Bug#810304: ITP: stratagus -- Stratagus is a free cross-platform real-time strategy gaming engine.
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Alexandre Detiste * Package name: stratagus Version : 2.4.0 Upstream Author : Stratagus Team * URL : https://github.com/Wargus/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: C++ & Lua Description : Stratagus is a free cross-platform real-time strategy gaming engine. Stratagus is a fork of the Freecraft engine. This generic engine that can be used to play 'wargus' (Warcraft II or WCII-like "Aleonas Tales") or 'stargus' (StarCraft) games. Only wargus is in a good shape, it will be addressed in a other ITP. Stratagus was once in Debian, but got removed years ago when Freecraft was deemed in a better shape; nowadays "Freecraft" name seems to have vanished from the surface of the earth and only links to minecraft-y stuff. Thanks to the renewal of interrest brought by Stratagus's fork Wyrmsun; development is lively again with a third of four completely different team and long standing bugs have been fixed. I plan to first continue to fix the upstream-provided debian/ directory with help from other Debian-using contributors & then upload it to Debian inside the Games Team.

Bug#605090:
I've been experimenting with the source package in unstable. There is still some security advantages of building the source package such as unique RANDSTRUCT values not known publicly: https://github.com/Whonix/grsecurity-installer/issues/1#issuecomment-169819722 Installing the build dependencies on Debian stable would upgrade a lot of core libs to unstable. Can you consider adding the gcc and other build tools Debian stable versions to the package control file? @Jacob At the moment we have someone willing to work on expanding the paxrat exceptions configuration list. We are also looking at some of the prerequisities for Debian packaging and useful features: https://github.com/subgraph/paxrat/issues Can you please help in getting it packaged in Debian?
Bug#810290: ITP: mediawiki -- website engine for collaborative work
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Kunal Mehta * Package name: mediawiki Version : 1.25.5 Upstream Author : MediaWiki developers * URL : https://www.mediawiki.org/ * License : GPL-2.0+ Programming Lang: PHP Description : website engine for collaborative work MediaWiki is a wiki engine (a program for creating a collaboratively edited website). It is designed to handle heavy websites containing library-like document collections, and supports user uploads of images/sounds, multilingual content, TOC autogeneration, ISBN links, etc. Moreover, it keeps track of changes, so users can receive notifications, view diffs and revert edits. This system has many other features and can easily be extended. This package was formerly in Debian and removed due to a lack of active maintainers and updates. I am an active upstream developer who uses the software.
Bug#810288: ITP: perspective-el -- tagged workspaces in Emacs
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Sean Whitton * Package name: perspective-el Version : 1.12 Upstream Author : Natalie Weizenbaum * URL : https://github.com/nex3/perspective-el * License : GPL-3 Programming Lang: Emacs Lisp Description : tagged workspaces in Emacs A popular Emacs Lisp extension. Upstream description: This package provides tagged workspaces in Emacs, similar to workspaces in windows managers such as Awesome and XMonad (and somewhat similar to multiple desktops in Gnome or Spaces in OS X). perspective.el provides multiple workspaces (or "perspectives") for each Emacs frame. This makes it easy to work on many separate projects without getting lost in all the buffers. Each perspective is composed of a window configuration and a set of buffers. Switching to a perspective activates its window configuration, and when in a perspective only its buffers are available by default. I intend to maintain this as part of the pkg-emacsen team.
Bug#810289: ITP: helm -- Emacs incremental completion and selection narrowing framework
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Sean Whitton * Package name: helm Version : 1.9.1 Upstream Author : Thierry Volpiatto * URL : https://emacs-helm.github.io/helm/ * License : GPL-3 Programming Lang: Emacs Lisp Description : Emacs incremental completion and selection narrowing framework An alternative to Ido, very popular among Emacs users. Upstream description: Helm is incremental completion and selection narrowing framework for Emacs. It will help steer you in the right direction when you're looking for stuff in Emacs (like buffers, files, etc). Helm is a fork of anything.el originally written by Tamas Patrovic and can be considered to be its successor. Helm sets out to clean up the legacy code in anything.el and provide a cleaner, leaner and more modular tool, that's not tied in the trap of backward compatibility. I intend to maintain this as part of the pkg-emacsen team.

