Bug#617214: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#617214: ITP: cantarell-fonts -- Humanist sans-serif font family
Hi Nicolas, Am 19.04.2011 09:09, schrieb Nicolas Spalinger: Although the bugs have some cosmetic elements thrown in as well there are deeper issues: I still feel that getting the authorship elements right is rather important. I guess I'm worried some upstreams may consider that once the package is in main these issues can conveniently be ignored and bugs left untouched... thanks for the clarification, you really made your point much more clear to me than in the past. You seem to have much more of a vision for the font than I have. For me it's just a tarball full of font files, so let's package it. ;) BTW, very nice article on Gnome Journal, very interesting to read. Bug#458812: ITP: aster -- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for engineering simulations
Hello list, I would like to help in packaging the Code Aster software[1] for Debian. Some work is already done, in the debian-science svn repository there is packaging for the code aster engine and other tools and libraries[2] This however has still some issues, in particular it doesn't build the mpi parallel version, but I've worked on this and I obtained a (more-or-less) working mpi package[3][4] I would like to know what should be done to make those packages enter into the distribution, and see if I can help in this task; it has to be note however that, at the moment, code aster uses some tools and libraries that don't have a free license, e.g. the metis-edf library. Another thing that should be discussed is the build system: CA has its own build system, but now there's also an effort (libaster[5]) to use waf instead. I haven't yet contacted the CA team to ask if they are planning to switch to waf or stick to their custom build system. If I'm gonna be the only one working on the packages, I'd rather stay on the CA's custom system - at least for now - because I know it, and also because I don't know waf at all; but if some other people will be helping, maybe using waf could be a better choice. So... what should be done for the packaging? Can it enter in Debian even if it uses non-free tools? Maybe in non-free? Or it's preferred to (try to) build a cut-down version, but 100% open source? Bye Andrea [1] http://www.code-aster.org/ [2] http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/debian-science/packages/code-aster/ [3] http://www.code-aster.org/wiki/doku.php?id=en:p02_install:debianpackages [4] http://www.code-aster.org/forum2/viewtopic.php?id=14953 [5] http://www.libaster.org/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#623453: ITP: xdmf -- eXtensible Data Model and Format
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Alastair McKinstry mckins...@debian.org * Package name: xdmf Version : 2.1 Upstream Author : Name somebody@ * URL : http://www.xdmf.org/ * License : BSD Programming Lang: C++, Python, Fortran Description : eXtensible Data Model and Format library The need for a standardized method to exchange scientific data between High Performance Computing codes and tools lead to the development of the eXtensible Data Model and Format (XDMF) . Uses for XDMF range from a standard format used by HPC codes to take advantage of widely used visualization programs like ParaView, to a mechanism for performing coupled calculations using multiple, previously stand alone codes. Data format refers to the raw data to be manipulated. Information like number type ( float, integer, etc.), precision, location, rank, and dimensions completely describe the any dataset regardless of its size. The description of the data is also separate from the values themselves. We refer to the description of the data as Light data and the values themselves as Heavy data. Light data is small and can be passed between modules easily. Heavy data may be potentially enormous; movement needs to be kept to a minimum. Due to the different nature of heavy and light data, they are stored using separate mechanisms. Light data is stored using XML, Heavy data is typically stored using HDF5. While we could have chosen to store the light data using HDF5 attributes using XML does not require every tool to have access to the compiled HDF5 libraries in order to perform simple operations. Data model refers to the intended use of the data. For example, a three dimensional array of floating point vales may be the X,Y,Z geometry for a grid or calculated vector values. Without a data model, it is impossible to tell the difference. Since the data model only describes the data, it is purely light data and thus stored using XML. It is targeted at scientific simulation data concentrating on scalars, vectors, and tensors defined on some type of computational grid. Structured and Unstructured grids are described via their topology and geometry. Calculated, time varying