Bug#365531: On a second tought ...

2006-05-01 Thread Christian Perrier

thanks

Quoting Andre Luis Lopes ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Hello,

I noticed that I not only updated the translation but also recoded my
local copy to UTF-8 (from ISO-8859-1) before updating the translation.

I'm sending a copy of the fully translated file I have locally, already
fully updated and fully recoded to UTF-8. Myabe that's better for you guys
to use this file rather than to apply the patch enconded as UTF-8 to a
 ISO-8859-1 encoded translation.

Yeah, would be much better. Except that you sent the D-I translation
file, not the xorg one..:-)

Anyway, I managed to use your patch. I just add to apply it then
change the header mentioning the encoding. So no need to re-send the file.

I've commited this updated file to the SVN.

Actually, I do not recommend sending patches for PO files, in general. Most
often you're risking that the developer has something that has moved
from what you used as reference and then is unable to apply your
patch.

So, this is why I never send patches for po-debconf and po
translations.

That makes bigger bug reports, yes, but that seems way safer to me,
especially with developers that are not very well used with PO files.

Bug#365581: xserver-xorg-input-evdev: evdev breaks hotplugging

2006-05-01 Thread Peter Colberg
Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev
Version: 1:1.0.0.5-2
Severity: important
Tags: fixed-upstream

With my Logitech MX510 USB mouse having more than 7 buttons, I am
forced to use the evdev driver, which still seems to be horribly broken
in Xorg 7.0. The most annoying bug is certainly missing hotplugging
support.

Unplugging and replugging the mouse renders it frozen, requiring a
hard X server reset. Consequently, this also makes resuming from
Suspend-To-RAM with a working pointer impossible.

Could you please package the newest upstream version (v1.1.2) of
xf86-input-evdev? It solved all the issues I had before...

* Hotplugging works perfectly, as well as Suspend-to-RAM.

* The number of buttons is autodetected.
Wheel and side buttons are mapped automagically to buttons 4+5 and 6+7,
respectively. I do not even have to use Xmodmap anymore.

With the old driver, I had to supply 32(!) button mappings to Xmodmap,
additionally fixing a weird middle mouse button order screw-up.

  (pointer = 1 3 2 4 5 8 9 6 7 10 11 12 13 ...)

* As a further convenience, Name and Phys options are supported again.

BTW, thank you very much for packaging modular Xorg.

Your hard work made compiling and installing the upstream evdev driver
on my local machine a matter of minutes (instead of hours).

Bug#365602: xterm: When changing font size in fixed-size window, COLUMNS is not recalculated

2006-05-01 Thread Reuben Thomas
Package: xterm
Version: 210-2
Severity: minor

I use fixed-size (full screen) windows under ion, so when I change the
font size in xterm, the window size does not change. Hence, COLUMNS
and LINES should be recalculated, but they aren't. Since the window
size doesn't change, I imagine the WM doesn't send SIGWINCH, so
presumably it should be up to xterm to determine that its window
hasn't changed size as requested.

In the postrm, when $1 is remove, deregister_x_lib_dir_with_ld_so is

needs to go remove dangling symlinks in /usr/X11R6/lib. Calling them in

The modular version, especially 2:1.0.0-3 does not do anything with

Hi,

 This is just a cross-reference with #326199 where gdk.pc depends on a

x11.pc should appear with the modular tree in version 7.0.

2006-05-01 Thread Martin Šlouf
hi,

i noticed that, but on my debian unstable it reported unresolved referencies, i
solved this about a 6 month ago by special order of lib directories in
'/etc/ld.so.conf' file according to some maillist posting which stated st like
that:

- - - - my /etc/ld.so.conf - - - -

# this needs to be here just because of some libtool problems, though it is
# a default directory for library searches
# I encoutered problems with eclipse and libXrenderCreateAnimCursor C function
# from libxrender1 deb package, seems like the link from
# /usr/X11R6/lib/libXrender.la - /lib/libXrender.la is not working well
# if libXrender is 1st found here, everythink is ok, dynamic loader is not
# confused, in any other case, undefined symbols are reported
/usr/lib

# let this be the second (see comment above)
/usr/X11R6/lib

/usr/lib/3dnow/atlas
/usr/lib/atlas/3dnow
/usr/lib/3dnow
/usr/local/lib

# because of firebird 1.5 -- it is an setuid prog,
# in which case $LD_LIBRARY_PATH is ignored
#/usr/local/gcc323/lib
# kernel 2.6
#/usr/local/linux-2.6-utils/lib

- - - -

anyway, thanks :)

Bug#365612: default XFILESEARCHPATH no longer finds -color resources

2006-05-01 Thread Brendan O'Dea
Package: libxt6
Version: 1:1.0.0-4

The default XFILESEARCHPATH no longer contains the %C (customization)
expansion, required to find -color resources in /etc/X11/app-defaults.

