is to put it into .bashrc which works for me.

I mean to put it in .xsession. .xinitrc will be ignored by any session
that is started by a display manager (because it's xinit's RC file).

If you do it that way, does it work?

No it doesn't work too. My ordinary way is to log into console and type
startx (and in that case .xinitrc is used).

Bug#257515: xserver-xfree86: uk/pc104 layout, missing also a/d/f/b (in addition to e/c)

I see the same thing, just wanted to add that the keys adfb are also
missing. My XFConfig-4 may be messy, but it has worked fine until just
now (and now I can't even type my username in xdm).

I tried switching to pc105 but that made no difference.

Hi.

Setting XTerm*geometry breaks the menus on my setup.

Attached are two screenshots, one for xterm (which brings up an
80x24 window) and the other one for xterm -xrm 'XTerm*geometry:
80x24' (which also brings up an 80x24 window), when trying to access
the main menu. All other menus are truncated the same way.

My other XTerm resources are:

  XTerm*cursorColor:Red
  XTerm*scrollBar: False
  XTerm*vt100.utf8Fonts.font: -xos4-terminus-medium-r-normal-*-*-160-*-*-c-=
*-iso10646-1

  XTerm*color12:RoyalBlue1
  XTerm*visualBell: true

2004-07-19 Thread Guido Guenther
Package: xterm
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6

Hi,
the above is no longer working after an upgrade to the versions below.
Before that I could use: Alt-f, Alt-b to jump whole words forward or
backward in a bash running within xterm. This doesn't work anymore,
ESC-f, ESC-b still works though. Any ideas where to start digging?
Cheers,

P.S.: I'm additionally using:
 keysym Alt_L = Meta_L Alt_L
to make the above work.

Bug#258575: cannot set both ca and fr layout

2004-07-19 Thread Christophe Combelles

I have the same problem with the keyboard :

from Gnome 2.6 (latest Sid) :
- open keyboard preferences - layouts
- try to select both fr and ca layouts
(or fr and us_intl)
= You get an error window.

You can reproduce the same thing with the command line :

The following command works :
setxkbmap -layout fr,us
setxkbmap -layout fr,gb

But the following does not work :
setxkbmap -layout fr,ca
setxkbmap -layout fr,us_intl

why ??

Now that Michael has overhauled gnu.cf, my idea is to merge the (minor)
  k*BSD
bits into a conditionalised section in gnu.cf, together with a bunch of
conditionalised sections copied from linux.cf. This way we can get all
Glibc-based ports to use the same base configuration.

As for non-Glibc ports, we will have to split the Debian bits out of gnu.cf
into, say, debian.cf. Then both gnu.cf and NetBSD.cf can use that.

  What do you people think?

I say do what you like, but keep in mind 1) that we no longer really have a
relationship with XFree86 upstream, at least when it comes to Imakefiles
and 2) no one other than XFree86 appears to be interested in retraining
 Imake as a build system.

In other words, my ordinary caution about major overhauls in this part of
the tree is not engaged, but please don't spend time engineering a solution
for the ages, as the rest of the X community seems pretty interested in
making sure Imake doesn't live very much longer.

(Of course, it often happens that deprecating things doesn't always
 actually make them go away...)

Agreed in general. Depending on how my work life goes and a few other
things, I may not get around to doing serious revamping of the NetBSD
branch until we've started to move to a saner build system anyway... but,
on the whole, I think that splitting debian.cf from gnu.cf from linux.cf
from NetBSD.cf is probably sane (albeit the latter may end up named
something else just because it shares *almost* nothing with NetBSD-native
configs; the NetBSD kernel stuff just ain't that exciting, and it still has
a GNU userland, just not a GNU libc).

Seems to build something. Seems to work...but I'm GNU/Linux on PowerPC.

Seems like it. As long g++ was used, it should be ok.

I'll test this on GNU/kFreeBSD and commit.

*dons part-time Debian GCC Debian X committer hats together*

This looks correct from past work on the NetBSD patches, and using g++
rather than -lstdc++ is *absolutely* the correct solution.

Bug#260232: xterm: XTerm*metaSendsEscape no longer working

 Hi,
the above is no longer working after an upgrade to the versions below.
Before that I could use: Alt-f, Alt-b to jump whole words forward or
backward in a bash running within xterm. This doesn't work anymore,
ESC-f, ESC-b still works though. Any ideas where to start digging?

I don't think the problem is within xterm (it's been a while since I tweaked
the logic for this). More likely something in the keyboard configuration
has separated the definitions that you were relying upon. What I do to
debug this is to use xev and ensure that it's reporting Meta_L for the
key. If that's right, I generally compile a debug version of xterm
(configure --enable-trace) and check the initialization of the modifiers.

I did check over this recently and recall that there was some issue where
one could accidentally setup a conflict that would make xterm not do meta.
But that also showed up in xmodmap's display.

xterm manpage dodgy half way through

2004-07-19 Thread Zenaan Harkness
somewhere just before the SECURITY section, the xterm man page becomes
narrower (to about 2/3 normal width).

It looks like a bug to me.
