The case where selectToClipboard is set for the copying xterm, but not on the pasting seems to work OK. hmm - I'm not seeing it working at all (which makes it more interesting). I'm using this as a wrapper: I'm still not reproducing just the case you're seeing, but adding a -k8 option does let me select/paste Greek text. Yes, this works OK for me. As you noted in the bug report, the report mentioning the allowC1Printable resource is relevant. Running in just a el_GR locale, that's a different encoding from ISO-8859-1. The sending xterm sends the selection as a UTF8_STRING, and the receiving xterm (if allowC1Printable is false) attempts to read that selection data into a Latin-1 string, and replaces non-Latin-1 by #'s. as an aside: The sending xterm makes the selection available in one or more flavors. UTF8_STRING happens to hold the most information, and is offered first by xterm if it's compiled for wide-characters. But xterm can be (as of #243) told to provide the flavors in a different order, or only certain flavors. The receiving xterm tries each flavor which is presented, until it finds one that works. For the UTF8_STRING, if -k8 is given, the xterm bypasses that branch, and either decodes it with XmbTextPropertyToTextList, or skips that flavor and accepts a STRING, which (using XmbTextPropertyToTextList) works in the current locale. The two menu settings (Keep Selection and Select to Clipboard) control how the sending xterm makes the selection available. Here's a quick summary of the debug log: KeepSelecton SelectToClipboard flavor no no UTF8_STRING yes no UTF8_STRING no yesSTRING yes yesSTRING I think that maybe it is a good time for me to finally switch to UTF8 :-) Thanks, -- Kornilios Kourtis ---End Message---

Bug#529651: Should have means of generating xorg.conf file for those who dislike automatic stuff
Hi Wouter, I agree that there's a need for an xorg.conf editor. Xorg -configure is probably the best we've got right now to generate a template config, and that doesn't quite cut it. We'd want something that could only add to the config the minimum needed for whatever the user needs to customize. However, I don't believe that the xserver-xorg package is necessarily the place for this. (Regarding the particular issue of needing to set Virtual to be able to extend the desktop, this will be fixed shortly when moving to dri2; the framebuffer can then be resized at runtime.) Bug#529798: pm-utils: Cluttered text after resuming from hibernation
reassign 529798 xserver-xorg-video-intel retitle 529798 [uxa] glyph corruption after resuming from hibernation kthxbye On Thu, May 21, 2009 at 20:06:15 +0200, Michael Biebl wrote: After resuming from hibernation, text in iceweasel and other applications get cluttered (as shown in the screenshot below), it seems that only some fonts are affected while others are fine. http://imgur.com/arbib.png The problem goes away after restarting X, but that would make hibernation pointless. I have UXA enabled in my xorg.conf: Option AccelMethod uxa not sure if this matters. Well, try without it... In any case, we'll need the full X log and config. You could also try to reproduce with the intel driver in experimental. Cheers, Julien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#529830: Only fixed intermittently
Apparently reverting a5597cbf9c7573a247788a5c3b33ca872dd3bd10 only fixes the bug intermittently. Adding DontZap off, makes Ctrl-Alt-Backspace rescue it only intermittently, and the kernel doesn't always respond. May be that a5597cbf9c7573a247788a5c3b33ca872dd3bd10 isn't the culprit after all. -- Chanoch (Ken) Bloom. PhD candidate. Linguistic Cognition Laboratory. Department of Computer Science. Re: status of the 7.4 transition
Thanks for managing this Julien. Julien Cristau wrote: On the second point I'm not quite sure: - xorg-server has one outstanding serious bug, #508476: when xserver-xorg-video-fbdev is installed and you have no xorg.conf, X FatalErrors for no good reason. Should this be a blocker? Anything else? Yuck. One thing we might want to do is install an empty xorg.conf by default. Since the codepaths for no xorg.conf and empty xorg.conf are slightly different, this might help us. If we can get a bug reporter to confirm that this solves the issue then it'd be a simple fix. It's also in line with where things need to go, since eventually no/empty xorg.conf needs to be just a special case for the partial-config setup. - David Nusinow -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
