Bug#440607: closed by Boris Pek tehnic...@yandex.ru (Re: RFP: steam-powered -- Valve's steam game content delivery system)
* Michael Gilbert mgilb...@debian.org [2013-02-16 20:28:08 CET]: Since the Steam for Linux is now available [1], this RFP is not useful anymore. Why not? Because your ITP/RFP was about running it through wine. That aside, it makes a lot of sense to close this bugreport through the upload of the native client (as you did) so people tracking this bugreport are directly available of that. It's though still a different ITP/RFP which wasn't updated with the information. The mere question of Why not? doesn't add that information though, it leaves the confusion around. Bug#612296: squeeze backport of bacula 5.0.3
* Bernd Holzinger i...@smart-network-systems.de [2011-04-11 14:55:27 CEST]: At http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=612296 Chuck Short wrote that he would take over the maintainership of the bacula package together with Aníbal Monsalve Salazar. But nothing happened, it's still orphaned. Any plans to update the bacula packages to version 5.0.3 for squeeze? A backport of 5.0.3 can only be produced if the bacula version in testing got updated to said version. Given that there is neither 5.0.3 in unstable nor even in experimental and because John gave up the package for adoption the new maintainers will have to do the upload first, and then someone interested in picking up the backports maintenance of the package has to get found. I myself have a too tight schedule to do all the stuff I do anyway, so I opt out from doing that voluntarily. My relation to the package was work-related (same as with John) and actually dropped from me two years ago. So someone from the upcoming maintenance team would be a perfect fill-in here. Bug#592034: O: mol

If noone steps up to take over the maintenance of MOL in the next week, I will send removal requests to ftpmaster for mol and the related driver packages. A big problem is that MOL does require a patched kernel, i.e. the module can't be built without patching the kernel itself. Are you sure about that? I was able to build mol with module-assistent back in the days, has that seriously changed? There was some work upstream to get MOL into the mainline kernel, but it seems to have died. Maybe Greg Kroah-Hartman would help, but I think the interest in MOL is near zero. I guess part of the missing interest in MOL is the lack of support for OSX 10.5 - it only supports it up to 10.4. I only found out about this after I did finish the upgrade process about two years ago, and since didn't notice any progress on these grounds. Sorry to see it go nevertheless. Was fun. retitle 550817 RFP: gitolite -- standalone, souped-up version of gitosis thanks Hi! I don't want to be considered to be the blocking bit here so I rather turn this into an RFP. Given that upstream isn't reachable anymore (at least the last times I tried) and that it gets harder to keep it compiling with all the autofoo changes I rather would like to see someone else more interested in it maintaining it. Not much, though I am making slow progress, but I'm still not totally sure on how to do some specific aspects to not make it just a package for shipping the scripts and let users run them to their home but instead provide a systemwide sensible setup. I suppose, this is not the final version of the description. Of course it isn't; it's just the short blurb that can be seen on the upstream website about it. Having a full fledged description at ITP stage means that one already started at working on the package - and given that an ITP is meant to be there so that we don't duplicate work and /personally/ the package description is something that I rather *not* think as first of when starting to work on a package sending out the ITP with something final package description is backwards, counter-productive and anachronistic to me. :) Anyway, I think it does not make much sense to base most of the description on a reference to gitosis but, rather, it should specify what *gitolite* actually is. It is at any point possible to interrupt a running SPL script, dump its entire state to disk and resume later on. * feature-rich. SPL has native support for hashes and arrays, regular expressions, object oriented programming, etc. * dynamic. SPL is a fully dynamic language - with all the advantages and disadvantages. * c-style syntax. SPL has a c-style syntax (as well as many other languages such as Java, JavaScript, PHP, slang, etc). so it is easier to get started. * advanced string lexing. SPL allows the programmer to simply embed variables and complex expressions in strings and template files. E.g. this is very important for rapid development of web applications. * well-structured backend. The SPL runtime is not just one big blackbox. Instead, there is a clear and visible seperation of compiler, assembler, optimizer, virtual machine, etc. This makes it possible to easily adapt the library for your special needs when embedding it in your applications. * more, more, more,.. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: papercut Version : 0.9.12 Upstream Author : Joao Prado Maia jpm AT pessoal.org * URL : http://www.papercut.org/ * License : BSD Description : nntp server frontend for webbased forums Papercut is a news server written in Python. Bug#183373: RFA: metakit -- MetaKit embeddable database
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request an adopter for the metakit package. The upstream maintainer doesn't seem to have a clue about soname versioning, and me neither (and I don't want to do one without upstream concensus). For I know next to nothing about soname versioning (beside the things in the library package howto and the libtool infopages, which didn't enlighten me in that respect) I think someone more into libraries would be needed to maintain this package like it deserves. Someone with python/tcl knowledge would be a plus for there could be bindings compiled for those, but I don't think that its a must for maintaining the package (I don't know much about those languages neither). The package description is: MetaKit is an embeddable database library. It lets you build applications which store their data efficiently, in a portable way, and which will not need a runtime installation. In terms of the data model, MetaKit takes the middle ground between RDBMS, OODBMS, and flat-file databases - yet it is quite different from each of them. Thanks to everyone interested, Alfie

It provides multiple desktops, separate menu bars for different applications, and the ability to interact with applications from that menu bar. It does this by sending key sequences to the application, such as ctrl-X or alt-Y. That makes it suitable for main, if I don't misread it. Furthermore I found out that even it looks quite nice it doesn't consume much memory. But find out yourself. I'd also like to notice that due to this package I might package xap too, the X Application Panel. Not decided yet, stay tuned for stand-alone ITP on that topic. If you think that this package isn't really needed and would just pollute our server (although it's really small in size) just let me know, too. Bug#110776: ITP: libapache-stage-perl -- Manage A Staging Directory
Package: wnpp Severity: normal [if you like to reply, Cc me for I'm not subscribed to debian-devel] A staging place is a place where an author of an HTML document checks the look and feel of a document before it's uploaded to the final location. A staging place doesn't need to be a separate server, nor need it be a mirror of the real tree, and not even a tree of symbolic links. A sparse directory tree that holds nothing but the staged files will do. The package is available on every CPAN mirror, as Apache-Stage-1.18.tar.gz, last modified 16. Okt 1997 (this doesn't mean that it's not maintained anymore, but that it's somewhat finished and bugfree). As in the package itself there is no copyright mentioned at all I mailed the maintainer directly and got the following reply: | Sorry, dass ich die Lizenz vergessen habe. Natuerlich under the same | terms as perl, das heisst, wahlweise GPL oder Artistic. Wenn Dir | wohler ist, wenn ich das noch ergaenze, mache ich auch noch ein neues | Release. This means, under the same terms as perl itself, so GPL or Artistic Licence, which you like.
