Bug#355125: i810 X server dies with Active ring not flushed error
I installed the version you mentioned right away, it ran fine up until today, when it crashed again. Eric On Fri, 29 Jun 2007 19:30:29 +0200 Brice Goglin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Eric wrote: It still happens occasionally (once every 2 weeks), so I waited to get a fresh crash before replying. It only has the fatal error when running firefox (and now when running ice-weasel). Attached is the log of the latested crash. Ok, thanks. I see you are running a regular Debian 2.6.18 kernel with xserver-xorg-core 1.3. If you didn't already try, you could possibly try xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental, but I don't really expect much. There are very few i810 chipsets out there, so it's unlikely to be fixed. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1794 seems to talk about the same problem, with 2.6.8 or .9 kernels. I'll post a comment there. Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I just got an AGP one, and noticed that I didn't have the XVideo extension. The patch is against XFree86 4.2.0. Previous discussion was here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2004/04/msg00391.html . You asked for a unified-diff version of the patch, so first I'm making a unified-diff patch against XFree86 4.2.0. That file (and a little more info) is available here: http://paulproteus.acm.jhu.edu/mga-x/ I also made a patch against the current Debian x.org package. That is also available at the above URL. He offers the whole mga_video.c file for download; it looks like my patch against X.org reverts some good stuff like endianness fixes. Can I ask you to clean that up? You surely know X better than I do. Read the readme.txt to see how I generated the files; make sure I didn't doo anything too dumb. Thanks! Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 Severity: normal X worked fine until I rebooted after running today's etch upgrade, and now it won't start. The Xorg.0.log gives details, but basically we get an INVALID MEM ALLOCATION warning, and later a message to the effect that xf86RegisterResources() found resource conflicts. Then I have started another X server on vt8 with: startx -display :1 -- :1 -depth 16 -nolisten tcp -verbose 5 -logverbose 5 And I typed a command to initiate scrolling action into xterm on vt8: $ cd ~ $ ls -R After switching back (CTRL-ALT-F7) and forth (CTRL-ALT-F8) a few times, the second X server could not restore the screen (see below). With the scrolling action above, it can be reproduced at once. The first screen (desktop) could be restored every time, no problem here. Effect: Black screen, grey line strokes (about 20 pixels wide) are drawn horizontally, with a big offset left black. Visual appearance: Columns full of line strokes, about every tenth line, alternating pattern: full - dotted (4 dots). Smooth scrolling of the whole screen upwards, as if it is a corrupted font which is drawn continuously. Other effects: Lower part of the screen blue, blue line strokes (full and dotted) are drawn. No black background, a pattern is drawn (colors not changing horizontally per block), moving down row per row. With nvidia driver 1.0.8178: same effect. With Xorg 6.8.2/nvidia 1.0.8178: no problems. It is a regression. I usually use gpm in repeater mode (-Rmsc) with the MouseSystems protocol. Specifically, Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse0 Driver mouse Option Device /dev/gpmdata Option Protocol MouseSystems Option Resolution 300 EndSection and gpm config is: device=/dev/input/mice responsiveness= repeat_type=msc type=imps2 append='' sample_rate= I did an apt-get dist-upgrade last night (for the first time in a few days), which I believe included an X upgrade. I'm not sure if it included a gpm upgrade. When I started the machine this morning, at X startup the mouse cursor started at the middle of the screen as usual, but as soon as I moved it, it would jump to the right edge, then scroll either up or down and remain stuck in the bottom-right or top-right corner. I can work around this by disabling gpm and switching my config to: Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse0 Driver mouse Option Device /dev/input/mice Option Protocol Auto Option Resolution 300 EndSection I tried to switch the repeating protocol to ms (microsoft) mode gave the same result as msc. I'm happy to provide any further information. This is on a Mac PowerBook G4, kernel 2.6.15, though I wouldn't think this problem would be platform-specific :) Thanks very much, dustin. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/xfree86/X.roster: xserver-xfree86 xserver-xorg /etc/X11/X target unchanged from checksum in /var/lib/xfree86/X.md5sum. Bug#347149: gnome-control-center: U.S. English keyboard options are confusing
gnome-keyboard-properties includes the following five options for keyboard layout (among others): - U.S. English - International (with dead keys) - U.S. English w/ dead keys - U.S. English w/ ISO9995-3 - Eliminate dead keys I don't really have any idea how these differ; how is U.S. English International (with dead keys) different from U.S. English w/ dead keys? Does U.S. English w/ ISO9995-3 have dead keys? Why are these five options grouped in three sections, instead of together in one? Also, I know what dead keys are, but if I didn't, Gnome wouldn't tell me (although Google will). I don't know what ISO9995-3 is, and in this case, Google is no help either. A picture of the keyboard is displayed with each option, but it appears to be the same, giving no basis for choosing one layout over another. It would be very helpful if someone who understands how these keyboard layouts differ renamed them in Gnome to make the choices clear. It would also be helpful if Gnome included an explanation of dead keys. Hi, This bug report has been forwarded to the upstream developers. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libx11-6 Version: 2:1.0.3-7 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software After upgrading libx11-6 to the security update as in version 1.0.3-7 made opera segfault every time I tried to start it. Downgrading to version 1.0.3-6 fixes it. Yes, I know that opera isn't open source, but I marked this bug critical because if the patch for the security fix causes opera to segfault, something looks _fishy_ with this patch and could propably cause other applications to break, too. But feel free to downgrade the severity of this bug, if you think the problem is inside opera. I will probably fill a bugreport for opera, too, which includes a link to this bugreport. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages libx11-6 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libx11-data 2:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.1-2X11 authorisation library ii libxdmcp6 1:1.0.1-2X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii x11-common 1:7.1.0-16 X Window System (X.Org) infrastruc libx11-6 recommends no packages. -- debconf information: libx11-6/migrate_xkb_dir: true ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- On Sat, Apr 7, 2007 at 09:07:17 +0300, Atte Karkimo wrote: The bug has been marked RESOLVED NOTOURBUG upstream, and already fixed in the latest Opera build. KDE applications are closed, the desktop vanishes, the mousepointer vanishes and then it hangs. No Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and not Ctrl-Alt-F1 yields any result. The machine is still pingable. This hang only happens on regular logout. Stopping xorg with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace still seems to work. Bug#428089: marked as done (xserver-xorg-video-savage: consoles black or corrupted after X shutdown)

Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: xserver-xorg-video-savage Version: 1:2.1.2-5 Severity: normal After I log out from a X session, the virtual consoles are unusable. Either I see coloured lines (same colours as my desktop background) or it's all black. The same happens when I run startx from a console and log out from X again. If I instead switch to a console and run /etc/init.d/gdm stop, they are fine. But if I switch to a console and run sleep 10; kill pid of x-session-manager and then switch back to X before the killing, they go bad. So it seems to me they get corrupted if I am on the X screen when X goes down. If I am on a console when X goes down, there are no problems. (I have also tested with savage git from 20070512, same same) -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/x11/X.roster: xserver-xorg /etc/X11/X target does not match checksum in /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum.
