[Bug 30294] Totem doesn't play many media files out of the box

2006-02-02 Thread Simon Francis
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30294

Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Support for proprietary formats like Word is considered essential these
days, and every serious Linux distribution mush ship with builtin
support for Word documents. When will media be treated like a first
class citizen and given the same respect?

[Bug 30185] Rhythmbox uses excessive memory/Possible Leak?

2006-02-02 Thread Phil Bull
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30185

Task: ubuntu rhythmbox
 Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info

Comment:
Give a smaller playlist a try, only about 2000 songs, if possible, and run that
for a few hours. It might be a playlist handling bug somewhere.

With beep-media-player, are you using the gstreamer or xine backend? Could you
try the xine backend with totem and try to reproduce the problem?

Thanks again

[Bug 23106] Hal does not recognize my partitions.

2006-02-02 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/23106

Task: ubuntu hal
 Status: Unconfirmed => Fix Released

Comment:
This got fixed with the new privilege separation code:

hal (0.5.6-0ubuntu2) dapper; urgency=low

  * Add debian/patches/hald-runner.patch:
- Fork off a small root daemon hald_runner that communicates with hald
over p2p dbus and is responsible to start helpers as root. This allows
the main hald to run with even less privileges and at the same time
enables active elements like power management.
- Patch from Sjoerd Simons, taken from upstream CVS.
  * Add debian/patches/privileges-hald.patch:
- Run hald without any auxiliary groups.
  * Add debian/patches/privileges-addons.patch:
- storage polling addon: Drop root privileges, run as user hal with
auxiliary groups (since we need them for accessing CD-ROMs etc.).
- acpi polling addon: Drop root privileges, run as user hal without any
additional groups, since everybody can read acpid events.
  * debian/hal.install: Install hal-system-{power,lcd}-* scripts to make g-p-m
happy. Do not install the storage scripts for now since they rely on the
integrity of hald (redesigning them is upstream work in progress).
  * Remove debian/patches/hal-dbus_max_match_rules_per_connection.patch, it's
obsolete.
  * Add debian/run-hald.sh: Script to run hald locally from build-tree.

2006-02-02 Thread Manu Cornet
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30308

Comment:
When I filed the bug, I had tried with 4 or 5, none of them was
recognized. I just tried with a few other CDs, and some of them are
correctly recognized (this seems related to the CD's popularity ^^).
Sound-juicer seems to always try to get info, but sometimes it comes
back with nothing.

The weird thing is that rhythmbox always recognizes CDs very well, even
the ones sound-juicer doesn't. Shouldn't they be searching from the same
database ?

sound-juicer doesn't print anything when launched from the command line
: it's perfectly quiet. Should I give some examples of unrecognized CDs
? Should I change the bug title into "sound-juicer should search the
same CD database as rhythmbox" ?

Public bug report changed:

Description changed to:
one of my directories contains files with cjk characters in their filename
eg.:
"01 - Mistbell - 東方ファンタジー ~Opening~.mp3"
"02 - Mistbell - 眠れる大地をゆけ ~Field~.mp3"

nautilus crashes when i try to open the directory
nautilus DOES NOT crash if i copy just ONE file to a directory and open
that dir
nautilus DO crash if i copy (at least) TWO files to a directory

i think it has some problem with sorting the filenames with special
characters.

BTW the filenames display correctly in mc or when i list the
directory with ls.

I use the dapper development release.

[Bug 30313] Gnome-search-tool regularly freezes

Public bug report changed:

Comment:
I tried to debug it with

gdb -p ($pidof gnome-search-tool)

I issued a couple of "continue" to make the dialog responsive again,
then entered a query in the dialog.

The app froze as usual: the UI does not repaint and the app goes into a
seemengly endless loop. No message appears in gdb: no segfault or
anything else. It is a loop, not a crash.

[Bug 28744] gconftool-2 very slow

2006-02-02 Thread Lee Revell
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28744

Comment:
This problem is really, really bad, if your machine is not screaming
fast, it takes hours to upgrade 30 Gnome related packages. Upon further
examination with strace, it seems that for *each package*, all the files
in /var/lib/gconf/defaults/ get regenerated 20 or 30 times. Is it
regenerating ALL the XML files for each file installed or something?

