Bug#861996: black screen on X VT after suspend/resume on Thinkpad X121e

2017-05-07 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.19.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

since I updated my Debian unstable on May 4 (and kernel to 4.11), my
X121 does not have useable X any more after a suspend/resume cycle. The
VT X is running on is black, no cursor, no nothing. I can switch VTs to
a "text" VT and work there, and I can restart X, but my X session is
lost.

I went back to kernel 4.10.12, the kernel that was working with
suspend/resume and X, and the bug was still there.

I am therefore pretty sure that this issue has been introduced in Debian
proper, between Apr 23 (when I did an unstable update for the last time)
and May 4.

The Xorg.0.log contains a suspend at timestamp and a resume 30
seconds later, followed by switches back and forth between VT 2 and VT 7
(X) in ~ 30 second intevals.

If there is anything I can help in debugging, please let me know.

Greetings
Marc

As pointed out, that's a hack. More clear is this (untested) patch,
which will honor STARTSSH pulled in from, e.g. .xsessionrc

Bug#614222: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: falls to wrong horizontal resolution after starting wine application

2011-02-20 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.14.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I just tried to start my newsreader (forte agent using wine), when X
decided that its memory layout was different and started to draw less
pixels per line than the display has (http://twitpic.com/41un09).

Suspend-and-resume, which usually fixes issues of this type, didn't
help here, I had to kill and restart the X server.

Greetings

No change. Neither does anything change when I remove the

It has become really hard to follow the changes of X.org configuration
methods lately. I am completely lost whether X is currently not
configured at all, via a monolithic xorg.conf, via xorg.conf.d, via
XML .fdi files somewhere or via udev rules.

Bug#568111: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: no KDE4 compositing/desktop effects after suspend-to-disk

No. With radeon.modeset=1, my system crashes immediately on boot (see
kernel bugzilla #15736), therefore I cannot try with KMS enabled.

Additionally, current KDE doesn't allow desktop effects to be enabled
with current X, falls back to Compositing disabled immediately
without giving meaningful log entries. I'm filing a new bug to this
matter.

Feel free to close this bug.

Bug#577279: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: no synaptics functionality after sid update

2010-04-11 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have converted my synaptics touchpad configuration to the udev
scheme a few weeks ago and it used to work. After the latest sid
update, I lost the synaptics functionality, especially scrolling.

In Xorg.0.log, I see
(II) config/udev: Adding input device PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
(/dev/input/event6)
(**) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: always reports core events
(**) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Device: /dev/input/event6
(II) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Found 3 mouse buttons
(II) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Found relative axes
(II) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Found x and y relative axes
(II) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Configuring as mouse
(**) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: YAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5
(**) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: EmulateWheelButton: 4, EmulateWheelInertia: 10,
EmulateWheelTimeout: 200
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (type:
MOUSE)
(II) PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: initialized for relative axes.
(II) config/udev: Adding input device PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
(/dev/input/mouse0)
(II) No input driver/identifier specified (ignoring)

and synclient -l says Unable to find a synaptics device. The pad
works as a regular mouse though.

Am I doing something wrong?

Greetings
Marc

Bug#577279: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: no synaptics functionality after sid update

2010-04-11 Thread Marc Haber
Hi again,

I have removed things from my xorg.conf, diabled the udev and fdi
rule, and have established a new file in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics. Now, synclient -l gives a new error
message, Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver
loaded? The xorg.log suggests, however, that the synaptics touchpad
is correctly detected.

I am attaching my new xorg.conf, the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics, and the xorg.log.

Greetings
Marc

 Ping?

If not fixed, can you try with 6.12.191 in experimental,
 and maybe with KMS too?

A long time has passed and things have changed:

(1)
After setting ColorTiling off, I haven't seen the issue again.

(2)
I have changed hardware in the mean time, and the new box, with a
M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5200], doesn't show the issue even with
ColorTiling enabled

(3)
I will be back on the old hardware probably over the easter weekend

(4)
KMS gives me a truckload of other troubles which I haven't fully
understood yet, so I have disabled KMS for the time being.

Feel free to close this bug report. I can re-open it when I see the
issue again.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#564880: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: fails to properly handle, enlargement of vertical screen size

2010-01-13 Thread Marc Haber
Hi,

Not yet. I will do when I encounter the situation again.

I'm asking because I have a corruption that looks similar to your
screenshot and could be fixed by ColorTiling=off, but I was able take
a screenshot with the Gimp, and I'd like to know whether it's the same
 issue.

Probably, I am running with ColorTiling=off at the moment.

That doesn't work on my system. The xorg.conf approach worked though.

The connector, as I found out in the mean time, is not proprietary,

I have replaced the G550 with a nVidia Card in the mean time and

Unfortunately, my programming skills are not enough to do this.

