It's been 5 years since I commented on this bug...

Although I still own a G200 card, I do no longer own any motherboard
supporting 3.3 V graphics cards for testing it.

But if you need it for trying to reproduce it, I can send it to you.

Bug#155291: xserver-xfree86: [trident] hardware cursor corrupted on CyberBlade/i1

I don't really use X on those old machines anymore, but...

MS-6368 (CyberBlade/i1): can't test, boards work in headless servers.

Compaq N100 (CyberBlade/i7d): Xorg defaults to SW cursor, so I guess
the problem is solved and it's OK to close the bug now.

Thanks,
Marek

Re: [RFC] Splitting/reorganizing xbase-clients & xutils

2007-05-05 Thread Timo Aaltonen

On Sat, 5 May 2007, Brice Goglin wrote:

(see http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2007-April/023355.html)

Are you planning to split the binary package only or also the source?

I hadn't thought of that, but as we spoke on #debian-x, we could use one
big source which then would generate binary bundles, with the exception
of xauth, xinit, xfs and xsm which use their own source packages?

Regarding what Fedora does, I don't see why we would have to split into
so many packages. Moving xauth in its own package seems important.
Splitting all tiny client from server utilities too. However, for
instance, I don't see why appres/editres/listres/viewres would need to
be in their own xbase-resutils, they could stay with xrdb or something
like that. Also the difference between xfonts-utils and xfs programs
does not look easy to understand.

Yes, here is the latest list (updated when something new comes up):

http://users.tkk.fi/~tjaalton/xbase-clients-split.txt

general consensus on #debian-x seemed to be that this looks pretty good
now. There are however some packages which are not in any of the new bundles.
Also, renaming xfonts-utils and xutils-dev was thought as too riski,
since there are too many reverse deps on them.

Further comments welcome :)

Hello,

It never really went away. That is, even with the latest (as of about one
month ago) version in unstable it was still present.

I was unable to get any help or pointers on the xorg mailing list so I
eventually gave up and bought a cheap Nvidia card. This machine is my MythTV
box and Myth has a couple of extra features on Nvidia cards (such as sync on
v-blank for TV-out).

The savage driver, at least on this particular chipset, also had a few other
issues including some corruption/artifacts with Xvideo playback and
instability with GL, so the upgrade was worth it.

Bug#422430: xserver-xorg: No keyboard input except for ctrl-alt-backspace

2007-05-05 Thread John David Anglin
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-18
Severity: normal

After starting X using any of gdm, kdm or xstart, keyboard wasn't
accepted. There were no errors in Xorg.0.log. However, I see stuff
like the following in kdm.log:

(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Sat May  5 14:43:39 2007
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
xkb_keycodes { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)" };
xkb_types{ include "complete" };
xkb_compatibility{ include "complete" };
xkb_symbols  { include "pc(pc105)+us" };
xkb_geometry { include "pc(pc104)" };
expected keysym, got XF86_Switch_VT_1: line 8 of xfree86
expected keysym, got XF86_Switch_VT_2: line 11 of xfree86
...
expected keysym, got XF86_Next_VMode: line 266 of keypad
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Link points to "/var/tmp/kdecache-root"
Qt: Locales not supported on X server
QInputContext: no input method context available
QInputContext: no input method context available

Finally, I realized that the problem was with the files in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11. I created the following links to resolve
the problem:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 May  5 16:54 XErrorDB ->
/usr/share/X11/XErrorDB
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 May  5 16:53 XKeysymDB ->
/usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 May  5 16:56 fonts -> /usr/share/fonts/X11
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 May  5 16:57 icons -> /usr/share/icons
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Apr 26  2006 twm -> /etc/X11/twm

It's possible that this problem was created in migrating from xfree86
to xorg. However, reinstallation of the xorg server didn't fix the
problem.

Hello Brice!

Actually I do not really *need* it. I just read somewhere that its the
successor of XAA and supposed to be faster.

As for Amarok and Kaffeine XAA is certainly fast enough and I did not see
a clear difference as I switched to EXA from XAA due to the issue I
reported here anyway, I do not demand that this issue will be fixed ;)

But I can give it a spin anyway. Am a bit curious at last ;-)

The new package with all upstream fixes has just been uploaded, it
should be in unstable for i386 tomorrow (it's in incoming.debian.org
right now).

There are several fixes regarding EXA but I don't know whether it's bug
fixes or a performance fixes (see [1]). Why do you need EXA exactly? It
might be good for compositing (compiz, beryl, ...) but I am not sure it
could bring much improvement in other cases.

I did not try with EXA anymore. That T23 now is my Amarok machine and I do
my daily work with a T42 with ATI radeon, so I didn't bother to try
again.

I can try again tough - but I would prefer a Debian binary package. Is EXA
supposed to be faster?

