staticy clicks reported earlier.

[Bug 40646] Re: cdda:///dev/hdc is not a valid location

2006-05-17 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
What puzzles me is that clicking on audio CD in Places menu in the
panel works - but in left pane of Nautilus it doesn't. I'd think they
use the same cdda handler...

ah... so maybe that also doesn't work in fedora. in that case maybe we
should make a new upstream bug, it seems a different problem maybe.

[Bug 39484] Re: cups smb printing backend no longer works

2006-05-17 Thread Martin Pitt
This should have been fixed in

samba (3.0.22-1ubuntu2) dapper; urgency=low

  * After much faff about fixing this properly and getting fixes
submitted upstream (some of which has happened), I've concluded
that getting every case_tables usage in the code nailed down
before release just isn't going to happen, so applying a more
global bandaid (ubuntu-setlocale-fixes.patch) instead to stop
the SEGVs completely (closes: launchpad.net/{39990,39484,39956})
  * Snag a patch from upstream SVN to stop winbindd from panicking
when not joined to a domain (closes: launchpad.net/32614)
  * Mangle patch fuzz for previous patch to make it apply cleanly.

[Bug 45173] Re: [Bug 45173] invalid semantic overloading of gnome-logout icon in Human theme

2006-05-17 Thread Mark Shuttleworth

I have asked that this be the power on/off symbol (similar to the
shutdown icon on the dialog it brings up). I know that powering off is
only one of the options but it best captures the idea of ending the
session. I don't like the current switch (it's too literal - need
something stylised for the top right panel corner).

[Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake

2006-05-17 Thread Matt Davey
What version of pilot-link is shipping with Dapper?

For pilot-link 0.12, I have a couple more things to try out:

try using:
pilot-xfer -p usb: -l
(see thread here:
http://www.pilot-link.org/pipermail/pilot-link-general/2006-April/002721.html)

Also, for gnome-pilot, try setting the 'timeout' to zero. You'll find
the timeout parameter using the configuration applet, under the
'devices' editing dialog.

2006-05-17 Thread draknet
Same for me. Importing a folder with lots of files crashes rhythmbox.
Version is 0.9.3.1-0ubuntu9.

Just before the pagefault I see a messagebox with something about
mimetype. The mime type could not be identified of
file://music/.directory

Running it again shows that it loaded some folders and during import it
crashes on the next mime problem.

So running it again and again it slowly loads everything.

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 65 error_code 11 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

The file I was trying to watch is here http://zygis.gotdns.org/stuff
/desktop-recording.ogg (~0.5Mb)

However, I'm not sure should I have reported this against Istanbul or
Totem.

[Bug 4229] Re: Totem receives BadAlloc when playing very large movies using Xv

2006-05-17 Thread Paul Sladen
The BadAlloc comes with the video just doesn't have the resources to
give the program; either there isn't enough free RAM on the video card
for an Xvideo buffer of the size requested, or the Xv port cannot decode
images that large.

It really should be up to totem to realise this, back-off and try
another combination (eg. software rendering).

[Bug 18713] Re: [Breezy] USB 4 in 1 card reader : creates unwanted icons for empty slots

2006-05-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Thinking about it, this should actually have been fixed by this version:

gnome-vfs2 (2.14.1-0ubuntu3) dapper; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/96_from_cvs_only_non_automounted_listed.patch:
- patch from CVS, list only drives which don't do automount,
use storage.media_check_enabled hal property for that
  (Ubuntu: #33451, #41740)

I. e. gnome-vfs now does not show drives which have removable media, and
no medium in it at the moment. I cannot reproduce this any more either.
Can you please confirm that it's now fixed for you as well? Thank you!

[Bug 32628] Re: Partitions aren't available in computer:///

2006-05-17 Thread Andrea Garbarini
Everything seems to be broken here too... I added my /dev/sdb1 device to
the /etc/pmount.allow as to make it user-mountable but nautilus doesn't
seem to get notified when the volume gets mounted. Restarting dbus
actually causes the volume to get displayed on the desktop. Funny thing
is, pumount it and it's still there, the restart-dbus trick doesn't seem
to work when unmounting the volume.