With the previous version of X, a /etc/X11/Xresources/x11-common set:

! load color-specific resources for clients that have them
  #ifdef COLOR
  *customization: -color
  #endif

and the default XFILESEARCHPATH appears to have been (from strings on
libXt.so):

/etc/X11/%L/%T/%N%C%S:/etc/X11/%l/%T/%N%C%S:/etc/X11/%T/%N%C%S:/etc/X11/%L/%T/%N%S:/etc/X11/%l/%T/%N%S:/etc/X11/%T/%N%S:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/%L/%T/%N%C%S:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/%l/%T/%N%C%S:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/%T/%N%C%S:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/%L/%T/%N%S:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/%l/%T/%N%S:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/%T/%N%S

In the current version the x11-common resource has gone, and further the
default search path is set in debian/rules to:

/usr/lib/X11/%L/%T/%N%S:/usr/lib/X11/%l/%T/%N%S:/usr/lib/X11/%T/%N%S:/etc/X11/%L/%T/%N%S:/etc/X11/%l/%T/%N%S:/etc/X11/%T/%N%S

It would be nice if this change could be reverted: the -color version
of xclock and Xaw applications look substantially better.

Note also that the ordering of the older path searches /etc/X11 first,
meaning that resources for packaged applications should be found earlier
in the path.

Hello,
Just to clarify: Can you see unresolved references in libxcursor1 with
*current* debian unstable? Do you have problems with gaphor on Debian
unstable?

Because I cannot see either the unresolved symbols in libxcursor1 or
the startup problem in gaphor (with /etc/ld.so.conf only containing
/usr/X11R6/lib).

Bug#345914: Problem source has been identified upstream [PATCH]

2006-05-01 Thread H. S. Teoh
tags 345914 +patch
thanks

Hi, I've been hit by the same problem in all xorg servers above 6.8.2,
and after searching around online, I've found the upstream bug report,
which contains the solution:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5443

Basically, it's a call to ValidatePCI() that needs to be commented out.
I've tested this fix myself: apt-get source xorg-xserver-core and all
the build dependencies, then edit xf86Bus.c and comment out the
ValidatePCI() call, then dpkg-buildpackage and install the patched
package. It finally works on my Intel 855GM.

I've attached the patch, for people who use the i810 driver and is
running into the same problem (it was very annoying for me). Also, I've
uploaded the (UNOFFICIAL!) fixed package here (i386 only, sorry), for
those who badly need to get their Intel chips working:

http://eusebeia.dyndns.org/~hsteoh/debian/xserver-xorg-core_1.0.2-7_i386.deb

CAVEAT: this patch is probably too general; it really should be applied
only if the i810 module is being used (and maybe in a few other
cases---see the bug report for details). So, you should only install
the above package if you are using the i810 module. I have no guarantees
what it will do if you are using another chipset! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

 Hello people,

could you package the xset program as part of the X Strike Force ?
The package already exists in Ubuntu and is maintained by Daniel Stone.
It is used by the package acpi-support that I'd like to integrate in
 Debian.

Uh? isn't xset in xbase-clients already? :)

Shouldn't that logic go in the post*rm*?

No, because we really just want to get rid of these things. They're
functionally replicated in x11-common anyway now.

In the pre-modular Xorg, startx manpage had something like this:

Note that in the Debian system, what many people traditionally put in the
.xinitrc file should go in .xsession instead; this permits the same X

the X session. All discussion of the .xinitrc file in the xinit(1) manual
page applies equally well to .xsession.

I can't find this now, is it still valid?

Also note that statx manpage talks about /usr/lib/X11/xinit/ directory,
 shouldn't that be /etc/X11/xinit?

Yes, you're right on both counts. The manpage needs to be patched. Would
you mind filing a bug on xbase-clients about it?

Bug#365353: missing debconf template: xserver-xorg/config/inputdevice/mouse/zaxismapping

  Quoting Adam Borowski ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
   Package: xserver-xorg
   Version: 1:7.0.15
   Severity: grave
   Justification: renders package uninstallable

   The debconf question xserver-xorg/config/inputdevice/mouse/zaxismapping
is needed by xserver-xorg's preinst, yet its template is missing. Without
it, installation fails on new installs unless manually preseeded.

I grabbed this template back from the 6.9 branch, along with
  translations.

However, I'm not involved in X packages maintenance enough for knowing
whether re-adding it is the way to go.

Please, XSF people, tell me if that is what needs to be done. If so,
  I'll apply my pending change.

David added some code to the preinst which copes with the absence of the
template in question, but it seems to me that the code isn't useful *at all*
if we're not going to use the template. Since the purpose of this code is
to convert the values for this question, and there are no other uses of this
question in the config or postinst scripts, I think the correct solution is
to simply drop this block of code from the config script.

Right, I'm not really sure why Daniel removed the template in the ubuntu
stuff. I'll look in to it and possibly add it back. Removing it will go
well with my ultimate plan to dismember dexconf though, so that'll be my
preference if it's something sensible.

For some reason, I am seeing xbase-clients at 1:7.0.0-5 rather than
1:7.0.15, and the list of binary packages for xorg doesn't include
xbase-clients. I'm not reopening the bug because I am guessing this
is the result of some transition that I've overlooked. (I do notice
that xbase-clients's source package is xorg-x11, not xorg, for
example.) Anyway, since my xbase-clients is still 1:7.0.0-5 in sid,
I'm still seeing this, so I'm bringing it up in case there was a
mistake. If the problem persists for a few more days, I'll go ahead
and reopen the bug (unless someone explains my error here). Thanks!
(Upgrading the xorg packages to 1:7.0.15 hasn't fixed the problem. My
sid system is currently fully updated.)
