Bug#530748: ITP: uzbl -- A keyboard controlled browser based on Webkit

2009-09-09 Thread Luca Bruno
As the report was quite stagnating for months, I took the occasion to
put up a git repo under alioth collab-maint[0]. Can you/we please
converge on that?

As I don't know which workflow you prefer, I just pushed pristine-tar
and bare-bone upstream sources.

If you want, I'm open to co-maintainership or just plain sponsorship
(if lamby isn't already on that); just let me aware of how it
proceeds ;)

Cheers, Luca

Fine :).
Please note that ubuntu already ships a packaged one,
see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chm2pdf/.
I've Cc:ed here the ubuntu maintainer (hi Steve), can you please work
together on a common package for debian?
I've tried Steve's package and it looks quite well, even if I'm not

I suggest you both to put it in a shared revision control system.

git clone http://git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/ksplice.git
or http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/ksplice.git;a=summary

On my repo[1] you can find both source package[2] and i386 binary[3].
I'm in search of co-maintainer, as I'm not sure about how much time I
can spend alone behind this package (someone with good kernel knowledge
would be preferred :).

I will wait a couple of days to find interested collaborators, before
retitling to ITP and uploading to unstable.

Daniel replied saying that this package is welcome in the
forensic repo. I'm quite interested in this package too, so I'd either
suggest putting it there or in collab-maint (I personally prefer git).

What's particular about that? It's a normal GPLv2 file with a
third-party author. You just have to give him his credit.
See http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat for more complex
examples.

Anyway I still strongly object to your choice of having a -dbg package
for a simple single binary package. As I've already said, I won't
upload such a package in debian (unless I'm proved wrong or got a very
rational motivation, of course :).

GPhotoFS is a filesystem client based on libgphoto2 that exposes
supported cameras as filesystems; while some cameras implement the
USB Mass Storage class and already appear as filesystems (making
this program redundant), many use the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP)
or some other custom protocol. But as long as the camera is supported
by libgphoto2, it can be mounted as a filesystem using this program.

Hash: SHA1

  Version : 0.3.1

* URL : http://www.pyamf.org/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Action Message Format support for Python

[Directly taken from upstream web, tweak as needed]

PyAMF provides Action Message Format (AMF) support for Python
that is compatible with the Flash Player. It includes integration
with Python web frameworks like Django, Pylons, Twisted, and more.

The Adobe Integrated Runtime and Flash Player use AMF to communicate
between an application and a remote server. AMF encodes remote
procedure calls (RPC) into a compact binary representation that
can be transferred over HTTP/HTTPS or the RTMP/RTMPS protocol.
Objects and data values are serialized into this binary format,
which increases performance, allowing applications to load data up
to 10 times faster than with text-based formats such as XML or SOAP.

AMF 3, the default serialization for ActionScript 3.0, provides
various advantages over AMF0, which is used for ActionScript 1.0
and 2.0. AMF 3 sends data over the network more efficiently than AMF 0.
AMF 3 supports sending int and uint objects as integers and supports
data types that are available only in ActionScript 3.0, such as
ByteArray, ArrayCollection, and IExternalizable.

Bug#448733: 0.8.6 missing

2007-11-02 Thread Luca Bruno
Anyway it seems that latest dillo v0.8.6 is available upstream but not
yet packaged, so it should be worthwhile to upload it (as the latest
gtk1 version) and perhaps going through the list of bugs to forward
upstream available patches.

Moreover, I'm seeing some activities recently on the dillo2 branch,
which could mean that this project is not really and completely dead.

thanks

As I haven't seen any progress on this package in almost 5 months, I'm
now going to take over this ITP.

I've already a package done, which should be ok wrt to copyright and
building. You can find the debian dir under my git repo:
https://git.unstable.it/?p=packages.git;a=shortlog;h=nemiver
If needed, I can provide already-built package for any test.

If I don't get any answer before next week, I will upload this package
to unstable on Monday.

I'd really like to comaintain it with you, so please let me know if
you want and I'll give you access to that repo.

Cheers, Luca

I'd like to take over this package. It's a shame that it was
in badly shape and not shipped with etch.
I'll look to see if it is better suited for volatile than main
(beta version, I mean).

Anyway co-maintainers are, as always, welcome; if Anand Kumria

I'm still in NM (I hope to get my account activated soon), so I
will need a temporary sponsor for this.

It is my understanding that latest binutils
source already contains code for msp430 (gas/config/tc-msp430.c and
such).

Thus, I think this one bug could be just addressed adding this family to
the multiarch flavor of binutils, without requiring a new sourceful
package.
Anyway, I'm not yet so much skilled in multiarch tricks, and I
may as well be plainly wrong in this assumption.

So I'm Cc:ing here binutils maintainers for opinions on this.
Daniel, Matthias can you please enlighten us on this? If doable, I'll
proceed reassigning #329631 to binutils.

TIA, Luca

From a rapid inspection, it looks like bake has no package depending or
build-depending on it. It also has a very low popcon score[0] and no
upstream in the last 5 years, and almost (all?) these features can
achieved with other build tools.

