[Bug 59129] Re: not using libgnomeprint[ui]?

2006-09-05 Thread Brian J. Murrell
But evince and (for example) gedit are using the same version of libgtk
(libgtk2.0-0 2.10.2-0ubuntu) yet have different print dialogs and gedit
still links to libgnomeprint[ui} and has a Create a PDF Document option
which evince doesn't have.

I don't suppose I really much care about why the dialogs look different
as much as I care that evince doesn't have a "Print to PDF" option (yet
most other gnome applications do).

using this new print dialog, hence why it looks different.

[Bug 56352] Re: Unlock dialog no longer pays attention to keypresses before it appears

2006-09-05 Thread era
On a related note, the focus is also lost when you get "Denied". So if
you mistype your password and start typing it in again, typically the
start of the password will be lost because the screensaver is doing
random "denied" gyrations (bug #44263) instead of paying attention to
the keyboard ... and you will be denied again! This is frustrating.

Coincidentally, bug #37913 is vaguely at odds with this one; the
reporter apparently finds it mildly confusing that the first, focus-
grabbing keypress is entered into the password entry field too.

[Bug 33331] Re: moving the clock 1 h forward starts the screensaver

2006-09-05 Thread era
In xscreensaver, this bug has existed like forever. I used to see it a
lot when my laptop's CMOS battery was failing and I had to tweak the
time by hand every time I rebooted. This was like a year ago, then on a
Woody installation (thankfully now also running Dapper, still on
xscreensaver).

[Bug 59129] not using libgnomeprint[ui]?

2006-09-05 Thread Brian J. Murrell
Public bug reported:

In Edgy, I opened a PS document with evince with the hope to print (IOW:
convert) to PDF and found that the print dialog is not the same as most
other gnome apps. It doesn't look like gnome-print (libgnomeprint[ui]
that is).

So, I used ldd to see what libs evince (0.6.0 btw) depends on and lo-
and-behold, no libgnomeprint[ui]. Why?

[Bug 59128] Desktop User Guide -> Nautilus File Manager -> Writing CDs or DVDs: some poor wording / grammar problems

2006-09-05 Thread Chris Wagner
Public bug reported:

The guide reads "Writing a CD or DVD is a good method of backup up your
important documents". This is gramatically incorrect. It might be
easier to read *and gramatically correct* if it read "Writing a CD or
DVD may be useful for backing up your important documents".

I hate to report such a silly bug in this way; I'd rather get straight
to the source and fix it / submit a patch / whatever. If you could
point me in the right direction, I could take the appropriate steps and
save time for you (the triager, etc). Is Rosetta the place for
submitting fixes to such language issues? I snooped around there a
little bit and saw no obvious way to submit such a change.

It'd be great if there were a quick-n-easy way to chain up to the source
and submit a "patch" directly to upstream... and there probably is a way
to do this, but I'm not sure how. :)

[Bug 59111] Eternal loading of pages when recovering session

2006-09-05 Thread jvargas
Public bug reported:

Suppose you have several windows with tabs. Let's say you close your
session (or that your Epiphany crashed).

Sometimes (half the times?), Epiphany tries to restore all windows and
tabs, but it will only open the windows and tabs without restoring their
contents (you only see their URL's).

This seems to vary according to the number of windows and tabs: the more
the number, the more likely it is to happen.

This "loading" may take hours (until you kill the application), failing
to open a single page.

attach an strace snippet.

I was thinking the same a while ago, see bug #55828. But this really is a bug,

[Bug 39465] Re: Samsung ML-1740 Not Listed

2006-09-05 Thread Till Kamppeter
Moving to foomatic-db

At first, if a printer is not listed in the gnome-cups-manager or any
other printer setup tool, this is caused by the printer not being in the
foomatic-db package on your installed system.

Look up the printer on linuxprinting.org to see whether it is already
added upstream.

I have added this printer and other Samsung laser printers today. I also
added the new SPL2 driver "splix" to the database.

To fix this problem in Ubuntu it is only needed to update foomatic-db to
the current snapshot and to add the "splix" driver. Then this printer
will work perfectly out of the box.

[Bug 59069] Wrong next / previous icons

2006-09-05 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Hi:

shouldn't the next / previous buttons in Evo have the default gnome next
/ previous icons? I'll show you what I mean:

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/113/pantallazoferiasenespaabuscadordeferiasdemuestrasconsfg1.png

This makes Evo look less good than it could (and should), so it should
be fixed soon IMO.

Thanks for your time :)

[Bug 16724] Re: Inkscape doesn't use the gnome print dialog

2006-09-05 Thread DannyStaple
Still present in Inkscape 0.44-1ubuntu1 on Edgy.

I dont know how aware the community is, and if enough are for a
representative vote.

My opinion would be that since inkscape sits on top of GTK (and not Qt
or some other toolkit), and since I strongly feel that consistency in
Ubuntu is a very desirable feature, then it probably should be changed.

The best way to go about this (IMHO) may be that the upstream should be
gently encouraged to use the default gnome dialog, and that the ubuntu
maintainers showcase it working in Ubuntu.

