[Bug 34112] Re: Gnome-Cups-Manager don't take care of ~/.cups/lpoptions
** Description changed: I managed this problem and many duplicates bugs : * Bug #31864 * Bug #38149 * Bug #41303 * Bug #41304 * Bug #41402 So i resume here the problem. When you use Gnome-Cups-Manager to mark a printer as default user, or when you change some parameters (like PageSize), modifications are saved in ~/.cups/lpoptions . This comportement is ok. But this user configuration file is not used by gnome-cups-manager so user's parameters like default printer or user default parameters are not used. + STEP TO REPRODUCE THE BUG: + open gnome-cups-manager + add a new local printer (even if you don't have one) + change settings (like paper format A4/A5/A3 ...) + close gnome-cups-manager + view ~/.cups/lpoptions ... your changes are well saved. + open gnome-cups-manager + go to printer settings and you can see that your changes are lost + ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION If I set my printer (HP Deskjet 6540 with hplip) to fast draft mode it will not work. It still prints in normal mode. If I look at the web frontend for cups the settings didn't change. [Bug 39128] Re: gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen
Hi Daniel. I am re-opening this bug because I do not believe that it is a dupe. I had the problem that is discussed in Bug #3517 and, as that report says, it was fixed. The issue in that bug was that, even when the login and logout sounds were set to no sound, they still played. The login and logout sounds referred to are the ones that are in Gnome Sound Properties already, it is just that changing them made no difference. This bug is not the same as that. There are two login sounds, which may have caused the confusion: - When I start the machine, I get a drumroll noise when I get to the username/password screen. This is not mentioned anywhere in the Gnome Sound Properties and occurs before one gets to the issue in Bug #3517. - When one enters their username and password they get the Vooom-ooom-m noise that is referred to as the login sound in Bug #3517. ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: Rejected = Unconfirmed ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 3517 Login sound cannot be turned off -- gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/39128 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 44523] Re: abiword eats memory (possible OOM) and hangs when opening PDFs
With that part tracked down I guess we are left with whether abiword should cope better with binary files being parsed as text... Since it can't actually display a binary file that contains text perhaps it would be better if it popped up a warning when such files were opened? OpenOffice Writer actually pops up a parse as list when given a document it can't identify and setting the parse format to text resulted in the document being loaded in 5 seconds (of course it looked a mess and had lots of black diamonds in it). The same document doesn't finish loading in abiword after 5 minutes... -- abiword eats memory (possible OOM) and hangs when opening PDFs https://launchpad.net/bugs/44523 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 26648] Re: Panel crashes whenever .recently_used file contains filenames with special characters
Please fix this bug asap! It almost got me to throw my Ubuntu (5.10) away and get back to Windows... it made my PC completely unusable, it would just crash every time I tried to boot it up, as soon as I entered Gnome... I think that, also in my case, it was due to some weird attachment having been opened through Thunderbird (an Excel spreadsheet in OOCalc 1.9.79, I think). However, it's unacceptable for the entire system to crash and get lost forever, simply because there is some application that forgets to escape entities in XML... The gnome-panel should ignore the invalid entries, but not crash!! And if it does, it should not get stuck hopelessly - for example it could check and erase invalid XML entries in the .recently-used file at startup. [Bug 42247] Re: gstreamer0.10 refuses to play certain valid MP3s (not all, but some)
Happens here as well. Some mp3 files that were playing correctly now create Internal Dataflow Error when played through Banshee or Totem-gstreamer. This started last week when I upgraded to the latest dapper packages. I noticed gstreamer packages were upgraded during that process. This happens only for some mp3 files, not all of them. I do not have USB Audigy, and ALSA is selected as default output in gstreamer-properties. When played through gst-launch, I get: Setting pipeline to PAUSED ... Pipeline is PREROLLING ... ERROR: from element /playbin0/source: Internal data flow error. [Bug 37214] Re: [dapper] metacity does not respect /apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_modifier properly
Oops, I didn't notice that comment. I use the win key to move windows around, and I don't want alt to be used for this, because then I can't alt-click on links in firefox. It doesn't seem to matter what I use to set the setting, but I use either gconf-editor or the Window prefs dialog (with identical effects). The dialog lets the user select between either Ctrl, Alt, and Super or Ctrl, Alt, and Meta, depending on whether the layout settings are default, or Meta is mapped to the Win keys, respectively. I can't say any more than that, cause I'm using Gentoo right now, and the above is what I can remember off the top of my head. However, it might be useful to note that I've experienced the bug in both distributions, which would indicate that it's an upstream issue, right? -- [dapper] metacity does not respect /apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_modifier properly https://launchpad.net/bugs/37214 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 45230] URL tooltips go offscreen in Dapper's Epiphany
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: epiphany-browser While browsing the Ubuntu forums today, I noticed that some of the URL tooltips (I'm not sure of the proper name... the things which pop up over some URLs when you hold the pointer over them) go partially offscreen. To reproduce: 1. Maximize an Epiphany browser window. 2. Go to http://ubuntuforums.org/ 3. Click on any of the available forums. 4. Click on any of the available threads in the forum. 5. At the bottom right of each post, there are 3 icons for performing a quick-reply. Hold the mouse pointer over one of these icons, and the text which pops up will run partially off-screen. This may be somehow related to Xinerama/MergedFB, as I am currently using my laptop with an extra display (external display to the right of my laptop display). However, this happens on both screens, so I'm not certain that it has any bearing on the issue. ** Affects: epiphany-browser (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- URL tooltips go offscreen in Dapper's Epiphany https://launchpad.net/bugs/45230 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 26648] Re: Panel crashes whenever .recently_used file contains filenames with special characters
I forgot one additional note: the error message you get in .xsession-errors is nice but unexplicative: it explains you that the error is due to unescaped entities at line XYZ, but it doesn't state IN WHICH FILE it has found errors! [Bug 39149] Re: [Dapper] sftp hangs if I haven't done ssh-add
It happens for me connecting to the sshd daemon of a Breezy machine, from a current Dapper machine. The connection is to be made using a DSA key (not password). The DSA key is password protected, however. So if I have not done 'ssh-add' to unlock the DSA key, and I try to open the folder via a 'Bookmarks' link from the gnome-panel menu, I have the problem. I just re-tried this with everything updated for Dapper as of last night, and I no longer am getting asked for the password for the gnome- key-manager. Nautilus just hangs and I have to kill it.
