Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the spring package.

The package description is:
Spring is a modern full-3D RTS (Real Time Strategy) game engine originally
created to bring the gameplay experience of Total Annihilation into 3D.
Games are played using one of a number of mods.
 .
This package just includes the game engine and the default AI, with no maps,
 mods or rich user interface.

The package is under maintenance by the Debian Games Team but I was the only
person that did work on this package in the past.

Best regards
Jan

2014-02-13 Thread Klee Dienes
That’s interesting regarding krb5 … I should have remembered it would have an
INI file parser, but didn’t realize it had write support.

As far as I can tell libconfuse is read-only.

I definitely appreciate the pointers. I have no opinion on 1), but definitely
agree with your point 2).

Description-en: Proxy to surf the web anonymously
This package contains the JAP client which acts as a local proxy between
your browser and the insecure Internet. All requests for web pages are
handled by JAP and are encrypted several times. The encrypted messages
are sent through a chain of intermediate servers (named Mixes) to the
 final destination on the Internet.
 .
Multiple layers of encryption protect all messages. A Mix collects
messages in a batch, totally changes their appearance (removes one
layer of encryption) and forwards them all at the same time, but
in a different order. An adversary may observe all communication links,
however he cannot determine a relation between incoming and outgoing
packets. A surfer remains anonymous within the group of all users
 of the service.
 .
Demonstrably, the system protects your privacy as long as the Mix
works correctly. Unfortunately nobody knows whether a certain Mix
is actually trustworthy or not. Therefore we use a whole chain of
Mixes. Each message passes through several Mixes and the entire chain
of Mixes has to be corrupt to successfully observe the user's
activities. The chaining effectively prevents single Mixes from
observing. This is the meaning of strong anonymity: Even the
anonymity service itself cannot spy on its users.

Description : secure introspectable tunnels to localhost

ngrok creates a tunnel from the public internet to a port on your
local machine. You can give this URL to anyone to allow them to try
out a web site you're developing without doing any deployment.

It captures all traffic through the tunnel. It displays information
about the HTTP traffic for your inspection. Raw request/response
bytes, parsed headers and form data, JSON/XML syntax checking and more
are included. It can also replay requests.

By default, ngrok will use ngrok.com as a third-party relay. This
service is provided at no-cost and without registration but it is
possible to get additional features by signing up in the service
(which is pay-as-you-want kind). However, it is possible to setup and
use its own server.

Bug#731278: ITP: obsession 2013-08-22

2014-02-13 Thread Fabien Givors (Debian)
Hi,

Since melodie (the owner of the ITP) is a bit busy, she asked me if I
could take care of the packaging.

Here it is, lintian-clean and ready to be reviewed:
- Mentors page: https://mentors.debian.net/package/obsession
- DSC:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/o/obsession/obsession_20130822-1.dsc

As far as I understood, we might already have a sponsor for this package
(mati75.)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ah, it looks like I got it wrong. Sorry mati75, I thought you were a DD.

So I *am* looking for a sponsor (and willing to adopt the package) :)

Bug#738908: RFH: how-can-i-help -- show opportunities for contributing to Debian

2014-02-13 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I like this package a lot, but I don't have the bandwidth required to
maintain it on my own.

I would love to get some help with it.

The package is quite simple, and is maintained in collab-maint.

Feel free to get in touch with me if you want to help.
Please also feel free to commit non-controversial changes to Git (using
branches, if you are not sure).

Thanks,

Lucas

Bug#738850: ITP: iniparser -- a stand-alone INI file reading/writing library

2014-02-13 Thread Sam Hartman
The krb5 libraries include read and write support for the krb5.conf
format, which is very similar but not identical to ini.

I would be entirely happy with the response that:

1) the krb5 profile library should be used only for modifying Kerberos
configs

2) supporting the ABI that your application expects is worth having
multiple libraries in debian that can do the same thing.

Also, libconfuse seems to read ini files. I don't know if it can write
them.

This message is random information; it is *not* an objection to
packaging of iniparser.

Depends: libc6 (>= 2.2.5), libnbio0
Description-en: Transparent Instant Messaging Proxy Server
timps is an (optionally transparent) proxy server targeted at instant
messaging networks -- particularly AOL's Instant Messenger. One of the more
important features is that when multiple users are connected through the
proxy, messages between those users are kept in the local network and not
routed across the internet. Multiple proxies can be connected together to form
trusted networks for secure message routing. The proxy can also be used for
connecting artificial users, such as interactive agents / bots without rate
limiting. More generically, modules can be written that interact at any stage
of message routing, creating a flexible system for developing applications
 with and on IM.
 .
Since timps speaks the IM protocols natively (ie, it looks like an IM server),
DNS rerouting or other tricks can be used to invisibly force users through the
proxy. This is particularly useful for companies facing auditing compliance on
employee communications (for example, Sarbanes-Oxley for financial companies,
or normal policy for law firms).

