Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the yowsup package.

Yowsup is a very good WhatsApp client implementation. However, the constant
changes in protocol makes a bit hard to maintain this package (specially in
Debian stable). The dependencies aren't updated and it is impeditive to
release a new Debian revision.

I don't think that Yowsup must be removed from Debian. I suggest to wait a
more stable version of WhatsApp protocol. I believe that it will occur in
a medium time (one or two years).

The package description is:
WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app
which allows you to exchange messages, via Internet, without
having to pay for SMS, using a mobile phone.
 .
In addition to basic messaging, WhatsApp users can create
groups, send each other unlimited images, video and audio
 media messages.
 .
Yowsup is a cross platform Python library that enable to do all
the previous in your own app. Yowsup allows you to login and use
the WhatsApp service, providing all capabilities of an official
WhatsApp client, allowing to create a full-fledged custom
 WhatsApp client.
 .
 python-yowsup has these features:
- Registration.
- Text send/receive.
- Encryption of messages.
- Media send/receive (images, videos, audio, location,
  contact cards).
- Groups(create, leave, join, update picture, updating
  subject).
- Fetch user profile picture.
- Fetch user status.
- Set profile picture.
- Set group icon.
- Set status and others.
  .
The package yowsup-cli is a good example of the python-yowsup
  implementation.

Bug#829046: Status of pagure

OK, so here's a more detailed update.

I've advanced quite a bit in the packaging, but there are still some
things to do.

I'm using a temporary repository to push what I've done so far; it's
good because I can overwrite history if needed. The URL is:

Eventually I'll move everything to collab-maint/pagure, which should be
the official repository anyway.

All the Python dependencies have finally been packaged, which is good
because I can fully build the package now. However, there are still
some JavaScript libraries that are (a) not being shipped on Debian, and
(b) bundled in their minified version inside pagure. This is bad, so my
next task is to package those libraries for Debian. You can take a look
at them by going to the pagure/static directory on the source tree.

I decided to follow what Fedora does and split the package into several
subpackages. The first one, pagure, should contain the core
functionality and work out-of-the-box. Then, the user will also have
the possibility to install:

 - pagure-milters, which takes care of allowing users to comment on
tickets/pull-requests by e-mail (instead of going to the web
interface). This package in specific also has a "problem": it
depends on postfix to work properly, which is not good because Debian
ships exim4 as the default MTA. I've also been investigating how to
use milters with exim4, and I *may* have a solution.

 - pagure-ev-server, which allows live refreshing of a page when someone
   is viewing it.

 - pagure-webhook-server, which sends notifications to third-party
services (like fedmsg) using POST http reqs.

There's also the pagure-doc package.

I ran the full testsuite and found a few errors on Debian. I'm in
constant communication with upstream, so they are aware and I should
send some patches in the next days.

I still have this TODO list:

 - Package missing JS libraries

 - Send patch upstream to use python-bcrypt instead of py-bcrypt to hash
   passwords

 - Take care of d/copyright

 - Correctly fill d/pagure-doc.doc-base

 - Review the *.init scripts and make sure they work

 - Review the *.postinst scripts and make sure they work

 - Write *.postrm scripts

 - Decide whether to run pagure-milters as user/group postfix. Maybe
decide that based on what the user is using as MTA, and change it
accordingly on pagure-milters.postinst. Same applies for
   pagure-milters.tmpfile.

 - Maybe include more systemd security features on *.service files.

 - Fix some lintian warnings/errors that I've seen

Well, that's it. I think I should be able to finish everything by the
end of the week, and then move to the sponsorship phase :-).

Cheers,

The default server is definitely hardcoded, and it is hosted by the
author who has explicitly absolved himself of any responsibility to
maintain it in the long run. But yes it is also possible to specify
relay and transfer servers manually from the command line (which of
course reduces a lot of the "magic").

I would say that the current dependence on a shared central server is
the one achilles heel of magic-wormhole. The author is actively working
on ways to reduce that dependence, though (e.g. MDNS).

A fancy wrapper around "dnf --installroot", "debootstrap" and

Generated images are "legacy-free". This means only GPT disk

Bug#833793: ITP: telegram-purple -- Adds support for Telegram to libpurple

2016-08-08 Thread Ben Wiederhake
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ben Wiederhake

* Package name: telegram-purple
  Version : 1.3.0
  Upstream Author : Matthias Jentsch
* URL : https://github.com/majn/telegram-purple
* License : GPL2+
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Adds support for Telegram to libpurple

This provides a libpurple plugin that allows e.g. pidgin to
use Telegram (telegram.org) as a backend.

This package is relevant, because currently users would have to choose between:
- Not using Telegram at all
- Using the official Telegram client (which is considered annoying, because
users want to keep ONE im client with ALL accounts)
- Downloading, compiling, installing directly from source (which is annoying
because that's what the debian repo is for)

I personally use it, and several friends of mine. I participated in making it
ready for Debian (e.g. cleared a GPL-violation, cleaned up the build system).
I will continue to use and maintain this package, because I rely on being
able to be reachable via Telegram via Pidgin.

There are other packages (all in RFP state) that provide similar functionality:
- "tg", which is called upstream "telegram-cli", is a CLI for communicating
with telegram. This serves the need of those who EXCLUSIVELY use telegram. I
don't fall into this group.
- "telegram", which is a RFP of the official client. Same problem: This serves
the need of those who EXCLUSIVELY use telegram. I don't fall into this group.
- Note that this is a resurrection of #800771, as it timed out.

