That would not be a good idea, especially since
this is a public list and if he did that anyone could spam his users by setting
their return address to [EMAIL PROTECTED].

I think people are missing the point here.  We
are not talking about blacklisting anyone with multiple dashes in their domain
names, we are talking about adding weight to their messages in an overall
weighting system because lots of spammers use dashes in their domain
name.

The thought is that they would also fail other
tests that would cause their spam messages to be held or deleted, but that
legitimate messages that use multiple dashes would not fail lots of other spam
tests, so the minimal weight that gets added to their messages for having
multiple dashes would not cause them to be held or have any action applied to
them, and they would just get delivered as usual.

What
if?

a test
that we can give weight on number of dashes in a domain?  I am yet to
see companies with more than one dash.. I can even go as far as two dashes
but any company with more than 2 dashes in their domain is somehow looking
at a marketing issue since giving that address to anyone is just too
difficult.

I am
sure in this group of all admins we can do a good review of domains and see
if this observation makes any sense.

Thoughts?

2003-07-24 Thread bill.maillists
I have two dashes in my domain. If this test is going to be used, you may want to look
for three or more dashes, or consecutive dashes.

Regards,

Bill

Kami, I totally agree, I think this would be a very good test.

Damn... Gotta stop emailing while I work... The 2nd example is flawed...

MAILFROM 8 CONTAINS  @*-*-

Above is what I meant tho the example below would catch mail... Probably list confirmations which frequently have -’s in the address.

Seems like if there was a wildcard character we could use in the filter files then you could do

HELO    8   CONTAINS    -*-
MAILFROM    8   CONTAINS    -*-*@

Assuming * was our wildcard then that would do it no? But since * is valid in an email you’d have to do ** I suppose if you wanted to actually look for a * or a wildcard that isn’t a valid email character. A % seems like a good candidate since we hold those anyways even tho they are valid characters in emails.