Description-en: Popular crossword game, similar to Scrabble(R)
Scribble is a hybrid of crossword mentality, positional strategy, and
a true test of your language mastery, similar to the game Scrabble(R)
by Hasbro. You start with a board that serves for the placement for
letter tiles. On the board there are specific squares that when used
can add to your score dramatically. These premium squares can double
or triple letter values. Some of these squares can even double or
triple your word scores! You must position yourself to grab the
squares and block your opponent from spelling out a "killer" word.
 .
This version of Scribble includes a full dictionary, adaptive
vocabulary, and simple learning. Lower difficulty levels give the
computer fewer words to choose from but if you use a word that the
computer wouldn't have, it's fair game from that point forward. At
maximum difficulty, the computer will play about a 750 point game.
 .
This package is not for beginners as the display does not include
letter values or a description of what the symbols on the board
represent. You must be familiar with the game of Scrabble(R) before
 trying to play this game.

You control a space ship in a vertically scrolling window and shoot
enemies. If you kill the boss enemy which appears at the end of each stage,
or if you can survive till the boss enemy gets bored with you and escapes,
you can go to the next stage.
 .
xsoldier has a unique feature --- the "not shooting" bonus. You can get
a pretty good score by not pressing the shoot button. After all, if the
game is a simple kill-everything and shooting is always a good thing, why
do you have to press a shoot button? You can play xsoldier as a simple
kill-everything (and it is the best way to survive), but if you care your
score, you need to kill all enemies with a minimum number of bullets.

Description-en: hard-core shoot 'em up game in blue-or-red world
tenmado is a vertically scrolling, late 1990s style (that is, a massive
number of enemy shots against a smaller-than-it-looks spaceship) shoot 'em
up game. A very accurate collision detection makes it a game of
dexterity. If something looks like a triangle, it is a triangle, not
 a rectangle of similar size.
 .
However, surviving is only 20% of the game. The main feature of tenmado
is the "color chain bonus". You can get a very big score (about 100 times
bigger than a normal enemy-destruction point) by destroying enemies of
the same color successively. It is easy or difficult depending on how
 greedy you are.

Bug#628689: Bug#553035: willing to help

2014-02-13 Thread Etienne Millon
* Alexandre Detiste  [140129 09:24]:
> I use this game and I'm willing to help.

Hi,

Unfortunately not a lot has changed since my last message. Due to the
non-redistributability of opentyrian-data, it's impossible to create a
source package for it. For the moment I created an open-tyrian binary
package that installs the data files to
/usr/share/games/opentyrian/data. The zip can be found at the
following URL:

http://www.camanis.net/tyrian/tyrian21.zip

However it's not possible as is. This zip file should be downloaded
and unpacked during postinst to somewhere in /var (cache or lib). It
is also possible to do this before launching the game somewhere in
$HOME. The latter is probably better as it avoids to download as root.

In the meantime, if you want to test, you can remove the dependency
and launch the game in a directory where data/ contains game data (see
src/file.c).

For the actual download code, I don't know if it's possible to use
game-data-packager, but it's always possible to roll our own solution,
à la flashplugin-nonfree.

In the meantime, I refreshed my packaging, fixed a few
warnings and pushed my package to the following URL:

git+ssh://git.debian.org/git/pkg-games/opentyrian.git

As you can see your help is welcome :)

You can add yourself to Uploaders and help fix the remaining lintian
warnings, do the copyright review (should be OK), and/or of course
find a solution for the data files :)

If it's your first package I'll be happy to help you.

Please let me know what you're interested in.

You're right that the description needs updating, but "Poor Man's
Spotify" is the upstream name of the software.

(it was renamed from pms to mps to avoid aclash with something else;
however internally it still uses pms a lot and creates e.g. .pms-config,
pms-playlist, pms-debug...)

It does look a bit dodgy though. It appears to use http://pleer.com/ as
a source which looks like a copyright-violation website at first glance.