You might notice that tg (telegram-cli) and telegram-purple both use the same
basic library: libtgl ( https://github.com/vysheng/tgl )
It is not meaningful to ship that package separately as a "shared library"
(e.g.
"libtgl.so"). The rationale for this and other packaging choices can be
found in `debian/README.source`.

Just to reassure: upstream of telegram-purple (= Matthias Jentsch) is very
willing to see telegram-purple accepted in Debian.

Proposed maintainers:
- Ben Wiederhake (absolutely no experience in maintaining a Debian package)

If you intend to check out the source on GitHub, please notice that this
project makes use of git submodules *within* git submodules, and thus you
need to do "git clone --recursive https://github.com/majn/telegram-purple";

The current efforts of "Debianization" can be found at this branch:
https://github.com/BenWiederhake/telegram-purple/tree/debian-develop/

You might notice that 1.3.0 isn't released yet -- that's because it truely
isn't. However, it's stable, and they/we are about to release, and I think
there's nothing essential missing in `debian/`, so I might be able to RFS
within a day after release of 1.3.0.

Regards,
Ben

I was thinking more of something like, everyone can setup many servers,
and the most popular/common one can be set as a default.

heck, the Debian project could run one and set it as a default in the
Debian package. :)

Fair enough, *a* central host is hardcoded. You could obviously set up your

At no point was I attempting to discourage anyone, apologies if it came off

It is not hardcoded: you can change the central host and relay with a
simple commandline option.

$ wormhole --help | grep -B1 'to use'
Options:
--relay-url URL rendezvous relay to use
--transit-helper tcp:HOST:PORT transit relay to use

This could, arguably, be done in a configuration file to facilitate
using third party servers, but this can hardly be considered
hardcoded. Anyways, if the current main host goes down, I assume the
software can/will be patched to provide other hosts as options.

Keep in mind transfers are ephemeral: the central hosts are used only to
establish contact and transfer the file, then everything is torn down.

>> We still ship FTP daemons that serve files without passwords and use
>> cleartext by default.
>
> They're not labeled "secure" though ;)

Actually, quite a few are:

$ LANG=C apt search 'ftpd$' secure
Sorting... Done
Full Text Search... Done
pure-ftpd/stable 1.0.36-3.2 amd64
  Secure and efficient FTP server

twoftpd/stable,testing 1.42-1 amd64
a simple secure efficient FTP server (programs)

vsftpd/stable 3.0.2-17+deb8u1 amd64
lightweight, efficient FTP server written for security

"Secure" can mean anything. A dog in a house can make it more secure,
and the best crypto in the world can be considered insecure if you have
the password on a sticky on your screen facing an outside window.

In the above case, "secure" means anything from "no known remote root
vulnerabilities", "TLS support" or "privilege separation"...

I agree it is somewhat of an empty word, but it shouldn't be considered
reason enough to keep stuff from entering Debian, because then you'd
have a *lot* of packages to kick out the archive. Heck, "apt search
secure" suggests I installed zendframework, and we know how scary PHP
security has been in the past. ;)

> Just to clarify, I never objected to the package itself, just that I
> wasn't sure about it being called "secure". I don't know enough about
> the algorithms and attack surfaces involved to make any kind of
> qualified statement though, so maybe it does qualify as secure.

Well, I am not a cryptographer myself, so I can't comment about the
algorithm. But I am somewhat familiar with such protocols and I found
they brought a novel and robust system in place, that has similar
robustness properties than existing protocols (e.g. Oauth with a
digit-only PIN) with interesting enhancements that make it fail more
gracefully (abort transfer after first failed attempt).

May I suggest that, if you do not know enough about security protocols,
you refrain from discouraging people, that do have some knowledge about
them, from packaging software into Debian? :)

Thank you for your feedback,

A.

Description : OpenStack virtual network service - Tap-as-a-Service
extension

Tap-as-a-Service (TaaS) is an extension to the OpenStack network service
(Neutron).
It provides remote port mirroring capability for tenant virtual networks.

Port mirroring involves sending a copy of packets entering and/or leaving one
port to another port, which is usually different from the original destinations
of the packets being mirrored.

This service has been primarily designed to help tenants (or the cloud
administrator)
debug complex virtual networks and gain visibility into their VMs, by
monitoring the
network traffic associated with them. TaaS honors tenant boundaries and its
mirror
sessions are capable of spanning across multiple compute and network nodes. It
serves
as an essential infrastructure component that can be utilized for supplying
data to a
variety of network analytics and security applications (e.g. IDS).

Package will be maintained under the pkg-openstack team.

Bug#833729: ITP: networking-sfc -- Service Function Chaining extension for OpenStack Neutron

2016-08-08 Thread James Page
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: James Page

* Package name: networking-sfc
  Version : 1.0.0
* URL : http://github.com/openstack/networking-sfc
* License : Apache 2.0
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Service Function Chaining extension for OpenStack Neutron

networking-sfc provides API and implementation to support Service Function
Chaining in OpenStack Neutron.

Service Function Chaining is a mechanism for overriding the basic destination
based forwarding that is typical of IP networks. It is conceptually related
to Policy Based Routing in physical networks but it is typically thought of as
a Software Defined Networking technology. It is often used in conjunction with
security functions although it may be used for a broader range of features.
Fundamentally SFC is the ability to cause network packet flows to route through
a network via a path other than the one that would be chosen by routing table
lookups on the packet's destination IP address. It is most commonly used in
conjunction with Network Function Virtualization when recreating in a virtual
environment a series of network functions that would have traditionally been
implemented as a collection of physical network devices connected in series
by cables.

This package will be maintained under the pkg-openstack team.
