Just to say that I experienced this problem with my Radeon 7500 DVI/CRT dual head card. I rebooted my box last weekend after 115 days uptime - during which X was upgraded. After reboot, instead of producing a separate display on each monitor, the same display was duplicated on both. I had made no other changes to the configuration files for X in the meantime. Adding the 'Option MonitorLayout CRT,CRT' string to both device sections as suggested worked, however, and I now have normal functionality restored. Thanks, Tony Whitmore
Bug#236197:
I think I have a similar (or the same problem) as the bug submitter. My Radeon VE has come up in dual head properly once. Every start of X after that it has come up in clone mode no matter what I do to the XF86Config file. Unless I am missing something really obvious. Rebooting doesn't have any effect. I have the line (WW) RADEON(1): Only one monitor detected, Second screen will not be created in my log file which looks suspect. I do have two monitors connected one via the DVI port and one via the VGA port. Both me and someone fairly knowledgeable on Debian restarted the server several times when the problem occured and tried several XF86Config-4 changes to no avail. The only thing that comes to mind is that this machine gets rebooted to Windows 98 occasionally and perhaps the card was left in some strange state after I booted back into Linux. I did boot back into Windows 98 yesterday and today things are working again.=20 =20 In any case sorry for wasting everyone's time on this. No problem; it's good to have this information archived (both in the BTS and on our mailing list), as it may prove useful to others in the future. Closing as unreproducible per submitter. That figures (I really hate that Murphy guy) ;-). Just before I actually run into the problem again and submitted more information and a workaround. You may want to reopen with a lower priority (since I can just power off after whatever happened when I upgrade) and I'm available for any testing (assuming I can get it to happen again :-( ) if you need it.
