Bug#1024547: ITP: sparrow -- Bitcoin wallet with a focus on privacy and usability

2022-12-15 Thread Craig Raw
I would appreciate some guidance on how to proceed. The documentation says
"package the software, upload it and close this bug once the package has been
installed". The software is already available in the .deb format for amd64 and
arm64 architectures:

https://github.com/sparrowwallet/sparrow/releases/download/1.7.1/sparrow_1.7.1-1_amd64.deb
https://github.com/sparrowwallet/sparrow/releases/download/1.7.1/sparrow_1.7.1-1_arm64.deb

I assume the next step is to upload these two files, but I'm uncertain of where
or how to do this.

Thanks,
Craig

Yes - apart from the listed email address in the package, there is also a
community managed Telegram group at https://t.me/SparrowWallet and of course
the Github issues page, both linked from the application Help menu. All are
actively monitored.

It's worth noting as well that Sparrow hasn't had a security issue in the now
2+ years since it was first released. It had been the subject of external code
review and build reproducibility is regularly checked by external parties.

https://sparrowwallet.com/downloads/) as part of the standard release process.
I intend to maintain this package going forward.

Bug#961021: ITP: python-easysnmp -- A blazingly fast and Pythonic SNMP library based on the official Net-SNMP bindings

You could have also said the net-snmp python bindings were terrible
and deserved to be deleted, but that's a kinder way of putting it.
Really they suffered from bit-rot and had a lot of important features
missing, python 3 being the most obvious one.

I actually liked the API he used, but nothing is simple about SNMP.

SNMP projects seem to be hard to maintain. It's a fiddly protocol for sure.

Anyway, if you need any help with the net-snmp library or just someone
to bounce ideas off, I'm here. I don't want to maintain easysnmp but
willing to help when it's needed.

Hopefully, the upstream issues get sorted! Until we have more snmp
libraries than IRC clients I say more the merrier!

This is required for testing the Mastodon python module which
I am also going to ITP.

Bug#729203: Still Not Uploaded

2014-07-03 Thread David L. Craig
Having discovered this bug report and subsequently absorbing
it, I cloned the repository, built the debs, and installed
them into my primary Sid box. Now I need to track the repo.

I didn't see why this package has still not been uploaded.
Perhaps I need to reread the report.

Nonetheless, all the objections to the state of ffmpeg in
Debian remain unaddressed. This is, to me, egregious.
Even if ffmpeg is the only project to be so abused by Debian,
that by itself is sufficient to discredit the distribution
as a whole. The value-add of all the members of the team
can be rendered useless for some installations by the
handling of even one important component. Having begun with
release 1.0^H1 so long ago, I may have arrived at the point
of looking elsewhere for my primary GNU/Linux distro.

Considering top now has numa extensions (in the upstream git, so in the
next release) is it neccessary to have another top? I'm not sure what
this one does differently but if it is a field or two it might be better
to integrate it into top proper.

Bug#673203: Hmmm... Maybe

2012-07-22 Thread David L. Craig
Maybe it's time to become a DD. I've been unable to scare up a job in
IT for a long time now so maybe it's time to plan to just live on Social
Security benefits (if you call that living) and invest my copious free
time into the community.

I started with Debian at version 1.0^H1 (Linux Counter number 2419) and
have been using Audacity and a little Ardour and JACK, but not much snd.
I'm mostly an OS internals kind of guy. Website at
http://www.radix.net/~dlc if you're interested. At the moment I just
got my hand-me-down Gigabyte Intel quad-core 8 GB box with a GeForce
6600 NV43 adapter upgraded to Linux Mint XFCE Maya with the nvidia
driver and was starting to look at building Wheeze from source optimized
for performance in another partition. I also have an Acer Aspire One 1
GB Atom netbook about to get the Maya treatment.

What do you think about me getting involved with maintaining the snd
debs? How much time do you think this is going to require?

Bug#595817: ITP: libpam-ssh-agent -- PAM module providing authentication via ssh-agent

2010-09-28 Thread Craig Box
So Alban, what do you think?

Bug#595817: ITP: libpam-ssh-agent -- PAM module providing authentication via ssh-agent

2010-09-10 Thread Craig Box
> How is it different from libpam-ssh?

libpam-ssh lets you log into a local console (terminal, GDM, etc) with
an SSH passphrase that unlocks your local private key. It then starts
an SSH agent and adds your key to it.

libpam-ssh-agent allows you to SSH to a machine with agent forwarding,
and use the agent to authorise PAM transactions, most notably sudo.
The upshot of this is that I can go:

  machine1:~$ ssh -A machine2
  machine2:~$ sudo su -
  machine2:/ #

I am not prompted for a password to sudo, because libpam-ssh-agent
authorises me against my forwarded agent. If I do not have agent
forwarding, PAM will follow its usual chain of methods for asking for
a credential, generally asking for a password:

  machine1:~$ ssh machine2
  machine2:~$ sudo su -
  Password:

> How will it interact with ssh-agent which starts from Xsession.d/?

