It seems I wrote that too fast. After downgrading I switched it back to OpenGL
and it said something like "OpenGL is disabled, because it crashed. If you
think you have working version now, save all your work and click this to retry
it. Warning, might crash immediately." So it was selected, but apparently
wasn't actually used.

Yes, it does. The frame-rate was as expected and it decreased when I enlarged
the window to full screen exactly as it does when everything works.

Bug#457925: xserver-xorg: Starts in bogus video mode

I made one more test and with proper HorizSync and VertRefresh settings,
neither modeline nor modes are needed. Without PreferredMode the monitor is
however still set to quite a bad value even with the correct settings.

That implies, that the autodetected values are wrong and the mode set as
prefered is not in the auto-generated list, so it needed to be forced into
the list. Is there any way to look at the values X server autodetects?
Though, this monitor is rather old, so it might simply report incorrect
values.

By the way, it would be nice to add a question to debconf configuration to
set the preferred mode with comment that users can leave it blank if the
autodetection works right for them and set it if it does not.

Thanks,

Jan

Hm, but in fact it was the other way round. Which actually makes more sense,
because Modeline was not needed since quite long ago.

I however had to add *both* Modes and PreferredMode to make it work.
PreferredMode by itself didn't work.

Ah, I actually even saw that, but did not realize it is applicable. As
written, I understood it as /only/ being of interest if I use multiple
monitors -- which I don't. So please mention it affects video mode
configuration in all cases.

Bug#457925: xserver-xorg: Starts in bogus video mode

2007-12-27 Thread Jan Hudec
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+8
Severity: normal

Hello,

Since last update (might have been xserver-xorg 7.3+8 or xserver-xorg-core
2:1.4.1~git20071212-2) the server started starting in ugly videomode
(1280x768), which was not selected in Modes display subsection and does not
make any sense for 4:3 CRT monitor.

I had to set the PreferredMode option in Monitor section to get the correct
video mode back. I also had to create the Display subsection with mode list.

Additionally, I had to add the Modeline statement, because otherwise the mode
was initialized with vsync 60Hz, which is just too slow. This might have been
caused by not including the refresh rate intervals, that were there in the
previous config.

Would you please be so kind and at least include explanation of how to
override the videomode autoconfiguration if it's unsuitable somewhere in
README.Debian or NEWS.Debian?

Thanks.

Note: I modified the info below to include both the current and previous
xorg.conf, so you can compare.

Bug#248453: [mga] SEGV when running crack-attack on MGA G450

Yes, it now longer segfaults with direct rendering enabled.

On the other hand, ti started segfaulting with direct rendering DISABLED, but
that shouldn't be mga driver fault (I sometimes have one X server running in
background and start another, which does not get direct rendering then, so
there it fails).

Bug#248453: xlibmesa-dri: Segfaults crack-attack on matrox.

2004-05-11 Thread Jan Hudec
Package: xlibmesa-dri
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1
Severity: normal

Since I installed XFree86 4.3, crack-attack crashes. It does not crash when
direct rendering is disabled, though, so it looks like a bug in direct
rendering.

In gdb it looks that the stack is corrupt, but I have not recompiled with
debugging. However, gdb claims the top frame is mallopt from glibc.

I have a MGA450 graphic card and use Matrox driver BETA3.0. I tried both
mga_drv.o from Matrox and from XFree, but that makes no difference. The
mga_hal_drv.o from Matrox is necessary to get direct rendering. Matrox does not
provide dri/mga_drv.so for XFree 4.3, so I now use the one from xlibmesa-dri,
while before I used the one from Matrox.

I am willing to provide more additional information you may ask for.

Yes... complains that it can't load it, but comes up. With new version

Did you see mga_hal in the config? I did not. Thus I don't know how to
avoid it... (It's MGA450 and the mga driver does not support it without
mga_hal). But I'll update it.

Is there 4.2.0 binary somewhere (that I can install without making too

Did you see mga_hal in the config? I did not. Thus I don't know how to
avoid it... (It's MGA450 and the mga driver does not support it without
mga_hal). But I'll update it.

Is there 4.2.0 binary somewhere (that I can install without making too
much mess)?

[FATAL] XFree86 4.2.1-3 deletes all modes and crashes

2002-11-04 Thread Jan Hudec
Hello All,

I just upgraded xserver and tryed to restart, but it crashed on
SEGFAULT. I did not touch the config file (well, then I changed the
refresh-rate limits in monitor section to match values I saw in old
logs - the old X server ignored the config and used I2C somehow...).

I include the new log and some old one and the config file.

Please, CC me, I am not on the list.

PS: Is there some archive I can get the older version from?
