So, the benefit of being a higher-up, muckity-muck at Microsoft is not having the best software, but rather the duckets to hire an entire dept. of folks to clean up your email for you. Ballmer said only about 10 junk e-mails make it through to his inbox each day because of Microsoft's anti-spam technology." Given that Ballmer presumably receives in the order of 100,000s of spams a day, that means a 99.99+% spam capture ratio. That pretty much means that he is using the same Microsoft anti-spam technology as Bill Gates: "practically an entire department at the company he founded is dedicated to ensuring that nothing unwanted gets into his inbox." The Microsoft Corp. chairman receives 4 million e-mails a day, but practically an entire department at the company he founded is dedicated to ensuring that nothing unwanted gets into his inbox, the company's chief executive said Thursday. "There are two people who probably are the number one spam recipients in the world," Steve Ballmer said. "Bill Gates (is first) because he is Bill Gates. Bill literally receives four million pieces of e-mail per day, most of it spam." Spam or junk e-mails are unsolicited messages, generally advertising goods or services and usually sent to many e-mail accounts simultaneously, often indiscriminately. Ballmer said Microsoft has special technology that just filters spam intended for Gates. "Literally there's a whole department almost that takes care of it," he said. Ballmer did not name the second most-spammed e-mail account, but said he also ranks among the world's top spam recipients because he hands out his e-mail address -- stevebmicrosoft.com -- whenever he travels or speaks. [Declude.JunkMail] HELOBOGUS & MAILFROM warnings on legit server
Hello All, I've got a problem with Declude catching mail from my web server. The web server is sending mail from web forms that customers fill out to users hosted on my email server. I'm getting HELOBOGUS and MAILFROM warnings, stating that the domain "server_name" does not have any MX/A records. How can I resolve this? I don't want to whitelist the server name but I've got to be able to send the email forms to the respective users. I look forward to your help. [Declude.JunkMail] Declude catching emails with a WEIGHT10
Hello All, Perhaps someone can shed some light on this. I've got junkMail running using a weight system. If an email gets a weight of less that 18 it is passed on to the receipient. Today however, I'm getting legit emails from a particular client that is being caught and forwarded to my catchall account as spam eventhough it's weight is only 10. The tests it's failing is ORDB and OSRELAY. Any reason JunkMail would be doing this? Troy Hilton SofWerks LLC. [Declude.JunkMail] BADHEADERS Test question
Hello All, So far I've been very happy with JunkMail. I'm only running a few tests and it's catching a lot of spam and porn. However, I'm noticing the occasional legitimate email from badly formatted clients. For example, JunkMail caught a confirmation email from an online service that one of my co-workers signed up for. This was a good email but it had badly formatted headers. Fortunately, I'm not rejecting or deleting emails as of yet but eventually I will. How do you all deal with emails that fail the BADHEADERS test because of poor mail clients/senders but are legit emails that need to be delivered? I'm looking for my "next step" in configuring JunkMail. Any advice is appreciated. Troy D. Hilton SofWerks LLC. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] DSN:Newb Junkmail $default$ file question
I'm also a newbie with JunkMail as I've only been using it for a week. What I did was setup an email account called "spam" and I set a couple of tests, BADHEADERS & ORDB, to route any emails it caught to that mail account. I can then review the mail to see if any legitimate emails was caught and to see how well things are working. As I see that legit mail is getting through and only the spam junk is caught I can then change the settings to bounce or whatever. Over time I'll add other tests and just watch how it goes. Troy D. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] badheaders test
>Can anyone shed any light on exactly what the BADHEADERS test checks for? It checks for E-mail headers that are broken (non-RFC-compliant). There are a number of different things that it looks for. OK. >I've got a client that is sending me legitimate emails but it's failing the >BADHEADERS test and I can't see why. To find out, you need to find the code that Declude JunkMail assigned the E-mail (such as "80200202"). If you use the WARN action, this will appear in the E-mail headers. Otherwise, you will need to look in the log file. Ah, that explains why I can't see the code in the headers. You can look up the code using the "BADHEADERS lookup" at www.declude.com/tools . The most common reason an E-mail will fail the BADHEADERS test is because it is missing a Date: header (or has no time zone or an incorrect time zone). This is illegal, and will often cause E-mail to get "lost" on a server or mail client. Upgrading the software sending the E-mail will take care of the problem in almost all cases. Cool. Thanks Scott.
