Have you got any applications to package which depend on this library?
We don't have MythTV in Debian unfortunately.

FWIW, you can do this with the srecord package. Despite the name, it reads
and writes a bunch of hex formats and binary, and can convert between them
and apply various other transformations (address shift, byte swapping)
etc.

Note that I'm not objecting to your ITP, only proposing an existing
solution. hex2bin might be simpler to use, although it could probably be
implemented as a simple wrapper script on-top of srecord, and packaged
with it. You can do a hex to binary conversion with:

srec_cat -Intel -output -Binary

Can you elaborate on EFL? I couldn't find this usage in any other

Bug#535261: RFA: xpdf -- Portable Document Format (PDF) suite

2009-07-01 Thread Hamish Moffatt
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'd like to give away the xpdf package to someone who can care for it.

It's been a while since the last maintainer uploaded so it's a bit of a
mess. The source package uses dpatch and should be migrated to a VCS
really as we have a few ongoing differences from upstream.

etherpuppet doesn't sound like a tunnel or VPN tool at all - it seems to
be a mirroring tool for diagnostic purposes.

I'm confused about how TUN/TAP are involved though. If I'm routing
packets between two Ethernet interfaces, can I have them copied to a
third?

Web-based RSS (or feed) reader would be more accurate.
Also upstream refers to it mostly as tt-rss, which I think would
therefore be a more recognisable package name.

Will you need a sponsor? I have been using tt-rss for over a year so I
am interested in a package.

You might wish to investigate python-serial instead (already in Debian)
which appears to do exactly the same thing. It supports Windows and
POSIX platforms.

IMHO universal/multi-platform isn't actually an interesting property of
a Debian package.

Policy doesn't dictate the format of an ITP message though, or even a
requirement to submit one. This particular ITP doesn't need to explain
what qmail is (the target audience already knows) and the ITP isn't
intended to be a review of the final descriptions.

You can close the -dev and -utils bugs and retitle the libdmtx0 bug to
"ITP: libdmtx". See http://bugs.debian.org/ for instructions on how to
use the control interface to achieve this.

Typically the -dev package should be just libdmtx-dev, unless you
anticipate that it will be necessary to have both libdmtx0-dev and
libdmtx1-dev in the archive at the same time in the future. This may be
true for -utils also.

However, the DOS clients won't attach to a server as the default
server unless they can find the standard problems (eg LOGIN) in
the SYS:PUBLIC directory. Is there a free replacement for those?
I think there was some work on one as part of mars, a few years
ago anyway.

The only free client for NetWare is the linux kernel itself.
I suppose mars qualifies for main for this reason. Otherwise...?

Err. I guess you are packaging an implementation rather than a protocol
(I'm not sure how you would package a protocol). I think you may need to
improve your description with that in mind.

s/protocol/server/ for example.

Why is it useful to fetch this documentation and install it through a

That is surprising given that it is looking for certain TCP or UDP

There are other interfaces where it might be useful especially ppp.

Or storebackup?

(Actually, storebackup's one-line description doesn't really hint at
this functionality. But I'm using it to create daily snapshots of remote
servers over smbfs and nfs, using hard links to conserve space. It
offers sliding window; you can tell it to keep a month of backups, and
then weekly after that for 6 months, then monthly etc.)

Written in Perl, fwiw (not much I hope).

Hi,

Why don't you let the maintainer of the existing 'lopster' package
maintain lopster2? Have you discussed it with him?

I have been the victim of new-version-package-hijacking in the past and
I find it quite rude. However it's OK if you have discussed it with the

I just packaged podracer last week, which is a derivative of bashpodder.
Is there any benefit to having both?

The podracer license is MIT/BSD-style, so if the bashpodder license is

OK. (The description didn't mention that it was graphical.)

libexif already has some widgets I see. Pity that libkexif couldn't be
one more:

libexif-dev - The EXIF library allows you to parse an EXIF file
(development files)
libexif-gtk-dev - Library providing GTK+ widgets to display/edit EXIF
tags (development files)
libexif-gtk4 - Library providing GTK+ widgets to display/edit EXIF tags
libexif-ruby - EXIF tag parsing Library for ruby (dummy package)
libexif-ruby1.6 - EXIF tag parsing Library for ruby1.6
libexif-ruby1.8 - EXIF tag parsing Library for ruby1.8
libexif10 - The EXIF library allows you to parse an EXIF file

Hi,

How will this be different from the existing package nec?
Your package name is different but your description is identical!

Perhaps it's because of C++/Python rather than the original FORTRAN.
This must translate into some sort of benefit to the end-user that could
be listed in the description.

Cool, thanks for packaging this. I started doing it locally but I
haven't kept up with the new Python policy etc. I need it for an
application I want to write.

I emailed Thom May about the Ubuntu package a few months back, as he's a
Debian developer as well and I wanted to find out if he would maintain
the package for Debian. He seemed to have lost interest and was happy
for someone else to take it up for Debian.

Note that upstream appears to be non-existent and there's a lot of
functionality missing I think.

Indeed. I think OSS is officially in Python now, but of course OSS is
obselete so an ALSA API in the official Python would be great. :)

It would be useful to include some of the module's description in a
longer description, eg to explain why you would want to convert
Makefile.PL to Build.PL.

http://search.cpan.org/src/SCHUBIGER/Module-Build-Convert-0.42/README
says:

DESCRIPTION
"ExtUtils::MakeMaker" has been a de-facto standard for the common
distribution of Perl modules; "Module::Build" is expected to supersede
"ExtUtils::MakeMaker" in some time (part of the Perl core as of 5.10?)

The transition takes place slowly, as the converting process manually
achieved is yet an uncommon practice. The Module::Build::Convert
Makefile.PL parser is intended to ease the transition process.

Hi Sebastion,

I gather this is something to do with image/video processing. Could you
mention this in the short description or at least the first paragraph of
the long?

I admit that I had absolutely no idea what the context was until the
last sentence. Even having realized that I have no idea whether I would
want to try the package...

thanks
