Determining Declude Processing Times
Sensitivity: Confidential

My proc folder gets backed up a lot.
Often I upgrade the declude version and it runs good for many months and then I
start seeing the same problem again. What is the easiest method to
determine the declude processing time takes so long? I need a method to
determine which test has such a delay and disable it or remedy it.

[Declude.JunkMail] OT: IIS 4 Advisory

2006-10-10 Thread Andy Schmidt
For those of you still running NT 4.0 SP1 with IIS 4

-Original Message-
From: VeriSign Customer Support Department [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: Important Service Notice about your Secure Site Certificate

Dear VeriSign SSL Customer:

In keeping with industry best practices and to continue providing you
world-class SSL security, VeriSign is making an important change to the
certificate hierarchy of your Secure Site SSL certificate. Secure Site SSL
certificates (1, 2 and 3 year), issued on or after September 7, 2006, will
be signed with a new intermediate certificate authority (CA). This new
intermediate CA certificate will chain up to the VeriSign Public Certificate
Authority (PCA) root that is present in all major web browsers and web
servers.

Who is affected by this change?
---
This change affects only existing and new customers who are using VeriSign
Secure Site SSL certificates

Customers using IIS web servers:
--

If you are using Microsoft IIS 5.0 or 6.0 No action is required when you
renew your Secure Site Certificate, since Microsoft IIS 5.0 and 6.0
automatically imports and installs the new intermediate CA certificate.
If you are using IIS 4.0(not supported by Microsoft as of December 2004):
Please note that you will need to manually install the intermediate CA
certificate using a Microsoft tool. For detailed instructions, please go to
http://www.verisign.com/support/ssl-certificates-support/page_dev020191.html
.

Customers using other Web Server (i.e. non-IIS):
--
If you are using any non-IIS web server you will have to go through a simple
one-time installation of the New CA when you install you renewed Secure Site
Certificate. This is consistent with the way VeriSign has been issuing
retail Secure Site Pro and Managed PKI for SSL Premium Certificates for the
past 2 years, and you will receive the necessary instructions upon issuance
of your Secure Site Certificate.

For complete details and updates on the Secure Site intermediate CA
certificate rollout plan, please see our CA Update: Secure Site and Managed
PKI for SSL Standard Certificate advisory at
www.verisign.com/support/advisories/page_029264.html

Note: This notice is being sent to both the Technical Contact and Corporate
Contact listed for the certificate. If you have purchased more than one SSL
certificate from VeriSign, you may receive a message like this one for each
of your SSL certificates.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] INV-URIBL Scoring?

2006-10-10 Thread Markus Gufler
IMO you should never let a single test hold a messages.
The question is: what is a single test? Or Is invURIBL a single test?

invURIBL does multiple checks insinde and so it's practicaly a set of
URIBL-based tests that could add some points to the weighting system.

I would consider, to not block on invURIBL but to ensure that invURIBL has a
high weight so that it will block in combination with other tests.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] INV-URIBL Scoring?

2006-10-10 Thread Scott Fisher

There is a lot of flexiblity in the invuribl scoring.

I consider the surbl.org to be a consolidation of separate uribl lists and
use the bitmask scoring option.

So if somebody is listed on more than one list, they'll get higher weights.
I can also score lists such as ws.surbl.org lower because they tend to get
more false positives.

The maxweight coming out of URIBL would be 200 for me. (100 subject tag, 200
hold, 300 delete)

Here's much of my config file:

   add key=Enable_Max_Weight value=true /
   add key=MAXWEIGHT value=200 /

   add key=URIBL_List1 value=multi.surbl.org /
!-- Will return the last octet as the weight. If Custom Bitmask Values
Are Enabled--

!-- their values will take precedence over this setting --
   !-- add key=URIBL_Return_Result_As_Weight value=false / --
!-- Weight added to the result code or custom bitmask total. --
   add key=URIBL_Weight_List1 value=0 /
!--Allows you to override the normal values for bitmasks for a custom

[Declude.JunkMail] Internal AVG vs Fprot CPU?