If you start your own SSH agent, and add your private key, a standard
configuration would be to use this PAM module to allow you to sudo
with your agent (no password), the same way you could then SSH to
other servers with your agent (no password).

Bug#543852: Maintaining ncurses

2010-01-07 Thread Craig Small
Hello,
I just recently noticed that ncurses has been orphaned for a few
months. There were a few people saying they were willing to help out
with it which is great. I've not seen much since September.

This is really for if noone is doing anything much with ncurses at the
moment, if that's the case. I'll adopt the package and maintain it. I
would like some help and make it a team effort but it seems it needs
someone to drive it and I can do that.

Again, if someone is already doing this on the quiet, then well done and
I'll leave you to it. If not, I'll start the project up on alioth.
My preference is svn over git (purely because I'm used to it) but if
there are people who are willing to help and have a strong preference to
git I'll use that.

I CC'ed the three people mentioned in the ITO bug report, but there may
be others involved too. If I hear nothing much soon I'll go and adopt it
anyhow.

Bug#505255: [needs-packaging] geoclue

2008-11-10 Thread Craig Andrews
Severity: wishlist
package: wnpp
URL: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/GeoClue

GeoClue - The Geoinformation Service
Geoclue is a modular geoinformation service built on top of the D-Bus
messaging system. The goal of the Geoclue project is to make creating
location-aware applications as simple as possible.
Geoclue is developed for Linux, but should be portable to any platform
that uses D-Bus.
Geoclue defines a set of geoinformation APIs, but it also includes some
providers that implement those APIs. Here is a list of services provided
through Geoclue with the currently included implementations:

a) Position
gpsd, gypsy, hostip, plazes, gsmloc
b) Address
hostip, plazes, manual, localnet
c) Velocity
gpsd, gypsy
d) Geocode
geonames, yahoo
e) ReverseGeocode
geonames

Geoclue source code contains:

* D-Bus definitions for the above APIs
* C bindings for Geoclue clients
* C bindings for data providers
* a set of provider implementations
* (experimental) master provider implementation.

Possible data sources
* Google Maps Geocoding API -- License says "only for showing places
on Google Maps"
* Wigle.net-- WIFI location database (10 million networks). License
requires users to login.
* geocoder.us -- geocoder for the USA (TIGER data)
* gsmloc-provider could easily get the GSM information using AT
commands on the OpenMoko platform
* We really should have a free network location database (like
gsmloc.org, but for WLAN, GSM, BT, ethernet gateway, ..
  o What about opencellid?

Description : Client to connect to IPv6 tunnel brokers

TSP is a control protocol used to establish and maintain static tunnels.
The Gateway6 client (gw6c) is used on the host computer to connect to a
tunnel broker using the TSP protocol and to get the information for its
tunnel. When it receives the information for the tunnel, the Gateway6
client creates the static tunnel on its operating system.

Hexaco have "helpfully" mixed their daemon code with their GUI code
which has some ugly license and is completely useless for non-windows
systems anyway. The source package will be fixed so it only has the
BSD licensed daemon code.

Bug#349833: Shipping Clerk - flexible time work-at-home opening

2007-09-30 Thread Craig

Our company is looking for energetic and accountable individuals to occupy
Shipping Clerk positions throughout the USA. These vacancies are entirely
home-based and do not require any travel or relocation. They are also
suitable for students and senior citizens who are able to dedicate up to
three business hours per day to their duties. No special qualifications are
required, although previous shipping or customer service experience is a
plus. We are an international company providing mail/internet order
opportunities for a global clientele since 1997. We are based in Russia, and
also have offices in Latvia and Kazakhstan. Our business provides
online/Online Order facilities for those who are unable to benefit from the
convenience of e-commerce due to lack of a banking relationship with an
internationally recognized bank or because major online vendors will not
ship to their location. We have domestic purchasing agents who place the
orders on behalf of our clients, and the goods are then shipped to the local
shipping clerks for further sorting and international shipment. We also
provide escrow services for high amount and/or web auction orders, and offer
assistance with customs clearance, if required. Currently, we are looking
for individuals to fill in the positions of shipping clerks throughout the
USA. Your duties will include receiving, sorting, repackaging and re-sending
the orders made on behalf of our clients using the pre-paid USPS shipping
labels that you will receive via email. You will be paid $20 for each parcel
that you ship, plus $5 for each order that you will need to re-sort or
re-package. We will also cover any other authorized expense, such as extra
insurance or shipping materials. Your remuneration will be remitted to you
via Western Union twice a month. You can expect to handle 5-15 incoming
packages weekly, following a 2 week probation period. You can perform your
duties from the convenience of your home. You will generally be re-shipping
the orders on same day or next day basis, so you will not need to sacrifice
your home space to storage. You will only be receiving orders placed with
reputable online vendors and delivered by major courier services, such as
FedEx and UPS, who pay great attention to ensuring that they are not
involved into trafficking any illegal substances or hazardous materials.
Thus, there will be no risk on your end. We also encourage you to open and
inspect each package that you receive to ensure the legitimacy and safety of
itsâ content. In order to fill the shipping clerk position, you need to be
aged 18 and above, have a permanent address where you are available on a
regular basis and also have access to phone and email. In order to ensure
that you can be entrusted the client merchandise, we will need to verify
your identity and confirm that you do not have any previous criminal
convictions. To apply for this position and for more information on our
company, please fax your resume and (optionally) cover letter to: (309)

