Looking at
https://www.debian.org/MailingLists/index.en.html#subunsub
it has to be -request@l.d.o

And furthermore:

'subscribe' has to be in the subject!
Not more, and not in the body, as mentioned on the Arabic page.

Also, the mentioned Arabeyes project page seems dead...

Please contact the Debian Turkish localisation mailing list and ask
them to update the page. I noticed that it contains other obsolete
links too. Since the original text is in Turkish, we need the Turkish
translation team to update the original Turkish and then translate the
changes to English and then other translators will translate to other
languages.

Hi,

Recently there has been a lot of activity on debian-dutch to get
translations up-to-date. During this process I regularly looked at
https://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/nl which seemed to
be updated every three days or so. However, the current page is from the

Hmm, upon re-reading, I should put that more precise, the date at the
bottom states 10 October, while the e-maillist extracted dates are more
up-to-date. However, some translations (e.g. fpc) were already
incorporated in packages, I think this mentioned date is about that.

Recently I've translated this page. Most of lines with countries has in Polish
bad declension e.g.:

# ar_EG (arabski, używany w Egipt) - should be "w Egipcie"
# ar_OM (arabski, używany w Oman) - w Omanie
# ar_SA (arabski, używany w Arabia Saudyjska) - w Arabii Saudyjskiej
# ar_SY (arabski, używany w Syrian Arab Republic) - w Syryjskiej Republice
Arabskiej
# ar_TN (arabski, używany w Tunezja) - w Tunezji
etc.

This list is automatically generated, so I don't know if and how can I correct
it.
I think this bug is related to other slavonic languages too.
Help, please.

And in French we use
# ar_EG (Arabe – Égypte)

If this fit, you could apply this simple following patch.

By the way, I'm considering the use of iso-codes and isoquery to translate
languages and country names, could a DD ask for adding those two packages on
wolkenstein? My first local try are quite encouraging, so I'll continue digging
on that.

I wonder if we should fix the other Unknown stuff the same way or
consider using the iso-codes package…

Bug#616340: Another way to build /intl/l10n/*/$lang (Was: Missing language code on http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/de)

0: http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po
1: http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/de.de
2: http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/de.en

Well, that's a bit more tricky that I'd have hopped. I fixed it to just
show the language code at the end (should be on-line tomorrow night in
Europe).

> BTW, I also noticed that there is no link to the translated pages in the
> bottom of those pages, I'll try to fix that in the process.

The current process to build those pages starts with a WML template,
that is used to build an HTML template, which is then duplicated to
include data of every language using a shell script.

Another approach to fix the “full language name in breadcrumbs“ and
“link to the translated pages in the footer” would be to add the data
sooner in a WML file, and to build each HTML file from its own WML source.

I'm not sure to be clear, so let me try a simple ASCII graph:

*Current process*
 translation data
 |
 v
WML template ---> HTML template ---> HTML files
(35) (35) (6000)

*Proposed alternative*

translation data
  |
  v
WML template ---> WML files ---> HTML files
(35) (6000) (6000)

Before trying to achieve this, I would appreciate comments, given that
there are currently 35 templates, that are used to build almost 6000
HTML files.

The proposed alternative would add 6000 new WML files in the building
tree (not on CVS of course), representing around 500MB of storage (not a
real problem since 5GB are still available on wolkenstein), and will
also add 6000 building from WML source on a daily basis (that should
take around an hour since a full rebuild of ~33000 files takes a bit
more than 6 hours).

David

Thanks for your notice.

The breadcrumbs are also awfully long in that part of the website. Since
we are going to handle a specific case here, I'd propose to use the
following entry for the breadcrumbs :

http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po/-> PO
http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po4a/  -> po4a
http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/-> PO Debconf

And for every subpage relative to language code, use the (full) language
name (with a fall back to language code if the language name is not
defined).

With Helge example page [1], the breadcrumbs would “simply” be:

> Debian International / Zentrale Übersetzungsstatistik von Debian / PO Debconf
> / Deutsch

instead of:

> Debian International / Zentrale Übersetzungsstatistik von Debian / PO-Dateien
> zur Übersetzung von Debconf templates für jede Sprache / Status der Debconf
> templates l10n mit PO-Dateien für den Sprachcode: @

or in English [2]:

> Debian International / Central Debian translation statistics / PO Debconf /
> German

instead of:

> Debian International / Central Debian translation statistics / PO files in
> Debian for each language / Status of PO files for language code: @

And it's even worse in French [3]...

[1] http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/de.de
[2] http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/de.en
[3] http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/de.fr

BTW, I also noticed that there is no link to the translated pages in the
bottom of those pages, I'll try to fix that in the process.

The thing is, there's no more books about Debian in polish, than those from

ok, I'll update this page and send it to l10n-polish list, so that someone with
write access
can push it to repository.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. Surely a more varied set of
links would be better. But I don't know whether removing them will make
this page better.

These links were added by "wojtekz" in revision 1.22 of
polish/international/Polish/index.wml with message "Completely new
version, mainly by Karol Ossowski". Does anyone know how to get their
email addresses?

This really used to be useful, but now seems cybersquatted.

Removed both in revision 1.28. Should be pushed to the website in a few

Speaking of which: There are different sections on that page. Might it
be possible to get
a.) a TOC on the top with links to the different sections?
b.) in the TOC maybe some sort of summary of the section?

That would be pretty helpful I guess. :)

As I mentiond already on the translator list this is OK. Installer's Debconf
files are created from a set of master PO files and are that's why a little
special, but not special enough for this page.

