[Bug 66355] Re: gpilotd locks up my Palm Z22
It can be useful to figure out if the problem is with gnome-pilot or the lower, pilot-link, layer. To isolate (assuming you have pilot-xfer installed) try the following: 1. Kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and then do killall gpilotd from a terminal window). 2. Now try running pilot-xfer: pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -l (or '-p /dev/ttyUSB0', or '-p /dev/ttyUSB1', or '-p net:', etc) 3. If that doesn't work, then you have most likely got a problem with your kernel/udev/usb/cables, etc, not gnome-pilot. It can also be useful to see the output from the gpilotd daemon. To do this: 1. Kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and then do killall gpilotd from a terminal window). 2. Restart gpilotd (/usr/bin/gpilotd). ** Changed in: gnome-pilot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info -- gpilotd locks up my Palm Z22 https://launchpad.net/bugs/66355 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 66399] primary selection replace
Public bug reported: This is not as much a bug as a feature request: -Now, if you select some text by dragging the cursor while the left- button is pressed, it goes to the primary clipboard (I think that's the proper name). Then, if you hit the middle-button on a text field, it gets pasted. -On the other hand, selecting text by dragging the cursor while the middle-button is pressed is not possible. My idea is to allow middle-button selection, which would result in REPLACING selected text with the contents of the primary clipboard. My user example: if I want to copy epiphany's location bar's content to a different epiphany window I have to select it, then place the cursor at the end of the other window's location bar and backspace my way to the beginning; in my ideal world, I would select it, then middle-select the text on the other location bar, which would be replaced with the desired contents. [Bug 65820] Ugly fonts in gtk apps under edgy KDE (kubuntu)
Public bug reported: Background: This 'bug' is present on two of my machines (the ones that have edgy), both of them were upgraded from dapper (both worked fine with dapper). I may have toyed a bit with the other machine, but the configuration on the other is untouched (since upgrading from working dapper) Problem: Fonts on GTK applications (like synaptic) are not anti-aliased (smooth), but very grainy. This happens with both user and root (with sudo). I use the Freesans font, but the problem persists with a couple of other fonts I've tried (including BitStream font). Some apps (like OpenOffice) work fine (though I think OO uses it's own font settings) What I've tried: I haven't touched the other machine, but on the other I've tried tinkering with the configuration files, tried different fonts and settings with kcontrol and gconf-editor (which also has grainy fonts) with both user and sudo...to no avail. Notes: - Neither of the machines have gnome installed - The fonts look fine if I start a gtk app on a dapper machine (through ssh) - The bug looks similar to one mentioned by Michael S. in comments of this bug: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gtk-qt-engine/+bug/54552 I'll gladly provide more information if asked to. [Bug 23599] switching keyboard layouts should work for the "whole desktop" by default, not just single windows
Public bug reported: This isn't really bug, rather, I suggest that the default behaviour is changed. Steps to reproduce 1. Add a second keyboard layout in System > Preferences > Keyboard 2. Add 'keyboard indicator' to the gnome panel 3. Change kb layout by clicking on the keyboard indicator 4. Start typing in an application (e.g. console, or text editor, or browser) Expected behaviour: The indicated keyboard layout should work for the "whole desktop", i.e. I should be able to type with the same keyboard layout across multiple applications - e.g. write an email, lookup a word through the firefox search engine, continue to write the email, etc. Current behaviour: Selecting a particular keyboard layout only works for the first application I use. If I click on another window, the indicator flips back to the alternate keyboard layout (and the keyboard behaviour for that particular window is flipped back too). Thus, I need to toggle the keyboard layout for every individual application, instead of just once for the "whole desktop". BTW, you currently *can* change this behaviour *manually* in the System Tools > Configuration Editor: navigate to Desktop > Gnome > Peripherals > Keyboard > General uncheck 'groupPerWindow' After this, switching the keyboard layout works for all windows, rather than just the active one. This should be the default, IMHO. ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed -- switching keyboard layouts should work for the "whole desktop" by default, not just single windows https://launchpad.net/bugs/23599 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 26177] supported developer meta-package
Public bug reported: Currently we have (from Debian) gnome-devel which pulls in pretty much anything anyone would need to do development in GNOME. Unfortunately some of the packages it pulls in are not in main or are redundant to packages in main. I think the easiest way to get a development environment is to run "sudo apt-get build-dep $somepackage", not exactly ideal. Some form of official ubuntu development package to pull in a supported development environment would be fantastic. This of course brings up some larger questions that even the GNOME community itself struggles with (eg, which IDE) and would require no small amount of work to integrate the tools that have already been chosen (eg, making all docs findable from the Yelp UI). [my $0.02USD on tools would be Monodevelop and Monodoc... it would of course require someone built AddOn's for MonoDevelop to support non-clr environments like straight C, C++ and Python, and it would require a lot of work with existing docs to get them into Monodoc... but I think Monodevelop has the most potential to be a powerful tool for many different environments given its extension architecture and the many languages that can be used to extend it] ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Wishlist Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed -- supported developer meta-package https://launchpad.net/bugs/26177 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Only this test fails. ** Affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Multimedia System Selector: Video input test doesn't work correctly but my webcam works https://launchpad.net/bugs/62062 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 65971] Re: Gnome 2.16 crashes after loading some apps
It would be very useful if you can attach a backtrace of it. In order to do so, you can login in a virtual console and launch the following command: gdb /usr/bin/gnome-session -p pid_of_your_gnome-session Once you reach gdb prompt, type the following instructions: handle SIGKILL nopass stop print handle SIGQUIT nopass stop print cont Now you can use your GNOME session normally and, when crash occours, you can switch to the virtual console and obtain a backtrace with the following instructions: backtrace info regs thread apply all backtrace Those informations will be very useful to triage this bug. -- Gnome 2.16 crashes after loading some apps https://launchpad.net/bugs/65971 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
