Bug#608808: O: pacpl -- multi-purpose audio converter/ripper/tagger script

2011-01-03 Thread Cristian Greco
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I intend to orphan the pacpl package. I don't use it anymore, and it
deserves someone that will care for it better than I have been. A bit
of Perl knowledge won't hurt.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you will have enough time and attention to work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please take it -- see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Description: multi-purpose audio converter/ripper/tagger script
Perl Audio Converter is a tool for converting multiple audio types
from one format to another using various external encoders/decoders.
 .
It supports the following audio formats: AAC, AC3, AIFF, APE, AU, AVR,
BONK, CAF, CDR, FAP, FLA, FLAC, IRCAM, LA, LPAC, M4A, MAT, MAT4, MAT5,
MMF, MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC, MPP, NIST, OFR, OFS, OGG, PAC, PAF, PVF, RA,
RAM, RAW, SD2, SF, SHN, SMP, SND, SPX, TTA, VOC, W64, WAV, WMA, and WV.
 .
It can also convert audio from the following video extensions: RM, RV,
ASF, DivX, MPG, MKV, MPEG, AVI, MOV, OGM, QT, VCD, SVCD, M4V, NSV, NUV,
PSP, SMK, VOB, FLV, and WMV.
 .
Pacpl also includes a CD ripping function with CDDB support, batch
conversion, tag preservation for most supported formats, independent
tag reading/writing, a simple kommander gui and extensions for Dolphin
and Konqueror. You can write your own modules in order to add support
 for new file formats.
 .
See README.Debian for more informations on supported formats.

Hi,

I'm no more interested in packaging this application, mainly because the build

The project is not really up to date with latest libtorrent-rasterbar releases,

retitle 487125 RFA: apt-rdepends -- Recursively lists package dependencies
thanks

Hi,

I'm looking for a new maintainer for the package apt-rdepends, and CCing to the
debian-perl list as I hope someone with good Perl programming skills could be
interested in upstream-maintenance of this script.

Well, for the sake of sincerity, I declared my ITA about one year ago, but I
was really unable to pay so much attention to this package, mostly due to my
lack of Perl skills (as this script is much more and hack than a well-written
piece of software).

I'd be glad if someone from the pkg-perl team could be interested in
maintaining this package, but if I don't receive replies in a reasonable
timeframe, I'll formally (re)orphan it.

During this time I worked together with upstream in order to improve the

particular:

- I advised him to clarify the copyright license of his choice, because

  included a gpl-2.0.txt file;
- I helped him to improve cmake build system, so that all files are

- I advised him to include a README and ChangeLog file, add some notes

Hi Michal,

good to hear from you!

The new 1.1 version contains some changes proposed by me. Package is
well complete, but I've not yet uploaded it just because mentors.d.n has
experiencing some problems. I'm attaching the message I'd send to my ITP
(before posting a RFS) to explain all of my work on that package.

I'd like also to file an ITP about fatrat's plugins, and I've already
discussed this with Lubos (upstream), but the real problems are that 1)
i'm a bit busy with my thesis atm, and 2) I don't know (yet) how to
create a sigle package from more source packages.
In other words, I think it's bad to create three single packages each
one including just one file, but I had no time last weeks to investigate
about repackaging upstream sources on d-policy and dd-reference... so
I'll delay plugin packaging a bit more.

Can I send you the source package via email or should I wait for upload
to mentors?

Thanks,
Cristian

Hi,

work on this package is complete, and I'm going to upload it on mentors
and request for sponsor.

During this time I worked together with upstream in order to improve the
application and also to make it better suitable for Debian packaging. In
particular:

- I asked him to add full copyright notices about all locales files and
  images shipped within the tarball;
- I asked him to improve its cmake build file (just fix a relative path)
in order to correctly build the application in a directory other than
the source root dir (needed to build the package with debian/rules in a
  separate subdir);
- I asked him to release fatrat also in a gzip tarball, better suitable
for Debian, and also to allow directory browsing for its website, in
  order to fix the HTTP 403 error with debian/watch;
- I advised him to write a manpage for fatrat;
- I asked him to fix lintian minor issues.

Regards,
Cristian

Bug#492666: RFP: pacpl -- Converts audio files between popular formats

I'm working on pacpl package:

- I packaged two perl dependencies not yet included in Debian
  (libaudio-musepack-perl and libaudio-wma-perl);
- I sent upstream three patches which would really help Debian packaging
(but they are also useful for other distros): fix Makefile default
installation directories and uninstall target, fix a lintian warning
about manpage, and other small changes. I also convinced him to move
.po translation files from /etc to a better path. He seems very
  responsive.

As now, I'm waiting for upstream to release version 4.0.3 including
these changes.

Cristian

Moreover, to achieve full functionality, h264enc should Depends: on
some other packages:

- lsdvd, vorbis-tools, ogmtools, mkvtoolnix
- gpac, pipeviewer

The former are already packaged for Debian, while the latter are not.

Hi Scott,

I'm working with upstream about boost-1.34/1.35 compatibility and some
changes to library versioning system proposed by me (in order to use
correct interface numbers and library soname). Release 0.13.1 will be
avaliable in a few days, then I'll work on the package.
I'm in contact with Michal Cihar (CCing this message), who would
probably be interested in sponsoring the package.

Hi Scott,
work on the package is well done and now I'm searching for a sponsor.

Please take a look at [1] and give me any kind of feedback about the
package. In particular, I'd like to read some comments about the patch
for building libtorrent-rasterbar against Boost 1.35.0.

It would be useful to know if other clients using this library can be
safely built against Boost 1.35.0. In fact, I think some clients (such
as BTG) need at least a small patch for asio namespace.

As I know, there have been no further discussion about this.

Cristian
