---BeginMessage---
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the phpwiki package. In particular, I
need assistance dealing with a number of bugs related to code from other
packages that is embedded within the PHPwiki codebase. There is also at least
one further instance of this reported by lintian which is not yet in the BTS.

PHPwiki wasn't really designed to have these dependencies fulfilled outside of
the PHPwiki source and the upstream has not made a release for quite some time
(although there are sporadic commits to the upstream svn repository).

Some of the code included in PHPwiki is older than the currently packaged
versions and a quick diff shows large changes between the packaged versions and
PHPwiki's embedded copy.

Anyone interested in working on this will likely need to be willing to modify
PHPwiki to support loading the dependencies from outside of the PHPwiki source
tree, fix any breakage/changes required by the newer versions and then submit
the patches upstream. I don't have the time to undertake this kind of work at
the moment.

Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers

Bug#548817: Orphaning guessnet

2010-11-02 Thread Enrico Zini
Hello,

the RFA bug has been open for one year. There has been no adoption, and
I'm guilty of not even having managed to get back to the two I'm new,
where do I start? offers. Jonathan and Brad, I'm very sorry :(

It's time to orphan it. I would also like to close the Alioth project
and mailing lists, which was a completely exagerated setup for guessnet.

I've moved the code to collab-maint, converting from svn to git, and
updated debian/control to point to
http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/guessnet.git

Maybe this is not an end for guessnet, but a new beginning. Time will
tell.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#602197: O: launchtool

2010-11-02 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hello,

I'm not doing any work on launchtool, and I'm not using it, so it's time
to orphan it. I had a plan to dismember launchtool and merge the various
parts in start-stop-daemon and in a simpler non-daemon, supervisor tool.
However, I also don't see myself having time or need to do that anytime
soon.

For reference, I post here the plan I had for launchtool to transcend
to something better.

Most of the work should be rather straightforward, as it's based on the
existing code. Most of the code in common/ is now maintained in the
wibble library (libwibble-dev) and can just be dropped. It can all be a
fun programming excercise for people who have more time than I do.

 * The plan for transcendency

Launchtool is a bit like start-stop-daemon. The differences are:

 - launchtool is more featureful;
 - start-stop-daemon is more tested.

Ideally, features should be ported from launchtool to start-stop-daemon.
The best way to do so, is to remove daemonisation and pidfile features from
launchtool and just turn it into an application wrapper that handles restart
policies and logging.

Features that are already in start-stop-daemon:

   -k, --kill[=signal]
   --check
   -d, --daemon, “daemon”
   -n, --no-daemon
   --pidfile, “pidfile”
   --no-pidfile
   --piddir=dir, “piddir”
   --chroot=dir, “root dir”
   --chdir=dir, “start dir”
   -u, --user=user, “user”
   -g, --group=group, “group”
   --umask=mask, “umask”

Features that can be implemented in a simple wrapper/supervisor command:

   -L, --infinite-runs, “infinite runs”
   --no-infinite-runs
   --wait-times=t1,t2,... , “wait times”
   --good-running-time=seconds, “good running time”
   --forwarded-signals=sig1,sig2,... , “forwarded signals”
   --blocked-signals=sig1,sig2,... , “blocked signals”
   --limit-cpu=seconds, “cpu limit”
   --limit-file-size=1024b-blocks, “file size limit”
   --limit-data-memory=1024b-blocks, “data memory limit”
   --limit-process-count=count, “process count limit”
   --limit-open-files=count, “open files limit”
   --limit-core-size=1024b-blocks, “core size limit”
   --restrict-environment, “restrict environment”
   --no-restrict-environment
   --allowed-env-vars=var1,var2,... , “allowed env vars”
   --log-launchtool-output=target, “launchtool output”
   --log-launchtool-errors=target, “launchtool errors”
   --log-child-output=target, “command output”
   --log-child-errors=target, “command errors”
   --silent-restart-status=value, “silent restart status”
   --silent-restart-time=seconds, “silent restart time”
   --stats, “stats”
   --no-stats

Other TODO items:

 - Port to wibble.
 - Improve commandline help: give a summary of the kind of options and
implement --help-something subpages to avoid cluttering the screen
presenting them all in a single run
 - Improve environment management; see if there's a proper way to create a
   clean environment
 - Add an option to directly execute command and arguments instead of passing
   them to sh -c

Ciao,

Enrico

Indeed, since we'll be targeting a debian release that is some 2 years
away from the present, it is quite likely that celt will in fact be
bitstream frozen by then too (or replaced by a derivative that is).