Bug#738860: ITP: idba -- iterative De Bruijn Graph De Novo short read assembler for transcriptome

2014-02-13 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andreas Tille

* Package name: idba
  Version : 1.1.1
  Upstream Author : Yu Peng
* URL : http://i.cs.hku.hk/~alse/hkubrg/projects/idba_tran/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : iterative De Bruijn Graph De Novo short read assembler for
transcriptome
IDBA-Tran is an iterative De Bruijn Graph De Novo short read assembler
for transcriptome. It is purely de novo assembler based on only RNA
sequencing reads. IDBA-Tran uses local assembly to reconstructing
missing k-mers in low-expressed transcripts and then employs progressive
cutoff on contigs to separate the graph into components. Each component
corresponds to one gene in most cases and contains not many transcripts.
A heuristic algorithm based on pair-end reads is then used to find the
 isoforms.

Bug#738850: ITP: iniparser -- a stand-alone INI file reading/writing library

2014-02-13 Thread Klee Dienes
On Feb 13, 2014, at 8:48 AM, Andrew Shadura wrote:

> Well, we've just removed libmcs which did support writing ini files...

> them?

Thanks for the pointer and for the question.

A quick scan turned up the following C-ish options:

Package: confute - read variables from INI-style configuration files
Package: libini-config-dev (from the ding-libs package — think it doesn’t have
write support)

Other projects include:

http://www.compuphase.com/minini.htm (does not appear to be packaged for Debian)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/libini (does not appear to be packaged for
Debian)
http://www.hyperrealm.com/libconfig/libconfig.html (packaged for Debian, but I
don’t think it can handle INI files directly)

More generally, I would argue that there are several packages that use the API
defined by iniParser. It seems more reasonable to package iniParser than to
expect that all upstream packages change their INI parsing APIs (or include
iniParser by copying the sources, as samba does currently).

Rubyzip is a module for reading and writing ZIP files in Ruby. It
supports all the basic operations like extracting from ZIP files,
creating ZIP files and manipulating existing ones. Rubyzip also
 supports ZIP64 files.

If anyone from them Ruby Extras packages team (CCed) wants to take over
the packaging of rubyzip, please do not hesitate. I need it only for
ruby-albacore (#738676) but do not have any other use for it.

Indeed, it's a new upstream version of libzip-ruby. I didn't find it
because I didn't look for packages using the old naming scheme. Thanks
for the hint.

But unfortunately it has been requested to be removed (#737899). I will
see if I can come up with fixes for the two RC bugs so it doesn't get
removed.

Cheers

please check if this isn't a new upstream for the existing libzip-ruby

Well, we've just removed libmcs which did support writing ini files...
Is there really nothing else in archive already to support writing
them?

Bug#729203: CTTE and reasonable solutions

2014-02-13 Thread Jonathan Dowland
Hi Rogério, thanks for looking into resolving this situation.

I haven't read every last mail in the history of this issue and recently
have confined myself to just this bug. There's obviously a detailed
history and a lot of animosity.

I'd say first and foremost, I miss ffmpeg most as a command-line tool.
The tools that link to libav (VLC etc.) seem to continue to work fine
from a user's perspective. I appreciate that there might be a lot of
pain for maintainers below the water line (more on that later). Reading
some of the comments on this bug, I think many users are similarly
missing ffmpeg as a command line tool and are not as concerned about the
library side of things.

So, I fully support packaging ffmpeg as a binary package for the command
line client at the very least, and perhaps as a necessary first step.

If the debian multimedia team are not interested in doing that, fine,
they don't have to. But it would be wrong for them IMHO to prevent some
other interested party from doing so.

Back to maintainers linking against libav. You have said yourself that
the effort involved to get e.g. handbrake to work with Debian's libav
was herculean (not your exact words I know). I believe that, if ffmpeg
libraries and libav libraries can co-exist in the archive, it should be
a maintainer's choice which they link against. So, if it were possible
for ffmpeg's libraries to be packaged without interfering with existing
clients of libav's libraries, a maintainer such as yourself for
handbrake[1] could choose to use ffmpeg, that would be the maintainer's
right.

I suspect that the animosity I've read in this thread from people
towards ffmpeg in the archive as libraries is due to concerns about how
practical it would be for them to co-exist. These are probably valid
concerns that should be looked at. However, they can be, by exploring
real packaging attempts outside the archive (or using experimental)
rather than arguing about theoretics.

So as a first step and addressing many of the requests here I think we
should push on to get the binary packaged on it's own, for now. A good
starting place would be a git repository for the packaging. Should we
base this on the pre-libav ffmpeg package, or start afresh?

[1] perhaps a bad example since it's yourself with the debian multimedia
team...

* Package name: iniparser
  Version : 3.1-1
  Upstream Author : Nicolas Devillard
* URL : http://ndevilla.free.fr/iniparser
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : a stand-alone INI file reading/writing library

The iniParser library is a simple C library offering INI file parsing
services (both reading and writing).

