What do you need of upstream?
Also, can you please keep the bug number on the loop so that there's a

Bug#634262: ITP: arpwatch-ng -- Ethernet/FDDI station activity monitor, based on arpwatch

2011-07-18 Thread Amaya
Hi there, Michael

Michael Tautschnig wrote:
 1. Quoting Aníbal from the message the URL of which you gave above:
   Yes, I've been aware of arpwatch-ng and was thinking about changing
   arpwatch upstream soruce to arpwatch-ng's.
 Why isn't this approach being pursued?

Because he has had three NMU's, his last upload was on 2004 and I have
got no reply from him since I pinged him and Anibal about a month ago.
I just don't want to step on his toes. It would be a takeover, and he
just asked to be in the Uploaders field for arpwatch-ng.

 2. The description a) seems to indicate that arpwatch-ng just has a few 64bit
 patches that were best integrated into arpwatch anyhow; b) makes me simply
 wonder what improving means, as I'm running it on 64bit systems just fine!?

There's other improvements however, and quite some, just look at
http://freequaos.host.sk/arpwatch/ (pasting changelog here for completeness on
the BTS):

arpwatch NG 1.7:
update autoconf system to support x86_64 better [UPDATED]

arpwatch NG 1.6:
use a central report function table to ease customization [FIXED]
minor cleanups and updates [FIXED]

arpwatch NG 1.5:
try to report error on startup better _ arp.dat _ ethercodes.dat [FIXED]

arpwatch NG 1.4:
try to report _all anomalities via the report function _not syslog
[FIXED]
mode 2 _ make action list parseable [FIXED]
further static'fy local functions in arpwatch.c [FIXED]
ethercodes updated from nmap-4.11 and removed old ones [UPDATED]

arpwatch NG 1.2:
on make install also install man-pages [FIXED]
ethercodes updated from nmap-4.00 [UPDATED]

arpwatch NG 1.1:
allow for attaching pcap / tcpdump_style filters [ADDED]
improve and update man-page [FIXED]

arpwatch NG 1.0:
allow getopt() to complain about unknown options [FIXED]
rework help output and send to stdout, not stderr [FIXED]

previous versions _ all changes included in NG 1.0 _
DROP1:
code was in bad and old shape [FIXED]
ethercodes were old - updated from NMAP [FIXED]

DROP2:
reporting to stdout added [ADDED]
ethercodes updated from nmap-3.81 [UPDATED]

DROP3:
report using raw mode _ so later filters can change output as
they like _ [ADDED]
close stdin _ stdout _ stderr in daemon again [FIXED]
clean up reporting subsystem [FIXED]

DROP4:
compile fix for arpwatch.c [FIXED]
segfault fix for report.c - arpwatch.c: uninitialized function
pointer [FIXED]
include overflow security fix [FIXED]

DROP4.1:
compile fix for NON-GNU systems: strndup() missing [ADDED]

DROP5:
rewrite make install target [FIXED]
remove #ifdef DEBUG altogether [FIXED]
simplify initialization code in arpwatch.c [FIXED]

DROP6:
apply lots of vendor patches from debian [MERGED]
eg continue on unconfigured interface, option -p for
non-promiscous mode, ... - see changelog
misc fixes [FIXED]

DROP7:
more debian patches [MERGED]
drop privileges to user _ specify sendmail-prog _ mail-to option
minor security fix for replacement strndup() [FIXED]

DROP8:
added fancy mac adress printing [ADDED]

DROP9:
ethercodes updated from nmap-3.83 [UPDATED]
add -F as mail_from option [ADDED]
shorten checkpoint time of arp db [FIXED]
also try mktemp in mkdep script [FIXED]

DROP10:
fix bug: arp.dat was not checkpointed or updated while running
[FIXED]

Not only 64bits users will benefit from these changes. And yes, I do have
hundreds of installs on 64bits that do segfault with vanilla arpwatch, so I can
confirm it does.

In short, I don't care that much about how to fix this, but I want it fixed and
without getting in arpwatch's maintainer's way.

2008-03-04 Thread Amaya
Hey, Damyan!

Damyan Ivanov wrote:
 Thanks for the heads up. I hope to resolve this this month.

