Bug#351067: xfs: missing depends on debconf stuff

2006-02-02 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: xfs
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4

While testing xfs with piuparts, I ran into the following problem:

  Setting up xfs (6.9.0.dfsg.1-4) ...
  /var/lib/dpkg/info/xfs.postinst: line
13: /usr/share/debconf/confmodule: No such file or directory
  dpkg: error processing xfs (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

You need to depend on debconf-2.0 | debconf, I guess.

severity 350458 serious
thanks

I'm raising the severity since it's causing Firefox (at least) to
FTBFS. And as the submitter points out, it's not clear how this should
be resolved.

Bug#351166: size of .xsession-errors should be limited

2006-02-02 Thread Andrew Vaughan
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1
Severity: wishlist

Yesterday, ~/.xsession-errors grew to over 600MB.
This was all the free disk space available on the partition.
It should really be limited to a maximum size.

Note that it was not possible to rm the file, and the file seemed
to consist of non-ascii chars, so something else was wrong as well.

Bug#347791: upgrade resets x-terminal-emulator alternative

2006-02-02 Thread Joey Hess
Package: xterm
Version: 208-3.1
Severity: normal

(Hmm, I see I already filed a bug on this once, so I'll just follow up
with this second, more detailed bug report since I typed it up..)

My system was configured via update-alternatives --edit so that xterm
was the alternative used for x-terminal-emulator. After upgrading from
version 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 to this new version, it got reset to
gnome-terminal. gnome-terminal was not itself upgraded as part of this
upgrade.

This is the second time that I have experienced this problem; both times
were upgrades from version 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11, which I will now downgrade
back to since #347790 is still unfixed. :-(

Here's the text output during the xterm upgrade:

Unpacking replacement xterm ...

Bug#345914: xorg 6.9.0 + i810 freeze on startup

2006-02-02 Thread Ivan Tarasov
I've just upgraded from xorg 6.8.2.dfsg.1-2 to 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 and
Xorg catches signal 11 on startup. After trying different configurations
in xorg.conf I've found that Xorg fails to load even when called from
xorgcfg, and 'Xorg -configure' (which is called from xorgcfg) catches
signal 11 too.

When called with '-configure' option, Xorg does not load any
configuration but tries to make one by itself. Here is the output of
'Xorg -configure':

-
$ Xorg -configure

Yeah, don't run EXA since it's still largely experimental.

Bug#301030: can we move lndir to coreutils or debianutils?

2006-02-02 Thread Nick Jenkins
How about a real-world human example by way of a use-case? In particular, me.

Just now, I wanted to install MediaWiki on a machine, and use the same
source for multiple virtual hosts (for easy administration security
updates). Their recommendation of the easiest way to do this is to use
the lndir command (ref:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_FAQ#Is_it_possible_to_install_more_than_one_wiki_.28MediaWiki.29_on_a_server.3F_How.3F
). So of course I typed lndir into a ssh session on the headless,
X-window-less, debian server that will host these sites:
===
ludo:~# lndir
bash: lndir: command not found
ludo:~#
===

I was surprised - this machine has the standard coreutils and debian
utils installed, so I would have expected to have such a seeming
useful command available. So, I googled, and found this bug. On
finding that I have to apt-get install xutils, I did so, but was a
bit surprised because I would have expected to have this program
included as part of the core or standard utils.

All the best,
Nick.