---

Note that there have been two previous ITPs posted for iniParser:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=582657
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=678142

There was concern in the discussion for #678142 about:

 1) Lack of a well-formed build/install system (iniParser includes only
a bare-bones Makefile).

 2) Complexity ("Does anything depend on this, any potential users that
couldn't use something simpler?")

I have addressed #1 by providing a CMake build environment for use by
the Debian package.

Regarding #2, my goal is to package the psmoveapi code for Debian,
which uses the write support of iniparser (not supported by inih). I
also note that Samba seems to include an internal version of
iniParser.

Bug#689207: rust: changing back from ITP to RFP

Sylvestre Ledru wrote:

> Yes, Luca is touch with ftp master regarding the bootstrap issue, we

> the packaging of rust.

I was planning to send a status update as soon as I got a quotable mail
from ftp-masters, but this is taking some time so here's a partial
summary.

Rust packaging is currently technically feasible (see the many PPA or
unofficial debs) but some legal/policy issues have to be ironed before
hitting NEW. I'm collecting issues and drafts at
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging

The main one is the bootstrapping phase, for which I have sent a mail
on 07/02/14 to ftp-masters, asking for a position on the proposals at
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging/Bootstrap
I'm currently waiting for a return on this.

The other (secondary) issue is the libraries bundling, as described in
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging/Unbundling
jemalloc is no more there, libuv is mostly synched (I was waiting for
an imminent 0.12, but I won't hold my breathe anymore), gyp is a minor
build annoyance, but LLVM is a big beast. For the latter, upstream is
trying to catch up upstream on x86 for 1.0 (but not a blocker):
https://github.com/mozilla/rust/wiki/Meeting-weekly-2014-02-04#wiki-llvm
While this is an annoyance, it won't block NEW review (assuming all the
copyrights are well in place) and (AFAICT) won't have an impact for
-security till when we hit testing/stable (which I still consider
premature now).

Other items just listed in the above page are in a flux:
* soname stability is much better now after[0], but I
feel that the dynamic-vs-linking discussion is not yet written in
  stone.
* rustpkg and dpkg integration is not yet there, as rustpkg was
  recently scrapped[1].
* I don't plan to touch multi-arch and cross-build until things are a
  bit more stable.
* Co-installation of several versions is an open design point. PPA
packages can already do that and I'd like to have it, but I like to
have a proper runtime-vs-compiler split in place before going there.
I still have to get in touch with PPA author.

That's mostly it. I'll CC the ftp-masters reply here as soon as I get
it.

Bug#738827: RFP: CasperJS - navigation scripting & testing utility for PhantomJS

2014-02-13 Thread Julian Taylor
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Package name: CasperJS
Version: 1.0.4
URL: http://casperjs.org/
License: MIT

CasperJS is an open source navigation scripting & testing utility
written in Javascript for the PhantomJS WebKit headless browser and
SlimerJS (Gecko). It eases the process of defining a full navigation
scenario and provides useful high-level functions, methods & syntactic
sugar for doing common tasks such as:

defining & ordering browsing navigation steps
filling & submitting forms
clicking & following links
capturing screenshots of a page (or part of it)
testing remote DOM
logging events
downloading resources, including binary ones
writing functional test suites, saving results as JUnit XML
scraping Web contents

I require it in order to be able to run the javascript testsuite of
the upcoming version 2 of IPython, but I have no clue about javascript
so I do not fell comfortable packaging it myself. I can help out if
needed.

I admit if I would have had a quick clue I would have provided it
immediately. Despite I'm using pbuilder basically all the time I never
experienced this problem ... most probably since I never added any *-dbg
package to the Build-Dependencies which is IMHO totally void. Do you
have any reason for this?

So I would recommend:

$ git diff
diff --git a/debian/control b/debian/control

in any case.

When speaking about Build-Depends: Please also remove quilt from
Build-Depends *and* from debian/rules (--with ...,quilt). This is
redundant when using debian/source/format 3.0 (quilt).

After applying the patch above the package does not yet build since it
runs into:

'build/scripts-2.7' does not exist -- can't clean it
pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p 3.3 --dir .

if on the building machine the packages python-numpy *and* python3-numpy
are missing. I have no idea how autobuild machines are dealing with
this but I'd recommend asking for advise at the
debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org mailing list how to sensibly tweak your
clean target to only clean "if necessary" and prevent setup.py from
doing useless things.

Kind regards

Andreas.

Yes, Luca is touch with ftp master regarding the bootstrap issue, we are
discussing with upstream on the llvm patches
and we have the agreement from Mozilla GSoC admin to propose a gsoc on
the packaging of rust.

Cheers,
Sylvestre