That would be very nice. keep in mind the release freeze is schedueled
in only 6 weeks!

 It seems that upstream is unwilling to thange the name and I am not
 willing to fork, so we'll go with gbgoffice for the name no mater
 how bad it sounds.

Q: Why did teh chicken cross the road?
A: Because upstream said so

;)

Yes, upstreams are sometimes very stubborn.

 The package is ready and only needs to be reviewed for current
 policy compliance etc.

Again, let me know if tehre's any help needed here.

This has to be fixed asap, or gbgoffice will not be a part of Lenny.

Bug#465990: Mass bug filing: non-UTF8 debian/{control.changelog}

Hey!

Thanks for the status update.

Russ Allbery wrote:

 There are no remaining packages with control encoding problems.

According to http://release.debian.org/lenny/goals.txt

I think this Release Goal can be changed to State: finished very soon.
Another release goal for lenny+1 should be issued inheriting the leftovers from
this one.

The Bug-Url field lists several bugs that seem not to exist in sid/testing
anymore:

#453966: xmms-arts: debian/changelog should be utf8
 * [2008-01-20] xmms-arts REMOVED from testing (Britney)
 * [2008-01-20] Removed 0.7.1-4 from unstable (Joerg Jaspert)

Maybe these bugs can be closed or marked as non-blocking?
What about gmanedit? I am Cc:ing the ITA for followup. Anibal, do you plan to
upload soon? Could you mark #453982 pending?

Stuff that still needs to happen:
 * radiusclient: NMU (patch at #456870) by Marga (announced Thu, 28 Feb 2008)
 * gmanedit: upload with a new maintainer, hopefully fixing other bugs too by
 Anibal Alvelar
 * unblock of #453954 by #453966, #453982, #453991, #454016, #454027, #454016

Bug#285159: Status of display-dhammapada

2006-10-26 Thread Amaya
Another problem, you moved the whole package to non-free.
That's too much.

I think we need to split the package, including the source package into
two. display-dhammapada is perfectly free, as it is in the open-domain.
So it belongs in main.

It can suggest the polish translation, to be packages separately, and it
belongs in non-free. But I think the latest version of
display-dhammapada contains a free, and distributable polish
translation.

SO maybe there is no need to make this so messy. Let's wait to see what
the people from Debian-legal have to say about this.

Hi there,

Seeing what Leo said in #151608, back in 2002, do you still think it is
worth packaging gsubtitle?
Quoting, from this bug, reported 2002-07-01:

Package name: gsubedit
Version : 0.4pre1 (same as you)

 I'm not gonna package GSubEdit because the upstream author has
 frozen development indefinetly, if he resumes development and
 the application reaches an usable status, I'll package it
 again.

I am also working on it atm, just for personal use, I don't think I will
upload it, but is there anything I can help you with?

If you still plan to package gsubtitle, please answer, as you would
become upstream for it, if you don't, please close this bug.

Thanks!

Bug#379548: ITP: subtitleeditor -- Graphical subtitle editor with sound waves representation

2006-08-11 Thread Amaya Rodrigo Sastre
In reply to a RFP, and with the idea of creating subtitles for the talks given
in Spanish during Debian Day at Debconf6, found at
http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2006/debconf6/theora-small/2006-05-13/tower/
I intend to package subtitleeditor.

* Package name: subtitleeditor
  Version : 0.9
  Upstream Author : IDJAAD djamel (aka kitone) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://kitone.free.fr/subtitleeditor/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Graphical subtitle editor with sound waves representation

 Subtitle Editor is a GTK+2 tool to edit subtitles. It can be used for new
 subtitles or as a tool to transform, edit, correct and refine existing
 subtitles.
 .
 This program also shows soundwaves which makes it easier for subtitles
 synchronisation that most other subtitle editors like ksubtile or gaupol.

So, now that I read this aloud, is it that or than here?
Nah, the description should definitely be improved.

Preliminary work can be found at
http://www.amayita.com/debian/subtitleeditor
but don't expect an upload until next week.

BTW, Co-maintainers are most welcome!

Bug#360672: [bfr] finish /usr/doc transition

2006-07-13 Thread Amaya
Hi There!