Package: xserver-xorg-video-savage
Version: 1:2.1.2-1
Severity: important

Hello,

while 2.1.2-1 apparently fixes bug 389404 + 389794, 2d graphic operations
are quite slow with it compared to 2.0.2.3-4 of the driver.

glxgears shows the gears again but it is flickering a lot... After
quitting it it shows the following message:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-savage -> glxgears
libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer failed (Invalid argument)
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

I tried 6.5.0.cvs.20060524-1.1 of libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx,
libglu1-mesa and then I updated 6.5.1.

Scrolling in Konqueror, KMail, Firefox and other apps is quite slow.
Scrolling in Konsole is still fast. Scrolling was really fast with
version 2.0.2.3-4 of the driver

My xorg.conf Driver section:

Section "Device"
Identifier  "Savage"
Driver  "savage"
BusID   "PCI:1:0:0"
Option  "Accel" "True"
# Acceleration
Option  "AccelMethod" "exa"
# Hardware-Cursor
Option  "HWCursor" "True"
# AGP: Should be able to do 4x
Option  "AGPMode" "4"
# Powermanagement: Don't know whether this works with the savage
Option  "DynamicClocks" "True"
# For AROS http://www.aros.org
Option  "BackingStore" "True"
EndSection

I also tried without AccelMethod exa, without DynamicClocks and without
BackingStore - no change.

This is on an IBM ThinkPad T23 with

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. SuperSavage IX/C SDR (rev 05)

Martin

Bug#390630: xorg hangs on logout when used with this driver

2007-05-05 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

Does this bug about Xorg hanging on logout on a Savage board still
occur? If so, it might be fixed upstream by commit [1]. If you happen to
have a chance to test this patch, please let us know if it helps. We
will be backporting this fix in the next upload of the 2.1.2 driver
anyway (you might want to build our git repo [2]).

Bug#407199: xserver-xorg-video-savage: (II) SAVAGE(0): [drm] drmSetBusid failed

2007-05-05 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi Pascal,

The patch that you were referring to in bugzilla.freedesktop.org seems
to already be included in the savage driver that you were using (2.1.2) [1].

Do you still get the following error?
(II) SAVAGE(0): [drm] DRM interface version 1.0
(II) SAVAGE(0): [drm] drmSetBusid failed (9, pci::01:00.0),
Permission denied
(EE) SAVAGE(0): [drm] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.
(EE) SAVAGE(0): DRI isn't enabled

I don't think it could be related to a gcc version mismatch between the
kernel and drm driver module since both are built and shipped within the
same package. If you compiled your own kernel, you should check that
drm, savage and agp modules are compiled loaded. Also check that
permissions on /dev/dri/* are ok? (should be 666 from your xorg.conf)

Right, we also had a report about this /usr/lib/X11/fonts needing to be
replaced with /usr/share/fonts. One way or another, this had to be
fixed, merging.

Getting DRI working with the Savage driver in this package is not
documented very well. The main problem I had was that I had not
installed libgl1-mesa-dri, which contains savage_dri.so that is
necessary for DRI acceleration. I would like to add a Suggests: on this
package to control, and I have also documented how to debug these
problems in a new README.Debian for this package. Please could you
consider adding this to the package?

I haven't made libgl1-mesa-dri a Recommends: because it is quite a large
package, and xserver-xorg-video-savage is often installed on machines
where it is not needed.

the savage video driver. Did any of you guys reproduce this problem
recently? With Xorg/Etch?
If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.

Thanks,
Brice

This is still perfectly reproducible in etch. I've even tried without
drm enabled now.

Note that ico, xcalc, xdbedizzy, xditview, xedit, xgc, xman, xmore might
be dropped by upstream in the future
(see http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2007-April/023355.html)

Are you planning to split the binary package only or also the source?

Regarding what Fedora does, I don't see why we would have to split into
so many packages. Moving xauth in its own package seems important.
Splitting all tiny client from server utilities too. However, for
instance, I don't see why appres/editres/listres/viewres would need to
be in their own xbase-resutils, they could stay with xrdb or something
like that. Also the difference between xfonts-utils and xfs programs
does not look easy to understand.

my 2 cents...

Bug#420679: wrong screensize

2007-05-05 Thread David Weinehall
This is not limited to NVidia either; I get the same problem with the
intel-driver.

When I start X on my x60s from the dock (where I also have an external
screen connected), both the internal and external display will get the
resolution from the external display; before it'd use the resolution of
the internal display. This is highly annoying, since the external
display has higher resolution than the internal. So when I undock again
I'm left with a laptop that I cannot use in a sane manner because 25% or
so of the desktop is outside of the physical screen.

The only way to get it working is to start the X when undocked, then
dock and run xrandr --auto; that way the external display is properly
enabled at the same resolution as the internal display.
