Package: www.debian.org

Hi,

on http://www.debian.org/CD/vendors it says that if there are problems with the
vendor, one
should contact debian-www@lists.debian.org. Mr. Meichert did so and then
wondered why we published
his e-mail on the Internet [1].

To avoid such confusion in the future, I suggest that we either add a note that
all mail to this address
is publicly stored in the mail archive and one should not send personal
information there. Or we
set a link to http://www.debian.org/contact which also features this note, plus
the disclaimer.

For myself, I'd prefer a mixture of both, a note about the archive and personal
data and a link to the
contact page with a request to read it (the disclaimer).

What do you think about it?

Greetings
Erik

Problem with vendor

2018-10-25 Thread pdoherty
Hi,

After discovering their business on https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/, I
purchased a bootable thumb drive from [Cape Cod Office
Consultants](http://shop.ccocnet.com/software/linux-discs/debian-linux-install-live-media)
on September 25, 2018. I have not received the item and my attempts to contact
the business have either failed (bounced emails) or been ignored (contact
form). I've opened a ticket with PayPal and am attempting to the cost of my
purchase.

All that being said, I would like to see this business be removed from
https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/. I know it's a pipe dream but, ideally, the
vendors appearing on this page should be as reliable as Debian itself.

I'd be happy to provide any additional information that might be relevant.

Thanks,

PRD

URGENT: Indian Vendor Listed at your vendor site belongs to cyber crime area and both vendors are same person

2017-10-24 Thread Vibhu Kapoor

Respected Sir/Madam,

I want to inform you about the Indian vendor which is listed on your
vendor list site that BOTH THE VENDOR ARE SAME and the area to which
their contact location has got very bad impression for cyber crimes.
There is no payment gateway for the payment and they are asking for
direct bank transfer or cash deposit which is not considered as proofs
in Indian Consumer Court.

Proof that the Vendor is same.
1. Same Person Picked up the phone.

2.The area given in the registry is Jharkhand and West Bengal which are
nearby areas.

I love debian linux by heart for what the debian team is doing and I do
not want any criminal ruin the spirit because of their selfishness.

I hope you consider the matter seriously and would not allow any future
vendors from this area.

I sorry to say but it is the truth that India we have got the states
which are involved in such activities.

DO REMOVE THESE TWO VENDORS IMMEDIATELY and in FUTURE ONLY DO PROVIDE
VENDOR SHIP to only someone situated in areas where these cyber
criminals do not reside.

I think I can see where "then" came from, but it sounds a little odd in
English. "Therefore" or "as a result" would be more natural, imo.

I would change the title to:

Title: Debian Vendor Page update (takes 5 minutes to reply)

(see below for reasoning).

I would change question 1 for

1) Do you still provide Debian CD/DVDs?

I find "supports" word confusing ("are you a Debian consultant?"), but
I'm not a native speaker. If we don't want to use CD/DVDs we can change
to "media" or "install media". Maybe a complete reword of the CD section
is needed (e.g. the form only allows to check CD/DVD, if they sell
BlueRay or USB I guess they need to note it in the comments field).

I would change the "ifyes/ else" in question 2 for:

If yes : remove "NO" above and send your reply
else : Please go to this page to update your info:
https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/adding-form

(and thus, no question 3 needed (in the form there is a link to the
vendors/info page).

This way, we would get "NO" answers for the entries needed to delete,
"YES" for the entries that remain current, and the traditional form
submission for the entries needed to update.

What do you think?

Best regards

Ok, besides I was wondering if I cc to cdvendors@d.o. each sent mail.

Maybe it would be too much emails ?

Looks good to me.

Only one comment/suggestion: if we'd like answers to the cdvendors
alias, maybe it's needed to clarify the "let us know" part, e.g. "let
us know (reply to cdvend...@debian.org)" or something like that. Plus
setting the reply-to field of the email to the alias.

Thanks for taking care of the vendor section!

Re: New vendor

2017-02-09 Thread Holger Wansing
Hi,

Alexandre reminded you to add the needed legal information.

In detail: I cannot find info, for which architecture you are selling media.
"32bit" and "64bit" is no architecture naming, we have 32bit for x86 and arm,
for example, and also 64bit for x86 and arm.
So, "32bit" and "64bit" is no explicit architecture name!

