Bug#577769: xserver-xorg-core: ignores /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ in the presence of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.7.6-2 Severity: important Hi If /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is in use, it does not augment the package preconfiguration in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/, but totally ignores the contents of /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ - thereby breaking essential preconfiguration like 05-evdev.conf and killing keyboard/ mouse support in X. My system does not use a /etc/X11/xorg.conf anymore, but I nevertheless need to configure my dual-screen setup for radeon through the attached /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-device.conf. With today's upload of xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-5, evdev starts to depend on the (new) preconfiguration in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/05-evdev.conf, but due to the presence of my custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-device.conf, xserver-xorg-core never attempts to load 05-evdev.conf (or 10-vmmouse.conf for that matter). $ LANG=C ls -al /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/: total 12 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 14 12:30 . drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 4096 Apr 9 14:44 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 354 Apr 9 14:48 20-device.conf /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/: total 20 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 14 12:01 . drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Apr 11 03:07 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 946 Apr 13 18:02 05-evdev.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 102 Apr 13 18:16 10-vmmouse.conf To temporarily unbreak my system, I've added a symlink for 05-evdev.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/, but this would be very fragile in regards to future evdev updates and/ or other packages switching to distribution defaults stored in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ ln -s ../../../usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/05-evdev.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/05-evdev.conf Regards Stefan Lippers-Hollmann Post scriptum: As an unrelated side note, I'd suggest adding /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/*.conf and ls -al /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ to the bug templates. -- Package-specific info: /var/lib/x11/X.roster does not exist. /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum does not exist. Bug#577769: xserver-xorg-core: ignores /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ in the presence of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
severity 577769 wishlist kthxbye On Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 13:24:03 +0200, Stefan Lippers-Hollmann wrote: If /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is in use, it does not augment the package preconfiguration in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/, but totally ignores the contents of /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ - thereby breaking essential preconfiguration like 05-evdev.conf and killing keyboard/ mouse support in X. So use xorg.conf instead of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d. Cheers, Julieb signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#576719: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: multitouch emulation stopped working
1. Le mardi 13 avril 2010 à 18:15 +0200, Julien Cristau a écrit : On Wed, Apr 7, 2010 at 21:13:54 +0200, Julien Valroff wrote: After checking carefully the aptitude log, I have found that xserver-xorg-{core,common} were updated yesterday morning. This part of the changelog might be of interest: * 15-keep-udev-x11-driver.diff: keep looking for the x11_driver udev property as a transitional measure. This should allow the new server to work while drivers aren't transitioned to xorg.conf.d yet. After downgrading these packages to the previous version (2:1.7.6-1), things work fine again. I hence reassign this bug to xserver-xorg-core (feel free to change it if that's not right). To xserver-xorg-core maintainers: my local udev rules file which lets me set the correct options to the synaptics driver doesn't seem to be taken into account in the last version available in sid, despite the 15-keep-udev-x11-driver.diff patch. Not a bug, the x11_options in udev is now ignored. Use xorg.conf to set options, using an InputClass section with e.g. the MatchIsTouchpad option (see the xorg.conf manpage and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Input_device_configuration). Thanks a lot Julien, it now works - I missed the MatchIsTouchpad option in my first tests. Cheers, Julien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#577769: xserver-xorg-core: ignores /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ in the presence of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/

Thankfully I only had a small upgraded set of packages on this day so the culprit was fairly obvious, and I was able to boot to runlevel 3 and a downgrade to the testing package got me going temporarily. I also don't use an /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but I have a config in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ for my synaptics touchpad to enable tapping. Please consider resetting the severity to higher than wishlist. Bug#577769: xserver-xorg-core: ignores /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ in the presence of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/

Then move it from xorg.conf.d to xorg.conf. Problem solved. We'll consider allowing xorg.conf.d, and worst case it will be there with xserver 1.8 after squeeze, but this is still wishlist. Bug#577279: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: no synaptics functionality after sid update
I too have this problem. Downgrading xserver-xorg-input-evdev to 1:2.3.2-4 fixed the touchpad (but broke the keyboard). I don't have an xorg.conf file at all, is it possible to set the AutoServerLayout setting in some other way? e.g., udev. I'll have a play and see. But either way, this still shouldn't behave as it currently does without an xorg.conf file. dc -- David Purton dcpur...@marshwiggle.net For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. 2 Chronicles 16:9a signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#577724: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Fail to start Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. when laptop's LID closed
Hi. Frank Lin PIAT fp...@klabs.be (14/04/2010): I have an anoying problem when I close my laptop lid during the computer startup (i.e between grub and Xorg initialisation): Xorg fails to start. Restarting gdm with the laptop lid open works. What do you expect it to do? Start and display stuff on displays that aren't connected? Feel free to report that upstream with your suggestions anyway (bonus points if you leave a pointer here to your upstream bugreport). Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#577831: xserver-xorg: touchpad settings were reset after upgrade to 1:7.5+5
Hi, Yevgeny Kosarzhevsky phao...@gmail.com (15/04/2010): I've just upgraded and touchpad stopped to function properly - my settings all lost. I've tried synclient -l but it shows: Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded? as a wild guess, same issue as detailed in #577279 I just closed; wait a few hours (until the fixed package is available on the mirrors) and upgrade your -synaptics package, that should fix your issue. Bug#577769: xserver-xorg-core: ignores /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ in the presence of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
Hi Julien, The manpage xorg.conf(5) gives a impression that all configuration files will be searched, in a sane order. Combine the InputClass sections' description, users will think: okay, I can override the default settings by adding files to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d Because other conf.d, rules.d, etc. have this kind of usage. But the Xorg's behavior is rather surprising. Regards, Kanru pgpgiWsV5IttR.pgp Description: PGP signature
