Bug#212347: en_US.UTF-8 compositions missing in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose
hi Julien, cool, I had already forgotten about it :) so I'm now running Ubuntu, with X-org. But I suppose ubuntu and debian share the xlibs files, so I went ahead and tested it here: so I just typed (using compose): ÁÂÀÄÃáâàäã ÉÊÈË éêèë ÓÔÒÖÕóôòöõ ÚÛÙÜŨúûùüũ ÍÎÌÏĨíîìïĩ and they all seem to be working perfect. If the ubuntu installation can be used as a reference, pls move ahead and close the bug. thanks :) - jan - Original Message From: Julien Cristau <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Jan Pfeifer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, January 17, 2007 9:57:27 PM Subject: Re: en_US.UTF-8 compositions missing in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose Hi Jan, about 3 years ago you reported this bug against the Debian xlibs package: On Tue, Sep 23, 2003 at 09:30:40 -0300, Jan Pfeifer wrote: > many of the compositions for latin characters (accents, umlaut, etc.) > has a "wrong" order of key strikes (Multi_Key + letter + accent, instead > of the "natural"? Bug#370181: Monitor Display Size Incorrect
Hi Bruce, Thanks for the inquiry. I modified XF86Config-4 by using some help I got from Linux-on-laptops.com. I saved a copy of the original file generated by the installer, if you'd like to see it. The problem actually occurred with a Sarge installation. I'm running Sarge exclusively now and have been for about six months with no problems. I never been able to get either of two HP printers to print anything other than simple text, however. Bug#394821: mga_drv unresolved symbols after 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge2 upgrade
Hi, The unresolved symbol errors that you get with the free mga driver looks strange. I wonder whether you installed some non-official librairies that could be incompatible with the X server. You should try to reinstall the packages that contain the following files: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.a /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libspeedo.a /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/mga_drv.o And eventually check that all other packages got installed fine by the upgrade. Reinstall the whole bunch of X packages might help too. I know that this looks like what you've done previously, but I'd rather be sure that everything is installed fine since there is no reason for libraries to break like this on your machine without breaking anywhere else. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 [debconf] Simplified monitor selection can result in driver settings which overclock the monitor, and the monitor will not turn on. I have been setting up debian testing on an older 19 inch monitor with the 3dfx driver (tdfx). If I used the simplified monitor setup, and report that I have a 19-20 inch monitor, but only use display modes to 1280x1024, the XF86Config-4 file will allow Hsync from 30-160 and Vsync from 50-150 (necessary for the 2000x1500 resolution, I guess). As a result, the automatic mode selection will choose Hsync and Vsync which exceed my monitor's capabilities in 1280x1024 mode. This happens in both of the simplified monitor setup modes (Simple and Medium). In advanced mode I could force Vsync and Hsync to reasonable values for my monitor, and everything came up. I think I was led astray by the simplified setup -- In particular, the max vsync rate > 85 is surprizing to me. The simplified setups should look at the maximum requested resolution, and reduce default Hsync and Vsync ranges. -- Robert Neff --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Robert Neff wrote: > I have not reproduced this recently. Bug#407371: xorg: Video playback problem (DirectDraw) under Wine
Package: xorg Version: 1:7.1.0-10 Severity: normal I have been using Mpeg2Schnitt under Wine (it's a Windows executable, and doen't have any equivalent under Linux that I can find...) to edit .m2v and .mp2 files which were recorded from FTA Digital TV, then demuxed by ProjectX for some time now. After upgrading from XFree86 to Xorg, in preparation to upgrading to Etch and to hopefully solve some other issues I was having, I noted that there was an issue with not being able to view the video output using the Mpeg2Schitt program. Thinking it was the Mpeg2Schnitt program at fault, I upgraded it. No change. The other thought was that it could be the .m2v file itself, however trying other .m2v files show the same problem. Trying new versions of Wine makes no difference. I have tested using the same program (indeed, the whole same .wine/fake_windows information for Wine) under a clean Sarge installation in VMWare, and this problem does not occur. I can only conclude that it is somewhere in Xorg that the issue lies. The stderr output from the wine execution is shown below: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.wine/fake_windows/Progs/Mpeg2Schnitt071$ wine Mpeg2Schnitt.exe fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x0080 not yet implemented fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_GetAvailableTextureMem (0x1340020) : stub, simulating 64MB for now, returning 64MB left fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetCooperativeLevel (0x1af298)->(0x10024,0008) err:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetDisplayMode Width=0, Height=0, what to do? fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_CreateSurface Wanted to get surface dimensions from window 0x10024, but it has only a size of 0x0. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14_i386 An "apt-get upgrade" about 12 hours ago broke my mousewheel. Furthermore the mouse speed has decreased. (several (all?) X-server-related packages were updated) The problem is that /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file was overwritten/changed. Recovering the old XF86Config-4 from a backup and exchanging it with the new one restored the accustomed mouse function. Screen resultion, driver (ati) haven't been altered (only the mouse was the problem - even the keyboard stayed at "102") Let me know if you need the XF86Config-4 before and after, and any additional info I can't imagine now. BTW, on June 3rd, I changed /etc/apt/sources.list from "testing" to "sarge". Best regards, Hannes. --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Closing since reconfiguring Xorg renames the old config file before creating a new one. Brice --- End Message ---