Description : SlimServer plugin for streaming radio stations, especially
bbc stations

 A BBC Radio Stream Plugin

AlienBBC is a plugin for slimserver, the software platform used by the
Slim Devices line of networked music players.

It is primarily designed to allow the user to listen to BBC Radio
streams but also adds the ability to listen to any RealAudio stream.
Currently, it is capable of parsing and playing the following resources:

* All the main BBC Radio 'Live' streams
* The BBC 'Listen Again' Audio on Demand content
* All Available BBC Radio 2 Content
* All Available BBC Radio 4 Content
* The BBC7 Audio Archive
* The Available BBC Local Radio Stations
* Radio 5 Live Audio Archive
* Some of the ABC Content (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
* A number of other streams, suggested by AlienBBC Users
* For a complete list of stations see here

In addition, the code will also parse any 'AlienBBC Playlists' (formerly
'AlienStream' playlists) available, and provides a more robust
environment for the playing of those streams.

Bug#162607: ITA status report

2004-01-08 Thread Craig P. Steffen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I retitled this bug to ITA in August 2003, with the intention that it be
one of the packages that I maintain to start being a DD. I received a
friendly message in December asking, very politely, for a status report
[as a part of the process of clearing out old, dead, IPAs; very sensible].

Due to professional obligations in the fall, I have not gotten to the
state of gearing up to apply for DDevelopership. I did do some looking
into the source code for xwave, however, and discovered that it was
_really_ old. I haven't looked at it in a few months, but as I recall
right now, the last serious coding was 1996, and somebody had hacked on it
and fixed some stuff in 1999, but those were the last significant changes.

I'll look through it again in the next few weeks and verify this. If my
recollection is true, then since I'm sure there are other sound editors
that work perfectly well that are maintained, and I'll probably propose
its removal from Debian as a maintained package. If I don't get to it,
then I'll release the ITA and set it back to orphaned. In either case, I
will update the status by the Superbowl.

Thanks for the ping, Frank.

note that this CPAN module contains a hexdump program which conflicts with
/usr/bin/hexdump in bsdmainutils. i suggest renaming it to hexdump.pl

(i discovered this when i used dh-make-perl to make a local package when i
installed it after upgrading to the latest version of Authen::Radius)

mime-construct does multiple mime attachments. it does an excellent job, a
very useful and versatile tool.

it doesn't do uuencode, but a) uuencode is deprecated and should be avoided,
and b) that's easy enough to do anyway:

   (for i in file1.bin file2.bin file3.bin ; uuencode $i ; echo ; done) | \
   gpg --clearsign | mail ...

FWIW, i don't think that mere duplication of existing functionality is a reason
for a package not to be included in debian(*), but "email" is a really bad name
for this program and this package. it's far too generic.

(*) the only criteria for inclusion in debian are:

1. is it free?
2. is someone willing to package and maintain it?

Great! I have installed this and will do some user testing as soon as I
can.

I notice that the maintainer field still has the old maintainer's name.

Also, your package does not appear to depend on libtse3. I guess this
has to do with the fact that the libtse3 package is badly out of date
(while libtse3-dev, oddly, is fairly current). So did you link in
libtse3 statically, or use libkmid, or...?

Thanks again,

Funny you should bring this up today; we've just been debating an ITP
of another mp3->vorbis converter, with several of us arguing that
such programs are

1) a bad idea because converting mp3 to vorbis creates bad-quality
   vorbis files full of mp3 artifacts;

and

2) unnecessary, because the conversion is trivial.

When this question comes up on the vorbis mailing list, the vorbis
developers and the more knowledgeable users all say "don't transcode
from other lossy codecs to vorbis".

Furthermore, with the recent announcement of patent royalties from
Frauenhofer, it seems that Debian may need to remove all packages that
are covered by the mp3 patents, at which point an mp3-to-vorbis
converter would either be removed, or would be dependent on software
that is no longer part of Debian.

So my comment on this ITP is the same as for mp32ogg: let's not have
it in Debian.
