Hi,

[... sorting on spam weight in spamreview...]
I've solved this be marking the subject line of all hold
  messages with [spam %weight%]

Well, I have that too now but. that did not solve the problem because
the subject column in the top windows is empty. Strange, as the subject line
in the window below that *does* show the subject. Anybody else have this
problem too?

It's not a problem.
There is a switch in the config window to let Spamreview read all subject
lines.
This will slow down a little bit when you open the spam- or virus folder but
I have no problem with it.

1.) It's much easier to reply if the original message is in PLAIN -TEXT

Is Spam Review still being maintained?

As I know it's not more maintained by the initial developer, but he has
offered to give the source to someone who is interrested to maintain it in
the future.

 1) When I have a look at spam the Junk Mail Wanings
windows only shows the lines starting with X-RBL-Warning:.

Is this a bug? Maybe the developer intended this exactly in this manner.

 2) Maybe related to 1) But the Weight at the top of the
Junk Mail Warnings window is allways empty.

See next answer...

 3) Feature request (if possible)
I would like to sort on this weight. That way I could pay more
attention to the messages barely failing my review weight and merely
glance at those almost reaching my delete weight.

I've solved this be marking the subject line of all hold messages with
[spam %weight%]
Now you can sort in spamreview by sibject line and it will show all hold
messages in weighted order.

 4) Feature request (if possible)
If 2) is related to 1) maybe it wouldbe possible to have
a list of headers to show in the Junk Mail Warnings window.
 Something like: X-Note:
 X-Spam-Tests-Failed:
where X-RBL-Warning: and/or X-RBL: are included by default.

Not a bad idea. However there was multiple feature requests in the past
(like keeping a copy of every requeued message in a separate folder for
future review and performance tuning, or having a context-menu für adding
certain email-contents like IP-Adresses, mailfrom, keywords,... to different
filter lists)

Did anyone have any problem installing Spam Review?
I'm trying to install it on a Windows 2000 Server and it tells
me that it needs to update files first and the system needs to
reboot before setup can run. I let it update the files, manually
restart the system and try to run setup again. Setup then tells
me the exact same thing, that it needs to update files first.
Am I missing something? Is the fact that I did not let the program
restart the system have an affect?

2004-08-18 Thread Markus Gufler

What would be the best way to do the below :

I've solved this be marking the subject line of all hold
 messages with [spam %weight%]

For example we hold on 100 points and mark any message above 75 points in
the subject line.

So we have in the $default$.junkmail file

WEIGHT75SUBJECT [spam %WEIGHT%]
WEIGHT100 HOLD

And in the global.cfg file

WEIGHT75weight x x 75 0
WEIGHT100 weight x x 100 0

Simply replace 75 and 100 with whatever you want.

Some what known issue. What you have to do is delete a number of lines in
the install ini file, those related to vb and such. I do not remember
exactly, but I can find out.

I've solved this be marking the subject line of all hold messages with

How do I get the Weight: to show?

 Andy,

It's not the answer but maybe this will also work for you.
I've configured Declude to add the weight to the subject-line from a
 certain weight on.

 WEIGHT75 SUBJECT [spam%WEIGHT%]

We hold on 100 and can now see immediatly the weight and also sort by
this weight. This makes it much easier to search for FP's because our
experience shows that all messages above 200 points can be deleted
 without any further control.

Can you give me the syntax for that?

Assuming you have configured 2 weight tests like

WEIGHT10
WEIGHT20

in your global.cfg file and you want to hold on 20 points:

Set the two actions

WEIGHT10 SUBJECT [spam%WEIGHT%]
WEIGHT20 HOLD

in your $default$.junkmail file. (Note the space after the ] !)

This will add a [spamXX] to the subject line of every message
collecting at least 10 points.
Any massage above 20 points will be moved to the hold folder.

Now you can list all hold messages with spam review and see the weight
of every message in the subject-column.

Hope this helps

Please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you are having problems with adding to kill.lst please review the
following and let me know if this is or is not your problem.