data values are described as attributes of the grid. The actual values for the grid geometry, connectivity, and attribute values are contained in the data format. This separation of data format and model allows HPC codes to efficiently produce and store vales in a convenient manner without being encumbered by our data model which may be different from their internal arrangement. XDMF uses XML to store Light data and to describe the data Model. HDF5 is used to store Heavy data. The data Format is stored redundantly in both XML and HDF5. This allows tools to parse XML to determine the resources that will be required to access the Heavy data. XDMF is used in the visualization tools Paraview (already in Debian) and VisIt (which I am packaging). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506933: RFH: piwik -- real time web analytics software program
Hi Fabrizio, I would like to try you piwik packaging. I just downloaded it from svn.debian.org. It also took me some time to find piwik-1.2.tar.gz from upstream. I think you should include http://builds.piwik.org/ in your watch file. latest.zip in the watch file would not work. Did you modify the source tar.gz for your build? The piwik-1.2.tar.gz unpacks into a piwik/ directory but your debian/install and patches/ files want to work directly from the source directory. What is the method you build it from svn ? You said: In the piwik source package there are 2 files released in swf format. If someone know how to compile these files and would be help me with the packaging, feel free to reply to this bug or contact me. Which files are you talking of? And why do you think you need to compile them? Bug#506933: RFH: piwik -- real time web analytics software program
Hi Martin, first of all, thanks for your interested in piwik. On Wed, 2011-04-20 at 17:52 +0200, Christoph Martin wrote: Hi Fabrizio, I would like to try you piwik packaging. I just downloaded it from svn.debian.org. It also took me some time to find piwik-1.2.tar.gz from upstream. I think you should include http://builds.piwik.org/ in your watch file. latest.zip in the watch file would not work. I'm sorry: I've updating the version on git[1] and not the svn one. At the moment, I just use git for commit on piwik so I can delete the svn project now. In latest version (1.3) there is a d/watch file. Did you modify the source tar.gz for your build? The piwik-1.2.tar.gz unpacks into a piwik/ directory but your debian/install and patches/ files want to work directly from the source directory. What is the method you build it from svn ? As I said before, forget svn and (if you want) use git. For build it, you can use debuild -us -uc -b (without binary) or if you prefer git-buildpackage You said: In the piwik source package there are 2 files released in swf format. If someone know how to compile these files and would be help me with the packaging, feel free to reply to this bug or contact me. Which files are you talking of? And why do you think you need to compile them? I'm talking about these files: - plugins/UserCountryMap/PiwikMap.swf - libs/open-flash-chart/open-flash-chart.swf - ./libs/swfobject/expressInstall.swf (not tried to compile yet) I need to compile them because the swf format (compiled format) can't stay in 'main' section. I tried to compile with 'mtasc' without succes. The developers of piwik told me: On Tue, 2011-04-19 at 18:20 -0400, Anthon Pang wrote: I've only tried compiling with mxmlc. Compiling with mtasc probably won't work -- IIRC it doesn't support ActionScript3 and its parser has some grammar and semantic differences, so isn't 100% source compatible. The source for PiwikMap.swf is in http://dev.piwik.org/svn/worldmap/trunk/mapRenderer - use either FlashDevelop or the included build.xml and flex-config.xml files to build; requires FlexSDK4 The source for our fork of Open Flash Chart 2 is in http://dev.piwik.org/svn/open-flash-chart/trunk - requires FlashDevelop IDE and (I believe) FlexSDK3 I sent an email to request a review for mentors about leave the package in the 'non-free' section until a solution is found Cheers, Fabrizio. It merely helps sysadmins integrate local installations in the Debian system to handle this proprietary software in a more coherent way. Moreover, this package can be used as a runtime dependency for packages that install Matlab code and, for example, need to compile MEX extensions. . One or more Matlab installations can be registered with Debian's alternatives system, and a helper utility to build MEX extensions is provided. All configuration is conveniently done via debconf. Moreover: Analogous to Octave a Makefile snippet is provided that configures the locations for architecture independent M-files, binary MEX-extensions, and there corresponding sources. This package can be used as a build-dependency by other packages shipping Matlab toolboxes. Rational: There is already at least