Decklin Foster wrote:
 Thanks! I was planning on NMUing 1.6 if I didn't hear from Mark. I'll
 just go ahead and use this packaging to do so, unless you'd rather
 adopt it (I think I'll leave it orphaned and handle any other bugs
 that come up, at least for a while, in case he comes back).

I am afraid I am not interested in adopting it, I am just working to end
this transition.

I uploaded a version that fixes the issues I outlined, so please feel
free to keep working on bfr, adopt it. adn orphaned it because it is not
very likely that Mark comes back in a while (as a MIA template was using
when orphaning bfr).

Your work in Debian is appreciated.

Bug#360672: [bfr] finish /usr/doc transition

2006-07-12 Thread Amaya
Hi there!

I am currently working on finishing the /usr/doc transition at the
moment and I intend to *lovingly* NMU bfr.

My NMU also fixes:
- #217530 bfr: Build-Depends on libc6-dev, c-compiler
- #277227: package description typo(s) and the like
- #369807: Typo: its an unexpected -- it's an unexpected

I will be shortly providing a NMU-diff. Until then, my patch and work
can be found at: http://www.amayita.com/debian/3_NMU/bfr/

The 0-day NMU season is open, so expect an inmediate upload.

Bug#369095: Orphaning plucker?

2006-06-01 Thread Amaya Rodrigo Sastre
Hi there!

Ludovic Rousseau wrote:
 I am using plucker and wanted to know why you orphaned it (#369095).
 Just a lack of time or is there a big technical problem?

It was lack of time, hardware to test it and interest.

 I may adopt the package but would like to have your words first.

Please go ahead, plucker deserves (and is in need of) some serious love
:)

Take care!

Bug#181276: This is getting to rot already

2005-08-16 Thread Amaya
block 266343 by 181276
thanks

Hi there, Ralph and Juanma.

Facturalux version in Debian is 0.4 and upstream is 1.7. Newest
Facturalux needs qsa-x11-free, so this bug is a blocker for the one
requesting facturalux to be updated to newest upstream release.

If Ralph is still interested in packaging qsa-x11-free, maybe he could
keep us updated on the state of this package. In the meantime, Juanma,
if no input is received on the status of #181276 we should just retitle
it to RFP and publicite it on debian-mentors or maybe devel.

Thanks both for your time

Bug#274726: RFP: epylog -- New logs analyzer and parser.

2004-10-03 Thread Amaya Rodrigo Sastre
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

This could be a nice (and easy) project to package for beginners, that I
am willing to sponsor.

* Package name: epylog
  Version : 1.0.1
  Upstream Author : Konstantin Ryabitsev icon.[at].linux.duke.edu
* URL : http://linux.duke.edu/projects/epylog/
* License : GPL
  Description : New logs analyzer and parser.

Epylog is a new log notifier and parser which runs periodically out of
cron, looks at your logs, processes the entries in order to present
them in a more comprehensive format, and then provides you with the
output. It is written specifically with large network clusters in mind
where a lot of machines (around 50 and upwards) log to the same
loghost using syslog or syslog-ng.

Bug#248767: Lirc Debian Package

Pierre Machard wrote:
 Of course you can. Do you mind if I co-maintain the package with you ?
 I am using lirc, but to be honnest I lack of time these days.

That would be wonderful! I am all for it! I intend to learn a lot while
working on lirc, and I am sure you will teach me most of it! :-)

Ian Murdock is also interested in Co-Maintaining. I've put him in the
Uploaders field, tell me if it's fine with you.

So, now for the candid question... Do I have to add you to the Uploaders
field for you to be a co-maintainer or is there anything else we need to
do? I don't seem to find enough info on the developer corner...

 Out-of-date binaries have to be removed before lirc can enter into
 testing. I filled a bug repport #260565 and Thomas Bushnell also
 #267323

Are they merged? Do you want me to take care of that?

And a lot of bug reports need to be taken care of... I will start
working on the ones I can handle (i am just dealing with lintian and
linda + wnpp bugs in this upload). Whenever I stumble upon something I
can't quite fix I'll ping either of you.

We can also find better ways to work in this more effectively (Alioth?).
I can take care of this too. That way we can have an alioth mailing list
as the maintainer address and we can all be in the Uploaders field,
right?

