RE: Re[2]: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Program

2002-01-27 Thread Tom Schwarz

Delete, Insert, and Refresh keys will add to the program. I will add them
soon.

I am going to change the rules on picking up weight. I will document that
carefully when I do it. I think Scott has given me an idea that will help.

This is super Tom. You are really saving me one heck
of a lot of time. It looks nicer all the time. I like
the switch from text to html display. Since you are
adding features, figured I'd list a few:

Keyboard hooks:
1. Delete key for Move to Delete in addition to button.
2. Insert key to Return to Que in addition to button.
3. F5 to Refresh key in addition to button.

Still not displaying Weight here. If you tell me what it
is looking for, maybe I can change my header to be
recognized?

[Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review program - Perl fragment

2002-01-27 Thread Mike Nice

Attached is a perl program I use to categorize spam subjects for review. It
is a portion of an analysis batch file that addresses several other problems
such as moving the spam from the \IMAIL\SPOOL\SPAM holding area before
analysis so that the spam that pours in during analysis won't be deleted
without review.

The subject sort order might be integrated into the other full featured
VB spam review program.

 Sort order:

  1.) Alphabetical

  2.) Spam subjects beginning with ", xxx xxx xxx..."

  3.) Spam subjects containing multiple spaces. I don't even need to look
at these since I've never seen a legitimate message containing spaces and
tagged as possible spam. I wonder if any message containing multiple spaces
in the subject has ever been non spam.

# Summarize held spam by subject lines

my @fileList=glob("d*.smd");

my $spamCount=@fileList;

print "Found $spamCount files\n";

my %subjects;

foreach $spamFile(@fileList) {
   &getSubject($spamFile);
}

print "\n\nresult\n\n";

foreach $spamSubj(sort(keys(%subjects))) {
  print "$spamSubj: ($subjects{$spamSubj})\n";
}

exit(0);

sub getSubject {
   my ($spamFilename) = $_[0];

   #print "$spamFilename...";

   $subject="";
   open(SPAMFILE, "+< $spamFilename") || die "Can't open file $spamFilename\n";
   my($keepReading)=1;
   while ($keepReading) {
  $line = ;
  if ((!$line) || ($line eq "")) {
 # Blank line or EOF, terminate
 $keepReading=0;
  } else {
 $lcLine= lc $line;
 if ($lcLine =~ m/^subject:/) {
$subject = substr($line, 8);

for ($subject) {
  # Trim leading and trailing spaces
  s/^\s+//;
  s/\s+$//;

  # Change cr into space
  s/\r/ /g;
 }

 # If typical spam subject (Multiple spaces), sort to bottom by prepending
FF character
 if ($subject =~ m/ /) {
$subject="\xff" . $subject;
 }

 # If typical spam subject (begins with "xxx, BUY THIS SPAM"), sort near
bottom by prepending FE character
 if ($subject =~ m/^(\w*),/) {
$subject="\xfe" . $subject;
 }

$keepReading=0;

if (! defined($subjects{$subject})) {
   $subjects{$subject} = 1;
} else {
   $subjects{$subject} ++;
}
 }

  }

   }

  # print "Subject: $subject\n";

RE: MISSING_REVERSE_DNS:RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Newbie questions on filters & charging

2002-01-27 Thread Madscientist

If I might jump in here with a couple of comments.

We are able to happily bill $2/mo per mailbox.
In part, we offer spam and virus scanning and place no limits on mailbox
size (we bill also for storage space).
Most of our clients are small corporations. All of our clients are satisfied
and frequently recommend us to others.

For filtering we use a combination of Sniffer
(http://www.sortmonster.com/Sniffer) and the following basic Declude
settings with extremely good results:

SNIFFER HOLD

RBL FOOTER [SPAM ALERT RBL - SENDER FOUND IN RBL DATABASE]
DUL FOOTER [SPAM ALERT DUL - SENDER FOUND IN DUL DATABASE]
RSS FOOTER [SPAM ALERT RSS - SENDER FOUND IN RSS DATABASE]

OSRELAY FOOTER [SPAM ALERT OSRELAY - SENDER FOUND IN OSRELAY DATABASE]
OSDUL FOOTER [SPAM ALERT OSDUL - SENDER FOUND IN OSDUL DATABASE]
OSSRC FOOTER [SPAM ALERT OSSRC - SENDER FOUND IN OSSRC DATABASE]
OSSMART FOOTER [SPAM ALERT OSSMART - SENDER FOUND IN OSSMART DATABASE]
OSSOFT FOOTER [SPAM ALERT OSSOFT - SENDER FOUND IN OSSOFT DATABASE]
MAILFROMHOLD
SPAMROUTING HOLD
BADHEADERS  HOLD

Hope this helps,

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Program

2002-01-27 Thread Dan Spangenberg

Great program?
Are you ready for some feedback and a few ideas/suggestions?

I would like a way to shut off the delete confirmation.
It would be nice to be able to resize the windows. I like to see the subject
line and it is always down a ways so you have to scroll to see it.

A button to move to a "hold" directory in addition to the "move to que" and
"delete" buttons could be useful.

Also what is the sort order meant to be? Mine doesn't appear to have much
of a sort order. By date might be good.

This is a really a great utility and works very well.

Thanks

No. You still have Declude running on the IMail server, but by using the
HOP or IPBYPASS options, you have Declude act as though it was running on
the other mail server (IE it will run the DNS-based spam tests based on the
IP address that connected to the other mail server).

> Then I would set the hop to 1 ?

If you set the HOP value to 1, then Declude will assume that the remote
mail server is 1 hop away. You would use that if there will always be 1
mail server between IMail/Declude and the remote mail server. If mail
could be delivered directly to the IMail server, you shouldn't use the HOP
value of 1. In that case, you could use the IPBYPASS option, where you
would put the IP address of other mail server.

[Declude.JunkMail] SMTP Scanning Server

2002-01-27 Thread David Barrett

Scott,
In your manual it
reads.

This means that if E-mail isn't delivered directly to your IMail server
(for example, if the MX record for your domain points to a virus scanner, that
then forwards to your IMail server), you
can still use Declude JunkMail!

    Does this mean that declude
junkmail is installed on the Scanner server and not the Imail server
?
    Then I would set the hop to 1
?
    And how does declude know what
the host name is on the scanning machine if above is true.

Yes, that is correct.

The "XINHEADER X-Note: Total weight of %WEIGHT%." could be used instead, so
that the weight appears in all E-mails (whether or not the weight is
greater than or equal to 10).