With the removal of devfs, the problem still exists, but can probably now be considered a non-problem, given that devfs users have had to "upgrade" to udev (that's what I did). However, the naming rules themselves are not tied to devfs; you can use them with udev, for example, or with static devices, and so I think the "devfs-style" device name should be supported by the code which opens apm_bios. At the very least, device names should not be hardcoded; a configuration option would be useful here. Regards, Roger -- .''`. Bug#392498: Bug#278312: xserver-xfree86: [palmax] Touchscreen packets not processed unless under high load

I just saw that you reported the same bug against xserver-xorg-input-palmax in #392498 and posted a clean patch there. We won't fix xserver-xfree86 anymore. So let's just close this bug and keep working on the other one. From what I see at: http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86-input-palmax.git;a=summary upstream did not change since the one you have (Xorg 7.0/Palmax 1.0.0.5). So I don't expect the bug to be fixed in 7.1/1.1.0. So I guess we should apply your patch. I forwarded the bug and patch upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9690. We'll see what happens. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: xfree86-xserver Version: xserver-xfree86 Severity: normal Hi, as per the Subject, the savage driver doesn't ask the monitor about its capabilities via DDC, leading to the X server defaulting to 75 dpi, and showing very small fonts. I have observed this behaviour on multiple on-board GFX machines, and even switching to the 'vesa' generic driver shows the expected results in the XFree86.0.log, and set the display DPI to 86x84 for a 15" TFT display. I can confirm that similar machines using the 'via' driver, and another machine using 'nv' driver get the DDC info correctly - this problem seems to be local to the 'savage' driver. I rarely use that machine anymore, but if I recall correctly I did about six months ago, and had to reapply the fix when I upgraded X. It's probably easier to check the code to see if the logic error is still there (not processing a packet unless *more* data is present). I can recheck it if you want, but not today. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

MONSTER CAREER ADVICE NEWSLETTER Tuesday, January 16, 2007 How Would You Spend a Raise or Bonus? On Fri, 12 Jan 2007, Brice Goglin wrote: About 3 years ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS regarding a memory leak in the Xfree86 server when using the vesa driver. Did any of you guys reproduce this problem recently? If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks. I am currently not using the VESA driver on any of my machines, so I cant test it. But looking back I suspect the reason for it to be the Mozilla memory leak, for which other bugreports are already filed. So perhaps just go ahead and close this bug, if someone else happens to run over this on a current setup he will just reopen this bug or file a new one. c'ya sven -- The Internet treats censorship as a routing problem, and routes around it. Bug#394058: xserver-xorg-core: X mouse manpage is in section 4x
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 1:1.0.2-9 Followup-For: Bug #394058 I was going to report the same issue. "mouse(4)" is a man page describing the pinout and protocol used by serial mice. The page relevent to the X mouse driver is "mouse(4x)" which you can view using "man 4x mouse". The xorg.conf manpage SEE-ALSO section should be updated to refer to "mouse(4x)" rather than "mouse(4)". The same may be true of the other driver pages referred to there. Appologies if this has been fixed recently. I'm not keen to upgrade my X server just to see if a man page typo has been fixed! Bug#309914: marked as done ('dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' become no-op on upgrade from Woody)
Your message dated Wed, 17 Jan 2007 12:56:47 +0200 (SAST) with message-id <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and subject line Bug#309914: 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' become no-op on upgrade from Woody has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1 Severity: serious Justification: Breaks functionality on upgrade Following upgrade from Woody, 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' silently becomes a no-op because no /var/lib/xfree86/XF86Config-4.md5sum file exists. This causes an unexpected regression in behaviour from Woody (which predates 4.2.1-11) which is only documented in XF86Config-4 as generated _after_ you fix that problem. I ran into this after my PS/2 mouse broke under GPM+X and I needed to reconfigure it. The issue is really that 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' does not tell you that it is not controlling XF86Config-4 and even worse refuses to create a new copy if you delete the file leaving the average user at a loss to fix their system. There are a slew of bugs arising from just this scenario in the BTS. The information is implicitly there in the NEWS.Debian.gz but probably needs to be documented clearly in the Release Notes. Note: the problem occurred on another machine so the info below is somewhat misleading. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/xfree86/X.roster: xserver-xfree86 /etc/X11/X target unchanged from checksum in /var/lib/xfree86/X.md5sum. Hi :) I admit I've not tried - the NFS root image running on the call centre machines has not changed in over a year, and we're happy with the performance of the 'vesa' driver, so whilst this bug may still be present, I don't have the resources to test it. To that end, you might as well close it, and if it becomes an issue in future, I'll open a new bug and reference this old one.