Mmm, I just hope this won't get too big for my pants ;-)

Dear Riku,

I see you intend to take care of libirman (June 4th 2004).

Ian Murdock and Pierre Machard, and you haven't uploaded yet, I want to
ask you if you are still interested, and how can we work together in
order to fix #242106 (libirman: new upstream release) filed by Manuel

Bug#249533: O: imwheel -- Program to support the wheel on most new mice

2004-05-17 Thread Amaya Rodrigo Sastre
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the imwheel package.

I am no longer using it or properly able to take care of it, mainly
because I don't use XFree 3.x.x anymore. I still find this package
important/useful for people running old or slow hardware, that's why I'm
orphaning it instead of removing it from the archive. It has a RC bug
that can posibly be downgraded. It should not be hard to fix, but I
don't have the hardware.

If anyone is interested, please drop me a line. If nobody adopts imwheel
in a month or so, I will request it's removal from the archive.

The package description is:
 Most new mice, including the Microsoft IntelliMouse, and the Logitech
 MouseMan+, Wheel Mouse, and others, now have a wheel button in the
 middle of them. This wheel button acts both as a standard button (by
 pressing it), and a wheel, which under MS Windows may be used for
 scrolling windows around.

 This program supports the wheel scrolling operation by one of two
 means:
 1. Some newer X servers support mapping the wheel to buttons 4 and 5,
which imwheel then captures and supports,
 2. Using a patched version of gpm, the normal mouse events are passed
on to the X server through /dev/gpmdata (gpm's standard repeater
mode), and in addition wheel events are sent to another pipe,
/dev/gpmwheel. imwheel picks up these events, and translates them.
This is not currently supported or needed in Debian.

* URL : http://www.opensky.ca/gnome-vim/
* License : GPL
  Description : Gnome-vim is a Bonobo component which embeds VIM and
implements (part of) the same interface as the
GtkHTML component.

[From the web site]

Gnome-vim is a Bonobo component which embeds VIM and implements (part
of) the same interface as the GtkHTML component. This makes it possible
to use VIM in Evolution, instead of the default HTML editor.

How does it work?

Gnome-vim uses the zvt widget (terminal), and runs a copy of vim inside
of that. It implements many of the methods in the GtkHTML interface by
sending keystrokes to the embedded vim, to cause it to load and save
files, jump to specific parts of the document, etc. Yes, it's a hack. :)

Does it work?

Gnome-vim doesn't yet implement the full interface; many of the methods
are no-ops. However, I've implemented enough that it works quite well
with Evolution, and I use it daily. I haven't implemented the
Bonobo::PersistFile yet, so you can't do File-Save or File-Save as
from the composer menu and have it work. Sending messages, replying,
forwarding, using signatures, saving as drafts and then re-editing, etc.
all work.

I haven't tested gnome-vim with programs other than Evolution, because
I'm not aware of other programs which make use of the GtkHTML component.

[I'd love to see this in Debian if it ever gets working.]

Bug#159573: RFP: eskuel -- MySQL databases administration interface written in PHP.

* URL : http://www.phptools4u.com/scripts/eskuel/?lang=english
* License : GPL v2 http://www.phptools4u.com/divers/cgu.php
  Description : MySQL databases administration interface written in PHP.

eskuel is a MySQL databases administration interface written in PHP. It
allow user to manage simply and fully one or more database without any
advanced knowledge in SQL language.

Like phpMyAdmin, eskuel can backup a table property, export and import
the structure and/or the content of a database. You'll be able to add,
delete one or more records, control and optimize the size of one table
or database, rename or copy datas, in fact you'll can do everything
phpMyAdmin does but better and efficiently.

Better because we tried to create a more attractive interface (just take
a look at the screenshots), more ergonomic (you can quickly do
everything), more cross-browser (no more bugging frames or dhtml) and
customizable (absolutely !).

More efficient because we wanted each request to be the fastest of the
world, a maximum of actions available and we wish that every advanced
SQL user could use eskuel easily. But you'd better have to try eskuel
now ! You'll see exactly what we mean.