No idea how it got there, but please have a look.

No, it will not work. This list is also used in other places (mirrors

This is not so simple as you try explain. In Polish, unlike in English, is 7
(seven) forms of each noun e.g. for Egipt there are:
Egipt, Egiptu, Egiptowi, Egipt, Egiptem, Egipcie, Egipcie
but for Arabia different:
Arabia, Arabii, Arabii, Arabię, Arabią, Arabii, Arabio.

> You can fix it in :
> debian/webwml/polish/po/countries.pl.po

In the debian/webwml/polish/po/countries.pl.po is only the first form. It is
used in various pages (e.g. /webwml/polish/CD/vendors/index.wml) and change this
is *not* the right solution.
The ukrainian solution (by Eugeniy Meshcheryakov) is simple but this change
English original text.

Well, for Ukrainian it looks like this:

for Polish, I guess, it can look like this:

# ar_EG (arabski, Egipt)

Recently I've translated this page. Most of lines with countries has in Polish
bad declension e.g.:

# ar_EG (arabski, używany w Egipt) - should be "w Egipcie"
# ar_OM (arabski, używany w Oman) - w Omanie

I think this bug is related to other slavonic languages too.

What do you mean by 'outdated'? That header states that the original
page is
not the English but the Romanian one, and it lists the version which is the
translation of (sorry if I wrote this last sentence in bad English).

I mean, the intended workflow should be something like:

- Modify romanian/international/romanian. It will become version 1.25 and
beyond.
- Apply those fixes to english/international/Romanian. While at it, change
the translation-check header, because if you do not make so, the English page
will tell something like 'This page is outdated'.

I hope being clear.

Hmm, now is clearer, so I have to modify the page in Romanian, then
sync the English one with the Romanian one.

Could you provide me the source of the pagein Romanian? (last time CVS

Hello,

Ok, thanks, I didn't change captitalisation as I saw that was the
original way it was written and I didn't want to do intrusive changes
(wll, as less intrusive as possible, taking into account the
original issue).

I am sorry to bother you again, but I have some corrections and
additions to this page since the first version was a fast mockup and I
forgot to add a new resource which aims at centralise the coordination
of all Romanian localisation efforts. See attachment (I have removed
boldification and capitalisation for tags).

I also have a question, shouldn't this filed be changed?
#use wml::debian::translation-check original="romanian" translation="1.24"

The Romanian translation is outdated in regard to the new page and I
suspect this to be the cause.

Hey there,

actually, you're not looking at the right place. w.d.o/intl/l10n/po/pot is
for the pot files *of program translations*. The page you are looking for is
w.d.o/intl/l10n/po-debconf/pot

Maybe we could update the page headers to emphasis the difference?

missing package po template files on http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po/pot

2005-08-13 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi all,

It's come to my attention that the list of PO template files for Debian
packages, on the Debian website at
<http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po/pot>, for some reason does not
include the samba package. The package has been using po-debconf for quite
a while, and the files can all be found on
<http://people.debian.org/~barbier/l10n/material/po/unstable/main/s/samba/debian/po/>.
Can someone shed some light on this? Is it related to the fact that the
samba source package includes po files in other directories besides
debian/po, and therefore some script has failed to trim the paths?

Thanks,

The problem is that the lessoften script does currently not run
according to
  http://www-master.debian.org/build-logs/webwml/
I asked Josip if he could enable it again, but received no answer.
Of course this is my fault since I did not complain loudly ;)

I fully agree, the problem is that there is no bijection between
packages using a native format and Debian native packages; moreover
some developers have their own translators (e.g. via the Free
Translation Project). So I have currently no solution, the best bet
would be that maintainers explicitly request help from Debian
translators, and this ends up with creating an infrastructure similar
to the Free Translation Project for Debian. A better alternative would
be to use the FTP (which works pretty well AFAICT, but I do not use it
myself) instead of maintaining our own system, and thus to have a Debian
pseudo-domain containing all Debian packages so that Debian translators
can concentrate on them. This is just a thought, I did not contact FTP
folks to see if this is realistic.

Thank you alot, Denis. Btw., two questions:

-) Any news about the official pages, or shall the link on the
w.d.o/intl/l10n/ page be changed to point to your pages until it will be
addressed?

-) Do you think it would be possible to get a seperate list for:
* State of "l10n" in native Debian package PO files.

I guess that would help terrific, because the upstream po files most of
the time should be handled in an upstream l10n/i18n group, and it is
hard to spot the debian specific po files in there... A different list
for native packages would truly help, IMHO.

Yes, this is more or less the same problem: ddtp is currently (since
the compromise) disfunctional. From what I know grisu (whose baby DDTP
is) is currently still overworked (at least that was the last thing I've
heard from him).

I merged them, they should quite obviously be resolved at the same
time. Maybe someone wants to add some "currently not available due to
the server compromise restauration work" or similar to these pages
in the meantime

Yes, I understand that we can get updated information from

I hope webmasters make www.d.o update properly with all pages :)

to its own BTS status, we translators can check more easier that
translated po-debconf file is posted or not. could you think about
 it, please?

Josip, any idea when the lessoften script will run again?
As I did not yet request access to non-us, the following patch should be
applied to prevent a premature end of execution.

BTW http://people.debian.org/~barbier/intl/l10n/po-debconf/ja/
contains up-to-date stats.

Hello again...

I noticed a finish page on debian/international... I was
looking for somewhere to put reference to the portuguese
mainling lists and the Debian-BR project, wich has also
a page... would it be the case of including portuguese to
this section or is there any other place to do that?

[]s!