You should be able to call xrandr only twice here. One to get the output
and save it (and apply sed multiple times to compute OUTPUTLIST), and
one to pass --auto for all outputs and set their position.

How would that call look like?

xrandr --output VGA-0 --auto --left-of LVDS --output LVDS --auto?

If so, this possibility should be mentioned in the manual page.

2007-12-09 Thread Marc Haber
Package: x11-xserver-utils
Version: 7.3+2

Hi,

when invoked, xrandr does detection of hardware capabilities and
connected monitors. This takes a few seconds to complete.

I have a script, xrandrauto, which invokes xrandr multiple times to
create the screen layout that I want to have. However, this script
takes like 30 seconds since xrandr repeats the detection process over
and over.

Please consider adding an option to disable the hardware detection and
to use whatever was detected the last time.

Bug#444739: xserver-xorg-video-mga: infinite loops once in a while

2007-09-30 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xorg-video-mga
Version: 1:1.9.99.dfsg.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am running unstable on a newly installed system. Graphics card is a
Matrox G450 Dual Head, with two TFT displays connected via VGA. The
xserver-xorg-video-mga is the version from experimental.

Once in a while, the driver gets into an endless loop: X takes all
available CPU, does not react any more, and is not killable.

When SIGKILL is finally used, sometimes the entire system crashes.

This is also in upstream bugzilla, #12627.

Sorry, no dependency information as I am filing this bug from a
different system.

Greetings

2007-05-23 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xephyr

Hi,

I am using the command line

Xephyr -query localhost :1 -ac -screen 1200x900

to start a second KDE session under a second account. It frequently
happens that the keyboard gets mixed up in a way that a normal
character key emits a capital letter while a shifted character key
emits a lower case letter. Special character keys work normally, and
all the caps lock / shift lock key does it switching the keyboard
light on and off. There seems to be no way to get out of this (at
least I haven't found it yet) without terminating Xephyr.

This might be corelated with the error message

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
Warning: Type ONE_LEVEL has 1 levels, but RALT has 2 symbols

In my main KDE session, keyboard layout changing works fine.

If you start an empty session in Xephyr, is the keyboard layout
behaving as in an empty session in X?

The phenomenon happens only after working in the Xephyrized X session
for a while, so it will be hard to simulate it without KDE

Do you have other keyboard settings, such as xmodmap in .xsession?

Not that I am aware of.

Bug#252585: xfree86-common: Xsession.options parsing fragile

2004-06-04 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xfree86-common
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-4
Severity: minor

Hi,

I just tried to introduce a new Xsession.options option
allow-user-xsession-local. I noticed that the grep expressions
^allow-user-xsession fail if one options is a prefix of each other.

Please consider allowing whitespace before and after the option, and
to check for the line's end as well. That would mean a grep expression
like ^[[:space:]]*allow-user-xsession[[:space:]]$.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#252592: xfree86-common: please consider adding a local hook for Xsession handling

2004-06-04 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xfree86-common
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-4
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

Currently, /etc/X11/Xsession allows the user to specify her own
~/.xsession, disabling a big part of Debian's Magic.

Please consider adding a hook for ~/.xsession-local, allowing a user
to specify her own script to be executed as part, but not replacing,
Debian's xsession. This comes extremely handy if one wants to have
$HOME/bin in the X path, for example.

This script does what I mean:
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/60xfree86-common_user-xsession-local
# $Id:$

# This file is sourced by Xsession(5), not executed.

# this probably needs to go into the main Xsession script for clarity
USERXSESSIONLOCAL=$HOME/.xsession-local
ALTUSERXSESSIONLOCAL=$HOME/.Xsession-local

# If the user has a ~/.xsession-local, source it here and continue
if grep -qs ^allow-user-local-xsession $OPTIONFILE; then
for XSESSIONLOCALFILE in $USERXSESSIONLOCAL $ALTUSERXSESSIONLOCAL; do
if [ -e $XSESSIONLOCALFILE ]; then
  if [ -x $XSESSIONLOCALFILE ]; then
. $XSESSIONLOCALFILE
break
  fi
fi
  done

Bug#236788: xserver-xfree86: doesn't properly reset centrino graphics when returning to text mode

2004-03-08 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0-5
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am using xfree 4.3 on a Centrino notebook with 00:02.0 VGA
compatible controller: Intel Corp. 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics
Device (rev 02).

I am booting the kernel with an extended text mode, vga=0x0f07.

X11 comes up just fine, but when I switch back to the text screen, all
lines are displayed once, and then the upper half of the character is
repeated.Additionally, there are significantly less lines on display
than the kernel thinks the screen has, causing new commands on a shell
to be displayed only after scrolling for multiple lines.

This doesn't happen when vga=normal is used.

Can I do anything to help debugging?

Greetings
Marc