2006-10-10 Thread Mike N
Has anyone measured the difference in CPU requirements between Fprot and the
internal AVG? We've upgraded to the latest Declude and turned off the
internal scanner for now. We will probably migrate before the Fprot
renewal under the new terms - I just wanted an idea if we have to upgrade to
dual or quad processor to match the old settings.

I could see that with DecludeProc it could run AVG as a service and
prevent having to reload the process and signatures for each scan, but I
never measured it.

  Thanks,

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] No Email Address

2006-10-10 Thread Darin Cox
If the address doesn't exist, then the message will bounce before it gets to
Declude. Unless of course you have nobody aliases, which is an extremely
bad practice these days. In that case you should remove the nobody alias,
and viola, problem solved.

If the attempts to deliver to nonexistent addresses still bog down the
server, you should consider adding a gateway that checks for valid
addresses, and only passes the email to valid addresses on to the main mail
server.

Darin.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] SpamHaus

2006-10-10 Thread Matt
Yes. They are making a good point. The courts shouldn't allow spammers
to file SLAPP suits as a way to threaten blacklists out of the
business. Even though Spamhaus could have fought this and won quite
easily, the fact that one has to spend resources fighting SLAPP suits is
a threat in itself. This is more so a fight about the way that the US
court system approaches spammer litigation than it is fighting the
spammers itself. It's about time that the courts started throwing this
stuff out and even fining the litigants.

Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] Internal AVG vs Fprot CPU?

Has anyone measured the difference in CPU requirements between Fprot and
the internal AVG? We've upgraded to the latest Declude and turned off
the internal scanner for now. We will probably migrate before the Fprot
renewal under the new terms - I just wanted an idea if we have to upgrade
to dual or quad processor to match the old settings.

I could see that with DecludeProc it could run AVG as a service and
prevent having to reload the process and signatures for each scan, but I
never measured it.

  Thanks,

If the address doesn't exist, then the message will bounce before it gets
to

Declude. Unless of course you have nobody aliases, which is an extremely
bad practice these days. In that case you should remove the nobody alias,
and viola, problem solved.

If the attempts to deliver to nonexistent addresses still bog down the
server, you should consider adding a gateway that checks for valid
addresses, and only passes the email to valid addresses on to the main
mail

server.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] No Email Address

2006-10-10 Thread Darin Cox
Declude is not a mail server. IMail accepts the email for valid email
addresses, then passes those messages on to Declude.

So if you don't have nobody aliases, then you should check to see if you are
under significant dictionary attacks. If so, you can reduce the load on
your mail server significantly by adding a gateway server as indicated.

Are your IP blocks in Declude or Imail?

As for the rest, I'd check the list archives for the order of tests for
whatever version of Declude you're running. I believe it was reposted for
the most recent versions within the past month... but this is all a side
issue to your main load problem.

One other note. Many have reported reductions in CPU load with running
Sniffer in persistent mode. I'd check with Pete on the Sniffer list for the
steps to run that way.

Also, if you're running Virus before JunkMail, you might switch, as the
JunkMail tests will typically use less CPU than virus scanning tests, so by
setting

AVAFTERJM OFF

in your Declude config, you may save a few CPU cycles. The only drawback
being you may end up with viruses in your hold queue.

Darin.

Do you have any domains with nobody aliases?

Easy to check by doing Start | Run | regedit

Access HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Ipswitch | Imail | Domains

Click Edit | Find

Enter nobody and be sure all three boxes are checked

Note the domain name for any hits, then click F3 to get tio the next one

Delete all nobody aliases using the GUI

Licensing problem after upgrade

I just upgraded from 3.x to the current version. Nothing
will run.

All I see in the diags.txt is FATAL ERROR: Product license
key not in configuration INVALID KEY

Where do I put the update Key?

Thanks.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Licensing problem after upgrade

2006-10-10 Thread John T \(Lists\)

The delivery app is still declude.exe.

Create a new text file in you imail\declude
director and call it declude.cfg.

Add a line CODE -x-xx-xx-
replacing the xxx-xx with your code.

do not have a declude.cfg.

What should be in it and where should it go.

Do i just rename my global.cfg

What about this.

Also the IMAIL Delivery Application is still set to
Declude.exe is this correct.

Should it change to the Decludeprocess.exe

Fred,

Your license code should go in the
declude.cfg file.