[Bug 34112] Re: Gnome-Cups-Manager don't take care of ~/.cups/lpoptions

2006-05-17 Thread VETSEL Patrice
** Description changed:

I managed this problem and many duplicates bugs :

  * Bug #31864
  * Bug #38149
  * Bug #41303
  * Bug #41304
  * Bug #41402

So i resume here the problem.

When you use Gnome-Cups-Manager to mark a printer as default user, or
when you change some parameters (like PageSize), modifications are saved
in ~/.cups/lpoptions . This comportement is ok.

But this user configuration file is not used by gnome-cups-manager so
user's parameters like default printer or user default parameters are
  not used.

+ STEP TO REPRODUCE THE BUG:
+ open gnome-cups-manager
+ add a new local printer (even if you don't have one)
+ change settings (like paper format A4/A5/A3 ...)
+ close gnome-cups-manager
+ view ~/.cups/lpoptions ... your changes are well saved.
+ open gnome-cups-manager
+ go to printer settings and you can see that your changes are lost
+

   ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION
If I set my printer (HP Deskjet 6540 with hplip) to fast draft mode it will
not work. It still prints in normal mode.

If I look at the web frontend for cups the settings didn't change.

If I change the settings directly in the web frontend it works as desired.

[Bug 44523] Re: abiword eats memory (possible OOM) and hangs when opening PDFs

2006-05-17 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
But why is PDF assigned to AbiWord?

This is strange. I poked about in /usr/share/applications and the
abiword.desktop doesn't list pdf. Looking at Open With again also shows
gvim and gedit in the list of programs PDFs can be opened with too.

There is something that all three share in common: in
/usr/share/application-registry
They all have mime_types=text/* . Are PDFs counted as being a subtype of text?

[Bug 39128] Re: gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen

2006-05-17 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Hi Daniel. I am re-opening this bug because I do not believe that it is
a dupe.

I had the problem that is discussed in Bug #3517 and, as that report
says, it was fixed. The issue in that bug was that, even when the login
and logout sounds were set to no sound, they still played. The login and
logout sounds referred to are the ones that are in Gnome Sound
Properties already, it is just that changing them made no difference.
This bug is not the same as that.

There are two login sounds, which may have caused the confusion:
- When I start the machine, I get a drumroll noise when I get to the
username/password screen. This is not mentioned anywhere in the Gnome Sound
Properties and occurs before one gets to the issue in Bug #3517.
- When one enters their username and password they get the Vooom-ooom-m
noise that is referred to as the login sound in Bug #3517.

** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu)

[Bug 44523] Re: abiword eats memory (possible OOM) and hangs when opening PDFs

2006-05-17 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
With that part tracked down I guess we are left with whether abiword
should cope better with binary files being parsed as text... Since it
can't actually display a binary file that contains text perhaps it would
be better if it popped up a warning when such files were opened?

OpenOffice Writer actually pops up a parse as list when given a
document it can't identify and setting the parse format to text resulted
in the document being loaded in 5 seconds (of course it looked a mess
and had lots of black diamonds in it). The same document doesn't finish
loading in abiword after 5 minutes...

you can fix it upstream if you want to, I'm not sure that's a nautilus

2006-05-17 Thread dré
1st and 3rd are stock_mail-send and stock_attach icons. stock_attach
could be linked to mail-attachment. (Fix to naming-utils?) For
stock_mail-send/recieve there are no appropriate metaphors in the tango
naming spec yet. There are several other evo-icons missing but could be
linked to or designed from existing ones easily.

The rest (save, undo, redo) are missing some sizes as of now but will
get fixed until dapper get's released.