So, add the labels "x86" and "x64" or similar to your webshop, to be
conform with the Debian rules for CD vendors, according to
https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/info. Otherwise I have to remove the
entry again.

I have added your entry, should be visible in a few hours.

I checked the Debian page (http://vlinux.in/os/debian) which does not

Please, may you mention it (and maybe add a link to :

Many thanks for your feedback in order to add your site on the Vendor

GetLinux as vendor of Debian installation media

2017-01-15 Thread ep0033
Dear Debian team,

I was reading your "Vendors of Debian installation media" page and
especially the France section.

I visited the website of the vendor named "GetLinux" and was surprised
that it does not meet at least one major French law: any entreprise
website, all the more so when it is an e-commerce website, has to
publish a legal notice page where the full legal identity and
registration numbers are supplied.
Even in the Whois database, the registrant of the domain getlinux.fr
has hidden its identity.
In conclusion, the commercial activity of this website is suspicious.
For your reputation, I would recommend not to list it among your
vendors.

A law reminder :

Eric

Ok and which is your Debian URL ?

(At the url you mention, I only see derivatives of Debian without
mentionning Debian)

Debian DVD/CD vendor list update

2016-08-26 Thread sales
Hello!
I want to inform, that two URL in the list (
https://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/index.en.html ) do not work anymore, the UK
based Linux Deli and Linux-Man DistrOS.

I would like to contribute to the Debian project. I have submitted using the
form the information about my new site to the list which provides Debian 8.5
64-bit and 32-bit DVDs based on official ISOs. The site URL is
http://www.linuxosshop.eu and Debian distributions are available at
http://www.linuxosshop.eu/product-category/debian/
Can you add it to the Vendors List?

Kind regards, Mikael Montonen

Very nice command! In the process:

grep -i ^Message-id * | sed "s/^.* $//" | sort -u | while read
msgid; do:
  yourcommand.sh
  sleep 1
done

=> take a while for more than 2 ids.

Bug#680109: CD Vendor List: Missing note that e-mails to debian-www@lists.debian.org are published

2013-10-27 Thread Laura Arjona
Hi all
I passed the "warning" about mails being published (now appearing in
contact.wml) to the l10n-english list and they approved the wording.

Attached you can find my proposal of splitting that note in a separate
file, and the resulting contact.wml file.

I've tried to get the contact.en.html file but although 'make' gives
no errors, it does not display the note, so something must be wrong in
the files that I send, but I cannot figure out what. Sorry, I'm
totally newbie at wml.

I hope somebody can help to make this work, and then, I would propose
the patch including the note in all the wml files containing links to
mailing lists.

Thanks

inside a , separate it in a file, and include that
snippet on top of each page that has tags.
I know this is "half a proposal", because:
1.- I'm not sure if the class (XXX) has to be tip, note, important or warning.
2.- I don't know how the wml file that would include the text should be.
3.- I don't know how I should rewrite for example the contact file to
include the text once splitted.
4.- I don't know if it would require manual change of each page
containing the tag, or it could be automated with a script,
and how this would affect translations (I mean, if the change in
translations could be automated too).

But if you agree on the idea, I could work to learning the things I
don't know, and provide a patch.

Since Debian can be downloaded for free your only option would be to
become a CD vendor. You might also be interested to be listed as a

Hello,

On 4 Sept. I placed an order with linux-gnu.com from your list of
vendors. I did not receive my order and the vendor did not respond to
requests for status. Today Paypal forced a refund. I recommend you
remove linux-gnu from your list of vendors.

Bug#680109: www.debian.org: CD Vendor List: Missing note that e-mails to debian-www@lists.debian.org are published

2012-07-03 Thread Pfannenstein Erik
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

on http://www.debian.org/CD/vendors it says that if there are problems with the
vendor, one
should contact debian-www@lists.debian.org.

Greetings
Erik

You may :
- ask to provide up to date point release (6.0.5)
- provide link to tell them how to give some money to Debian:
  http://www.debian.org/donations#money_donations
- and commit such future changes :)
- prepare some html/form that would check syntax and prepare vendors entry

Outdated pre-install vendor information

2012-03-27 Thread Ogge Sjölin
Hi!

You should look over the references to sellers of hardware
with debian GNU/Linux pre-installed.

http://www.debian.org/distrib/pre-installed

I happened across the finnish vendor Linux Solutions. Their webpage is
fairly old, selling computer models with P4 Intel processor.

