[Bug 55269] SFTP save of write-protected files

2006-08-04 Thread Jonas Bonn
Public bug reported:

1) Open a file via sftp on a remote machine that you do not have
write-permission for.
2) Make some change.
3) Save the file

No error message...!!!

The file on the remote machine is not changed. An error message of some
kind would be good in this situation.

[Bug 36581] Re: gam_server consumes lots of cpu time

2006-08-04 Thread arty
I renamed gam_server to gam_server.disabled and my system is now running
well.

I don't know what the consequences of this action are. Someone else said that
they had done it and they had had few problems.
..from this page...
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=123132

So do it at your own risk.

For me, the choice was to rename gam_server or stop using
ubuntu/kubuntu.

[Bug 55260] Re: Auto-hidden panel fails to hide after losing focus

2006-08-04 Thread Зоран Рилак
After some more searching I have found Bug #54777 reporting identical
behavior with some other applets as well. #54777 is yet uncomfirmed
even though this is a very old bug, going back to Gnome 2.2 as far as I
remember! I might actually get the source code and see if I can fix it
myself.

[Bug 55260] Auto-hidden panel fails to hide after losing focus

2006-08-04 Thread Зоран Рилак
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I don't know whether this is really the gnome-panel or trashapplet bug,
but I guess it's panel's responsibility to behave nicely against mouse
motion.

Auto-hidden panel fails to hide after the Trash Applet's pop-up menu is
displayed. It does not matter whether an option has been selected or
the mouse was moved off and clicked somewhere else; it just stays there
even after the menu has gone.

[Bug 48226] Re: auto-hidden panel sometime jumps to the top of the screen

2006-08-04 Thread Зоран Рилак
I can confirm the issue stated here. I use a panel on the right side of
the screen and it sometimes moves off to the left after the pointer
leaves it "too fast" (definition needed here). It's easy to reproduce
by setting "[un]hide delay" properties to 0 and then rotating your mouse
against the edge of the screen where the panel is hidden, making it show
up and go back in quick succession. Panel's "position" property remains
unchanged though.

If serpentine can be patched so that it does autodetect the disc
capacity, then I suggest moving the disc capacity widget from the front
of the GUI (make it uneditable instead). Because all the user can do by
altering the disc capacity is break it. If it has to be manually
alterable in some cases, the option should be hidden away as an advanced
user thing.

[Bug 55228] Re: Serpentine does not autoset disc capacity, no warning

2006-08-04 Thread Scott Henson
I can confirm that serpentine has this behavior and that it is infact
very confusing. The information is given by hal as
volume.disk.capacity. Serpentine should check that value and set the
disk length accordingly. It should probably check this at startup and
listen on dbus for org.freedesktop.Hal.Manager/DeviceAdded.

Additionally the problem persists in serpentine svn.

[Bug 45975] Re: "Record from input" combo error + sound recording does not work.

2006-08-04 Thread Stephen Shirley
I've just marked #45291 as a duplicate of this. I also get the same
input duplication on both machines i've tested this on.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start sound-recorder
2. Click 'record'
3. After a few seconds, click 'stop'
4. Click 'record'
5. After a few seconds, click 'stop'
6. Click on the 'record from input' list

Expected result:
There should be the same number of items in the list as when the program started

Actual result:
There is a copy of every input for every N-1 times the record-stop cycle was
done.

[Bug 53984] hal cannot obtain list of devices

2006-08-04 Thread Kasper Peeters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

On my Fujitsu P7010, it regularly (but unpredictably) happens that hal
fails to obtain the "list of devices". I notice this because
networkmanager stops working correctly and the machine does not want to
go to sleep anymore (neither by closing the lid nor by doing it
manually: since hal cannot figure out whether my machine can sleep, the
option disappears from the "quit" dialog).

When this situation occurs, a "lshal" gives me no output but a single
error message, stating that it cannot obtain the list of devices.

To make this even more bizarre: _sometimes_, after a while, "lshal"
responds with the device list again, after which the whole system works
again as normal. It happens more often, though, that I have to reboot
the machine to get it back to a usable state.

I _really_ would like to get this fixed, and am willing to do debugging
on this side, but I have no idea where to start. Can someone please give
me a hand?

