security bugs, supporting more platforms,
   etc.).

 - You talk cmake; There are several options when it comes to building
Blender; and scons is clearly not a sustainable solution. I tried.

 - You talk svn (or git-svn: http://caca.zoy.org/wiki/git-svn); handy to
check whether there are some patches available upstream.

Again, that's just an informal list of stuff you might come across while
working on the blender package, not a list of prerequisites. :)

Short-term TODO:
 - Enable the “security patch” again.
 - Maybe double-check localization.
 - Check building within unstable.
 - Finally move 2.50 alpha 0 to unstable.

The package description is:
Blender is an integrated 3d suite for modelling, animation, rendering,
post-production, interactive creation and playback (games). Blender has its
own particular user interface, which is implemented entirely in OpenGL and
 designed with speed in mind. Python bindings are available for scripting;
import/export features for popular file formats like 3D Studio and Wavefront
Obj are implemented as scripts by the community. Stills, animations, models
for games or other third party engines and interactive content in the form of
a standalone binary and/or a web plug-in are common products of Blender use.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hello,

I'd like to request an adopter for eclipse-cdt, since I don't have enough
time to dedicate this package.

Current package status:
 - it needs to be updated to the lastest eclipse release available in Debian
(#441313 and possibly root cause for RC bug #542977)
 - it needs to be ported to sparc (#478900) . Work for this was started in the
SVN repo, but it was not completed.

I think relying on the cross-distro eclipse packaging effort(1) is a good
idea.

Here's the package description:
The eclipse-cdt package contains Eclipse features and plugins that are useful
for C and C++ development.

  The current release function includes:
  * C/C++ Editor (basic functionality, syntax highlighting, code completion,
etc.)
  * C/C++ Debugger (APIs Default implementation, using GDB)
  * C/C++ Launcher (APIs Default implementation, launches and external
application)
  * Parser
  * Search Engine
  * Content Assist Provider
  * Makefile generator

Regards,

Thomas
