xterm-275

2011-09-11 Thread Thomas Dickey
Patch #275 - 2011/09/11

 * add ash, zsh to known shells for resize.
 * modify resize to reuse the logic from xterm which determines the
   actual logon-user's shell if $SHELL is not set.
 * revert the unsetenv("SHELL") added in patch #272.
 * an unsetenv("SHELL") added in patch #272 to help ensure that luit
   would get the user's shell consistently did not work as expected
   for cases where multiple names are in the password-file for a given
   uid. That was because changes in patch #157 to handle this
   situation did not take into account that repeated calls to getpwnam
   and getpwuid return a pointer to the same static buffer. Fixed the
   older logic to work as intended, by ensuring that the passwd-data
   from each call is stored separately (report by Paul Keusemann).
 * adjust ifdef's for putenv and unsetenv in case only one of those is
   provided on a given platform.
 * correct comparison used in ExposeContains macro from patch #274
   changes, to handle window-dragging (patch by Todd Eigenschink).

Bug#636135: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: Logout of KDE gives black screen with pointer still visible.

2011-09-11 Thread oz

I have that session logout problem on this platform:

* AMD E-350 cpu with AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics
* Debian/wheezy
* KDE 4

The mouse-cursor works after session-logout, but on a black background.
In the middle of the screen, where the login-window would be, the
cursor-symbol changes. So the display-manager is still running in the
background.

But there is _no_ problem to lock the desktop and to login again.

 But I think I already did that:

# grep terminate /etc/default/keyboard
XKBOPTIONS="lv3:ralt_switch,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

 Trying with no xorg.conf and:

# grep terminate /etc/default/keyboard
XKBOPTIONS="terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

 still no luck, maybe a kfreebsd bug?

 Hmm, /usr/share/doc/xloadimage/copyright says:

src.doc.ic.ac.uk:/packages/X11/R5contrib/xloadimage.4.1.tar.gz

 src.doc.ic.ac.uk don't seem to answer on http nor ftp, and

http://www.x.org/wiki/Development/BuildingX?action=fullsearch&context=180&value=xloadimage&titlesearch=Titles

 says "Your search query "xloadimage" didn't return any results."
 So, upstream don't seem to be within xorg.

thanks for your research; the best place to get that merged is upstream,
though, so it would be nice if you could suggest that there:

Bug#641197: libxft2: Include Ubuntu LCD filter patch

2011-09-11 Thread James Robertson
Package: libxft2
Version: 2.2.0-3
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

xft does not utilise the lcdfilter option. An example is when using
Openbox and GTK2 based apps with the following configuration in
~/fonts.conf.

   lcddefault

The result is that the fonts rendered by Openbox look slightly different to
those rendered by GTK2.

I researched and found that Ubuntu had added a patch in the following version
that utilises lcdfilter:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xft/xft_2.1.14-2ubuntu1.diff.gz

I tested the patch on 2.2.0-3 and it has worked well and my Window Manager
fonts now look the same as GTK2.

(I guess it's not the usual upower bug, with flickering happening every
30 seconds or so. I think it only appeared with wheezy/sid and got fixed
since then.)

For “recent” hardware, I'd suggest trying Xorg squeeze-backports[1],
along with a Linux kernel coming from the same repository. I guess it's
a better mid-term solution than dealing with your vanilla kernel on your
own.

Crash or freeze then? If that's a crash, please attach a relevant log.
If that's a freeze, it'd be nice to figure out where it's stuck (gdb
might help).

X server zapping

2011-09-11 Thread Karl Hammar
 How do I make the X server zappable?

 Doing dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration as indicated by [1], did
 not help, nor did

# cat xorg.conf
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "DontZap""off"
EndSection
#

 This is a newly installed kfreebsd i386 system:

# cat debian_version
6.0.2
#

///

 For the record, makeing X start up with a black root window makes it
 harder to check if it is on, I cannot even see the mouse moving.

 Yes, I know I can do

# DISPLAY=:0.0 xloadimage -default

 BTW, the man page for xloadimage(1x) is not updated, under "-default",
 xsetroot is not the as xloadimage -default any longer.