Bug#810285: O: apache-mod-auth-ntlm-winbind
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I originally packaged this module as it was being used by one of my clients in a project, but they've switched to using libapache2-mod-auth-kerb instead, so I no longer have access to an environment where I can test the package, which means I can't usefully maintain it. I've been wondering whether to request removal instead of orphaning, as NTLM is not very secure by modern standards, as the package description warns: If you're considering using this module, you should be aware that NTLM isn't regarded as very secure by modern standards - even Microsoft no longer recommends its use - and where possible, you probably want to use Kerberos with negotiate auth over https instead (see Debian package libapache2-mod-auth-kerb). AIUI negotiate auth over http (rather than https) suffers from connection hijack issues, but I don't know how it compares in overall security terms with NTLM if you aren't able to use https. So I'm going to just orphan for now. Cheers, Olly signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Bug#810268: ITP: kpatch -- Dynamic kernel patching module and utility
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Chris J Arges * Package name: kpatch Version : 0.3.1 Upstream Author : Josh Poimboeuf * URL : http://github.com/dynup/kpatch * License : GPLv2 Programming Lang: C, Bash Description : Dynamic kernel patching module and utility Description From Packaging: kpatch is a Linux dynamic kernel patching tool which allows you to patch a running kernel without rebooting or restarting any processes. It enables sysadmins to apply critical security patches to the kernel immediately, without having to wait for long-running tasks to complete, users to log off, or for scheduled reboot windows. It gives more control over up-time without sacrificing security or stability. This package is useful because it provides tooling to support building of Livepatch modules for Linux Kernel v4.0 and newer. In addition this package supports using Kpatch on existing kernels by building a module for that kernel and providing tools to build modules for Kpatch. I can maintain this package. Well, I've been receiving multiple bug reports through various lists in the past days from the libpng maintainers which asked people to fix their B-D regarding libpng-dev to prepare for libpng1.6 and setting these bugs as blockers for the transition bug. And since Stretch is to be frozen on December, 5th, I'm pretty sure transition is going to start in the near future unless you have any more definitive insider information I don't have. Adrian

Bug#810222: ITP: gnome-shell-extension-sound-device-chooser -- Sound output device chooser extension for GNOME Shell
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Gaudenz Steinlin * Package name: gnome-shell-extension-sound-device-chooser Version : GIT upstream snapshot Upstream Author : Gopi Sankar Karmegam * URL : https://github.com/kgshank/gse-sound-output-device-chooser * License : GPL3+ Programming Lang: GNOME Shell JavaScript Description : Sound output device chooser extension for GNOME Shell Sound output device chooser shows a list of sound output devices (similar to the GNOME sound settings) in the status menu below the volume slider. It lets you select the active device and output port (HDMI , Speakers etc.). I would like to maintain this under the umbrella of the Debian GNOME Maintainers team. With the maintainer field set to the team and myself in uploaders. I'm open to others also updating the package in the future. I initially intended to name the package gnome-shell-extension-sound-OUTPUT-device-chooser as this is the upstream name of the plugin with gnome-shell-extension prepended. But this gives a lintian warning because the file names in the source and binary packages are too long (> 80 chars). The best I could come up so far to resolve this is to strip the "output" part out of the package name. But I'm open to better suggestions. Gaudenz
Bug#801253: O: wicd -- wired and wireless network manager
Hi Axel! >The main reason why I haven't uploaded it as QA upload already is that >wicd-curses is slightly broken since 1.7.3. This likely requires >patching upstream code to get it fixed. See the TODO at >http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/wicd.git/tree/debian/changelog#n3 yes, I thought I mentioned that, but thanks! >> The new release is already imported in git, so it might just be a >> matter of rebasing patches,>That's already done. I was talking about the patches in the BTS (bugs tagged "patch"). I think they should be checked and untagged/ or fixed if possible cheers! Gianfranco
Bug#801253: O: wicd -- wired and wireless network manager
Hi, >I'd like to maintain the wicd package, especially because it's a kind of >popular package. That would offer me a great challenge to master. But i >assume, I'll certainly make errors and certainly be very slow at the >beginning in comparison with an experienced maintainer. > >I can't estimate if that's a critical problem or if I'm suitable for >maintaining such a popular package. Of course I'll do my best. > >==> So, what do you guys think about that? being a new maintainer doesn't stop you from trying to adopt a package, specially because you need a sponsor to see your changes propagated, so don't worry, somebody will double check your work! In this case, I'll be *very* happy to see you maybe fork the git repository here http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/wicd.git (maybe on a github repository? just to avoid initial messing of the repo). you might want to make the packaged 1.7.3 version uploaded on Debian (it is already on the master branch) I cc'd Emanuele and Axel, the last sponsors of the package. The new release is already imported in git, so it might just be a matter of rebasing patches, check the patches in the BTS if they still apply/they are sane/they work, include them in the packaging https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?include=tags%3Apatch&exclude=tags%3Apending&pend-exc=done&repeatmerged=no&src=wicd and check if everything works. (fix the TODO in changelog and and find a sponsor). I'm pretty sure somebody will check your work, and please ask if something is not clear enough. BTW "upstream" branch should contain 1.7.3 version, but seems that Ritesh forgot to push the tags :) cheers! Gianfranco