Per Scott Perry's Instructions, I look for X-Declude-Sender: to locate the
Sender of the email. The only way this will be included in the files I am
looking at is if you have this option set in Declude: XSENDER ON

If this option is missing or set to OFF in Declude you will have have a
X-Declude-Sender: entry in your email files and the Add to Kill will not
work.

My question to you is: How is your XSENDER option set?

Note From Scott:

If the XSENDER ON option is used. Without that, there is no way of
knowing for sure what the return address is without looking at the IMail log
files for the MAIL FROM: line.

since isn't is really the remote IP address that we are looking for, and not

There are two different things that IMail can use to stop an E-mail before
it arrives.

One is the Kill List, which works on the return address (the %MAILFROM%
variable, that is in the X-Declude-Sender: header when the XSENDER option
is used in Declude JunkMail). This is an E-mail address (and sometimes
different than the From: or Reply-To: addresses).

The other is the Control Access file, which blocks E-mail based on the IP
address. However, the format of this file is undocumented and risky to
edit unless Ipswitch releases the details of the file. That's the one that
the %REMOTEIP% could be useful in, if it were possible to automatically add
to the Control Access file.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the clarification. Then Tom's suggestion of:

XINHEADER X-FromEMailAddress: %MAILFROM% [%REMOTEIP%]

make sense. Except, we currently cannot do anything with the [%REMOTEIP%]
variable at this time, so we can probably leave that off?

Yes. That was likely included because the Declude X-Declude-Sender: header

includes the IP.

However, it would have value if we could take the %REMOTEIP% variable and
use it to populate our filter file with something like:

REMOTEIP 5 IS xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

correct?

If so, Tom, would you be willing to add a configurable button to Spam Review
that would let us add the IP to our filter file (it would need to be
configurable because people use different names for their filter files)?

Hey Tom,

I have a suggestion... :)

On your spam review software.. can you have a button so we can sort by sent

I have noticed when I am cleaning it out.. i have a number of spams which

Power is back and life is getting back to normal so I thought I would post
an update. The last update I posted the first person that downloaded it
found a major problem. I hope that is not the case this time.

If you are currently using SpamReview all you should need is
spamreview.exe.

I know the Add to Kill feature will not make everybody happy but I
received
a mix bag of requests and this was already in testing so that is what you
get for now. I will add other similar features later. I have some code
to
restart the smtp service on a 2000 computer but don't know if it will work
on NT. If you are a vb programmer and have code that you know will
restart
a service on NT and/or 2000 and are willing to share it please email it to
me. I am thinking of allowing you to restart the smtp service from
 SpamReview.

 http://www.slsoft.com/spamreview.htm

 v1.0.7 New Features
Add to Kill - You can now add a From email to the IMail kill.lst
file. The SMTP service must be restarted for the changes to kill.lst to
take
effect. (note: future versions may allow you to add to other exclusion
 lists).
Virus EMail can now be reviewed. You must specify the path to the
virus hold folder. It's the same path specified in your virus.cfg file as
VIRDIR D:\IMail1\spool\virus. You cannot view Virus EMail as HTML and
you
can not Return the email to the Que. The Deleted and Hold folders for the
Virus feature are located under your Virus folder.
A new Settings feature allows you to truncate the message to a
given number of bytes. This will speed up your processing when the email
includes a large attachment. This setting is Truncate Message Size To?
and
is specified in Bytes. Zero bytes retrieves the entire message.
Clear Spam Deleted Folder and Clear Virus Deleted Folder features
allow you to clear out the Deleted folders. This process cannot be
reversed.

Seems to me the best way to handle same sender messages is to
detect within the program matching senders than ask with a popup
'Delete all instances of this sender?' Yes No. or even have a
switch in settings to do this automatically. Then you won't
even have to highlight messages to get the same effect faster.

Another way to speed review might be for the program to keep
a list of previously deleted email addresses then have a switch
in settings like 'Delete at boot matched deletes?' Yes No...
Then, as the program loads, it would automatically delete previously
deleted sender messages. One could purge this list to start over
again using this method. You would only be dealing with 'new
senders' at that point.