Adjusting to the newer API should be trivial, the main catch is the
bitstream compatibility. I don't think we should be looking at
packaging celt 0.5 retroactively though, we should be looking ahead.

Cheers,

Bug#597202: ITP: kstars-data-extra-tycho2 -- Contains the Tycho2 star catalog for centralized install, avoiding per-user install

2010-11-02 Thread Noel David Torres Taño
Hello all:

Finally I've found the needed info. Mr. Akarsh Simha from KStars have said me:

 Hi Noel, and others,

I got an almost immediate reply from Jason regarding this stuff. While
the site that I linked to is down, the WayBack Machine shows that we
were indeed compliant with the policy (as advertised when we used that
 data):

 http://web.archive.org/web/20070303235508/http://adc.astro.umd.edu/adc/ques
 tions_feedback.html#policies

 The site reads:

All ADC data are public domain unless otherwise stated in the
ReadMe file. The data are for scientific use only and have no
   commercial value.

Use of ADC data in reports, publications or formal presentations of
any kind should be acknowledged by reference to the original authors
and publication and to the ADC. The acknowledgement might read:

This paper uses data provided by Joe/Jane Astronomer in AJ, 110,
1992 as distributed by the Astronomical Data Center at NASA Goddard
   Space Flight Center.

Maybe we should, although we are not technically any sort of paper
publication, make it clear somewhere in the README, that the Tycho-2
 catalog is attributed to them.

Noel, is this sufficient? Any advice that you'd have?

 Regards
 Akarsh

I've read the ReadMe file of the Tycho2 catalog at http://cdsarc.u-
strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?cat=I%2F259target=readme and it says nothing about
any license, so I think that the previous statement is applicable, and thus
the derived data (the cooked catalog file for KStars) is applicable.

Is this enough for the sponsoring process to continue?

Thanks

Noel

After looking into the source more intensely I found out that it is
quite hard to maintain as a clean deb package.
Since I lack the necessary time as well as the necessary java knowledge
for refactoring the whole source tarball I'm giving this ITP away and
hence retitling it as RFP.

Upstream is quite cooperative but not very familiar with Linux systems.

I would like someone to pick up this task and am willing to help with
reviewing and sponsoring the package upload. I already sponsored all the
freehep uploads structorizer depends on.

2010-11-02 Thread Scott Gilliland
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

kvpm is a KDE version 4 front end for Linux LVM and Gnu parted. It
also handles creating and mounting file systems. I've found it quite
useful and supports a wide range of common LVM / parted / filesystem
operations.

It's GPLv3 and uses cmake as a build system.

It has a SourceForge page located at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kvpm/

Ubuntu already has a package for this:

On Tue, 02 Nov 2010 22:47:02 +0100, Marc Haber wrote:

Due to time costraints of upstream authors, development somewhat stalled in
the last months.

However, I've recently been accepted in the upstream team, I hope I can give
some help there (starting from merging the patches shipped in the Debian
package). And I know Adam Blackburn was preparing a bugfix release versioned
1.7.1 (I saw a beta2 tarball of it, so I suppose it's coming out soonish).

Iker, I see many people already reviewed your package. With my
wicd-maintainer-hat on, I ask you to add a Provides: wicd-client to your
binary package.
Also, if it only depends on Qt libs, it would be better IMVHO if you (or
upstream) named it wicd-qt, to stay consistent with other clients (wicd-gtk
and wicd-curses). Otherwise, wicd-kde would be fine -- but it's just a matter
of consistency, you can call it whatever you like.

Thank you,
David

Excuse me, i am not sure if i underestand well, Provides: wicd-client
where? in debian-mentors description?

yeah, i also thougth about that. I just give that name because it was the
original author's given name. But he is very happie with my intention to
package it for debian and i know for sure that he doesn't care how i name
it. So wicd-qt would be grate.
But.. are you talking only about the package name or also the binary name?

I'll send an email to him just to be sure, maybe he also wants to change it
in upstream if i finally find a sponsor.

 Thank you,

Bug#599134: Yes I have noticed pv

2010-11-02 Thread Clint Byrum
pv is indeed similar, and has many features pipemeter does not.

Pipemeter does have higher performance in every instance I've tried, and
uses slightly less RAM. They're both doing mostly the same thing, but in
somewhat different ways. Pipemeter was originally written to provide
very little functionality, with very little interference.