one package in Debian that installs MATLAB MEX extensions (http://packages.debian.org/sid/dynare-matlab, #608919). This package is inspired by the handling of MEX building implemented in this package, but aims at generalizing it and providing a helper for other packages. The NeuroDebian project currently deals with a number of packages that _could_ ship MATLAB code. Moreover, we are working on making it easier for users and developers of formerly Matlab-only software to transition to Octave. For this purpose it would be very useful to have both Octave and Matlab extensions available on a system, so that users can switch back and forth between them until full compatibility is reached (only going back to Matlab as long as still necessary) -- see http://neuro.debian.net/proj_matlab.html From README.source: Although this whole package is pointless without Matlab (a large non-free something) the source package has been placed into 'main' for the following reason: It builds a 'matlab-dev' package that other source packages can build depend on to figure out where to install MEX sources and M-files (analogous to the way Octave packages provide this information via a Makefile snippet). This -dev package has nothing to do with Matlab and should go into 'main', as otherwise no source package that build-depends on it could go into 'main'. That would be suboptimal for otherwise DFSG-compliant package that simply also _can_ build MEX extensions (e.g. see the dynare-matlab package in the archive). The actual Matlab adaptor package is placed into 'contrib'. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: matlab-support Source-Version: 0.0.14 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of matlab-support, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: matlab-support-dev_0.0.14_all.deb to main/m/matlab-support/matlab-support-dev_0.0.14_all.deb matlab-support_0.0.14.dsc to main/m/matlab-support/matlab-support_0.0.14.dsc matlab-support_0.0.14.tar.gz to main/m/matlab-support/matlab-support_0.0.14.tar.gz matlab-support_0.0.14_all.deb to contrib/m/matlab-support/matlab-support_0.0.14_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#623530: ITP: libouch-perl -- exception handling module
Package: wnpp Owner: gregor herrmann gre...@debian.org Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org,debian-p...@lists.debian.org * Package name: libouch-perl Version : 0.0300 Upstream Author : JT Smith j...@plainblack.com * URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Ouch/ * License : Artistic or GPL-1+ Programming Lang: Perl Description : exception handling module The Ouch module (exceptions that don't hurt) provides a class for exception handling that doesn't require a lot of boilerplate, nor any up front definition. It is fast, easy to use, requires few typing, and has no prereqs, but still provides much of that same functionality as e.g. Exception::Class. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#623528: ITP: webdis -- a simple web server providing an HTTP interface to Redis server
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Andriy Senkovych jolly_ro...@itblog.org.ua * Package name: webdis Version : 0.1.0 Upstream Author : Nicolas Favre-Felix n.favrefe...@gmail.com * URL : https://github.com/nicolasff/webdis * License : BSD Programming Lang: C Description : a simple web server providing an HTTP interface to Redis server A very simple web server providing an HTTP interface to Redis. It uses hiredis, jansson, libevent, and http-parser. Features: * GET and POST are supported, as well as PUT for file uploads. * JSON output by default, optional JSONP parameter (?jsonp=myFunction or ?callback=myFunction). * Raw Redis 2.0 protocol output with .raw suffix * BSON support for compact responses and MongoDB compatibility. * HTTP 1.1 pipelining (70,000 http requests per second on a desktop Linux machine.) * Multi-threaded server, configurable number of worker threads. * WebSocket support (Currently using the “hixie-76” specification). * Connects to Redis using a TCP or UNIX socket. * Restricted commands by IP range (CIDR subnet + mask) or HTTP Basic Auth, returning 403 errors. * Possible Redis authentication in the config file. * Pub/Sub using Transfer-Encoding: chunked, works with JSONP as well. Webdis can be used as a Comet server. * Drop privileges on startup. * Custom Content-Type using a pre-defined file extension, or with ?type=some/thing. * URL-encoded parameters for binary data or slashes. For instance, %2f is decoded as / but not used as a command separator. * Logs, with a configurable verbosity. * Cross-origin requests, usable with XMLHttpRequest2 (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing - CORS). * File upload with PUT. * With the JSON output, the return value of INFO is parsed and transformed into an object. * Optional daemonize. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