Also, could you use gst-launch-0.10 (see 'man gst-launch-0.10' if this

[Bug 41170] Re: The typical user will not know how to "make some free disk space" when he cannot log into a graphical desktop

2006-09-05 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Free space issue is critical to lots of users, because gdm doesn't offer an
userfriendly solution for user if there are no free space.
I'm suggesting improved solution for this bug, based on solutions, mentioned in
gnome bug 339229:

 * Always keep a "place-holder file" in the user's home directory that is big
enough for GDM to "do its job", so, when they log in, GDM can merely write over
top of this file as it needs.
 * Provide some kind of "hook" that would allow each distribution to take
further steps in helping an user to fix the problem.

So, gdm should create place-holder file of needed size (for example ~200
kb) in /tmp after gdm starts (and display a warning message if there are
no enough space for creating such file) and erase this file in /tmp
before gdm starts.

Also gnome-session should check for free space during login and create
place-holder file (for example ~200 kb) if there are enouch space and
display a warning message if there are less than ~1 Mb free space (gdm
should erase place-holder file in user's home, created by gnome-session
when user starts to login).

Should I report a bug agains gnome-session in Ubuntu ?

[Bug 58998] Re: Gaim's tabs don't function like in Gedit/Epiphany/Terminal

2006-09-05 Thread Mark Doliner
To me Gaim's tabs look exactly the same as Gedit's tabs. I'm using Gaim
2.0.0 SVN. I have a feeling that's newer than what you're using.

* Hmm, I can't imagine why they wouldn't be the same height. Unless we used to
use a different close button that was causing the tabs to be taller than
normal. Or maybe your tabs are shorter than they would be by default and our
protocol icons are causing them to be taller in Gaim?
* The bug where the close button gets cut off should be fixed. I'm not sure
when we fixed it, but it was some time between 1.5.0 and 2.0.0 SVN.
* We ARE using Gtk Notebook, but tab dragging was added only very recently
(GTK+ 2.10.0, July 3 2006). Are you using GTK+ 10.0 or newer? We'll have to
leave in our current tab dragging code, since we support all the way back to
GTK+ 2.0, but eventually we'll add support for the new tab dragging and #ifdef
it so that it's only enabled for people using GTK+ 2.10.0 or higher. But
that's a pretty low priority. Patches welcome!

[Bug 58998] Re: Gaim's tabs don't function like in Gedit/Epiphany/Terminal

2006-09-05 Thread Schalken
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gaim

- I find that Gaim's tab interface isn't the same as the rest of GNOME's
- native applications, such as Gedit, Epiphany and GNOME Terminal. This is
- very annoying in terms of consistency and theming.
+ Gaim's tab interface isn't the same as the rest of GNOME's native
+ applications, such as Gedit, Epiphany and GNOME Terminal. This is very
+ annoying in terms of consistency and theming.

  In particular,
Gaim's tabs are not the same height.
The close button is not the same (Gaim tries to use a normal button
instead which doesn't fit)
Dragging tabs works like Firefox (with the little arrows showing where
the tab will be moved) rather than like in GNOME apps (tab moves with the
cursor)

Gaim just needs to use the same code which puts tab handling in the
hands of Gtk/GNOME. I'm led to beleive this is done through the use of
  Gtk Notebook.

[Bug 58759] Re: Resizing a window is difficult

2006-09-05 Thread Schalken
Confirmed. (using dapper)

It seems the area above the corner actually belongs to the
minimize/maximize/close buttons. The case is the same with the top left
corner, where the area is occupied by the window icon.

The button's and icon's 'bounding box' (area that they occupy) needs to
be flatter as to make room for the window resizing area above them.

See attachment. Green area allows window sizing. Red area does not.

[Bug 21728] Re: No Background transparency in some applets

2006-09-05 Thread joe
So I made some tests with various themes:

Gtk/Gnomes own themes seem to work properly
clearlooks mist etc.

But some other themes from gnome-art
like clearlooks-vista, gray, resilence and milk2.1 cause some problems. they
produce a vertical gradient in the panel. the sensors-applet networkmonitor and
keyboardindicator just use the unicolor default backround. the window- and
fastuserswitcher seem to do the same but with resilence theme it seems they
behave like buttons or menuentries thid apperas with the gnome-menu when using
resilence i'll attachs some screenshots

atm, as you say, you can start the GUI setup only in accessibility mode.
No idea how to remove this check, and if this can be useful.

what you can do is change in the .destkop the Exec: fiek with an ubuntu
script (the name is at your choice) which change a gconf key
(accessibility); logaut/login/; and then add by default orca at startup

ok. this is a hack, probably you should add a info-dialog before,
ok :( blind people cannot read it, probably you could integrate it with
festival.

[Bug 58914] Re: orca doesn't start

2006-09-05 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
Hello Riccardo,

Thanks for testing this. It is known to us that Orca does not behave
properly when started from the menu. The background for that is that as
a tool for blind people it was not designed to be launched from a menu.

We are currently testing some different solutions to this. Prefereably
we want the setup GUI to appear from the menu, or we might simply remove
vit from the menu.

We don't ship gnome with the accessibility features enabled, just
installed.
