Bug#609038: ITP: biomaj -- a biological databank update and processing tool

Hi,
I would be glad to maintain it for Debian Med too.
I use this software internally at work so I can easilly test it and
maintain it for quite a long time.

I gonna update the ITP bug with additional info

Thanks

Hi Oliver,

this package seems to be quite interesting for Debian Med.
Would you consider maintaining it in the Debian Med packaging

In any case: Could you please provide the whole template for ITP

proper description) missing.

Kind regards and thanks for working on this package

 Andreas.

So we should package the scannedonly daemon and utils all is fine.

Ok but it will help the description to add more detail.

BTW and OT this behavior is racy, could be better to add an xattr with
the last scanning time to the file and compare it ?

 Hi Alessandro,

I have been working on packaging this myself, but I have not made
significant progress (hence the lack of an ITP). I'll gladly leave
the packaging work to you, I can provide you with the very little I do
have if you want. Just a request for the package, though: there is
now experimental support for shared libraries in the newer beta
versions of Discount that you can enable by the --shared option to
'configure.sh'. Please could you configure discount with this flag,
and install the library, when you package it? I think it would make
the package much more useful. Hopefully the support will be in a
non-beta version by the time the package comes out.

Feel free to mail me if you have any questions.

I was packaging the version 2.0.3 to avoid some problems by eventual
unstable beta features, building a shared library with a little patch by me
to the Makefile.in, but I think I can wait for the 2.0.4 to be out or also
backport that particular patch to 2.0.3.

Anyway the work on the package is almost done, I was waiting to search for
a sponsor in order to give higher priority to some other packages I'm
working on. If you want to grab the current version of the package it is on
mentors.debian.net [0] (note that probably it will not be the final version
of the package).

Cheers

http://olivier.sessink.nl/scannedonly/faq.html says:
Extended filesystem attributes could have been an option. They take as
much space as the 0 byte .scanned: files, and a lookup is quick and has
little overhead. However, lots of filesystems do not support extended

Ok I understand but it is insecure at least create a random secret
extension. And filter this extension. A malicious user could try to
race with the daemon, creating a .scanned file and an infected file.
sometime it will succeed and the file will be declared sane whereas it
is not sane.

It is really bad for a security tool to create a false sense of security...

And this behavior could be enforced like this:
fd = open(somefille...)
errno = 0;
s = flistxattr(fd,...)
if(errno == ENOTSUP  notstrictsaned)
   fallbacktosandefile(fd);

with fallbacktosanedfile(fd)
check the availlibilty of a .sanedX file where is a secret on
the server

 Thanks for the encouragements, everyone!

Looks like there is an Ubuntu PPA for bitcoin, version 0.3.19 is up now
with builds for maverick and lucid:

https://launchpad.net/~stretch/+archive/bitcoin

One thing I've noted is that upstream is moving quite fast, bitcoin is
in beta and sometimes there are frequent releases. So, it might require
relatively quick turn over in packaging.

Do you have a repository somewhere with any work done thus far? I've
tried out the cli for a while and it seems like a worthwhile package to
make without the gui bits.

Note that gnote is the last thing in the archive using dbus-c++
(not to be confused with libdbus, dbus-cpp or dbus-cxx), which is somewhat
active upstream, but has never made a release, and is orphaned in Debian.

(Its upstream location has also changed since the last snapshot in Debian.)

If you want to adopt gnote, please either try to port gnote to a different
D-Bus implementation (GDBus from GLib 2.26+ is probably the way forward),
disable D-Bus support, or adopt dbus-c++ (but note that according to
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=618330 it seems likely to be
rather broken).

I'll work on this tomorrow, I'm sorry, my PC was broked and I didn't
have time at all.

Mr. Filoni, are you still interested in adopting Gnote in Debian, as per
your ITA bug report? I'm interested in doing a QA upload to update Gnote to
the latest upstream version, and in addition, if you no longer intend to
adopt this package, I would be willing to adopt and maintain it myself.
 Thanks!

Bug#594368: Bug #594368

2011-01-06 Thread Vincent Cheng
Just a follow-up...I've found the upstream source for dbus-c++ (turns out I
missed its git archive), and I've successfully packaged it. Note that it's
NOT lintian clean at the moment. I have no idea about manpages because I
don't know what the binaries in dbus-c++-dev do, and the previous maintainer
didn't bother including man pages either, so I'm stuck.

https://github.com/Vincent-C/dbus-cplusplus

Lintian output is in the README attached to that github repo. It's packaged
with a QA upload in mind.

Mr. Filoni, you would also have to adopt dbus-c++ and dbus-c++-dev if you
still want to adopt Gnote. If you would still like to do so, please feel
free to use my work; otherwise, I would just be as willing to adopt both
gnote and these dbus packages. :)

Bug#502305: Temporary packages for ulogd2 : Build dependency wrong

2011-01-06 Thread Jim Barber

Hi.

I just tried to build your packages on a Debian unstable (sid) server
for the i386 architecture.

I used the following technique...

- Downloaded the following files from:
  https://www.wzdftpd.net/downloads/ulogd2-deb/

ulogd_2.0.0~beta4-1.debian.tar.gz
ulogd_2.0.0~beta4-1.dsc
ulogd_2.0.0~beta4.orig.tar.bz2

- Unpacked the sources and moved into the unpacked directory:

dpkg-source -x ulogd_2.0.0~beta4-1.dsc
cd ulogd-2.0.0~beta4

- Made sure I had the build dependencies installed:

dpkg-checkbuilddeps

It revealed I had to install the following packages:

autotools-dev
libdbi0-dev
libmysqlclient15-dev | libmysqlclient-dev
libnetfilter-conntrack-dev
libnetfilter-log-dev
libpcap-dev
libpq-dev
libsqlite-dev

I satisfied the libsqlite-dev dependency by installing libsqlite0-dev.

The libmysqlclient15-dev package does not exist in sid.
  But libmysqlclient16-dev does instead.
I installed the libmysqlclient-dev package which pulls it in anyway.

- Built it using the following:

dpkg-buildpackage -b -tc -uc -us

The build failed because it needed the libsqlite3-dev package installed.
Note that the libsqlite3-dev package does not supply the libsqlite-dev
dependency as mentioned in the Build-Depends.

Further I noticed the package doesn't need libsqlite0-dev at all.

So I redid the steps above, but in the debian/control control file I
changed the libsqlite-dev build dependency to libsqlite3-dev.

I then uninstalled libsqlite0-dev from my system to prove it wasn't needed.

Now the build worked successfully.

So in summary, the changes to the Build-Depends line in the
debian/control file to correct the build are:

- Change sqlite-dev to sqlite3-dev

- Remove libmysqlclient15-dev OR change it to libmysqlclient16-dev

Regards,