Given these details, I'd say that bake didn't fit well in the natural
evolution of make-like tools, and has been superseded by other methods.
Thus, I'd propose its removal.
OTOH I acknowledge the importance of the availability of build helper,
so if you can list a bunch of (not dead) projects depending on it,
it'll be surely enough to keep it.

Hi,
I'm fine to test and sponsor your patches for #589551.
As it is a QA RC-fixing upload, I prefer it to contain just minimal
changes to fix this bug (eg. the current patch) and have it sorted out
soon, leaving minor cosmetic ones for later.
Also, given that this is a orphaned package, would you mind talking

Description : a safe, concurrent, practical language

 Rust is a curly-brace, block-structured expression language.
It visually resembles the C language family, but differs significantly
in syntactic and semantic details. Its design is oriented toward
concerns of "programming in the large", that is, of creating and
maintaining boundaries - both abstract and operational - that
preserve large-system integrity, availability and concurrency.
 .
It supports a mixture of imperative procedural, concurrent actor,
object-oriented and pure functional styles. Rust also supports
generic programming and metaprogramming, in both static and
 dynamic styles.

Having a bunch of packages that strictly depend on it, I could help
with occasional contributions (mostly from time to time).
Please let me know once you have settled maintenance details with all
interested parties.

Have you seen cutycapt[0] already? I see no advantages in having

NDPMon, Neighbor Discovery Protocol Monitor, is a tool working with ICMPv6

in some cases by sending an email report.

Is there something already in the archive which is able to do this kind of

Bug#689207: rust: changing back from ITP to RFP

2013-08-26 Thread Luca BRUNO
> This is an automatic email to change the status of rust back from ITP
> (Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug
> hasn't seen any activity during the last 10 months.

It's a bit unfortunate that this hijack happened quite quickly, as
background work on rust is ongoing.

Me and Tom Lee started working upstream to iron out some bits
(but it's still a long way), and Sylvestre too recently expressed
interest.

I'm currently trying to get libuv in sync, get it in debian and out of
rust source. LLVM is going to be next big beast after that. libuv is
currently stuck in NEW [0] and may not be currently usable as-is: it
will be probably bundled for some time.

With the fedora packager, we started noting down major issues with
current rust [1].

I have an initial packaging for 0.6/0.7 available on collab-maint [2],
and some monolithic binaries [3]. However I believe rust is still far
from being in a releasable state for Debian and much stuff has to
be discussed wrt. libraries ABI, runtime/compiler split, bootstrapping,
cross-arch, etc.

As a sidenote, I'm still working on both sides to get a proper package
in the archive.

Cheers, Luca

Bug#689207: rust: changing back from ITP to RFP

2014-02-13 Thread Luca BRUNO
Sylvestre Ledru wrote:

> Yes, Luca is touch with ftp master regarding the bootstrap issue, we
> are discussing with upstream on the llvm patches
> and we have the agreement from Mozilla GSoC admin to propose a gsoc on
> the packaging of rust.

I was planning to send a status update as soon as I got a quotable mail
from ftp-masters, but this is taking some time so here's a partial
summary.

Rust packaging is currently technically feasible (see the many PPA or
unofficial debs) but some legal/policy issues have to be ironed before
hitting NEW. I'm collecting issues and drafts at
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging

The main one is the bootstrapping phase, for which I have sent a mail
on 07/02/14 to ftp-masters, asking for a position on the proposals at
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging/Bootstrap
I'm currently waiting for a return on this.

The other (secondary) issue is the libraries bundling, as described in
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging/Unbundling
jemalloc is no more there, libuv is mostly synched (I was waiting for
an imminent 0.12, but I won't hold my breathe anymore), gyp is a minor
build annoyance, but LLVM is a big beast. For the latter, upstream is
trying to catch up upstream on x86 for 1.0 (but not a blocker):
https://github.com/mozilla/rust/wiki/Meeting-weekly-2014-02-04#wiki-llvm
While this is an annoyance, it won't block NEW review (assuming all the
copyrights are well in place) and (AFAICT) won't have an impact for
-security till when we hit testing/stable (which I still consider
premature now).

Other items just listed in the above page are in a flux:
* soname stability is much better now after[0], but I
feel that the dynamic-vs-linking discussion is not yet written in
  stone.
* rustpkg and dpkg integration is not yet there, as rustpkg was
  recently scrapped[1].
* I don't plan to touch multi-arch and cross-build until things are a
  bit more stable.
* Co-installation of several versions is an open design point. PPA
packages can already do that and I'd like to have it, but I like to
have a proper runtime-vs-compiler split in place before going there.
I still have to get in touch with PPA author.

That's mostly it. I'll CC the ftp-masters reply here as soon as I get
it.

«Note that the standalone udhcp client/server is not maintained anymore.

It looks like this source package could be dropped, if QA team wants.

providing binary packages for this, if feasible.

