  Version : 4.0.4
  Upstream Author : Yehuda Katz
* URL : http://www.handlebarsjs.com/

  Programming Lang: JavaScript
  Description : semantic templating engine

Handlebars templates look like regular HTML, with embedded handlebars
expressions. It has a syntax similar to the Mustache templating language.
 .
This package contains the runtime for NodeJS.

I realise there are existing ``libjs-handlebars`` and
``libjs-handlebars.runtime`` packages in the archive. They come from
``ruby-handlebars-assets``, which I assume embeds its own copy. This will not
conflict with that package, but to reduce archive duplication I'll coordinate
with the Ruby team and that package's maintainer.

Upstream Author : Dan Wheeler <d...@dropbox.com>
* URL : https://github.com/dropbox/zxcvbn

  Programming Lang: JavaScript
Description : JavaScript password strength estimator

zxcvbn is a password strength estimator inspired by password crackers.
Through pattern matching and conservative entropy calculations, it
recognizes and weighs 10k common passwords, common names and surnames
according to US census data, popular English words, and other common
patterns like dates, repeats (aaa), sequences (abcd), keyboard patterns
(qwertyuiop), and l33t speak.

Motiviation for the design can be found detailed at:
   <http://tech.dropbox.com/?p=165>

zxcvbn detects and supports CommonJS (node, browserify) and AMD
(RequireJS). In the absence of those, it adds a single function
zxcvbn() to the global namespace.

NB: This is my first time packaging a JavaScript/AMD/Node package,
so I will probably be reaching out to the Debian JS maintainers for
help :)

My apologies, I missed Tom's earlier message.

There is quite a bit of development going on in the upstream github
 repository for Debian packaging, see
https://github.com/etsy/statsd/tree/master/debian . The package is not
perfectly up to Debian's standards, but works quite well and the few
remaining issues could easily be fixed. I have CCed the most recent
authors in that directory, I think some collaboration between Debian and
the upstream repository would help a lot.

How can we proceed with this ITP? Can I help in any way? Unfortunately
I'm not a DD (just a DM), so I cannot sponsor any work on this package.

Packaging for statsd has been prepared and is being used internally at
my employers' site. I'll look into reconciling that with upstream's
packaging in the next week or two.

Generally, even when upstream is participating in the packaging process
we try to have separate repositories if for no other reason than it
makes it easier to transition if upstream's involvement changes.

Is distributing software that pretends it is secure a good idea?

This provides integrity protection and last-mile confidentiality to
images, thus preventing a local network attacker from seeing the images
you request (allowing for possible disclosure of the content you're
viewing) or changing their content (to misinform, confuse, or shock).

It of course does not prevent an attacker from modifying the content or
noticing its access if the attacker is in the path between your
datacentre and the image source.

However, even in this case, it provides some security insofar as it
may prevent the attacker from knowing who is accessing the image.

Bug#618774: ITP: cctools -- cooperative computing tools

I see that your package is already in Debian under the name 'chipw'. The

cctools is not chipw; cctools and chipw are both level editors for the
same game, but are different software.

cctools was initially released in 2003 (see
http://replay.waybackmachine.org/20031023153231/http://www.freewebs.com/cctools/news.htm),
so it also has an 8-year history :)

That aside, I didn't file a WNPP bug for cctools (that I could recall or
find), and am not currently working on packaging for the same. I don't
have a problem with you taking the source name cctools, I could use
something like cctools-editor for the source package name if needed.

Regarding the binary package names I don't have a strong opinion. Maybe
we can both use more verbose names to disambiguate the software better.

Sure.

Description : one-time passwords implementation for PAM

otpasswd consists of a pam module and an user utility. With the
utility user manages his state file: creates his KEY, manages flags
and prints passcards with one-time passwords.

PAM module enables (for example) OpenSSH to do an authentication using
one-time password with the information from user state file.

The program is written in C (C99) and implements OTP as described in
Perfect Paper Passwords description of which can be found here
https://www.grc.com/ppp.htm
This program also kind of extends this idea with salt.

Unlike OPIE, otpasswd uses modern hashing algotrithms and supports offline

A compare/contrast with the libpam-otpw package would also be
 interesting.

I might not be the best person to do this, so I've CC'd the otpasswd-talk
discussion list to solicit better explanations.

otpasswd allows both the use of a optional (via ~/.otpasswd) and global
policy-enforced system. In the global system, it would be SGID (SUID as
well?) to a shared otpasswd user. Via such a centralized database, the
systems administrator can prevent passcard reuse as well as length
requirements etc. From what I've such an architecture makes it easier to use
one-time-passwords on a LDAP backend as well, but I haven't tried it.

otpasswd, when set to be PPP-compatible, also allows interoperability with a
variety of client applications https://www.grc.com/ppp/software.htm.

That said, I have not studied OTPW nor the security of otpasswd closely, and
would advise anybody making a choice between the two to perform their own
research.

Bug#500648: Status of Alice

2009-01-07 Thread Luke Faraone
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

A current roadblock with Alice (er... Carol, depending on whether
the ftpmasters consider the license free or not) packaging is that
there is no Linux source available. According to upstream, better
linux support will be forthcoming with the 3.0 release of Alice this
Spring.

As such, I'm holding off with an attempt to package until upstream
starts offering source.