[Bug 26648] Re: Panel crashes whenever .recently_used file contains filenames with special characters

2006-05-17 Thread Vittorio Bertola
Please fix this bug asap!
It almost got me to throw my Ubuntu (5.10) away and get back to Windows... it
made my PC completely unusable, it would just crash every time I tried to boot
it up, as soon as I entered Gnome...
I think that, also in my case, it was due to some weird attachment having been
opened through Thunderbird (an Excel spreadsheet in OOCalc 1.9.79, I think).
However, it's unacceptable for the entire system to crash and get lost forever,
simply because there is some application that forgets to escape entities in
XML... The gnome-panel should ignore the invalid entries, but not crash!! And
if it does, it should not get stuck hopelessly - for example it could check and
erase invalid XML entries in the .recently-used file at startup.
Thanks,

[Bug 42247] Re: gstreamer0.10 refuses to play certain valid MP3s (not all, but some)

2006-05-17 Thread Simon Cadieux
Happens here as well. Some mp3 files that were playing correctly now create
Internal Dataflow Error when played through Banshee or Totem-gstreamer.
This started last week when I upgraded to the latest dapper packages. I noticed
gstreamer packages were upgraded during that process.
This happens only for some mp3 files, not all of them.
I do not have USB Audigy, and ALSA is selected as default output in
gstreamer-properties.

When played through gst-launch, I get:

Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
ERROR: from element /playbin0/source: Internal data flow error.

[Bug 37214] Re: [dapper] metacity does not respect /apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_modifier properly

2006-05-17 Thread Simon80
Oops, I didn't notice that comment. I use the win key to move
windows around, and I don't want alt to be used for this, because then I can't
alt-click on links in firefox. It doesn't seem to matter what I use to set the
setting, but I use either gconf-editor or the Window prefs dialog (with
identical effects). The dialog lets the user select between either Ctrl, Alt,
and Super or Ctrl, Alt, and Meta, depending on whether the layout settings are
default, or Meta is mapped to the Win keys, respectively. I can't say any more
than that, cause I'm using Gentoo right now, and the above is what I can
remember off the top of my head. However, it might be useful to note that I've
experienced the bug in both distributions, which would indicate that it's an
upstream issue, right?

[Bug 45230] URL tooltips go offscreen in Dapper's Epiphany

2006-05-17 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

While browsing the Ubuntu forums today, I noticed that some of the URL
tooltips (I'm not sure of the proper name... the things which pop up
over some URLs when you hold the pointer over them) go partially
offscreen.

To reproduce:
1. Maximize an Epiphany browser window.
2. Go to http://ubuntuforums.org/
3. Click on any of the available forums.
4. Click on any of the available threads in the forum.
5. At the bottom right of each post, there are 3 icons for performing a
quick-reply. Hold the mouse pointer over one of these icons, and the text
which pops up will run partially off-screen.

This may be somehow related to Xinerama/MergedFB, as I am currently
using my laptop with an extra display (external display to the right of
my laptop display). However, this happens on both screens, so I'm not
certain that it has any bearing on the issue.

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

I tend to do clean installs at the flight releases. This crash happens
every single time I reinstall and start XChat-GNOME for the first time.

Steps to reproduce:

Start Xchat-GNOME
Edit - Preferences
Change quit message
Change Colors to custom (i use green on black)
Change download and completed files to ~/Downloads
Set FreeNode settings:
Auto connect
Set Nickserv Password
Add some channels
Turn on Plugins
Check Auto Away
Network monitor
Notification
On-screen display
Perl

*crash*

A side effect of this crash is that the Download directory is not
correctly remembered. All other settings are properly saved but the
crash still happens the first time XChat-GNOME is run.

** Affects: xchat-gnome (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 45020] Re: tooltips appear instantly

2006-05-17 Thread Emmet Hikory
I can only reproduce this after first initialising tooltips by
displaying one. If I click on another application, there is again a ~1
second delay before the first tooltip is displayed, after which all
tooltips are displayed nigh instantly.

** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed

[Bug 39149] Re: [Dapper] sftp hangs if I haven't done ssh-add

2006-05-17 Thread Chris Lee
It happens for me connecting to the sshd daemon of a Breezy machine,
from a current Dapper machine. The connection is to be made using a DSA
key (not password). The DSA key is password protected, however. So if
I have not done 'ssh-add' to unlock the DSA key, and I try to open the
folder via a 'Bookmarks' link from the gnome-panel menu, I have the
problem.

I just re-tried this with everything updated for Dapper as of last
night, and I no longer am getting asked for the password for the gnome-
key-manager. Nautilus just hangs and I have to kill it.

Using 'Connect to server' to do the connection just works.