Bug#504222: RFP: htmlcxx -- htmlcxx is a simple non-validating html parser library for C++

2008-11-01 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: htmlcxx
  Version : 0.83
  Upstream Author : Davi Reis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://htmlcxx.sourceforge.net/
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : htmlcxx is a simple non-validating html parser library for
C++

htmlcxx is a simple non-validating css1 and html parser for C++. Although
there are several other html parsers available, htmlcxx has some
characteristics that make it unique:

* STL like navigation of DOM tree, using excelent's tree.hh library from
  Kasper Peeters
* It is possible to reproduce exactly, character by character, the
original document from the parse tree
* Bundled css parser
* Optional parsing of attributes
* C++ code that looks like C++ (not so true anymore)
* Offsets of tags/elements in the original document are stored in the
nodes of the DOM tree

The parsing politics of htmlcxx were created trying to mimic mozilla
firefox (http://www.mozilla.org) behavior. So you should expect parse trees
similar to those create by firefox. However, differently from firefox,
htmlcxx does not insert non-existent stuff in your html. Therefore,
serializing the DOM tree gives exactly the same bytes contained in the
original HTML document.

Salvatore Bonaccorso scrisse:

I'm not really in favor of this ITP, as it mainly seems as a
wring reaction to the latex extension not working properly.

All main inkscape extensions are maintained within the upstream repo as
the extension interface is used to change a lot between each release,
and so they could broke often. You should talk to textext upstream to
better integrate with inkscape upstream.

What is surely missing is a better separation of inkscape core and all
other extensions, which was already proposed for 0.47 but not yet
realized.

I definitely would not welcome a one-package-per-extension policy, that
is the field where your package is currently going.

Thus I'm suggesting you to drop this ITP, work with Wolfram (which
currently seems a bit busy) to fix the other two related bugs, suggest
your upstream to get in touch with Inkscape developers to integrate the
extension avoiding duplicate code and maybe start discussing a better
extensions packaging (which would be really appreciate, IMHO).

Bug#516881: nc6 -- TCP/IP swiss army knife with IPv6 support

2009-03-14 Thread Luca Bruno
Hi Guillame,
what are the features strictly relevant to nc6 over other advanced
conections tools (eg. socat), to justify the existence of a separate
package?
If it only add ipv6 support and "an enhanced support for UDP", I would
really say that socat already does this (and much more!).

Given that upstream seems dead and there's a great mess with various
netcat flavors, wouldn't be better to coordinate with other developers
to try porting the v6 patch to the mainstream flavors and drop this
package?

So, it looks like the original intent of ipv6-support is already there
for alternatives, still nc6 has some interesting options. The
optimum would be to port them to nc-openbsd/socat, so that nc6 will
complete its scope.
I'll try to get in touch with related upstream developer and ask them
to cordinate the integration. I won't have time now to directly produce
patches, so I hope someone can keep the job soon.

In the meantime, nc6 could be kept in the archive as a pro-tempore
solution, if you're still interested in it.

It would be nice, but last time I tried upstream was tracking libgit2 from
master: https://github.com/alexcrichton/git2-rs/pull/80

Things may have changed in the meanwhile, I did not re-assess since then.

Ciao, Luca

Bug#709480: ITP: libuv -- asynchronous event notification library

* Package name: libuv
  Version : 0.11.3
  Upstream Author : Ben Noordhuis
* URL : https://github.com/joyent/libuv
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: C
Description : asynchronous event notification library

Libuv is the asynchronous library behind Node.js. Very similar to libevent or
libev,
it provides the main elements for event driven systems: watching and waiting
for availability in a set of sockets, and some other events like timers or
asynchronous messages. However, libuv also comes with some other extras like:
 * files watchers and asynchronous operations
 * a portable TCP and UDP API, as well as asynchronous DNS resolution
 * processes and threads management, and a portable inter-process
communications mechanism, with pipes and work queues
 * a plugins mechanism for loading libraries dynamically
 * interface with external libraries that also need to access the I/O

This is going to be maintained within the javascript team.

Bug#810602: ITP: argon2 -- memory-hard hashing function

2016-01-10 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Luca Bruno

* Package name: argon2
  Version : 0~20151206-1
Upstream Author : D. Dinu, D. Khovratovich et al.
* URL : https://github.com/P-H-C/phc-winner-argon2
* License : CC0
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : memory-hard hashing function

Argon2 is a password-hashing function that can be used to hash passwords
for credential storage, key derivation, or other applications.
 .
There are two main versions of Argon2: Argon2i and Argon2d.
Argon2i is the safest against side-channel attacks, while Argon2d provides
the highest resistance against GPU cracking attacks.
 .
Argon2i and Argon2d are parametrized by:
  * A time cost, which defines the amount of computation realized and
therefore the execution time, given in number of iterations
  * A memory cost, which defines the memory usage, given in kibibytes
  * A parallelism degree, which defines the number of parallel threads

The description should probably be reworded a bit to stress that this is the
outcome of the https://password-hashing.net/ competition.

Apologies for not seeing/reacting to this bug earlier.
This package is effectively an early experimental/forked toolchain,
which used to live at https://sourceforge.net/projects/mspgcc/.
It has become obsolete in the meanwhile (in favor of plain upstream
project) and is not developed anymore.
Instead of new adoption, it would be better to drop it from
Debian at this point. I'll proceed with a removal request.

Cheers, Luca
