There was already an ITP for this (#637849) and it was cancelled due to
the planned removal of Python 2.6.

Isn't this what the libjson-perl package already in the archive is?

Sure, but that's a distinction for the names of the binary packages not

Bug#454323: RFA: vim-latexsuite

2007-12-04 Thread James Vega
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The package is currently maintained under the Package Vim Maintainers
umbrella but there's no one that's really giving it the proper attention
it needs. There are an increasing number of bugs, the scripts are
fairly complex, and upstream doesn't seem to be very active.

The package description is:
vim-latexsuite attempts to provide a comprehensive set of tools to view,
edit and compile LaTeX documents in Vim. Together, they provide tools starting
from macros to speed up editing LaTeX documents to functions for forward
 searching .dvi documents.
 .
This package also provides help to LaTeX in Vim.

Bug#412637: RFA: hwinfo -- Hardware identification system

It is still up for adoption.

> How dificult/easy is it to maintain?

The packaging is fairly simple. The main reason I'm giving it up is
simply lack of time for Debian and this is the package I maintain which
interests me the least.

As for the upstream code, knowledge of C and possibly some assembly
(e.g., #412713 is a problem with some assembly on s390) would be needed.
It would also be useful to have a variety of hardware to test hwinfo's
reports.

It's also worth noting that hwinfo is developed for SuSE which
specifically patches their kernel to include some code which was
dropped from the official Linux kernel some time ago. This is the
reason for the kbd.c-tiocgdev_undefined patch in the Debian packaging.
I'm not sure if there are other kernel patches SuSE uses which may cause
further problems down the line.

The short description should be much shorter. Simply "a java-based
framework for a continuous build process" would probably do the job.
The rest should be moved into the long description.

This URL is actually incorrect. The trailing slash causes a 404. It
should just be <http://manishrjain.googlepages.com/flickrfs>.

wontfix for now. I'll revisit this if the situation changes in the

I've already attempted to do so a couple of times. The current upstream
(Herbert) is using GPL for his modifications to the libsocket++ code.
The problem is with the code the original upstream author wrote. His
contact info is out of date and I have yet to get a response from
Herbert about this issue or whether he has up-to-date contact info for
the original upstream.

If I'm unable to contact the original upstream for

The socket++ library defines a family of C++ classes that can be used more
effectively than directly calling the underlying low-level system functions.
One distinct advantage of the socket++ is that it has the same interface as
that of the iostream so that the users can perform type-safe input output.