You should require the vendors to renew their listings every
year (or more frequently) or else remove their information.

Problem with debian cd vendor

2011-11-30 Thread QVASIMODO
Hi, two months ago, I bought a complete Debian DVD set from one of the vendors
listed in http://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/ . I paid for it but they never sent
me the package. Also, they don't answer any attempt of communication. Two weeks
ago someone there contacted me asking if I would like to cancel the transaction
and have my money back, but I decided to wait a few more days. Since then I
have had no news from them and there is never anyone to respond our calls.

The vendor in question is the following:

Name: Distribuicoes Linux
Website: http://www.distribuicoeslinux.com.br
E-mail: em...@distribuicoeslinux.com.br

Both they and I are located in Brazil.

I understand the vendor is not affiliated or related to Debian, but you do
request our feedback in the vendors page so here is mine.

Thank you!

to a url that targets our debian distro ;
http://www.penguenci.com/dukkan/index.php?route=product/product&keyword=Debian&product_id=61

it says ;

Broken data given as vendor's Debian-related URL:

Is there something that we do by mistake? Could you please help us to add

Problem with Linux vendor

2011-03-21 Thread Mike Dodd
On your Web site, you say, "If you are having trouble with a vendor
(e.g. you paid for CDs but never received them), you can inform us by
sending mail to debian-www@lists.debian.org."

I purchased a set of Debian GNU/Linux DVDs from Discount Linux DVD.
<http://www.discountlinuxdvd.com/debian.htm>

While waiting for the shipment, I moved, and filed a forwarding order
with the U. S. Postal Service. When I later asked Discount Linux DVD
about the order, Dan replied, "I can ship you another package if you
think it was lost in the mail."

I waited another 9 days, but the package never arrived. I then emailed
Dan and asked him to send a replacement. He did not reply. Two other
requests over the following two weeks also went unanswered.

I then purchased a DVD set from ShopLinuxOnLine.com, and this order was
promptly filled.

I've given up on Discount Linux DVD, and will never order from them again.

Re: trouble with a vendor

2011-01-25 Thread Ricardo Pires
  Hello Craig,

It is not a problem. The Debian site can only de-list the vendor.
Concerning the payment, it has been made by means of a Brazilian
company like Paypal, called PagSeguro, which, in such a case, returns
the money back to the purchaser.
  Thanks,

  Ricardo Pires

Hello Ricardo,
I have emailled the vendor to find out what is going on. We've just
got a second complaint similiar to yours. Unfourntately the most we
can do is de-list the vendor which is what we will do if things are
not sorted out or the website doesn't come back.

trouble with a vendor

2011-01-22 Thread Ricardo Pires
  Hello,

  In http://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/index.en.html, it is written:

"If you are having trouble with a vendor (e.g. you paid for CDs but
never received them), you can inform us by sending mail to
debian-www@lists.debian.org."

This happens to me. The vendor is Distribuicoes Linux, from Brazil.
December 13, 2010, I have paid for the DVDs containing the complete
Debian distribution, but today, January 22, 2011, I have not yet
received them, even living in Brazil, as the vendor. I send a message
to the vendor several weeks ago, but I have had no response.
  Thanks,

  Ricardo Pires

I don't know if you need ppc (stable release) or ppc64 (still not
completely supported) discs. Anyway, you may download CDs or DVDs
directly from one of our mirrors.

Debian powerpc page: http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/
Debian ppc64 page: http://debian-ppc64.alioth.debian.org/

I have made sever attempts to contact vendors listed on your website
concerning getting a Debian Unix Version for the PPC and haven't gotten
a response back from any of them. How can I obtain a PPC version that
would work on a IBM 7025-H70 Risc6000 pSeries server?

Vendor trouble

2010-10-20 Thread Bob Hart
Per your web page, I am reporting trouble with a vendor.

I paid for a lubuntu disk from OS Disc. They sent me a defective disk.
After checking it on 3 machines, I reported it to them. They told me they
would send another disc after verifying that the disc was good. They sent
another disc. I tested it on on 2 machines. It was also defective. They
have refused further communications. This was 15 days ago.

This has been much more than a minor inconvenience. I have been running
extensive tests on lxde, kde, gnome, on top of ubuntu and debian, for
lightweight machines.

I would definitely take them off your website as it has been my experience
that they cannot be trusted.

Thank you,

Bob Hart