I don't know how much time Tom has. g I do appreciate very much
the program that exists.

This last feature seems amazingly close to what we we all purchased Junkmail
to do in the first place. Just add it to your blacklist. I think the
better feature is one that has been discussed before, an option to add the
return email address to the junkmail blacklist. I know the app already has
an option to add to the imail kill list, but that requires a restart of
SMTP.

But with the black list the sender of the spam would have to have the same
return address then next time he decided to send out a block of emails...
and if I am correct.. they change that information everytime they send out a

I am wanting to do is a quick way to remove blocks from the review of spams
that have been caught...

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. I agree with the option to remove blocks of

check on startup if the address has been deleted in the past, and deleting
the message based on that. I think that is what we have Junkmail for in the

On some of the email I review I would like to click a button and send an
email back to the sender, based on a template, letting them know that they
have a problem. It could include all the warnings. Is this a feature that
others would use if it was available?

Actually, the next most useful feature for me would
be to take the real sender and add-to-kill.lst function.
Then if you consistently see an abuser, you just add his
address to Imails kill file... This also ultimately reduces
server load as well, as mail is simply rejected rather than
processed...

This line gives me the 'real' sender and I'd love to kill.lst
some of these if they are clearly doing only spamming...:

XINHEADER X-Note: SMTP Real-From: %MAILFROM%

I do not see an immediate need to notify senders of bad mail.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Question

2002-01-30 Thread Andy Schmidt

Yes, actually, I would love to be able to just forward/redirect the message
to my SPAMCOP mailbox. I currently do that automatically with Declude for
Weight 20 and above.

Then SPAMCOPY will figure out who REALLY is to notify - because sending it
back to the originator in 99 out of 100 times will result in a bounce. The
sending email address is never valid.

I second this requested feature about adding to the Kill List. Great
Idea!

Also, I like the idea of sending to Spam Cop vs. the sender because will
surely have a lot of bounces.

Also, I think this is great you wrote the app and will not mind sending
a donation to you. Keep up the great job. Love the app so far.

My question is...

How do you want it to work?

Do you want a button to do it?

I use the D file for the list so I think I have the right email address.
Is this correct Scott?

This was my thought. If you delete the email you are saying it is spam.
Why would you not want to add it to the kill.lst file? However, it has
already been noted that you might want to change it just in case.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review and Kill File

2002-01-30 Thread Don Schreiner

Tom,

I would want 2 separate button options.

1. Button to the delete Kill list.
2. Button to the Delete folder only.

Not 100% for sure but a warning in the documentation about having the
%MAILFROM% variable in your header as Scott was stating in a previous
post. Does this address the issue of identifying the real from address
that we would want to add to the Kill list?

I like the idea of the Kill list vs. Declude Blacklist if it saves on
the CPU. However, I would want to be more certain it was a real from
address and not a bogus one. Like the earlier post... most of those
from addresses are bogus.

Do you want a button to do it?

Do you want an option in Settings for adding it whenever you click on
Move
To Deleted?

Other?

By default don't your new configuation files put out a warning at 10?

Yes, that is correct.

The XINHEADER X-Note: Total weight of %WEIGHT%. could be used instead, so
that the weight appears in all E-mails (whether or not the weight is
greater than or equal to 10).

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Program

2002-01-27 Thread Dan Spangenberg

Great program?
Are you ready for some feedback and a few ideas/suggestions?

I would like a way to shut off the delete confirmation.
It would be nice to be able to resize the windows. I like to see the subject
line and it is always down a ways so you have to scroll to see it.

A button to move to a hold directory in addition to the move to que and
delete buttons could be useful.

Also what is the sort order meant to be? Mine doesn't appear to have much
of a sort order. By date might be good.

This is a really a great utility and works very well.

Thanks
Dan

You web page mentions that you place a weight message
in your headers using Declude but does not show how this
is done. Can you show this here? I'd like to get this working...

It can be done using the new %WEIGHT% variable, in combination with a
header. For example:

XINHEADER X-Note: Total spam weight of this E-mail is
%WEIGHT%.
