First I hope everybody is away of the right-click pop-up menu - Input
Methods way to change GTK IM for the current program (yes, for some
apps it doesn't work, most notably firefox, but still quite handy).

As the default input method should be set before gnome-session is
started, I feel it would be quite hard to use a program running in the
session to set/change it. The best place seems to be GDM. But I don't
know anything about GNOME internals, so I may be quite wrong.

Public bug report changed:

Comment:
Maybe gnome-session could have a way to set environment variables from
gconf at startup. For example, all the keys in /.../gnome-session/env/
could be variable names and their string values the variable values. On
startup, gnome-session would set those variables before executing any
programs. gnome-kbd-props could then change the /.../env/GTK_IM_MODULE
key and next time the user logs in, the IM would be set.

Currently there is no easy way for the user to choose a default gtk2

[Bug 28567] Nautilus File Manager Locks Up

2006-01-21 Thread TomJerrard
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28567

Comment:
Sebastien

Thank you for explaining the system.

Yes I do very easy terminal commands like 'ls' and in this case I even
used 'rm'. I even do stuff when I see ful instructions on how to do it.
Your full explaination below on how to use the backtrace commands is
great. I can follow those instructions. Without those instructions I do
not have a clue how to implement the commands that you originally gave
me. As I said I am not a programmer nor do I have any real grasp of
command line Linux.

I need detailed instructions, step by step, to follow. I use the
windowing type environment to do the stuff I do. Command line is a
martian language to me.

I will attempt, using your instructions, to backtrace next time the
problem happens. I do want to assist in the Linux world.

Tom

Comment:
Your comment about how the system works is not fair. The situation is
easy. You have an issue, we are happy to work on fixing it but we need
informations on what happen because we don't have the issue. It may be
to some special .png that causes issue to the rendering library or
something else. Does it make sense to you than for resolving an issue
you need to know what happens?

Now we don't cancel the bug, but we declare it useless because nobody
can reproduce it and nobody can provides informations on what happen ...
that's not really possible to figure what to fix what is broken.
Providing a backtrace or a broken .png would allow use to have those
informations and to track it.

You don't need to be a martian and what is martian about attaching the
files your have in your folder the next time it happens? Do you know how
to open a command line and move a file if that happens again, so you can
locate which one you have to move and is creating that? If you don't
know I'm happy to explain that to you, just let me know.

For the backtrace it's a bit technical but you don't need to be a programmer,
I gave you the step for it. Open a command line (applications menu,
accessories, terminal) and type in it:
gdb -p $(pidof nautilus)

you get a line starting by (gdb) and waiting on your input, you type
thread apply all bt. Then you get the backtrace, you just have to copy
it to a command. To copy you can use the items of the right click menu.

Bug needs efforts of both parts to be fixed and I don't think than
people waste their time making that working as it does at the moment

[Bug 27014] evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2006-01-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/27014

Comment:
I've forwarded your issue upstream
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327982 and will let you know
if they comment on it

It's possible that you have 2 accounts after the migration, as described
by the announce mail:

If no Launchpad account exists for an email address then a new account
will be created. Note that the Bugzilla password is not migrated for
generated accounts, due to differences in how passwords are stored.

If you have used a different email address in Bugzilla to what you
used in Launchpad, you can make the transition go more smoothly by
registering your Bugzilla email address in Launchpad at:

  https://launchpad.net/people/$USER/+editemails

If an extra Launchpad account does get created for you though, you can
request an account merge at:

  https://launchpad.net/people/+requestmerge;

Did you use 2 differents emails for bugzilla/launchpad? In which case
you may want to try what is described by that mail

get the issue putting a comment when confirming would be nice.

gnome-desktop is a library and the about GNOME dialog, that bug is

[Bug 27913] [Dapper] changing background colour doesn't take effect

Thanks for your bug.

Manu, this color used to be used after the login and before having your desktop
background displayed, now the change only makes effect before using gdm. I'm
not sure that's what the original bug is about but I've forwarded that
upstream: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=328050
You are right other way, the color change has no effect on the theme itself

In my case, g-v-m attempts to mount both drives with /dev/hda,
although my second drive is /dev/hdb. As long as one drive is empty, I
have no problems reading the drives, and with both full, I can access
both drives using a fully specified mount command.

[Bug 28567] Nautilus File Manager Locks Up

2006-01-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28567

Comment:
Thank you for the backtrace, it indicates that it shokes on an image
(which was expected according to the previous comments). Could you try
to identify which image does that and attach it to the bug? It probably
hangs on a folder, to identify the image open a command line and move an
image and try to open the folder from nautilus then, if it stops
happening that's due to the image you moved, if it's still happening
continue with the next one, etc

Does your /etc/fstab countains entries about the 2 CD drives you have?

Martin, that's either a gnome-volume-manager or a pmount issue, they
should not use the mountpoint defined for an another drive to /etc/fstab

Sebastien

It hung on an image .png that had been created by xsane. I had titled
the image Log856_11Jan0006.png. After moving that image to a temp folder
within Home (the instructions given to me by another user on the forum)
Nautilus file browser works again.

[Bug 28931] Live CD - Dapper - Mouse cursors

2006-01-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28931

Comment:
Right, the issue here is really xorg bug #27589, it uses the standard
cursor instead of the preferred alternative. libgnome has no default
value for the mouse cursor neither so it doesn't get changed.

Matt do we want to change the default setting? We have to fix the xorg
issue anyway to get the right cursor for gdm before login, and setting a
cursor theme for GNOME would make it harder to change for the system
since after changing the alternative you would have to go change the
gconf key.

I'm closing it as duplicate of #27589, feel free to reopen if you
disagree with that