There has GOT to be some potential for optimization here... I'm afraid
to upgrade because pulling in a handful of Gnome packages will make my
machine grind to a crawl for the rest of the afternoon. I am afraid
"very slow" is a significant understatement of the problem...

[Bug 30348] gtk.Notebook.get_current_page() returns incorrect page number when pages hidden

2006-02-02 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30348

Affects: gtk+2.0 libgtk2.0-0 (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Hi,

I have found the Gtk+ Notebook widget has inconsistent behaviour when
pages are hidden.

gtk_notebook_get_current_page() returns the selected page starting from
0. Hidden pages are not counted.

gtk_notebook_get_nth_page() takes a page number as an argument. The
number is the page number as added (i.e. it includes any hidden pages).

Since these behave differently
gtk_notebook_get_nth_page(gtk_notebook_get_current_page()) does not
return the selected page if hidden pages are present.

My expected behaviour was that hidden pages are counted but not visible.

This bug is always reproducible. Find attached a PyGTK and C example
that shows the bug.

The use case I have for this is:
An application contains a notebook which has pages that are added and removed
dynamically. When the application starts the notebook contains a single
"splashscreen" page. When a page is added the "splashscreen" is hidden until
all the dynamically added pages are removed.

I am using Ubuntu Breezy (libgtk2.0-0 version 2.8.6-0ubuntu2.1)

[Bug 30364] Inconsistant Close Behavior

2006-02-02 Thread Lukas Sabota
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30364

Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
There are a couple default applications in Ubuntu that use the system
tray (notification area?). The notable ones are Gaim, Ekiga, and
Rhythmbox. When close is pressed in Gaim or Ekiga, the program is
minimized to the notificaiton area. When rhythmbox is closed (via
alt-f4 or the close button on the window handle) it terminates. There
should be a consistant behavior between gaim, ekiga, and rhythmbox.
They should either all terminate on close or they should all minimize to
notification area on close. I would think it would make sense to have
them minimize to notification area on close; as usually you are leaving
these applications open (ekiga: messaging and such.. gaim: to receive
messages or to close buddy list rhythmbox: to listen to the music you
have selected and hide the interface.)

Even better, give power users a choice through gconf and have GNOME
applications resepect that key?

[Bug 30120] "Monitor Library" doesn't support gnome-vfs

Note that this hasn't got a huge amount of testing (since most people
have their music locally), but it seems to work from my small amount of
testing. Detecting new changes at runtime requires a properly working
FAM set up to work over the network though.

new company laptop, and can't seem to make it happen. I suspect it was
a problem with the upgrade to breezy, as the fresh install doesn't
display the bug.

[Bug 30185] Rhythmbox uses excessive memory/Possible Leak?

2006-02-02 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30185

Comment:
The massif logs indicate the the heap size is ~55Mb, which is probably
normal for a library that large.

The increasing VM size is an issue I noticed the other day, and reported
as gnome bug 329713 (against gstreamer).

[Bug 30373] gnome-vfs files only open in read only mode

2006-02-02 Thread Dominic Webb
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30373

Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
"File>Open" then select a file on a gnome-vfs share and it will open in
Read Only mode.

You can then (only) re-save via "File>Save As" to the same gnome-vfs
location.

This seams to be the case regardless of whether you open a gnome-vfs
file from within gedit or from within Nautilus.

[Bug 30185] Rhythmbox uses excessive memory/Possible Leak?

2006-02-02 Thread Darryl Clarke

https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30185

Task: ubuntu rhythmbox
Sourcepackagename: rhythmbox => gst-plugins-base0.10

Comment:
Moving this to a more appropriate package to match an upstream report -
and it has come clear that it is not a rhythmbox bug.

[Bug 30185] Rhythmbox uses excessive memory/Possible Leak?

2006-02-02 Thread Phil Bull
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30185

Task: ubuntu rhythmbox
 Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info