[Bug 55228] Serpentine does not autoset disc capacity, no warning

2006-08-04 Thread chombee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: serpentine

Several times now I've been caught out when burning audio CDs with
serpentine. It does not set it's disc capacity setting automatically to
match the disc that is inserted, but it also does not provide any
warning or indication that the user should set this manually. The
setting is right there on the front of the GUI, but there's nothing
saying I should set it myself, and I don't expect to have to, so I don't
notice it.

If you burn an audio CD with the disc capacity set wrong in Serpentine,
it fails. It makes a coaster. Doesn't play in either hifi or computer.

Worse, it took me several attempted burns, and attempting to use
Gnomebaker instead, before I realised what was happening.

If Serpentine cannot autodetect the disc capacity (you'd think this
would be straightforward?) then it should at least provide some warning
or indication to the user, or they'll probably find themselves creating
coasters and becoming very confused.

I think this is a pretty bad usability issue.

There's nothing offensive in "killing children" within the semantic

and killing means removing them from the process table. This isn't a
bug, but a user error, arising from semantic confusion.

2. Add a menu item for the application yourself, using the Applications Menu

3. Some time later, uninstall the program.
4. Some time after that, select the menu item (whether by mistake, or because
you've forgotten you uninstalled the program, or because someone else

[Bug 55194] Gnomes's volume control can't control all programs

2006-08-04 Thread SEBTH
Public bug reported:

In order to have a good sound quality when I listen to music, I have to
put the volume very low in the software and put it very high on my
speakers.

I turn down the volume on gnome's volume controller, then I have to turn
the volume down on rhythmbox because it's not affected by gnomes volume
control.

Even then, when someone messages's me on gaim, the sound is extremely
loud. Even if gnome's volume controller is set to mute.

I tried changing the sound server used by gnome but the only one that
can actually play a sound is ESD.

A good solution (I think) would be to have the volume control managing
all sound servers. Maybe it's harder to do than it seems since nobody
did it already but it would be great if all applications volumes cound
be controlled from the same place.

[Bug 27239] Re: gnome-cups-manager does not accept HPLIP printer setup

2006-08-04 Thread danyul
I am not sure if I this adds any useful information, but I seem to be
running across the exact same problem with my HP OfficeJet K80. I am
running the latest Dapper from the main repositories. I am able to
print test pages fine from the localhost:631 setup, and I am also able
to print from KDE apps (e.g., kpdf), but I can't seem to print normally
from Gnome (e.g., gpdf). I'm pretty sure that it's due to the same
issue. As metioned, I am unable to add the URI for my printer in g-c-m
because it keeps on prepending ipp:// .

[Bug 38910] Workrave should allow some events through (such as muting)

2006-08-04 Thread Thomas M. Hinkle
Public bug reported:

When workrave makes me take a break, it blocks *all* input. This means
that while on a break, it is impossible for me to e.g. mute the volume
if my phone rings or if I have an offensive song on when my boss walks
in.

Certain critical events should be allowed through workrave's block. This
should probably be user-configurable, but it seems like a decent start
would be to allow the following through:

Volume control (including mute)
Power off / Sleep / Hibernate
Fast-forward / Rewind (useful if you still want to control your music while on
break from coding)

[Bug 27262] Workrave doesn't understand suspend/resume

2006-08-04 Thread Peter Hawkins
Public bug reported:

Hi...

The workrave package does not behave correctly when used on a machine that is
suspended and resumed. If I suspend my powerbook by closing the lid when
workrave is displaying a "rest break", leave the laptop for an hour or so, and
then resume the laptop by opening the lid, the break timer resumes exactly where
it was before. This behaviour is clearly incorrect -- workrave should notice the
change in real time caused by suspending the machine and realize that the break
was completed while the computer was suspended.

I'm using workrave 1.8.1-1ubuntu2 from dapper.

Thanks,
Peter

[Bug 37736] Re: Microphone bug in Ubuntu Dapper.

2006-08-04 Thread Chewi
If found out the following with my SoundBlaster Live!:
If I mute AC97 in Alsa-Mixer, the Microphone is silent. But I must not mute
AC97 Capture...

The Problem is, that gnome-volume-control does not recognize the
difference between those 2 channels.

The preferences show AC97 twice, but whichever I check to be shown, it
allways shows AC97Capture... Even if I check both, it shows only one
AC97 and it's capture.