Some cool features :
- Query bookmark system
- Context help
- Interface in 2 or 3 columns
- CSV Dump
- Copy and rename table
- Table comment (no more table needed)
- Table check and repair
- Customizable interfaces
- Multi-users capabilities (based on htaccess)

I know this is too similar to phpmyadmin, but the interface is so much nicer,
no frames, that it is really worth it.

seamless. In other words when the pager activates you see your current
desktop appear to zoom out to a point in space where you can see your
other virtual desktops allowing you to select another. The best way to
understand is to try it out and get the full effect!

Fast computer (sorry no 486s...)
OpenGL/Mesa (Hardware acceleration is strongly recommended)

Bug#154626: ITP: renameutils -- A set of programs to make renaming of multiple files easier.

2002-07-28 Thread Amaya
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-07-28
Severity: wishlist

If nobody objects, expect an upload tonight.

* Package name: renameutils
  Version : 0.3.0
  Upstream Author : Oskar Liljeblad [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.student.lu.se/~nbi98oli/
* License : GPL
  Description : A set of programs to make renaming of multiple files easier.

 The file renaming utilities (renameutils for short) are a set of programs
 designed to make renaming of multiple files faster and less cumbersome.

 The file renaming utilities consists of two programs, qmv and imv. The first
 one, qmv, allows files to be renamed by editing their names in any text
 editor. By changing a letter in a text document, a letter in a filename can be
 changed. Since the files are listed after each other, common changes can be
 made more quickly.

 The second program, imv (interactive mv), is trivial but useful when you
 are too lazy to type (or even complete) the name of the file to rename. It
 allows the filename to be edited in the terminal using the GNU readline
 library. (This is also useful when renaming files in Midnight Commander,
 where the whole filename has to be entered again.)

Bug#140959: ITP: libfaketime -- Source for replacement of time funcion

  Description : Source for replacement of time funcion

From the code:
  This is source for replacement of time funcion, which enables you
  to travel in time. It is usable for testing or it should help
  if you have any program which expires in any time period and uses
  shared libraries. I wrote this, because I want to get my old
  expired netscape to work for me.
  Usage:
  set library libfaketime.so to load before any other :
  export LD_PRELOAD=`pwd`/libfaketime.so
  then set env variable FAKE_TIME_DIFF to amount of seconds to
  travel in time (positive goes in past , nogative to future)
  export FAKE_TIME_DIFF=-100
  than you should see with date command where are you in time :-)

I need to contact upstream about licensing, and versioning issues.
Expect an upload in a couple of weeks - I am now marked as being on
vacation (going to GUADEC III tomorrow).

Bug#109220: Gftp Debian Package

2001-12-27 Thread Amaya
Hi, Aurélien!

I have lots of work for you :-

Aurélien Beaujean dijo:
 I correct minors bugs and wishlist items #126134, #123932 and #116619.

On my first, quick look, I have seen that debhelper thinks this is a
native Debian package, wich is wrong. You have to:

$ cp gftp-2.0.10.tar.gz gftp_2.0.10.orig.tar.gz

before you build the package. See the underscore _, it means the name
of the package ends there. The .orig. part means this is what you
downloaded from upstream's site.

On debian/changelog you should state that you are adopting the package
and that it is no longer orphaned. I suggest:

 * New mantainer (Closes: #109220)

On debian/docs, you may want to include:
ABOUT-NLS
THANKS
docs/USERS-GUIDE
which may be useful to the final user.

On debian/menu, you may want to include an entry for the icon. Convert
docs/gftp.png to xpm using whatever app you like (Gimp, Imagemagick's
convert...) and add an Icon entry.

On debian/control, please check:
/usr/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.txt.gz
to see if you can upgrade the package's Standards-Version: to 3.5.6.0.
This document is a simple list of changes that should be made to
packages to make them be up to date. This is not very important at this
moment, but it is a nice thing to do. This file comes with the package
debian-policy. Install it, memorize it ;-) or just use it as reference
and good advice.

On debian/rules, please change export DH_COMPAT=2 to DH_COMPAT=3, as
this is the debhelper version you are using.

