Bug#410068: Debian bug #410068 (random crashes in xorg)

2007-03-10 Thread Brice Goglin
Scott A Crosby wrote:
I'm not sure if I should email you personally. If I am not, I
apologize. I'm willing to debug this. I have X running in gdb inside
of a screen session, so when it crashes, I'll have a full GDB session
availablefor an inspection. Unfortunately, the debian X package has no
symbols. I hope you can help me with that.

Look at http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace
Just replace hello with xserver-xorg-core, rebuild it as describes,
and install the generated .deb packages.

Apart from that, you could try the X server currently sitting in
experimental (2:1.2.99.901-1).

Bug#218615: xserver-xfree86: Crash in Return To Castle Wolfenstein causes mouse pointer to hang.

2007-03-10 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

2 month ago, you offered to post more info about this problem? Did have
a chance to reproduce and gather the info?

Since the problem occurs with Xorg, I should reassign this bug a
xserver-xorg package. But, it looks like you're running the non-free
nvidia driver. Could you try to reproduce with any free driver? If not,
I am afraid we will not be able to help and you'll have to complain to
nvidia. If so, the bug won't be nvidia specific and could probably be
reassigned to xserver-xorg-core.

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#220448: xserver-xfree86: Some fonts simply don't show up, adobe courier for example

2007-03-10 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi Greg,

Could you please give more detail on how to reproduce? How invalid are
these font files? Just change random bits?

Does this still happen with Xorg/Etch?

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#269860: xserver-xfree86: [dix/various input drivers] 'xset m' will SIGILL the server if the core pointer doesn't register an InitPtrFeedbackClassDeviceStruct calback [DoS attack?]

2007-03-10 Thread Brice Goglin
From what I see in the changelog of xserver 1.2.99.0, the input-hotplug
branch has been merged. So people might want to try xserver-xorg-core
2:1.2.99.901-1 currently sitting in experimental.

This bug is actually well known, especially in xscreensaver community
(http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/faq.html#mouse-idle).

2007-03-10 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi Julien,

About 3 years ago, you reported a problem to the Debian BTS regarding
the backing store implementation being very slow. Did you reproduce this
problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? Does the problem still matter today?
If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.

Thanks,

---Zitatende---

I don't think I'll be able to reproduce the bug, because I'm not
playing 3D games at the moment and I don't intend to. Also the bug
won't be reproducible for me with a free driver, since 3D games do not
run on those (at least not with usable speed). I'd need different
hardware for that.

In the meantime I was running an ATI card for a while (on the old
hardware, because the nvidia card had snuffed it) with free drivers
which did *not* show that particular bug.

I also was not able to reproduce the bug under circumstances unrelated
to games (i.e. other 3D applications, such as fluxus) as yet. It
appears it has to be fullscreen 3D.

Kind regards
 FDF

Bug#394821: mga_drv unresolved symbols after 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge2 upgrade

2007-03-10 Thread Donald Teed

Brice Goglin wrote:

Hi,

said before?

Hi Brice,

Thanks for the follow up. The problem was only resolved by installing
driver package from Matrox. It overwrote the mga_drv driver within
the X libraries area, and then X would start. Prior to that I had tried
building

the package from debian sources and every angle I could think of.

I know that months before that, I had problems with switching video
cards from
nvidia to matrox. In that case, a proprietary nvidia library was
getting in the way

of making GLX work for Matrox. I may have installed the Matrox prop. driver
way back then in attempts to overwrite this, and then this required working
with the matrox driver from here on - breaking only when X was updated.
I'm sorry I don't have more details. I have a lot of systems to take
care of

and my desktop is probably the least important of them, so I probably don't
take as much note of what I do there.

Thanks,

Xprint: shorten font filename to fit in tar length limit

The length of the Xprint font file NewCenturySchlbk-BoldItalic.pmf
pushes the full path over the traditional 100 character limit for
tarballs (when module version number is included). Shorten it to
NewCentSchlbk-BoldItal.pmf to get back below the limit and rename
other font files in that family to match.

 Hi Julien,

About 3 years ago, you reported a problem to the Debian BTS regarding
the backing store implementation being very slow. Did you reproduce this
problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? Does the problem still matter today?
If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.

 Thanks,
 Brice

The submitter's address is invalid.

I am keeping the bug open since it very probably still applies to Xorg
(the BackingStore code didn't change for a while, and is still slow but
also buggy). Upstream bug #6663
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6663) is about rewriting
it based on Composite.

Bug#414275: xorg: X randomly crashes upon mouse click

2007-03-10 Thread Thibaut VARENE
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-13

happens from times to times, but I couldn't draw a pattern (it doesn't
happen often).

Attached is the Xorg.log from the latest crash, backtrace at the end of

Bug#414307: xnest: Crashes with client Tulip

2007-03-10 Thread J.P. Larocque
Package: xnest
Version: 2:1.1.1-20
Severity: important

Xnest consistently crashes with the application Tulip (Debian package
tulip, version 2.0.6-4). Simply create a new document.

Tulip on AMD64 also crashes xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-19 on i386
during the same operation. Tulip on i386 also crashes the same
version of xserver-xorg-core on i386. This could be considered a much
more serious problem when it crashes a real X server; thankfully it
can be reproduced with Xnest.

A backtrace from the core file left by the Xnest follows. Please let
me know if there's any particular detailed information I can give that
will help.

Core was generated by `Xnest -geometry 838x1029 -query synthetic-forms'.

Ah, OK, I didn't think of that. It would upset the tarball diff generation.

Speaking of which, now that it's restored (and renamed shorter) in
upstream-experimental, we'll have to rebuild the tarball from there. If
they don't manage to get it into final 1.3 upstream, it'll be in 1.4 at
least.

Problem with package xserver-xorg-video-savage

2007-03-10 Thread Jens Neubert
Hello my friend,

I own a Thinkpad T23 containing a Savage videocard. For a while, there is a
problem with dri and / or glx support. I already found the matching
bug-report on the net. It concerns Bug#393266 maybe also #390626.
Please, could you be so kind, and check this out for me (and all of the other
T23-owners) ?
I wonder that every month there is at least an update for the package
xserver-xorg-core or the dri / mesa subsystem, but no update for what's
needed in my special case.

Thank you very much in advance.

Here for you the error message when I run glxgears:

Bug#336997: xlibmesa-dri: having issues with driver not claiming to support visuals

Hello Brice

Yes, I did report it, but it seems to have been solved since that
time. I am still getting occasionally a message that 'visual 0x4b
is not supported' when I run opengl programs (stellarium, for instance).

The exact error message:
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b

Tim - what problems have you encountered?

I don't see any real issues (AFAICT acceleration is working fine within
the limits of the mga450 driver) and this unsupported visual error that
I still get from time to time is not causing, AFAICT, anything to go
wrong.