If you want, you can send a patch to the upstream developer regarding
the xpm you changed. I personally like it a lot :-)
Also send a patch for the corrected German translation.
First, introduce yourself, explain what you are doing in Debian, and
then warn him that you will be sending him bugs from now on, and include
the patches, he will love you! ;-)

I think this is not a lot of work, and probably [EMAIL PROTECTED] should
be asking you to do all this for your Tasks and Skills and not me, but I
am going to upload the package to Debian, and I want to do it soon,
beacuse I think it will benefit users. IMHO, gftp is the only decent
grafical FTP client, and they deserve the latest version. So I am going
going to upload the best possible package :-)

I keep an CC to the bug number so that it's easy for Gopal to see that
you have been working hard.

I also have to also congratulate you as the package is lintian clean!
Lintian is a wonderful tool :-) that checks for common errors and points
them out.

Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any doubts regarding
all these requests, and you can also find useful comments on the
debian-mentors@lists.debian.org mailing list. People is there to help,
don't be afraid to ask.

Thank you for your work on Debian.

Bug#109220: Gftp Debian Package

2001-12-24 Thread Amaya
Hi, Aurélien  Josip!

Aurélien Beaujean dijo:
 Sorry but i am still not a Debian developper.

You don't have to be one to place an ITA (Intend To Adopt).
If you seriously intend to package and mantain newer versions of gftp,
please place one.

 The way for becoming it is long :) but i hope that i will be at the
 beginning of January.

Josip is your sponsor, he will upload the packages you make to the
archive, while you become a Developer. Users are already placing
wishlist bugs for the new version to be packaged. I have taken a look,
and the package is really nice, there's really not much work to do.
Josip left it in great shape :-)

 The last package i realised is here:
 http://abj.free.fr/gftp-2.0.9/

It would be nice if you made it apt-eable. Hint:
$ cd ¿/var/www/?
$ mkdir -p debian/gftp/
$ mv gftp-2.0.9/* debian/gftp/
$ cd debian/
$ touch overridefile
$ dpkg-scansources ./ overridefile ./  Sources
$ dpkg-scanpackages ./ overridefile ./  Packages
$ gzip -9 Sources
$ gzip -9 Packages

The sources.list entry to use would the look like this:

deb http://abj.free.fr/debian/ ./
deb-src http://abj.free.fr/debian ./

Test this setup and place a note, like a README file with the lines
above.

Please also upgrade the package to the latest upstream version, I have
tested it and it is suitable for packaging. Check if it also fixes any
bugs, I haven't because I don't want to work on this a lot if you are
the one to keep it. Forward upstream the bugs it didn't fix. Send
patches :-)

[This will speed up your Task and Skills]

Once Josip uploads your new packages, get in touch with bug submitters,
ask them if bugs are fixed in the new version. Close the ones that are,
work on the ones that aren't. Start getting the taste of what it means
to work in Debian. A great experience.

Please take this just as advice, I only intend to help.
I hope I can soon say Wellcome to Debian.

Bug#126039: ITP: bash-completion -- bash programmable completion

2001-12-21 Thread Amaya
Britton dijo:
 How is this different than the 'Programmable Completion Builtins'
 already described in the bash documentation?

I find it neat (from the URL provided):

Bash has offered many forms of completion since its inception, including path,
file, user, host and variable completion.

* Path-name completion

This type of completion occurs on the first token of the command line, allowing
you to complete on executable files. Together with file-name completion, it is
the most known and used type. * File-name completion

This allows you to complete on file and directory names at the second and
subsequent token position on the command line. * User-name completion

This allows you to complete on user names by prefixing the token with a ~
(tilde).

* Host-name completion

This allows you to complete on host names by prefixing the token with a @.

* Variable-name completion

This allows you to complete on variable names by prefixing the token with a $.

Programmable completion indefinitely extends the type of completion you can
perform.

Description : PHP web-based e-mail reader over POP3 or IMAP.

Nocc is a Web-based e-mail reader. It uses PHP and a Web server to

Nocc can be used as an e-mail reader and allows you to view, send
messages, manage your mail account. It can view and send MIME

Nocc has low requirements on browser, it uses JavaScript as less as
possible, nearly no frames and even works with Lynx without cookies;
low requirements on Web servers too: you don't need any superuser
privileges to install Nocc and it can work with suEXEC (see Apache
documentation) for increased security.

Nocc was earlier known as Epimail, written in Perl, but was
rewritten with PHP. Anybody is encouraged to contribute.
